Dola,

If they maintain their current winning percentage, the Giants would win 85 this year.

Thin desert air does not bode well for the big curveball specialist. Hoping the roof is closed.

Zito looks good so far today. I mean really good - 6K's through 4. I'm worried.

Zito gets the win, though, as the bullpen saves him. My word. I can't believe how well the Giants are playing so far this season. Take out two awful trips to San Diego, and this team is neck and neck with the Dodgers.

Now get a bat, Sabes!

Isn't it great that it's Lackey on the mound, Giants fans?

Although I am at work right now, so for all I know, Lackey's already pitched himself off of the mound.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Yes, I am stooping to using the old limerick ploy.

There once was a southpaw named Zito
Who had trouble bringing the heat-o
He threw quite a curve
A change up and slurve
Still no surprise he got beat-o

A few days before he starts again, but I figured posting this today might allow the reverse mojo to accumulate.

Wow. I knew my limerick was bad. I just didn't know it was *crickets* bad.

Zito (3-7, 4.72 ERA) at Kevin Millwood (7-4, 2.62)

Pablo Sandoval looks like he is the real deal, eh? I remember thinking last season that he looked like the type of hitter that could win the batting title with an OBP almost identical to his batting average. I think the Kirby Puckett comp is a pretty good one. Carney Lansford is the hitting coach and he seems like just the right kind of hitter to mentor a guy with Pablo's skill set.

Think he stays at 3B? I think a lot depends on how his body develops in the next couple years. If he blows up he will be a 1B by default. My guess is he sticks at third long term and ends up being adequate defensively.

Keeping with the leprechaun theme, I'm hoping opposing hitters find Zito's curveball to be "magically delicious."

Speaking of no-hitters, the minor league game I was at last night had the Peoria starter taking a no-hitter into the 7th inning, but the Timber Rattlers had runners on base every damn inning thanks to three errors by Josh Vitters and an assload of walks.

It was the weirdest damn no-hitter attempt I've ever seen.

That was a rough meltdown by the pen last night. Fortunately, we come back today with the mighty Ryan Sadowski to avoid the sweep. I'm confident.

Jonathan Sanchez is in the pen now. True story: I have been calling Sanchez "the left-handed Felix Rodriguez" for about two years. Felix was never a great pitcher but he was a valuable set up guy for a few years. I hope like hell Sanchez works his way into short relief. I think he could really excel in that role and eventually could be shipped out for some nice value.

Johnson is hurt and will miss a couple three weeks and Sanchez is right back in the rotation. Crap.

Guessing Romo and Valdez would be potential components in any trade package Sabean might be tempted to put together for a bat.

Good deal there...I actually felt bad when Bochy pulled him in the ninth, but it was probably for the best. Sanchez in the rotation makes me uneasy...don't we have another Sadowski in Fresno?

I'm a Sanchez believer; he's infuriating, but the stuff is there. Sadowski's magic pixie dust ride is going to end at some point, and our bullpen's ridiculous performance is hard to sustain long term.

Sidenote: How the heck does someone from OK end up a Giants fan?

The bullpen's performance is easier to sustain when your getting innings out of your starters. It probably can't last, but when you are well rested, you're better off.

Also, I lived in the Bay Area (albiet, closer to Oakland) from 1st through 7th grade. I was also born out here. I spent a lot of weekends at my grandparents house and my grandpa watched every Giants game and I watched with him when I was over there.

I'm really excited to go to the game Thursday and get to see Lincecum!

Great game by Zito. I too felt bad for him with Bochy hooked him in th 9th. You can tell that he started getting rattled by the very inconsistent strike zone.
