I sat a few rows behind former Secretary of HHS and WI gov Tommy Thompson on a flight to Denver. I also almost literally walked into Diamond Dallas Page in the terminal at Milwaukee. The most famous person I ever carried in a plane I was flying was my dad ... in his plane.

For all you ATL folks, I had the mayor of Atlanta on my plane today. She was flying in from Portland, ME. Had the police escort when she got off the plane, posed for pics and chatted a while. Thought that was interesting.

I shared a filght with Run DMC. I sat right across from Reverend Run, flying from Chicago to Houston and then from Houston to some small airport which is near South Padre Island. Their manager hooked us up with tickets for the show in SPI. We also took pictures with them. Overall, pretty cool experience.

I once shared an elevator with Will Clark in Knoxville, TN. It was great because he was my favorite baseball player as a kid.

Other than that, I don't have too many random encounters with celebrities.

I'm incredibly disappointed that this thread doesn't have a single John Travolta reference.

I once saw Cecil Fielder, in his Tigers heyday, looking at treadmills at the sports authority in Madison Heights. I guess that didn't work out too well for him.

I flew with Wayne Newton one time. He was on the plane with his wife and newborn. He didn't look anywhere near as nice without his pancake makeup.

I was on a cuise a few years ago that my wife set up. It turned out to be a baseball cruise with all these current and former major leaguers. I got to hob-nob with:

Bob Feller
Jack Morris
Vida Blue
Jeff Reardon (pre-arrest)
Tony Oliva
Enos Slaughter
Jason Giambi (pre-roids blow up)
Brooks Robinson
Earl Weaver (pre-dead)
Mickey Lolich
and a collection of scrubs like Benny Agbayani and Kelly Wunsch

and when I say hob-nob, I got to talk to them, take pictues, get autographs, eat lunch, etc. I played blackjack for a few hours with Jeff Reardon and got to chat for a long time with Jason Giambi and his girlfriend on a shore excursion (this was after his MVP year with the A's - he said he loved playing there and would never leave for a NY or LA )

Coolest. Vacation. EVAR.

On the subject of airports, I once saw Jungle Jack Hanna at the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport.

The star of my high school's 10th anniversary reunion was this guy named Kirby who works for Microsoft and once took a leak next to Bill Gates.

Sat right next to and talked with Christian Laettner from Washington-Dulles to Charlotte. It was back when he was playing with the Wizards. I got up the nerve to talk to him after his wife (who is SMOKING hot) fell asleep next to me. He was a good guy and not what I was expecting. He talked about how he wished that he could have stayed in Minnesota to play with KG (he also met his wife there) and that Kwame Brown was not much of a ball player (I believe his words were a little stronger than that).

It just happened to be that I was on my way to Atlanta to the ill-fated .400 Developers conference where I met Markus, Andreas, Arlie Raht and the infamous Joe Stallings. Ah, good times.

You're not kidding! And to give you a little more perspective -- she was planning on keeping this a secret until we were actually on the cruise, and then presumably I'd bump into Dave Winfield and shit myself in surprise. However, she knew how important it would be to me to be able to collect autographs, so she broke the secret a few days in advance allowing me to run down to the local Mega-Sports-Mart and load up on supplies - a few dozen baseballs, a dozen caps, some jerseys, a few bats. It was an autograph hound's dream come true.

Ok, that was weird. I posted in another thread and it correctly labeled the post at 9:08 central. Then I post in this thread a little later and it gets labeled as 8:25 PM, and consequently is down the page. hmmmmmmmm

She didn't ride on my plane, but I was about two feet from her getting off the plane that I was picking up. And no matter what, she is still hot. Jessica Simpson.

Morris Day is the f'ing man. Far more impressive to me that anyone else mentioned. "Ice Cream Castles" is one of my favorite albums of all time, and no, I'm not kidding.

Huh - guess I never shared my brush with celebrity here in this thread. Warning - they are soccer players, so most of you probably will laugh.

This was way back in 2000. I was working at Starbucks in my hometown of Wellesley. Well one night I'm standing there working and I see this guy walking by me to use the bathroom and I'm thinking "Hey that guy looks amazingly like John Harkes if Harkes lost like 10 pounds." But I only got a brief profile shot of him. So I repositioned myself and when he came out of the bathroom I got a great look, and it was indeed John Harkes. I said something to him like "Hey...you're John Harkes aren't you?" He said yeah, I said nice to meet you...etc. He said "Hey...if you're a fan, come on outside, there's somebody you'll want to meet." So I go outside with him, and sitting out in front of the store having a coffee with him is none other than Eric Wynalda!!

So I stood out there and shot the shit with them a bit about the USMNT and the upcoming NE Revolution season, and got autographs from both of them. Couple of class acts.

My brother was having lunch at the local fast-food Mexican place here in town last year on an early-release day from school along with about 100 other kids when Kevin Youkilis came in to pickup an order of burritos for the team (he lives a town over). He ended up staying for over an hour signing autographs.

Oh, and one of our clients is John Cena's Uncle.

I can't think of anyone famous I have met, run in to. I do remember hearing things from my father about some, years ago when he was the security director of the Beverly Center mall. I remember going there a bunch but never saw anyone.

Celebs should hang out in truck stops more.

Probably not really. I mean these guys are at least aware of fantasy football - you just sort of couch it in those terms, or in terms of like Madden.

"So I play this stat-freak's version of a football game - like Madden kind-of. And in my multiplayer league you're the QB of my team and you led us to the championship."

*shrugs* I don't see how that's any worse than all the fantasy-football-fanboys they undoubtedly get assaulted with.

dola

particularly now, after EA's Head Coach and all.

Well, let's just say I'll classify it among "Very Awkward Conversations" Maybe it's not much worse than other fan conversations, but that's not saying much. Here's to being glad I'm not famous.

I blew off a girl (I'll spare the name) who I saw on MTV years later--minor celeb, big name indie, but minor overall. She was intimidating intellectually and even more so talent-wise (I'm a musician myself) and undoubtedly way too much woman for me, but the fact that I could have potentially been one of her "fuck you" songs haunts me to this day. Who knows? Maybe I was. I did walk out on one of her sets after promising to help her load up and let her buy me drinks.

Other than her, I've met, among others, Billy Joel (very cool), Dave Matthews (trying to be invisible), James Taylor (the fucking man, albeit a strange one) and King Kong Bundy, who was coll enough to play video games with me in a hotel in Fla. right after he jobbed to Hogan at one of the mid 80's Wrestlemanias. It was the one that they fought in that weird blue steel cage. And I went to middle school with Joey MacIntyre from NKOTB. He was a whiney bitch and used to cheat at schoolyard games. Years later, after he was who he was, a friend of mine beat his ass senseless for calling his girl the "n" word. Serves him right..."god" must've been watching those freeze tag games.

I've flown a ton (probably 2 times a month over the last six years) and haven't seen anyone famous. Alternatively, I'm so sick of airports I don't even pay attention to anyone anymore.

Heading to Memphis on Sunday, maybe Elvis will fly with me.

He looked like he was by himself today, but he had a racing form with him. I wouldn't have recognized him if not for another pilot who lives there. He was wearing a necklace with a picture of he and his wife on it. That was pretty cool. He is a big boy, not as tall as me, but he's got me beat in the physical size department. I was in Boston for a couple hours today as we did a turn (meaning out and back) out of Cincinnati today. Just long enough to grab lunch and a short nap.
