Starting NT Stone gets a major injury in preseason and has to have reconstructive knee surgery. He will miss all of this season.

We'll go with a balanced attack this year, with the passing focused on the short stuff. I don't think we're a legit championship contender, but I do think we should finally return to the playoffs. FWIW, FOF has us ranked as the #5 roster.

Wow. We had a very surprising season with a storybook ending...
Code:
The storybook ending? QB Banks got hurt early in the 2nd quarter of the AFC Championship game. At the time we were leading 13-0, but our opponents came back to take a 20-16 lead with 3:01 to play. Rookie 5th round pick Raymond Harris then engineered a game-winning drive to put us in the Super Bowl. The Redskins shut down Heyerdahl in the Super Bowl (17 carries, 59 yards, 0 TDs.) However, they had no answer for the rookie QB. Harris was 27 for 36 for 296 yards with a TD and 0 INTs. Oh yeah, and he ran for two TDs, too, including the game-winner with 4:29 to go. And then for good measure, as we were trying to kill the clock, he completed a *clutch* 3rd and 5 with 2:32 to play to give us the last first down we would need. Yowza! Fun stuff, and a great way to start off what I hope will be a legendary career for Harris. AWARDS

2018 OFFSEASON BEGIN
No major retirements. C Steve Mason gets the tag. We head to FA1:1 with $12.4M max for new player. No huge creeps in FA1:1, but several of the +2 to +4 variety. Both young QBs (Harris and Houston) are among the +2 guys. That position will get interesting when Lamar Banks either holds out or has his contract run out. (I'm guessing hold out...maybe this year.) Only one RFA of note doesn't get a contract: WLB Randall Albertson (46/46). He put up mediocre numbers for a 3-4 WLB (8 sks, 11 hur, 3 kdn) and wants stupid money in return. I can find someone else. After renegs and RFAs are done, we have roughly $5M to spend on free agents. I won't go through the position-by-position stuff for now, as we're fairly set everywhere for the next season or two. The primary need is a replacement at WLB. That said, with $5M to spend, if there's an impact player who can step in and replace a 50/50 type starter, I'd be happy to do a little roster shuffling.

2018 FA1
So, $5M isn't the number you want to have available in FA in this setup, apparently. It's not enough to bring in an impact player, and my best option at WLB is a $1.1M one-year guy. So I do a couple more renegs. I don't *think* they'll kill me next year, but they allow me the cap room to pursue the one guy I'm drooling over in FA: TE Riddick Turnbow (69/69, yr 8). Turnbow is a 3-time All-Pro. He's a great run blocker and a very solid receiver. He signs for $24M for 3 years. I also sign SLB Jerome Gougeon (39/39, yr 5). Gougeon has 57 Tech, 54 Str, 50 End, and full experience at WLB. I position-switch him to WLB immediately after signing him to a one-year deal. No other signings of note. On to the draft.

2018 DRAFT
1(32)--LT Grady Bagwell (29/58)--I didn't really need a tackle, but this guy is hard to pass up. 2 reds, 2 blues, 6'6", 333 pounds. 2(32)--FL Lawrence Bruce (18/29)--Classic masking bar signature, plus a red combine and 2 blues. 3(32)--SE Stanley Gonzalez (25/59)--1 red and 3 blues. I looked at this guy in the first. I may need to amend my WR house rules and say no drafting one after the top 50. 4(32)--RT-->LG Al Honablue (17/25)--Uh, yeah. See my 1st round pick. I convert him to guard. 2 reds and a blue, and 6'6", 345 pounds. 5(32)--NT Ross Kirchhof (24/41)--2 reds and a blue, but also a green. He should be a great pass-rushing NT. 6(32)--RCB Leslie Drake (9/29)--2 blues. 7(32)--SLB Quentin Horowitz (15/32)--Taking a chance on a no-combine guy with blue Sol and decent coverage bars. The first five picks should all give us solid depth. The last two may or may not make the team. I don't know that any of these guys start in the next 2-3 years, though.

Great season, but an 87-yard punt return in overtime in the divisional playoffs does us in.

On question about that stud FB you drafted in round 1 : can you get a feel on his real impact on your results ? Statistically wise, it does appear he has no real impact.

No major retirements. CB Jonathan Freeman gets the tag. We head to FA1:1 over the cap. No huge creeps in FA1:1, but several of the +2 to +4 variety. One is 3rd-year TE Rico Hastings, up to 49/49 . This allows me to cut TE Anthony Tant (48/48, yr 6). Gone also is backup C Sammy Whitfield (56/56, yr 6). Having a veteran starting-quality backup isn't something I can afford right now as the cap becomes tight again. After renegs and RFAs are done, we can't really afford to spend on FAs, as I'd like to keep some cap room available for potential holdouts of key players.

2019 DRAFT
1(29)--C Gino Green(33/70)--Outstanding combines, and the one center I have under contract is in year 10. Pretty much perfect timing to draft a new one. 2(30)--FL Dominic Rivera (25/45)--Maybe a starter one day. Red dash and blue str/agi. 3(29)--RT Mario Harry (25/51)--Great combines in everything but dash. Pass-blocking savant? 4(30)--LCB Graham Florian (11/32)--3 blues. Should develop into a solid nickel/dime guy. 5(29)--K Everett Sanderson (23/48)--1 red, 3 blues. Needed a kicker. 6(30)--QB Edgar Hudson (5/20)--blue in str, agi, position drill 7(29)--RB Jumbo Leroy(21/34)--Not expecting much out of him, but *someone* has to be RB2.

With the talent at WR, I opened up the offense a bit more, and it seemed to pay off:

No major retirements. QB Banks gets the tag. RT Harry goes to summer league We head to FA1:1 at $43M over the cap. (I guess I forgot to mention that I mortgaged a bit of the future with some cap outs last year.) This'll be, um, interesting.

2020 CUTS
Gone are... C Steve Mason (59/59, yr 11) WR Quentin Andrews (44/44, yr 8) S Omar Drake (55/55, yr 10) LT Shane Cousin (46/46, yr 5) RT K.C. Fulton (47/47, yr 8) G David Dowell (55/55, yr 8) RT Mario Harry (31/45, yr 2) QB Edgar Hudson (10/22, yr 2) P Sam Harman (46/46, yr 5) I also had to trade away picks 2-7 this year (for nothing better than a third) to get myself to a place where I can field a legal roster. I signed QB Banks to a long-term deal. We'll see how this all works out...

(Oh, and if it doesn't go without saying, I have nothing with which to pursue free agents. This year's team will consist of ~30 real players and ~23 undrafted rookies.

2020 DRAFT
1(32)--RG Hardy Gardner (25/71)--Guard is the one position where I really have one under contract that I'd like to start, so having a guard show up as one of the better players at this point was nice. Barring a major volatility hit, Garder starts from day 1.

Not a ton to report in camp. We've got much of the same team as last year, but with little/no depth.

Wow. We took the title again, with some monster numbers. I've been playing around with my GP and with TC settings. I don't know if it's one of those, or something else, but yowza.

One of my favorite players, DE Mo Reck, retires. He was drafted 2(7) in 2012: Quote:
WR Curtis gets franchised. G Gardner, the only draftee from last year, goes to summer league. We head to FA1:1 with ~$35M max for new player. It's better than last year, at least.

Looks like we can remain legal by doing a bunch of renegs and cutting only one starter. FB Keith Reeves has had a couple of solid receiving seasons since we opened things up a bit, but at this point, he's excess as the running game is no longer the focal point. I also have to swap some picks for future.
2021 DRAFT 1(32)--FB Herman Anthony (31/50): Heh. We cut our fullback, and the bpa at 1(32) is....a fullback. Nice. 2(32)--C David Fredericks (22/78): 1 red and 2 blues. 4(22)--LT Bruce O'Neill (18/42): 1 red and 2 blues
