Well, I'm very convincing! Also, I'll probably make him stay 5 years. In a pass first offense.

It's time for a new OC. I like this guy's top line numbers, which are always more important to me than the development ratings. And even there, he can develop where my focus is: QB, WR, and OL.

Week 1: Connecticut (0-0) at Idaho (0-0)

Great start to the career of DJ Fassero. He throws three TD passes to stake us to a 31-3 lead. Then when UConn mounted a furious comeback to make it a 4 pt game, Fassero had one last TD drive in him to put it away. Special mention to our defense, which sacked UConn's QB 10 times.

*Our Academic Rep has improved and the recruiting prospects look pretty good.

Week 2: #14 Toledo (1-0) at #22 Idaho (1-0)

Fassero isn't quite as sharp in this one and we trailed for most of the game. Toledo's kicker had a great game, including a 56 yard FG as time expired at the half. Toledo took a 23-13 lead into the 4th quarter. There great special teams play from P Sanderson and S Emmons got us the ball at the Toledo 18 where we capitalize to make it 23-20. On the next drive, the defense picked off Toledo's QB. We capitalized on another short field to take the 27-23 lead. The defense shut Toledo down to give us a 2-0 start!

*We fall to #42 in the rankings.

*Arizona continues to suck, even without their awful QB. They've lost their first two games this season and are now 1-23 since this dynasty started. Their Prestige is actually lower than ours at this point.

*Other teams that have performed terribly include UAB (2-22), Indiana (2-22), and Rutgers (3-21).

*The top performing teams are Georgia (26-2), USC (24-3), Texas (23-4), and Bowling Green (24-5).

Week 4: #42 Idaho (2-0) at Troy (1-1)

Well, this is more of the type of game I expected from Fassero at the beginning of the season. It wasn't pretty. He threw 6 picks and our defense was helpless dealing with all the short fields.

Code:
Box Score: Idaho at Troy Montgomery, AL. Week 4, 2006 Attendance: 26,000 (30,000). Game MVP: TROY 39 Byron Wells Idaho 3 0 0 0 - 3 Troy 7 6 14 14 - 41

QB Fassero 15-37-193-0-6
WR Abeykoon 5-97-0
ILB Kennedy 14 tackles, 3 assists
DT Roosenraad 8 tackles, 3 assists

*This loss drops us to #51 in the rankings.

*Arizona lost to Virginia 48-10.

Week 6: Arkansas State (0-3) at Idaho (2-1)

Well, Arkansas State sucks. That much is clear. They actually started off with a good drive until an interception in the red zone. On the very next play, Fassero found Abeykoon for a 90 yard TD. An Arkansas State 3 and out was followed by a 43 yard TD pass two plays later. There was no looking back. It got so ugly that Fassero was replaced before halftime.

Fassero struggled again, but we were in this throughout. A huge 70 yard fumble return for a TD by true Freshman CB Goetti put us within 1, but the extra point was missed. New Mexico State added a TD and FG to seal the game.

Week 8: Louisiana-Lafayette (2-2) at Idaho (3-2)

It's a Jekyll and Hyde act for Fassero as he rebounds with a 400 yard effort and we defeat Louisiana-Lafayette for the third straight year. They hung in there for quite a bit, but Fassero's steady performance helped us pull away in the 2nd half.

Week 9: North Texas (1-5) at Idaho (4-2)

Fassero finally put together two strong games in a row and North Texas has no hope of stopping our offense. We really pour it on after having to settle for two early FG's and end up with 566 total yards.

Week 11: Utah State (4-4) at Idaho (5-2)

Well, we really blew this one. A Fassero TD pass gave us a 14-7 lead with 8 minutes left in the 4th. And we held that lead until 1:18 left in the game, when Utah State completed a 43 yard TD pass to tie it up. On the very next play from scrimmage, Fassero is intercepted. Two plays after that, Utah State scored on a 15 yard run to win it 21-14. Games like this are why I won't feel so bad when Fassero loses his starting job to Stuvaints next year.

Week 12: Idaho (5-3) at Middle Tennessee State (7-1)

We almost blow another one. Despite us leading all game, Middle Tenn scored 10 pts in the final 8 minutes to force OT. Luckily, we came through in the clutch this time. Fassero threw a 25 yard TD pass on the 2nd play of OT. On the very next play, Emmons forced a fumble and Barlow recovered it to seal the victory.

*This wraps up a very successful recruiting year. I was able to snag 16 guys in the top 1000.

Week 13: Idaho (6-3) at Louisiana-Monroe (3-7)

Fassero struggles without his top two receivers and we don't focus enough on the run game. It was still a one score game most of the way until Fassero threw an INT to kill a good drive in the 4th. Louisiana-Monroe capitalized to make it a two score game with 2:01 left.

Week 14: #18 Boise State (8-2) at Idaho (6-4)

I emphasize the run a little bit more, but to no avail as Phillips is stuffed. Not that more passes would've done much because Fassero was picked off three times. However, the defense did an incredible job of keeping us in this game, holding Boise State's QB to 11 for 32, 117 yards, 0 TD, and 4 INT. But we made too many mistakes (4 turnovers) and could not convert on 3rd down (2-14).

*#2 Texas A&M beat #11 Texas 31-17
*#3 Michigan and #4 USC are done for the season and simply waiting to see if one of the top two lose next week.

*Our season is over. No bowl game for us this year.

*We didn't improve on last year's 6-5 record, but at least we didn't regress with the downgrade at QB.

*Notre Dame doesn't fool around and clinches their spot in the title game with an 84-9 beat down of Florida Tech.

*Texas A&M clinches their spot by beating Nebraska 35-27 in the Big 12 title game.

Graduating Seniors

WR Lee Solorio

One of the better players I was given to start my career. I decided not to shirt him as a Sophomore, but he ended up spending most of the season sidelined with an injury. He started all 11 games as a junior and had a decent season with 43 catches, 557 yards, and 11 TD. Then his senior season was marred by another injury.

T Bryan Munoz

Three year starter. Not a great player, but was dependable.

P Terrence Sanderson

Was National All-Academic Punter in 2006. Had some good games here and there, but not very good at downing punts inside the 20.

DE Sean Horne

A 3 year starter who had a great junior year with 13.5 sacks. However, he caught the dreaded Repetitive Concussion Syndrome after 6 games as a Senior and his career was over.

DT Kelly Roosenraad

DT was one of my better positions to start off with, so Roosenraad sat on the bench for two seasons. But he produced a very good Senior season with consistently good run defense.

Awards: 2006 Sun Belt 1st Team

OLB Myron Barlow

Was one of the best players I had to start with and one of the few I redshirted in my initial season. Solid two year starter.

Awards: 2005 Sun Belt 1st Team, 2006 Sun Belt 1st Team

S Fernando Emmons

Two year starter. Had a great senior season with 45 tackles, 12 assists, and 6 INT's.

Awards: 2006 Sun Belt 2nd Team

Bad news to start the year. My Offensive Coordinator stepped down after one season. So I have to get another one and he's not as good...

Added a bunch of stats and rankings to the 2nd post in this thread, so we can track how we're improving throughout this dynasty.

Here are your 2007 Idaho Vandals

Pre-season Rankings...

Overall: 81st
Sun Belt: 5th

Starters in bold

Code:
Idaho Roster, Scout Overview Player # Pos Elig Current Estimate Future Estimate Fassero, D.J. 5 QB Jr* 36 39 Pientka, Roy 13 QB So* 20 39 Stuvaints, Reuben 8 QB Fr 24 62 Dabrowa, Preston 14 QB* Sr* 10 28 Houseright, Bryant 12 QB* Sr* 5 15

Very disappointed at how Stuvaints looks. His Avoid INT rating is terrible and he cannot throw the long ball. His Future Estimate still looks decent and maybe there's some scout error here. Still, I think there's enough pause to let Fassero take the reins for another season and let Stuvaints develop.

Code:
Stickney, Jay 46 RB Sr 26 50 Phillips, Bob 26 RB Jr* 37 70 Luther, Dana 22 RB So* 51 72 Gibson, Bart 36 RB* Jr 18 18 Ellison, Vincent 30 FB Sr 22 59 Pilgrim, Max 47 FB Sr 31 31 Emmons, Bubba 31 FB* Jr* 26 26 Del Greco, Luther 25 FB* So 5 5

Luther looks to be the real deal. I'll have to add more runs and screen passes into my gameplan this season.

Code:
Johnson, Colin 99 TE Jr 33 51 Flemming, Harry 94 TE Fr 17 51 Warren, Geoff 87 TE* Fr 3 17 Murphy, Jonathan 93 TE* Fr 2 6 Parrish, Lance 80 WR Sr 22 22 Keith, Norbert 6 WR Sr 10 27 Abeykoon, Derek 7 WR Jr 32 68 Holmberg, Kirk 88 WR Jr 43 60 Branch, Leon 3 WR So 23 77 Gaines, Danny 85 WR Fr 25 74 Monroe, Rob 4 WR Fr 25 79

No depth at TE means I need to keep the shirt off Flemming. Monroe will be the #3 WR as a true Freshman, while Gaines will get the shirt.

Code:
Cambini, Brad 51 C Sr 30 43 Parker, Jermaine 55 C Sr 36 36 Quinn, Tito 54 C Jr* 25 44 Wilson, Kyle 56 C So* 23 72 McNaught, Randal 52 C Fr 12 54 Austin, Monty 77 G Sr 13 26 Sheldon, Kevin 64 G Jr 38 56 Morrison, Chester 75 G So 24 68 Clancy, Henry 66 G Fr 11 69 Carlson, Rico 73 G Fr 3 78 Carlisle, Benjamin 69 G* Sr 15 33 Dylla, Mike 79 G* Sr 10 39 Turnbull, Victor 78 G* Sr 13 30 Magazine, Daniel 67 T Sr* 10 40 Lenz, Bart 63 T Sr 13 28 Small, Jermaine 65 T Jr* 16 62 McClenney, Kendall 60 T So 21 89 Wolff, Steven 71 T Fr 16 54 Wayman, Kenneth 68 T Fr 11 63 Howard, Gary 61 T* Jr* 6 12

Dept at C, so McNaught gets the shirt. I had a good class of Guards and tackles, so I'm able to let Wayman and Carlson develop.

Code:
DeVito, Harvey 1 P Fr 46 57 Agnew, Jerome 10 P* So* 18 23 Gray, Darrin 18 K Sr 28 30 Kattus, Lawrence 16 K Sr 30 42 Copeland, Corey 19 K Fr 12 83

Copeland looks really good, but could use a year of development, so I'll let Kattus finish his career as the starter. This will also mean I won't need a new K/P in the same class next time around.

Code:
Cumming, Patrick 76 DE Jr* 17 44 Arteaga, Conrad 91 DE So 28 85 Perkins, Wesley 92 DE Fr 7 72 MacKay, Charlie 95 DE* Sr 13 23 Timms, Norm 98 DT Jr* 22 53 Newhart, Renaldo 97 DT So 13 57 Niebauer, Alvin 72 DT Fr 14 75 Scott, Mitch 96 DT* Fr 1 2 Bernstein, Artie 74 DT* Fr 8 8

And here's where my depth might kill me. Perkins will need to play right away as a backup. Timms was suspended for getting in a bar fight over the summer, so I only have two playable DT's.

Code:
Kennedy, Zach 41 ILB Jr 33 66 Newton, Will 90 ILB So* 46 75 Deane, Sean 58 ILB* Sr 7 7 Stargell, Gene 42 ILB* Fr 5 5 Coleman, Warren 57 OLB Jr* 21 51 Newman, Roman 53 OLB Jr* 38 50 Fisk, Dennis 50 OLB So* 24 71 Malone, Buddy 40 OLB Fr 28 46 Kruse, Steve 59 OLB* Sr 9 9

Kennedy had a fantastic year, but Newton is just way better. I really don't like the 3-4, so I may try playing Kennedy at OLB while he backs up Newton at ILB.

Code:
Nutter, Wendell 45 CB Jr 45 45 Person, Calvin 32 CB So 12 50 Goettl, Deon 43 CB So 34 51 Coleman, Phil 24 CB Fr 22 56 Meadows, Marco 38 CB* Sr 6 6 Fisk, Larry 27 S Jr 27 89 Lucas, Alex 28 S So* 16 60 Houlihan, Stephen 21 S So 21 61 Walton, Stanley 33 S Fr 31 54 Wiggs, Donnell 35 S* Jr 3 6 Hanks, Scott 34 S* So 2 2

Luckily, we have some depth here and can shirt both Freshmen. Walton is disappointing in that he has terrible Man to Man defense, which is a majority of the coverages I run.

Week 1: Akron (0-0) at Idaho (0-0)

Some things worked and some things didn't with my new game plan. Luther is the real deal as he put up a 119 yard effort. However, the screen passes didn't work at all and Luther actually ended up with 7 catches for -12 yards. Definitely scratching that. We lead the entire game. Akron keeps it close, but the strong running from Luther and opportunistic defense (4 turnovers) prevents a comeback.

Week 2: Eastern Michigan (0-0) at #22 Idaho (1-0)

Welcome to the Dana Luther show! He completely dominates the Eastern Michigan defense for 205 yards. We still struggled early in this one because our red zone offense had to settle for FG's 4 times and the defense gave up some big runs. But we executed much better in the 2nd half and completely shut them down.

*I'm amused at following Arizona's continued suckitude. Can they ever turn it around? This week they fall to Bowling Green 38-3.

*I focus recruiting on building depth for the defensive line and finding another QB.

Week 5: North Texas (0-3) at #33 Idaho (2-0)

Dana Luther does it again! He goes for 165 yards and Phillips adds 58 of his own as North Texas has no hope against our running offense. The defense is on fire as well with 11 sacks. North Texas threatens to get back in it with 17 consecutive points, but Luther seals it with a 4th quarter TD run.

Week 6: #35 Idaho (3-0) at Arkansas State (0-3)

We really don't play good in this one at all against a terrible Arkansas State team. We fumble the opening kickoff and Arkansas State capitalizes to take an early 7-0 lead. We quickly take the lead back with two 1st quarter TD passes. However, we are not able to put them away. They score twice in the 4th quarter to cut the lead to 20-17 and manage to get the ball to our 41 yard line with 10 seconds left, but Arteaga's 4th sack of the day seals the win for us.

Week 8: #23 Idaho (4-0) at Louisiana-Monroe (1-3)

Well we laid an egg in this one. Luther never gets going as we fall behind early due to numerous mistakes on both sides of the ball. It's 30-7 at the start of the 14th quarter. Fassero manages some big pass plays to close the game to 30-22 (I'm triggered by the fact that we kicked an XP on the 2nd TD). However, Fassero chokes in the clutch as he throws two INT's in Louisiana-Monroe territory in the last 2 minutes.

Week 9: Middle Tennessee State (3-3) at #39 Idaho (4-1)

Luther gets injured in this one and will be out for 6 weeks. Phillips picks up the slack and records his own 100 yard game. The defense comes up with two pick sixes (and 5 picks in total) and Fassero recovers from last week's choke for a fairly easy victory.

Week 11: New Mexico State (4-4) at #26 Idaho (6-1)

Sloppy mistakes from our offense and inability to get stops from our defense doomed us in this one. We still almost pulled out a close battle, but a Fassero 4th quarter INT killed our last comeback attempt.

Without Luther, our running game can't get going and Fassero struggles. This allows Utah State to build a 20-0 lead. Fassero gets hot int he 4th quarter and throws two TD passes to make it a one score game, but chokes in the clutch once again with an INT on the potential game winning drive.

Week 13: Idaho (6-3) at Troy (6-3)

Now this was a crazy game. We come out completely flat and Troy builds a 23-0 lead early in the 3rd quarter. We then score 35 consecutive points, including a 91 yard fumble return, to take a 35-23 lead. Troy mounts their own comeback, scoring a TD with 3 minutes left and forcing a three and out. With the ball at their own 27 and 2:01 left, our defense stops Troy on 4 straight plays to clinch the victory. This finally puts us at the 7 win mark.

We still have some improvements to make before we can beat Boise State. They simply have more talent than us. The game is especially hopeless once Luther goes down in the 1st quarter. Our offense falls apart without him and can only manage some garbage time points.

*Luther will require Reconstructive Knee Surgery and be out for 44 weeks. Oooof!

*Arizona completes another winless season with a 37-0 defeat at the hands of rival Arizona State.

*The big question going into next week's games is if LSU and Texas A&M win their conference championship games, will they jump ahead of idle Michigan for a spot in the title game?

Week 15: Bye

*Our season is over and we don't get invited to a bowl. We finally broke through to the 7 win mark.

*LSU beats Tennessee 40-10 in the SEC championship and jumps up to #1 in the rankings.

*Texas A&M beats Nebraska 21-13 in the Big 12 championship, but that's not enough to move them up to #2.

*Very controversial decision here as 1 loss Michigan makes the title game over undefeated Texas A&M. The decider was strength of schedule: Michigan (25th), Texas A&M (78th).

*FB Zach Woodard agrees to come to Idaho as a walk-on. We don't play FB's, so I recruit academic walk-ons to fill those spots in the depth chart.

*We nab a stud Tackle, a very good QB/WR combo and some quality depth on defense. However, I did have to settle for a couple guys outside the top 1000 to round out the class.

Michigan shut up any doubters about their worthiness by owning LSU 26-0 in the title game.

Graduating Seniors

C Jermaine Parker

Three year starter who had a terrific senior season in only allowing 3 sacks.

K Lawrence Kattus

Decent over the last couple seasons, making 28 of 36 FG attempts.

RB Jay Stickney

Ran for 531 yards as a Sophomore, but fell down the depth chart as more talented recruits came in and only had 70 yards as a Senior.

2008 Idaho Roster and Rankings

Definitely our best squad yet.

National Ranking: 65th
Sun Belt Ranking: 3rd

Starters in bold

Code:

Tough decision to be made here. Fassero had a boost in his ratings (same scout). Stuvaints has more overall potential, but also a much worse Avoid INT rating. I was really hoping to move on from Fassero, but I think I'll have to let him start the season. Pierce is the QB of the future and will get the shirt.

Luther, Dana 22 RB Jr* 56 72 Phillips, Bob 26 RB Sr* 41 70 Kemp, Drew 37 RB Fr 28 76 Gibson, Bart 36 RB* Sr 19 19 Burroughs, Gus 23 RB* Fr 10 17 Ellison, Vincent 30 FB Sr 21 59 Emmons, Bubba 31 FB* Sr* 25 25 Woodard, Zack 39 FB* Fr 16 50 Del Greco, Luther 25 FB* Jr 7 7

Luther's injuury was so bad that he has 11 more weeks to heal, so Phillips will get the start at first. Kemp will be needed as a backup right away.

Code:
Johnson, Colin 99 TE Sr 40 51 Flemming, Harry 94 TE So 23 51 Romine, Mo 89 TE Fr 13 44 Murphy, Jonathan 93 TE* So 3 6 Warren, Geoff 87 TE* So 3 17 Holmberg, Kirk 88 WR Sr 53 60 Gaines, Danny 85 WR So 36 74 Abeykoon, Derek 7 WR Sr 34 68 Monroe, Rob 4 WR So* 33 79 Harding, Steven 9 WR Fr 32 59 Branch, Leon 3 WR Jr 28 77 Greene, Terrance 6 WR Fr 22 68 Flannery, Trevor 81 WR* So 6 24

Finally some depth at WR and I'm able to give the shirt to both Freshmen. My new TE recruit is terrible. I will look for a good one next recruiting class.

Code:
Quinn, Tito 54 C Sr* 29 44 Wilson, Kyle 56 C Jr* 27 72 McNaught, Randal 52 C So* 25 54 Sheldon, Kevin 64 G Sr 45 56 Morrison, Chester 75 G Jr 41 68 Clancy, Henry 66 G So 35 69 Carlson, Rico 73 G So* 17 78 Garrison, Russell 62 G Fr 8 57 Dylla, Mike 79 G* Sr 8 39 McClenney, Kendall 60 T Jr 46 89 Wayman, Kenneth 68 T So* 25 63 Wolff, Steven 71 T So 23 54 Small, Jermaine 65 T Sr* 21 62 Connell, Lewis 78 T Fr 19 74 Magazine, Daniel 67 T Sr 11 40 Howard, Gary 61 T* Sr* 6 12

We finally have some depth on the line and I'm able to redshirt all of my recruits.

Code:
DeVito, Harvey 1 P So 61 61 McDonnell, Tito 11 P* Fr 4 4 Copeland, Corey 19 K So* 43 83 Zimmerman, Orlando 16 K* Fr 6 6

Special Teams look to be good this year.

Code:
Arteaga, Conrad 91 DE Jr 55 85 Cumming, Patrick 76 DE Sr* 31 44 Brill, Will 95 DE Fr 18 74 Degley, Leon 77 DE Fr 14 52 Perkins, Wesley 92 DE So 11 72 Wagner, Thomas 70 DE* So 6 28 Niebauer, Alvin 72 DT So 29 75 Manning, Nick 69 DT Fr 26 49 Timms, Norm 98 DT Sr* 18 53 Newhart, Renaldo 97 DT Jr 17 57 McKenzie, Cary 55 DT Fr 12 48 Bernstein, Artie 74 DT* So 10 10 Scott, Mitch 96 DT* So 1 2

I still lack depth here, but since I was able to get two recruits at both DE and DT, I'm able to shirt one and play the other. Brill and McKenzie get the shirt.

Code:
Newton, Will 90 ILB Jr* 65 75 Kennedy, Zach 41 ILB Sr 37 66 Brutley, Deion 48 ILB Fr 9 69 Stargell, Gene 42 ILB* So 5 5 Newman, Roman 53 OLB Sr* 44 50 Fisk, Dennis 50 OLB Jr* 33 71 Malone, Buddy 40 OLB So 29 46 Coleman, Warren 57 OLB Sr* 23 51 Soper, Jose 47 OLB Fr 7 45

Very strong group here. Newton is a stud. Both freshmen get the shirt.

Code:
Goettl, Deon 43 CB Jr 54 54 Nutter, Wendell 45 CB Sr 49 49 Person, Calvin 32 CB Jr 25 50 Coleman, Phil 24 CB So* 22 56 Hanks, Andrew 29 CB Fr 13 68 Williamson, Jack 20 CB* Fr 6 14 Houlihan, Stephen 21 S Jr 35 61 Walton, Stanley 33 S So* 34 54 Isaacson, Chad 49 S Fr 28 54 Fisk, Larry 27 S Sr 27 89 Lucas, Alex 28 S Jr* 22 60 Wiggs, Donnell 35 S* Sr 3 6 Hanks, Scott 34 S* Jr 2 2

Person was suspended for getting into a bar fight over the summer. This will leave me with only 3 CB's. I still give Hanks the shirt and will pull it if injuries pile up. Isaacson also gets the shirt.

Week 1: Navy (0-0) at Idaho (0-0)

Well the tough decision I had about QB was made easier this week. Fassero earned himself a demotion with a miserable game where he threw 5 INT's, including two pick sixes. This was a very winnable game and a terrible way to start the season.
