After generating some random numbers (both the items are fighter items, so the Wizards and Clerics were out of the equation), Godzilla Blitz and law90026 are the lucky recipients of the Hydra's Fang and the Flame Sword. My ancient coin of Valentinian II from Rome (http://www.random.org/cgi-bin/randfl...valentinian-ii) came up Heads, so Godzilla Blitz got the Hydra's Fang, and law90026 gets the Flame Sword. Here's our stat leaders after the first battle:

So I also played through the second battle yesterday night (writeup coming later), and man do we have a horseshoe up our collective rear-ends. We have found another great Class-Change item, the Stone of Dragos. This brings up a question that I have been trying to figure out how to solve since the beginning, though. How to decide who gets it? Currently we have two characters, cschex and law90026, who could use the item in the future (it changes a Beast Master to a Dragon Tamer). How to decide between the two? I'd like there to be some sort of competition between the two of them, but I have no way to do that in-game (kills are a little too random, and it would be tough to be fair to the two of them, since they are in completely different groups). I'm going to continue to try to figure it out, but I would appreciate any suggestions -- we've probably got a good 5 or 6 battles before either of them is of a high enough level to use the Stone anyways.

Maybe as a first course of action, list the item and what it can do (and what it would take for the character to use it, if they'd have to follow a specific path, etc) and see if one, both, all characters involved would want to travel that road. If more than one ends up wanting it, then I would personally say it should be up to you to give it to whoever would most benefit the entire group the most in having it. If more than one character involved could use it to equal effectiveness/importance to the army's overall benefit, then a coin toss if those involved at least answer in the thread that they're still following along?

Battle 3: Sharom District
The Warrior Gilbert is a reputable man, but he has bowed to the will of the Empire for the sake of his people. Granted an autonomy for his cooperation, he rules the Sharom District himself. Wow am I a terrible artist As you can see, we start in Llwelyn in the North. Parcival is Gilbert's HQ, and we will face all threats coming from there. I expect most of the fighting to go on around Chang'Ga, and I'm not sure we will reach it to liberate it before engaging the enemy forces. Since some of our guys didn't get much action last battle, I'm going to try to get them involved this time around. kingfc22 and his Liberators head South on the East fork of the road, liberating the Roshian Temple, and then heading towards Sagebard. cschex and the Heavy Hitters follow, and garrison the Roshian Temple when the Liberators move on. From there, they hold their positions. Sublime 2 has a new addition to his unit, Princess Misha. She allows everyone in the group to gain an extra attack each battle, a tremendous advantage. Even with a mere three Amazons and a Cleric, she makes the group a tremendous asset. Since she's also highly aligned, Sublime's group is almost as good a Liberating unit as kingfc22. They head along the southwest road, Liberating Vannu and then pressing forward towards Chang'Ga. sachmo71 and the Wizards, with their new Dragon leading the way, follow Sublime to make the garrison at Vannu. Travis and the Brawlers, with the promotion to Hawk Man of Raven Hawk, have become an incredibly versatile unit, as they now travel the Low Sky. Outside of mountain ranges, they can cover lots of ground very quickly now. They accompany Sublime in the assault towards Chang'Ga. law90026, fresh off his recruiting mission, is going to be utilized as a High Flier this battle. Initially, he is ordered to fly west, to liberate the Roshian Temple and the town of Bah'Wahl on the western Island. Then, once they are liberated, he is to sweep south towards Parcival, and come upon Chang'Ga from the rear, where the heavy fighting should be going on. law90026 and his Griffons should be able to clean up any units straggling from the attacks of Sublime and Travis. Even though the island to the west is far off, we don't want our reputation damaged by cities falling back into imperial hands. So we deploy Iva and her Octopi to lurk in the ocean arond Bah'Wahl -- if anyone approaches the city, they will strike, and it is incredibly difficult to defeat Octopi once they are in the water. The battle starts off smoothly -- we again advance more quickly than I expected. We also start off with a bonus; kingfc22 and the Liberators discover the Honour Shield at the Roshian Temple, an item that provides excellent Physical protection and a slight benefit to White magic. BYU 14 equips it for the remainder of the battle. Vannu and Sagebard are both liberated, the Garrisons in place, and Travis and Sublime are both approaching the city of Chang'Ga with as yet no resistance. law90026 sweeps through the Roshian Temple and Bah'Wahl, finding some buried treasure along the way in the form of the Sword of Evil -- a +16 strength sword! Strangely enough, one of law's griffons seems to be content to swing it with his talons, and he equips it for the remainder of the battle. The citizens of Bah'Wahl tell of a legendary fighter called 'The Wind Rider' who lives there. Meanwhile, Travis and Sublime have spotted the enemy. Though their units are put together a bit more intelligently, and we are facing some tougher characters like Ninja, we like our chances as Sublime engages the first of them... Wow. Just, wow. I knew that a Princess would improve any group, but Sublime, Misha and the Amazons just tore the enemy to shreds. It usually only took one round of battle for an entire enemy unit to be wiped out, even though all the characters in our unit were only level 2 versus the Level 4 characters of the enemy. Sublime's 3 heals per battle kept the unit in tip-top shape, and we probably could have marched straight over to Parcival with them...but we realized that the rest of the army wouldn't like that very much. By the time we pushed our way to Chang'Ga, Sublime and all his cohorts had advanced two levels each, and the enemy was in dissarray already. In order to spread the fun around, we sent Sublime back to base. Since we had the enemy so well under control already, we ordered kingfc22 and the Liberators to move on to Lenikan, had cschex and the Heavy Hitters move on down to garrison Sagebard, and deployed some of our non-FOFC Units to try to get them some experience. Travis and the Brawlers held Chang'Ga as law90026 approached the remaining pieces of the enemy's first wave from the rear after finding their second treasure of the battle, the Thunder Gloves. They would later hand the gloves off to the Valkyrie Natalie, who was one of the support units dispatched late. With a whole slew of enemy units still reeling, law90026 swooped in and made mincemeat of them. While the lead Griffon swooped and attacked with the Sword of Evil, the rear Griffon buffeted all the enemies with a wind storm. The snap of law90026's whip was enough to fell 4 separate enemies! Those that were not killed were forced to retreat towards Travis and Raven Hawk at Chang'Ga, where Raven Hawk was able to notch 3 more kills. The first wave of enemies had been successfully annihilated. With their newfound experience, we cleared the way for others to have some fun, and sent Travis and the Brawlers of exploring to the Southeast, and sent law90026 off to the road to the west of Parcival, which seemed to lead to nowhere. kingfc22 liberated Lenikan, where we found out that Canopus the Wind Rider was a great friend of Gilbert's, but he couldn't understand how Gilbert had given up his honor by bowing to the Empire. Someone suggests we should find Canopus' sister Yulia. At this point, the enemy sends forth his second wave of units as Travis is replaced at Chang'Ga by two non-FOFC units. Strangely, this second set of enemies disregards Chang'Ga completely, and heads straight for kingfc22 at Lenikan! No match for the might of kingfc22, BYU 14, tucker342 and MrBug708, the enemy is quickly repelled, as BYU 14 picks up 3 kills and tucker342 notches his first kill as well. MrBug708 keeps the party's health up, and manages to get a level up in the process, along with everyone else in the group. However, now kingfc22 and tucker342 are at level 5 -- higher than that of our enemies. Worried about their Alignment, I order cschex and the Heavy Hitters to come relieve them as the lower-level non-FOFC units come straight across the river to engage the remaining enemies. With law90026 just to the west of Parcival, he is our eyes and can see what is going on there. Not only that, but he has found a hidden Roshian Temple, and Yulia, Canopus's sister. She gives us the Wing of Victory, and asks us to reunite her brother with his friend Gilbert. A return to Bah'Wahl (by Iva -- law90026 is too valuable as a pair of eyes on Parcival), and Canopus agrees to join! We deploy him immediately, and send him towards Parcival. Our non-FOFC units get a little bit of experience, but are quite obviously over their heads against the higher-level opposition. Shortly thereafter, the Heavy Hitters step in, and make easy work of the tattered remaining enemy forces. Blade6119 gets one kill, while Godzilla Blitz and cschex pick up 2 each as the second wave of enemies is completely obliterated. Meanwhile, Travis has found a rare treasure indeed to the Southeast: the Boleas, the Axe of the South Wind God. Good for +17 strength, Raven Hawk equips it for the time being. With nothing left to do, we patiently wait both for noon when we receive our tribute, and for Canopus to approach Gilbert in Parcival. We don't have long to wait, as Canopus defeats Gilbert and his two Wyrm guardians. After the battle, Canopus pleads with us to forgive Gilbert, which we of course do -- he shall be a staunch compatriot in the battles ahead. With that, the Sharom District is ours!

And our new stat leaders:
Our Beastmen, law90026 in particular, made HUGE strides in Charisma this go 'round, gaining 36 points in one battle. Lastly, the item draw... First, we managed to find a Tome of Learning off one of the opposing units during the last battle -- it will raise one character's intelligence. That means our spellcasters and healers are interested in it: sachmo71, katon, JeeberD, MrBug708 and Sublime 2. The lucky winner is...Sublime 2! We'll find the results of the Tome next time I fire the game up. The Thunder Gloves obviously look best on a Valkyrie, so our other Valkyrie gets our second Thunder item. The Honour Shield should go to a frontline fighter, since it provides great protection, which means these guys are eligible: kingfc22, Raven Hawk and BYU 14. The survey says...kingfc22! The Boleas is an honorable, strong axe. One of our fighter types should have it: Raven Hawk, BYU 14, Travis, or cschex. And the winner is...Raven Hawk! Last, and possibly least, is the Sword of Evil. Though the description doesn't mention any penalties, I find it hard to believe that a sword with that name doesn't affect Alignment in some way...anyhow, it's a powerful weapon, so the same group of people are up for it: BYU 14, Travis or cschex. Behind door #3 we have...Travis! If the sword has negative alignment properties, I'm probably going to hand it off to cschex, as his class is more suitable to evil-ness. Coming up next, we have a decision to make. We can either assault the Pogrom Forest, or Lake Jansenia. I'm not sure if I'll do this battle today, or cool off for a little bit. Depends upon how bored I get, I guess

Well, you guys were sort of chillin' on guard duty last battle. You Wizards started at level 4, which is already at the level of our opponents. Because of that, your alignment was dropping rapidly, and while Wizards aren't the most reputable lot in this game, there ARE minimum requirements to advance. I didn't want you guys to start bottoming out right away, so I've been holding you back. Quote:
Cool! Just pick a troop off the roster in post two of the thread, and I'll attach your name to him, and start reporting on what you do. Quote:
Good times. I just realized there would be like 14 different guys I'd have to sort through and give you stats on, so I'm just going to pick the most well-rounded guy we have. I'll post your character later tonight, when I get home.

Also -- Blade, this is the Playstation port of the Super Nintendo game. I'm playing the game on my PS2. Here's an E-Bay auction for the game: http://cgi.ebay.com/Ogre-Battle-Limi...QQcmdZViewItem I bought this as soon as it came out, so I have no idea how hard they are to find nowadays. I know that to this day, even though I have been actively looking since about 1998, I still can't find a SNES Cart.

Hmmm . . . good question. There are many different paths that one can go with this. *squak* Although crass and effective, the name Brawlers infers that we are nothing more than second rate bar fighters. *squak* I would suggest the name of "Red Steel" is more befitting as it focuses more on our skills with the blade and our abilities to cover those blades with enemy blood. Yet, I defer to your preferences, Captain. *squak* Many thanks for the fine axe that has been given to my care. I will use The Boleas with pride. Ahhh . . . pish! *squak* It's all in good fun, oh giant one. *squak* Besides, do you really take stock in the words of a being who spends half of the day licking his own testicles? *squak* |

How does the "Crimson Slayers" sound to you Man of the Skies? I appreciate the blood motif, and thought your idea of incorporating our specialty could possibly be taken just one step farther. Whether it's swords, axes, talons, hands or sonic energy, our foes will fall one by one or in hordes. It's their choice how they come to us, and ours as to how they'll leave. |

Hey Vince, I'd like to take one of the fighters with a view to becoming a ninja master in the future. If you got one that has promise in that direction, I'd love to be in on this. Just wish I had this game myself, I remember playing it on SNES way back in the day, loved it.

Was there a creature greater than the golem?
I think not.

Tellistto -- consider yourself added!
As for the rest...I was going to post all the new guys' stats (Ardent the Griffon, ntndeacon the Fighter and Tellistto the Fighter...but my PS2 is having issues, and I'm off to my parents' house for dinner. So hopefully tonight my PS2 will work better than it is right now.

Ok, a little doctoring of my OB Disc, and it's working again Here's the entire troop roster at the moment, with the new recruits bolded:

Non-FOFC Troop News: During the last battle, a Fighter in the Brawlers/Red Steel/Crimson Slayers named Baron promoted to a Doll Mage! He joins Travis the Samurai in the back row, throwing clouds of Acid at the entire enemy party once per battle.
Doesn't that attack sound WAY too cool to come from a character named a Doll Mage? Sheesh. Also, new recruits Tellistto and ntndeacon the Fighters join the selfsame group of Brawlers/Red Steel/Crimson Slayers, flanking Raven Hawk in the front row with their sword strikes. Griffon ardent enthusiast joins the fray with law90026 as one of our Scouts!

Last, and most certainly least:
Anyone here have Excel-to-WYSIWYG Editor experience? My formatting on the cells (bold, color change, borders) are not showing up over here, and the tables are MUCH easier to read if they stay. I have to manually bold things for the moment, and that's annoying enough.

Not sure if it still holds true, but the last time I messed around with this I had to use Internet Explorer to get the formatting to work correctly. It didn't work with Firefox. |

Ok. Since you both are interested, I'll have to devise some sort of contest or something. We've got a bit of time before either of you will be able to use it, so I'll come up with something
