Why the hell is the reporter asking Barry about Roger Clemens' travel arrangement, anyway, if he's not trying to pry something provocative out of Barry? The question has nothing to do with Barry or Giants - they weren't even playing the Astros.

Let it go. It is not a remark that has any importance.

But but but everyone needs some little issue to nod their heads about (on both sides of the issue)!

I don't understand why there's even any anger toward Clemens.

Not many players retire while they're still among the best in the league. So it stands to reason that teams would want to entice Clemens out of retirement.

Clemens said he retired so that he could spend more time with his family. So Houston decided it could make an offer that accomodated him. What's the big deal here? What does this have to do with race?

I don't know if this is common knowledge, but it is standard practice for teams to send the starting pitcher for the first game of a series on an earlier flight than the rest of the team, even though it can mean missing a game they aren't scheduled to play in.

Starting pitchers are treated differently because they are definitely not going to play in most games.

I think Bonds expressed himself perfectly. He's a bigot. Just like John Rocker, only a much better hitter.

I like how Bonds pulled a nutty because someone dared to ask him about the Spiderman 2 bases...he let the expletives fly.

He's quite a class act. I can't believe people even bother to ask him questions anymore.

White people say that black people get special treatment every day. And black people say that white people get special treatment. That's what the whole debate about affirmative action is about, isn't it? And that's all Barry said, that Roger Clemens is getting special treatment because he's white. Now we all know that it's not true, that he's getting special treatment because the Astros wanted him on their roster enough to agree to that condition. Sometimes a dumb remark is just a dumb remark. Everyone makes them from time to time. Or shall I assume that none of you have ever said anything stupid?

I'm not sure why I seem to be reading it differently from most other people here. It's certainly not because I agree with Bonds, because I don't. I'm not seeing any anger towards Clemens or even to white people in general. Now, maybe Barry has said things before that would suggest a problem with white people, so maybe this is just something that adds on to it. I don't know. Anyway, taking his words literally (and maybe that's my mistake), it just seems like he's saying that a black person wouldn't get the same treatment. Maybe others see the following two statements as being identical, but I don't, and I guess that's my sticking point:

1. Roger Clemens is white, so he gets special travel arranagements.
2. A black player could not get these travel arrangements.

I don't know what Barry Bonds meant to say, but if he's saying #2, then I submit again that he's picking the wrong issue on which to make a stand for black people. If he's saying #1, then I agree that it's just a really stupid thing to say.

I imagine that a good lot of you would love to put a dunce cap on me right now.

They ask him questions in order to get these types of responses. After all, this is what journalism is about. You've gotta get people talking.

When you rack up the impressive list of dumb comments, rants, expletive laced tirades and generally stupid ass behavior it is shocking anyone ever noticed these comments by Bonds.

well it's not like he hasn't let the whole world know that for the last 8 years he has absolutely no interest in talking to anyone in the media.

They keep asking, he will keep saying stupid stuff. Not like he didn't warn you.

I'm missing the need for Barry to make a stand for black people. Seems to me that in this country of injustice he's doing just fine.

I know and I really don't care what he says. I'm amazed at how miserable this guy appears to be.

Well, don't people say that the people who "made it" should do something for the people who haven't yet? Again, this was a really bad issue for him to try to do that on, but I know several people who would be glad that he "spoke out." He could've just picked a better spot if he was indeed trying to do this, and he could've picked a much, much better way to say it.

First off, has anybody been able to find a transcript of the whole interview? Anyway, I disagree with the whole "let it go" thing. I am sure Barry is not the only baseball player who has a problem with this. He is just the only one who open his mouth.Barry's belief is that a black player could not asked for and/or receive a similar deal. Someone else might have a problem with it because of another reason such as a belief that there is no "i" in team and all players should be treated equally. Give me Barry opening his mouth and saying his true feeling than someone giving a "canned" answer to satisfy the masses

People keep mentioning the special treatment for a starting pitcher and it's completely reasonable. Will an asian, dominican, black pitcher get the same treatment? When a current one wins 310 games, strikes out 4500+ batters, wins 6 Cy Youngs, Rookie of the Year, MVP...I'm sure we'll find out. Unlike others, he took very little money (5 Million I believe?) and asked that he stay close to his family.

Pitchers often stay behind, go home early to throw, work out, do whatever. If Pedro were willing to drop his salary to 5-10 million, I'm sure the Red Sox would not only let him stay home whenever he wasn't pitching but would probably send some Ho's to the crib too.

See Barry...it's called I give, you give. He will break the HR record, as well as the all-time whining record.

It's under quote of the week.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...mqb/index.html

I think the point he was trying to make was: players should travel with their teams.

I also think Barry has alienated everyone to the point where he sees everything as an attack on himself. He probably felt he had to defend himself because he doesn't have such a perk and, for lack of anything better, his defense was the race card.

I hear he gets every other perk under the sun tho. He's such a tard using the race card in this instance, yet he wonders why people don't like him
