There may be times when you need to step back and let her have a little space and time to herself. During those times you can discretely watch through a window. A good move would to be to put some of those slatted doors on her closet to peek through, then you don't ever have to be too far away, and she still gets time to herself. Everyone's happy.

That's one of the funniest things I've ever read here. Johnny, I'm losing hope here. You don't debate a woman into staying in a relationship. It just doesn't work. Let her have her say, let her have her space, and let her think it's all your idea and you're having the time of your life without her. |

There's a line between devotion and desperation, between sympathetic and pathetic, and you're in danger of crossing it (if you haven't already). Quote:
Don't confuse this with the possibility (probability really) that she's not going to be attracted to you acting desperate and pathetic. She may feel bad that you're hurting, but it's extremely unlikely to be more attractive to her. Quote:
I'm 99% sure that a major part of the issue here is her feeling overwhelmed by you, that you're suffocating her. If that's all it is, you may still have a chance, but you have to be willing to back off and give her some room. Maybe she's willing to make an adjustment and get used to the idea of settling down with you. But then again, maybe not - she's only 23, and she could very well feel like she's just not ready to feel tied down, that she wants the freedom to explore other experiences. Maybe in time she'll decide that she does want to settle down and that you're the best person, but if you scare her away now by being too desperate you might never get that opportunity. And you may well not be interested down the road because you've found someone better. Don't revolve your entire life around her - have your own life, be strong, be confident in yourself and be honest with yourself on the things you could do to better be who you really want to be. Doing so will both make you more attractive to others and make you less dependent on their affections to make you happy. Last edited by dawgfan : 07-04-2005 at 03:43 PM. |

If you both had this conversation last week - where she was being inattentive - it means she'd rather be ALONE than with you. There is no negotiation here. Man, if she was head over heels in love with you having less space than normal would be a GOOD thing. Please, take a step back and take off the "goo-goo" eyeglasses. She won't like the "please stay with me, I change routine". It's sickening to us and it's sickening to her. Unfortunately, I have to agree with the others that this will most likely end poorly.

Hey man, I feel your pain as I just had this happen with my girlfriend of three years just this past March. She aske for a break and we took it, then she decided she wanted to end the relationship, you think five months is hard? Try losing the girl you love after three years. Needless to say it's July and I'm still thinking about it all the time, it isn't easy but you have to get by it, I admit when we first broke up I made a lot of mistakes and I acted exactly the way you are talking right now, not wanting to give up, saying you'll fight forever for her but in the end I probably ruined any chance of us getting back together by acting that way.
We haven't spoke to eachother in over a month now and the last time we talked, I admit we said some pretty nasty things to eachother, things that I wish I could apologize for and take back because most of it I didn't mean, I was just very upset and resentful. I miss her a ton but I realize that there probably isn't much chance of us ever being together, but stranger things have happened. And the worst part about it all is we had got together in the middle of May and had some really great make-up sex, I thought we were on our way back together and then she told me that it was all a mistake and blah blah, needless to say it set me back a good ways. I hope (although I'm not sure) that this real time away from me has made her miss me even if just a little bit, like I said it's been over a month with absolutely no contact and with my birthday rolling around soon we'll see how things go. I'm not here to dawg you out, I'm just here to let you know that it happens, and it hurts (a lot) and if I can do it after three years, you can definitley pull through after five months. You can probably search for the thread I created back in March when this happened, I started a similar thread and although I didn't get nearly the responce that you got from the board, I still read these posts and apply them to my situation. Good luck brother, stay strong.

Yes, he's going to get his heart broken. Yes, it will be hard. Yes, the next few weeks are going to be very tough on him. But ultimately, he'll be fine. Why? Because he's a Leaf fan. And that means he's uniquely accustomed to soul-crushing despair. Most people would consider having their heart ripped out, mushed into a tiny ball and fed back to them a life-altering experience. Leaf fans call it "Tuesday". He'll be fine.

Wow. I cannot wait to hear how this turns out. You could cut the tension with a knife. They should have break-ups on TV...not Jerry Springer style break-ups, but normal break-ups with a hidden camera. Man that would be great!
And for everyone giving him shit instead of advice: Shut the hell up. You know each and every one of us here has been down in the doldrums because of a girl at one point or another.

Maybe not to JohnnyG's extent...but are you saying you've gotten every girl you ever wanted? You've never had a relationship fall apart? It can be quite an experience. In fact, after the only time I got dumped, I would hear Britney Spears songs on tv and I'd actually think "Man, Britney really knows how I feel"...and then I'd wank it to her.

You are missing that the key difference here is that he posted about it on an internet message board, not that he's breaking up with someone.

She won't call because you left. She's got her own life to deal with and that's in New York. She's a sweet girl and I love her to pieces, but fuck her, man. You got to get on with your life. You've got to let go of the past Mikey, and when you do, the future is beautiful.

I once convinced a girl not to break up with me. She had gone to work at a summer camp, and had fallen for some guy she met there. I was devastated, and when she returned we had a long talk, and WooHoo we got back together again!! Then we got married.....Then she cheated on me before her wedding dress had gotten back from the cleaners....Then we filed for divorce about six months after we married. Let her go. |

well, we talked for about 2 and a half hours....and i was brutally honest with her....about how i felt, and about what she wanted to do...which was indeed to end the relationship.....I got her to tell me what her problems were, and what she wanted in "her" guy, and alot of it were things i had no idea about.....which brought us to what i think was the biggest problem...communication...we never talked about this stuff...relationship stuff, and neither really knew what the other wanted, or needed......
The stuff she wanted is not a big deal to me.....infact, some of it is me, which i havent really shown yet.......we stand right now on shakey ground, but are not broken up......I asked her for a chance to make it work with all this new found information, and she finally agreed to it......she maybe just saying yes to get out of here, but i dont think she would do that........We are taking it a week at a time.......I asked her out for Friday, and she said yes......while she doesnt think her feelings will change, she will give me a chance to fight for her, which is pretty much all i can ask for.......Chances are this delays the inevitable.......we are pretty much through, but I needed this chance to work things out sense its the 1st time a big problem has come up......I will be able to handle the potential breakup much better now that i know its possible, then today where it pretty much came from nowhere.......will it be easy, no, as im still crazy about her.........but as long as there's a chance, Ill sleep much better at night....thanks to all who gave advice, i took it all to heart, and hopefully, it will work out......

Thanks for the support, i did bring up to her that after a few weeks, if she sees something in me she llikes, at least she'll know im capable of being the man she wants, and with that information, if she still is not upto continuing the relationship, there is the chance that she will change her mind in the upcoming months.......she agreed to this, saying that was possible.....small thing, but it gives me hope....... I definatly hope whatever happens with your ex works out the best for you, wether you get back with her are not......these breakups hurt so much when you care.....I just cant wait for one that works, cuz its a feeling i never want to lose

I hate to break it to you man, but as someone who has had major codependancy and obsessive issues about girls in the past, I can tell you this right now.
It won't work out. Period. The ship's burning fast my friend and it won't be long until it's just ashes on the waves. You'll thrash about in the sea, trying to catch those last little black scraps and make them back into the love boat you once had. But it won't happen. The ashes will only disintegrate and you'll be left with only the phantasm of your memories, once golden and honey, now sepia and bittersweet. That is what will come to pass. Take it from one who knows. You should have let her go to begin with.
