Actually, it occurred to me while at the grocery store that hte last thing I want to do is lose the shovel right now. And since I seem to have a chance of doing that every time I vote for someone ...

I don't want to lose my shovel and have to go back up there. If I was sure tyke was a bad guy I'd risk it. But for now I'll hold on to it and hope we can bury Chief tomorrow.

It's not a perfect circle. It's more long than wide. A couple feet wide.

Is it perhaps six feet long?

something like that....perhaps...maybe...although the hole itself is not a perfect shape. Although the disturbed earth and dirt mounds, yes you could say they are about 6 feet long. Maybe 5 1/2

You hear a haunting melody. I was played earlier you think by someone. It's being played on the piano upstairs. Hardly the time and place for it. But it makes you sad and a bit on edge.

You hear a commotion for a bit. Then a lot of rucous, like a fist fight. What is going on up there? Is it the time for a barroom brawl?

It goes quiet for awhile. You think you hear something in the distance but are not sure. It is unnerving staring at the tree creature. Autumn takes the sure trusty, rusty shovel in his hands and begins to beat the tree creature Chief with it. It splats heartily. He slices at it and pieces sever. With all his might he continues slicing and beating until both Chief's remains and the monsters remains are little squished pieces. He is COVERED in gook. mauboy is too now from the gook-schrapnel.

The monster AND Chief? You are burying everything? Or just the monster part and leave chief skin.

mauboy watches autumn's crazed corpse attacks and dirt slinging and then hurries back up the stairs. Autumn remains in the cellar.

You better hope someone comes down there, CF. This will be the Road all over again. I might start singing 99 bottles of beer.

It's not so bad, not so bad. I'm fine being alone. Alone. Even if it's in a basement, I mean big deal. That lady possessed by a demon, she's already climbed out of the basement. And that other demon monster, well I hacked it up pretty good and covered it with dirt. So no problem, being alone in the basement with it. No problem. Goddamn that dripping is annoying.

Teh dripping! That's so annoying. Wait what was that? More dripping? Did something rustle? Ah it's probably nothing. Probably not a corpse coming to life. Or a tree demon.

You gaze into it and smile and say "I'm fine. I'm fine."
Your reflection smiles back. It then leans forward out of the mirror and grabs you by the shoulders.

"I don't think so," says the reflection smarmily, "We just chopped our friend Chief Rum up with a shovel. Does that sound FINE to you?"
Autumn stands there. His reflection moves his hands up his shoulders and clenches Autumn's neck and begins squeezing.

Autumn is being choked. He then looks around. There is no one here. He has his own hands on his own throat. The mirror is sitting there on the table. The reflection of Autumn looks normal in it.

I while away the hours by digging holes in the floor, looking for anything hidden, and preparing several more burial spots.

The dripping seems to get louder. And the creaking. The dropping and the creaking. You hear fistfights again upstairs and muffled voices again. They seem so far away. It is dark and spooky down here.

Anyway, my rendition is more a postmodern deconstruction of the original. What if all the characters are merely shards of one person's fractured ego, consumed by guilt for their atrocities in the great Holocaust? Will they find wholeness again? Or will it end with a 77 minute long rendition of throat singing cover of do-re-mi?

So for those who may come down in the cellar tonight -- I had thought I would need the knife or chainsaw to chop up Chief's corpse, but I did not. The shovel did the trick. I'm going back up to find out what's going on up there. If we catch some more bad guys I'll come back down with their corpses and try burying them, or bury them in the yard. Sorry if you came down to help with that, I thought I would need more than a shovel.
