Vázquez Swats 3 HR Against Portland
Sunday, July 4th, 1971: Bigger paychecks may be in the offing, if Ricardo Vázquez continues to hit like he did today against the Grocers. The New York third baseman crushed three into the stands at Legends Ballpark in a remarkable performance, propelling the Legends to a 10-2 win over Portland.

He tagged 4 hits in 4 at-bats, drove in 4 runs and scored 3 times.

Speaking to writers after the game, he said, "It was just one of those days when you got something to hit and did something with it." The Portland skipper agreed with him. "We made three mistakes and he made us pay each time."

R. Vázquez hit a solo-shot off M. Porter in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off M. Porter in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off B. O'Dwyer in the 5th and singled in the 7th.

Vázquez on the season is batting .292 with 34 home runs. His totals include 87 RBIs and 63 runs scored. He has played in 86 games.

Wiegel Pounds 3 HR Against Ticklers
Thursday, July 29th, 1971: Today was a special one for Gilbert Wiegel of the Mexico City Aztecs as he slammed three home runs against the Balzac Ticklers. But it didn't end on a happy note. The Ticklers outhit him and got the win by a score of 14-13.

Nevertheless the Mexico City left fielder had quite a game at Estadio Azteca as he collected 3 hits in 5 at-bats, drove in 6 and scored 3 runs.

"Lately, I been uppercutting the ball too much. I would hit it hard, but they just went sky high and stayed in the ballpark," he said to sportswriters after the game. "No big long outs for me in this game... I leveled out my swing and connected on the sweet spot three times. I knew they were gone the minute I hit 'em."

G. Wiegel flied out in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off D. Robinson in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off D. Robinson in the 6th, struck out in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off P. Gómez in the 8th.

To date this season Wiegel is hitting .287 with 19 home runs.

Sykes Hittin' on All Cylinders
Saturday, July 31st, 1971: "Some days everything falls in place and you have an almost perfect day."
Those were the comments from Mexico City catcher Bill Sykes today as his 4-5 day included the cycle, a baseball rarity.

"He sure was a wrecking ball today," said one teammate after the Aztecs tamed the Ticklers 4-3 at Estadio Azteca.

B. Sykes hit an RBI triple in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off C. Scott in the 4th, flied out in the 6th, hit an RBI double in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

Looking at his season stats, Sykes has compiled a .281 batting average and a .319 on-base percentage, while hitting 18 home runs and driving in 64 runs.

Balzac's Miyamoto Gets 2000th Hit
Tuesday, August 24th, 1971: What a day for Noriaki Miyamoto. The 34-year-old Balzac shortstop reached the 2000-hit mark today and the Ticklers whipped the London Bishops 9-7.

Miyamoto told reporters, "It's good to finally get it. The closer you get to 2000, the harder it is to get there. Now the pressure is off and I can go back to just playing ball."

He went 2 for 4 in the game to reach the milestone.

Over his career Miyamoto is batting .288 with 363 doubles, 78 triples, 169 home runs, 899 RBIs and scored 1000 runs in 1755 games.

Washington Stops Flores's Hit Streak
Friday, September 3rd, 1971: Ticklers right fielder Ricardo Flores was one of the hottest hitters in baseball, coming into today's game against Washington with a 29-game hitting streak. However, the Freedom put a chill in his bat, at least for today, and held him hitless in 3 at-bats during the Washington 5-4 triumph at The Tickle Trunk.

This year Flores is batting .355 with 23 home runs.

White Fires No-Hitter Against Balzac
Friday, September 10th, 1971: "This is one of the best moments of my life," Taylor White said. "You never think that's going to happen -- a no-hitter."

He made those comments after he held the Ticklers hitless in the London 7-0 victory at Bishops Ballpark.

"We simply couldn't get any wood on the ball," said the Balzac manager, when asked about his epic performance. "White was brilliant out there. He certainly had our number."

White was more humble about his historic feat and told BNN reporters that he was "just happy to get the win for the club."

He faced only 32 batters in the no-hit gem, struck out 7 and walked 5.

So far this year White has compiled a 14-12 record with a 3.64 ERA.

2000 Hits for Campbell
Monday, September 20th, 1971: New York's Rick Campbell got the standing ovation -- but the Cleveland Naps got the win.
It was a special day for him at Ballpark of Cleveland. A day when Campbell notched hit #2000 of his career. The fans went wild when he did. Even the Naps fans applauded.

The Legends left fielder went 2-4 in a losing cause as Cleveland spoiled the party with the 15-10 victory.
In the postgame interview, a downhearted Campbell told the media, "We lost -- It's not about individual accomplishments -- we lost."

When pressed further, he admitted his pride in reaching the 2000-hit mark, "A lot of great players never get there. I'm proud, but I would be happier if we had won."

Lifetime Campbell has played in 1770 games, batted .309 with 392 home runs and 2000 base hits.

Wow, strong start to finish. This might be my best team yet.

Lavergne is the definition of a slap hitter. He probably had 230 hits total!

That is including O'Reilly who had an ERA in the 2s or low 3s too right?

Yeah - 2.62 ERA - I feel so bad for O'Reilly. He's had an impressive career and I have yet to make the playoffs for him

Ya, thanks jerk! I'm pretty happy that I even had a winning record.

And I love Reyes, he is definitely the king of getting his balls on base.
