Wasteland 2 has turned into a much longer(and better) game than I ever could have hoped for. Then I have LOTR, then Evil Within if I'm up to it. Then, assuming reviews hold up like we expect, it's Civ time. Also, Wasteland 2 is everything I was hoping it would be and more. Did not think it could live to my lofty expectations, but they've been eclipsed. In case I haven't made that clear. |

You should be able to pre-load the game on Steam now in advance of its release on the 24th

Why is the game $50? Damn.. it's almost as much as a freaking console game. I could even see $39.99.. maybe. Think I'll hold off for now.. but I'm sure I'll give in once you knuckleheads chime in about the game.

Yeah, I'd pay $100 easily for Alpha Centauri with updated graphics. With the amount of time I played that game it would work out to like 2 cents per hour.

Yeah, I've had that discussion many times with certain folks. People will gladly shell out $10-$15 bucks for a movie ticket to entertain them for an hour and a half, but OMG$50GAME!!! Well yeah, if I play that game for 500 hours, $50 is a steal.

I'll wait for the inevitable update(s) which make the game great as opposed to decent (see civ 4/5)

I think it will be great but I'm going to wait for it to get cheap next year (<$20). I'm still enjoying Civ 5.

I also want to know how it runs. Civ 5 w/ expansions is sluggish enough on my machine. I doubt this game will be any better.

I'm interested to see how the AI handles the tech web. Everything is a bit more linear in Civ V compared to what is in this game. Sounds like they had to spend a lot of time rebuilding that for the new game.

Kind of a wacky review here. Pretty rough on the game, but gives it a 4/5 in the end. Think this is a situation where Civ 5 puts everything in the crosshairs because it's so good.

Reviews seem to be good but not great so I think I'll probably end up waiting for any expansions on this, revisit with Wasteland 2 and Divinity: Original Sin still on my plate and Bayonetta 2 coming tomorrow.

It looks like literally the only difference in requirements is the video card, from what I saw yesterday.
My brother gifted me a copy of it on Steam as an early Christmas present, and I immediately went to see if I could even play it tonight. CYRI says "no problem," and that surprised me enough to compare sysreqs between the two games. If you can play Civ V, there's a reasonably good chance you can handle BE. |

With FM15 Beta out AND Civ BE out tomorrow, I am a little disappointed that my girlfriend is flying home from England tomorrow.
Why can't I waste my weekend with awesome games instead of catching up with her? Siiiiiigh.

So far, no luck launching. Goes to an update window and just hangs there. Though in the game inventory it says 100% next to the game.
Anyone able to launch yet; or getting the same issue? |

Well, it loaded ad when I started the game the first time it made it through the scene and then locked up on the splash screen.
Second time, it locked my entire system up trying to start. About to try one more time and if no luck it will be shut down and get some sleep. Here's hoping... |

It took 5 minutes for me to unlock and launch. I spent close to two hours playing. I mostly like what I see so far, although I have a couple quibbles. I don't like how the aliens have some insanely powerful units available so early.

Attempt three led to a short time playing but the game locked up the first time I attacked an alien unit. Three lockups in three attempts. Never one with Civ 5. |

Well I decided to go ahead and try the game on my ancient computer-had no problems starting the game, but graphics are weird-pixellated a bit and what looks like barbecue stripes across it. Amazingly enough I was able to play a bit with no crashes, did have some bad luck though. My explorer travelled to an artifact site....and was killed by an alien unit right next door before I could get anything from it.

The consensus of the reviews I've read, and forum posts elsewhere seem to indicate that it's very much a Civ 5 game, with a bit of a right turn regarding the affinities & aliens that you may or may not like.
But, in general the consensus seems to be that if you're a long-time Civ fan, you'll like this, and you'll probably like it a whole lot more when the first expansion comes through. If you're a bit new to this kind of game (i.e. no one here) the learning curve is a bit high. And if you were expecting something in the lineage of SMAC, you're going to be disappointed. Much of the negative reaction seems to surround that last point. I feel for the devs, though, as they went to pains to say that while SMAC was an influence, this wasn't an updated SMAC. |
