Well I didn't hate the Yankees until I was born...so up until then I think it's fair game.

Does Babe Ruth count as a Yankee or as a Red Sox? Johnny Damon? Wade Boggs? Of course, given that the second two were definitely modern-era traitors, I'm not sure if I'll be drafting them or not...

Hey! How about this: start in 1901, but the initial draft is players who debuted after 1999. Then bring on the rookies backwards: 1999 in 1902 1998 in 1903 etc.

Or a random draft year...that way we dont know when the superstars are coming! But if put to a vote, I'd go cronological...I still want to realive history...I just think the 1st 20 years are going to be some slim pickings talent wise.

There was a version of the normalized Lahman database that had random debut years for all of the players. It was cool to play with the first time when you didn't know when the players were coming.

Lahman doesn't have Negro Leaguers. So we need to stick with GamboDB.
As for the start year, we can fudge that if we want. No biggie. Like 1920 instead of 1900. We should be able to start next week, as I think we have enough owners to get going with it.

I thought 1901 was a nice round number to start with. It will only be four months before we hit 1920 anyway...

I think that makes sense too. And from my testing, there's no talent distribution problems in the early years. All of the teams have enough players. The names aren't as familiar, but we'll be there before we know it anyway.

I think there are plenty of familiar names in the time period between 1901 - 1920. Some people just may not realize it until they start to play it! Larry Doyle, Tris Speaker, Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Cy Young, Honus Wagner, Nap Lajoie, etc. |

I like 1901, too. Why lop off 20% of history in a historical sim?

My thought was since we are playing with modern finances and such might as well set the stage as today. I've always wanted to play historical players in today's game. I'm totally fine with 1901 as well, but just was sharing my thought.

1901 it is. No contest, really. I agree with the logic of, why lop off 20% of the historical sim, because presumably, this league has an egg timer to it.
Sweet.

I kind of had picked the Beaneaters with the idea in mind of changing their names to the Braves in the year that it actually happened historically. I guess I won't be a stick in the mud on this one, but I had hoped to follow the Braves history somewhat! |

Atlanta is too small in 1901 to have a major league team. If you wanna stay south, Louisville has a historical claim to a major league club and had over 200k people in 1901. Here's a list of the largest cities each 20 years in the 20th century.

Are we doing an inaugural draft or random disbursement? I'd almost be in favor of a random start based on how long it would take to do a draft, but that's just me. If it is an inaugural draft do you have an idea of how we'll conduct it?
Thanks.

It'll be like FOOL's initial dispersal. Random draft to start, so you'll inherit your team as-is. OOTP doesn't have inaugural draft lists.

I'm pretty sure you can do an initial draft with historical leagues. Not that it matters, just saying.
Ah, draft list. Nevermind. It would be hard to conduct the draft without a list.

I'm cool with doing the initial player allotment the same way we've always done. Within 2 months, most of those players will be gone anyways.

No, it'll be a draft. It just won't be a draft where people will get to make lists, because the game doesn't support it. So I'll run the draft and then the teams will be what they are.

The Yankees are still available. Are you signing up? You need to tell DC: city (New York) team (Yankees) stadium (pick one)

Here is the initial league file for FOOL-H. (http://www.seojudo.com/baseball/FOOLH.lg.zip) You'll want to load online file once you've installed this one into your saved_games folder, because the online file has the logos and such alike. No photos, because 1) they take up space and 2) we can go online and see what the real life guys look like. I hope that doesn't kill the immersion for some of you, but it's just the sensible way to go with this. Here's the league lineup: AMERICAN LEAGUE Baltimore Orioles (spleen1015) Boston Red Sox (gstelmack) Chicago Whales (JetsIn06) Detroit Tigers (allpro10500) Louisville Colonels (Molholt) New York Yankees (jimbow37) Philadelphia Athletics (cgould43) Washington Senators (Tasan) NATONAL LEAGUE Boston Beaneaters (Alan T) Brooklyn Robins (fairly) Chicago Cubs (hyde4us11) Cincinnati Redlegs (bz) New York Giants (ekcut) Philadelphia Phillies (Eddie K) Pittsburgh Pirates (cmldude) St. Louis Cardinals (Montreal GM) Here's the schedule: Quote:

Outstanding DC! Glad to see this going!
The correct file to download looks like: http://www.seojudo.com/baseball/FOOLH.lg.tar.gz Edit: And no big deal about the photos for me. Would prefer smaller files without them myself. One thing we need though DC is for you to provide us the league download information to enter in our FTP options (if we are downloading via HTTP as I assume?) That is not included in the league file if you are downloading via HTTP. We just need the following settings: League File name League File URL Last edited by Alan T : 07-26-2009 at 03:46 PM. |

The leaderboards have historical leaders on them....do we want to keep it like that or delete the historicals so it shows FOOL only? i would vote for FOOL only leaders.

It's a vestige of the GamboDB, sadly. I don't know how to get rid of it, but one would suspect those records would be gone soon enough anyway. I think it's just one of the flaws of playing historically with a DB, but without Gambo, we don't get Negro Leaguers integrated in. |
