The more I think about it, the more excited I get about this draft. The possibilities are endless, and I think the voting will more varied than maybe any other draft we've had so far.
I'm gonna really start making a private list for each category tomorrow after work. I've already got like...3 or so picks that I definitely am afraid will be taken before I get to take a stab at it (pun intended).

I'm sure we all will. I think the participants (and of course, the peanut gallery) should make a pact that we viciously ridicule picks that we think are garbage. It will give this draft a lot more camaraderie if we all know that we're fair game, and don't take anything personally.

Without the Youtube clip I'd call that Bonnie and Clyde selection terrible. I can't be the only one that had NO idea what it was.
But with the clip - that's pretty impressive.

Son of a bitch.. and just like that, my #1 pick and my backup pick are gone. Let me evaluate my options for a second.

I'm taking a look at my list, and outside of the suicides I just don't have a clear front-runner (my first thought when I saw this draft was Full Metal Jacket). I'm going to take a gamble that some of my better picks will still be around later on and go with what is just one of the sweetest and most unexpected death scenes in a movie.
1.7 Best Gunshot Death - Marvin, Pulp Fiction

ok. I don't know how this happened. But it seems clear what should be the #1 pick. I was shocked it got to me. now there have been some good picks before me but my choice is pretty clear...

Yup. I know that that is considered to be a major scene/event in TV - but it's so far removed from my generation that it has little impact on me - I think that could hurt with the voters.

Since the show didn't have huge viewership this may end up a way too early or WTF pick, but whatever, this was the single biggest "HOLY SHIT DID THAT JUST HAPPEN" moment I've ever had watching a television show:
1.9 - Best Explosion Death[TV or Movie] - Shane drops a grenade in Lem's car - The Shield I couldn't find a shorter clip, the actual death is a bit after the 5 minute mark. |

I put the Psycho shower scene as 1 and Pyle as 2. I think Radii's picj was way to early, he probably could have let that one drop. He may get credit from Shield viewers but will get zero from non shield viewers. |

Probably so, my philosophy in this one is different than in any other draft I've been in. Except for a select *very* few picks my feeling is that what goes 1st in a category vs what goes 10th in a category will probably run pretty close together and it's just going to be what shows/movies voters happen to like the best that decides it. Popularity decides things in a lot of drafts but I see that being the case more here than usual. So I'm just taking my favorites and hoping to hit a nerve here or there with a voter or two. I should note that this strategy always bombs. I'm doomed |

Meh, Marvin is a great pick. The most memorable death and one of the most memorable scenes from a movie like Pulp Fiction is as worthy of a pretty high pick as anything else IMO. |

Thanks for the reassuring comments. As soon as I signed up for this draft that scene was the first one that came to mind. In fact out of pure excitement of it still being available with only 1 pick to go, I've been whistling the Godfather theme all morning here at work.

Yeah, have to think Marvin would have been available much later (and if not, there would be many other for that category). This draft is interesting compared to others as there are SO MANY choices, but there are definitely some that are first round quality that have been picked (Godfather, Pyscho, Pyle) and some that are not. Will be interesting if at the end that comes into it at all or not.

Sonny's death was the first one that came to mind for me. I thought it would be #1 overall (although Psycho is an excellent choice, too).

I have to say, though I've never seen Psycho I know that scene alone is one of the most memorable scenes cinema history. The best pick of the draft so far is the one from Full Metal Jacket. That completely slipped my mind, but I would have a very hard time coming up with a better suicide. Hell of a job DeTox...racist bastard.

i'm not sure if i have seen more than 3 horror movies in my life. I picked Psycho more out of ignorance than anything else. but thanks for the good words.
great picks so far. sonny and mash were the 2 of the 3 other great picks out there. i know the other one will be picked soon. i was thinking the marvin pick would have been a great comedy pick. the whole scene is classic dark comedy. if one has not seen godfather and bonnie and clyde i wonder how they will judge the 2 scenes? very alike just a clarification. is the new hero death category a scene where the hero dies or where the hero kills the bad guy? or does it matter? |

LS talked to me about this briefly actually. The category specifically says "death IN a comedy" so we decided it wouldn't really apply since it was a comedic death in a drama.

2.1 - Best Melee Death - Obi Wan Kenobi death by LIGHTSABER!
I was geeked up when I saw the melee category. This was the first thing to pop into my head. I don't know how this will rank with everyone else, but I love it. |

I thought Lecter would go #1. There are a lot of choices for most categories, but "Serial Killer" seems to scream out Hannibal Lecter, and I can't think of another serial killer that comes close to Lecter as the clear #1 for the category.
But I am probably forgetting a few and will most likely go "Oh, of course!" after someone else's pick. |

Hannibal was a great pick...well done. I thought of Obi-Wan actually but kept telling myself there must be better melee deaths out there somewhere. Being a Star Wars nut though, I have to enjoy at least seeing it on here
