Now if I could just mine an Amber Gem or 3 ... currently 43,482 mining experience / Level 21 and I have never seen a single Amber yet.

Possibly foolish question but ... could this be because I've mined only on Remer Island? Is amber non-existent on Remer maybe?

Magic is the hardest skill in the game to raise because gems are so rare and in high demand. This is one of the times where being in a clan is useful, because you only need one person to cast the enchantments you need since anyone can make use of the enchantments. So for example, having 10 people with magic lvl 4 can all cast a -2 second travel spell, but one person with lvl 12 has 3-4 additional spells they can cast (and they can pass the enchanted items to anyone to use).

That said, ambers are the most common gem to find while mining...only problem is it can sometimes take a while to find ANY gem while mining. I would wager you'd find one before you hit lvl 25 mining though.

It's a requisite not to have your IQ drop for sure. Can't believe I used to complain about Malavita chat...

I can't hang out in any public chat other than Calamari. We've done a fairly good job of keeping that from getting out of hand. Even the RGLC capo channel is too silly.

These new codes in Syrnia are awful. I cant read them of the first try every, 50/50 on the 2nd try.

Although, all 3 of my steel pickaxes are broken now so, if you have a spare, I'd appreciate a couple.

I haven't managed to raise my fighting skill worth a darn. Never quite developed the patience for it.

Out of curiosity, what is amber gem? Is that another name for either avril or beryl or is it an entirely different gem? If you need a specific gem, let me know. I can check at the house to see if I have one.

An amber is indeed a specific gem.
You should be able to see all of them at
http://syrnia.com/index.m2h?page=manual&m=mining

Amber is the most common gem (according to the manual at least), occuring on 7/33 gem finds.
It looks like this:

It's used for magic spells at:
Level 1 (-1 Travel Time)
Level 10 (-3 Travel Time, with Moonstone)
Level 15 (-4 Travel Time, with Avril)
Level 20 (Penteza Teleport Orb, with Spar)

I was wondering how my playing time had changed since I started about six months ago.

On 11/6/05 -- averaged 7 hrs 24 mins per day
On 2/20/06 -- averaged 6 hrs 16 mins per day
On 4/14/06 -- averaged 6 hrs 30 mins per day

Considering that there's been nearly three full weeks that I've been AFK from the computer (two WDW trips + several 1-3 trips day elsewhere), that's pretty consistent IMO. Says something about the run-in-the-background friendliness of the game I think.

IMO, the "challenge" is almost entirely in perservering.

The only way to die via another player is to venture into "The Outlands" (which I don't do), that's the only place where you can be killed by another player. Otherwise, avoiding death by NPC is pretty simple -- don't fight monsters too large for your ability level and don't fail to pay attention & forget to replenish your health via stored food while fighting lower level monsters.

Not a whole lot in the way of strategy involved (hardly any really), just fire up the game, respond to the bot checks every 10-15 minutes & let the game do the rest.

It'll be interesting (and somewhat depressing I imagine) to see how far I fall over the next couple of weeks when I'm AFK for a trip to Orlando/WDW starting on Thursday and then through the confusion of moving during the 2-3 weeks after that. My goal was to crack the Top 100 in Total Skill before the trip but that seems highly unlikey now and obviously even if I did it would be very short lived.

Thanks. Once you get to steel it seems to pick up a little bit ... at least until the increased XP needed between levels starts getting rougher.

I do occasionally wonder how many other people have reached 300+ levels without ever completing a single trade with another player.
