I managed to sneak to the track today after all, and I got down three tickets totaling $60. Used the 1,2, and the 6 in the 4th race, in various combinations.

Now I'm heading to my wet basement, but will try to check in. *sigh*

Sweet, 2 was my key horse there, I used him for all three tickets. Nice start.

Heh, turns out the note I got from my friend (and investor) about the #6 horse in the 4th race was just a supposedly witty observation about him being pulled up by Desormeaux in a previous race. And not...like.. what one might usually comment on when building a pick six ticket like WHAT HORSE DO YOU FUCKIONG LIKE DUMBASS.

Ah, well. At least we're still alive, but I dumped a number of horses later on in order to get that #6 in there. *sigh*

Yeah, I have no idea why the jockey would let that horse go out there by 6 lengths in 22.5. That was just insane for a mile race.

Yeah, nice pick. Care to elaborate on why you picked that horse? I threw him out immediately.

Unfortunately, since that was a pretty open race, I'd be shocked if he wasn't on a decent number of the pick 6 tickets. So he's probably not a true $21 horse for pick 6 purposes.

Edit: To elaborate here - when I look at him, I see a horse coming off of 2 races at the same level (though different tracks - my lack of knowledge of east coast racing could be a problem here as it's possible the 35k claimers at Aquaduct and Gulfstream are tougher than Belmont), neither of which were too impressive. And I couldn't see the extra 1/16 helping him at all.

All the winning tickets are taking home ~$103k. Not too bad, but not great for a $4.4m pool. It looks like other than the lynchjm24 dream ticket, we all ended up hitting 4/6.

I didn't get a chance to post picks (nor did I get a chance to play tickets) -- and this is a bit of a redboard because of that -- but I included Youbethecan on my "ticket" because he had the best back figs (by my numbers) of any horse in the race except for the 13 who didn't draw in. That coupled with good Drugtrow/Velasquez stats for the turf made it a must include for me. Plus I thought it was a pretty contentious race. 9-1 seemed to be a gift as well.

As an aside I loved My Dinah as some others did here as well. My single. But there was no way I would have had Willsboro Point in the 6th unless I did an "All".

There was nothing all that scientific about the way I approached that race. I basically worked backwards and first eliminated all the horses that had no chance to win. These nonwinners of 2 lifetime can be littered with 1 for 25 horses or horses that specialize in running well but always finishing second. In this event that was half the field.

I couldn't pick a clear winner here so I just used my 4 contenders. He was a contender based on the trainer and I liked the works and he was lightly raced ie hadn't proven to be totally hopeless yet. Also last fall he ran very well. Obviously they straightened him out legally or illegally.

As far as the next race I guess the claim and move to a new trainer paid off. Didn't see the race but I'd assume the 6 got to the front and stayed there.

FYI, I think Belmont has a 900K carryover from today...may be reviving this thread/idea.
