WEEK 12
The Game:
The Golden Eagles took the opening kickoff and held the ball for 5:23, taking 11 plays to put a 3-pointer on the scoreboard from 39 yards out. The Frogs did not get anything positive until mid way through the 2nd quarter, driving a modest 48 yards for a Td, capped by FB Kelvin Pattons' 5 yard run. Following a USM punt, QB Ike Palmer threw his only interception of the game, but Southern Miss could not capitalize, and punted back to the Frogs. A 3-play, 83 yard drive, highlighted by a 60 yard RB Graham Elliot run, was capped off by Elliot, from 13 yards out, for a 14-3 halftime lead for the Toads. The 3rd quarter was incredibly boring as punts were the norm on every drive, save another missed FG by K Vincent Boo. Following a Golden Eagle 4th quarter field goal to close the gap to 14-6, TCU went on an 85 yard drive ending with a 22 yard Palmer to WR Ellis Twisp TD pass, sealing the game and keeping TCU's hope for a shot at the national title alive. Not a great performance, but as of late, the Frogs seem to do what it takes to win, and not much more. Final Score: TCU 21 Southern Miss 6 Players of the Week: Congratulations RB Graham Elliot 33 carries for 217 Yds, 1 Td QB Ike Palmer 15 of 23 for 183 Yds, 1 Td, 1 Int WR Ellis Twisp 6 receptions for 99 Yds, 1 Td Injuries were confined to: TE John Guthrie OUT-15 Torn Knee Ligament Singleton RECOVERED Year to Date:
Recruiting: Two more future Horned Frogs signed on the dotted line this week, including a much needed OLB in Everett Farley, a good TX boy, and another CB. Both are top 20 in the nation at their positions. We now have 3 scholarships left, but not really 3 players worth a scholarship. We will see what happens, but we may just save 1 or 2 for a rainy day (or year). In The Fold:

Butter_of_69, thanks for reading. If C-USA was better, we would be #2, but our strength of schedule is 4 points more than UCLA, and the good teams we scheduled for preseason did not end up so hot. Coach Purple has his fingers crossed...and his toes...and his nuts, too, if that is possible.

WEEK 13
The Game:
The second half was more of the same as the Frogs methodically clobbered Louisville in all areas, except punting, at which both teams sucked. "A great way to end the regular season," said Coach Purple. "We did all we could to stake a claim as the best team in the land. It is out of our hands, now." Final Score: TCU 45 Loiusville 14 Players of the Week: Congratulations RB Graham Elliot 37 carries for 260 Yds, 4 Tds QB Ike Palmer 13 of 21 for 212 Yds, 1 Td, 0 Int C Jimmy Bernstein 10-12 Block, 1 SkA Injuries were confined to: none Year to Date:
Recruiting: Noone signed on the dotted line, which isn't actually dotted, but solid. We are still waiting on a decision from B.J. Clancy, #12 DT from TX, who is the only remaining visitor still. In The Fold:

Son-of-a-BITCH
We are #4 in the nation. We have to bump over 2 teams to be in the national title game. Only one of the teams has a regular season game left. Strength of schedule has probably done in the Horned Frogs.

WEEK 14
The Game: none. Now we wait to see how good a bowl game we will be invited to. Injuries were confined to: no recoveries. Still on the list are: TE John Guthrie OUT-13 Torn Knee Ligament OLB Gino Sanford PROBABLE-1 Hyperextended Elbow WR Karl Childers DOUBTFUL-8 Hip Pointer Year to Date: end regular season. Not only were we favored in every game, but we covered the spread every week. You could have gotten rich if you had wagered on the Frogs every week.
Recruiting: Clancy signed elsewhere, so there are no more prospects to review or wait for. We will take 3 walk-ons to fill out our recruiting class and hope next year is a better one, which is what we said last year. Of course, 13 recruits who are all top 20 at their positions is not bad, but we needed more help with the graduation of many starters after this year. C'est la vie! In The Fold:
Players of interest signing elsewhere:[list][*] B.J. Clancy, #12 DT from TX, signed with Rice.

Title Hopes Dashed
TCU failed to vault any of the teams higher ranked than they and remained #4 in the nation. Coach Purple and the Horned Frog family assume a shot at the national title is gone. "Even though we have not lost this season, there are 2 other teams who have also gone undefeated. We did what we could to procure a spot in the BCS Championship, but you cannot argue, based on strength of schedule. It isn't our fault that our opponents were not very good this year. C-USA will rise, and we plan to be in the thick of that rise and benefit when it occurs."

Dang. Sorry, dude. At least you can take some solace in the fact that TCU claimed their second CUSA title in a row in my shadow world, though for the second year in a row they got plowed by BC in the Queen City Bowl and inexplicably lost the Skillet to SMU (a 2-9 SMU team at that, whose only other win was 1-11 Tulsa...go figure). At least you get to cash in on a BCS bid as a Top 4 BCS ranking is pretty much a guarantee of one. You drop to five, though, and things get dicey. Happened to Maryland in my game where they finished fifth but ACC, Big East, and Big XII bid winners all finished behind them and both ND and Miami were ahead at #3 and #4. That had to suck (but only so much, since we're talking about a computer program... ).

Wolfpack, thanks again for stopping by and taking the time to post. I appreciate the visit.
HornedFrog Purple would tell you, even a 10-1 season is a failure if the one loss is to SMU. I, on the other hand, don't mind losing to SMU as long as the season is great overall. BTW, if you look here relatively soon, or anyone else for that matter, answer this if you can: Bowls have a predetermined payout, of course, but I was wondering if you ALSO get $$$ based on your TV for the bowl game. That is, is it a 'double' payday, or is the TV money figured in? I just don't know if Jim thought of that or not.

I'm not sure. I would think that TV money is "on top" of the bowl money, since the determinant of which TV the bowl appears on is determined by the juicyness of the matchup, similar to how it's done during the regular season. A "TV1" game should pay more than a "TV5" game, but since the pairings are not determined until the regular season's conclusion, there's no way to know which matchup is a five-star affair and which one is a blowout before the teams even leave their hotel rooms.
Judging by the looks of things based on your last standings, is it possible that you wind up with Memphis in the 4-7 BCS Bowl? I see that 5 of the 6 auto bids (assuming they bear relation to conference standings at all) are ranked 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6, with the SEC champ somewhere in the 12-15 range (pairing them with the #6 team). You're #4 and Memphis is the second-highest rated non-BCS conference champion team at #7, giving them the other at-large. Wonder if the program takes into account conference affiliation and avoids in-conference pairings except in the title game. |

I have no idea, but I need all the revenue I can get because my weekly travel budget hasn't increased even $100 since 2002 and I assume it is tied to your revenue stream, so more TV money will hopefully increase the travel fund.
I'll find out very shortly who goes where.

Ooh...this could be interesting. If UCLA knocks off the Cowboys, it leaves the winner of your game versus Indiana as the only unbeaten standing, though it'll mean a bridesmaid finish as #2, probably. A brief guesstimate of relative power conference strength based on the number of teams each has in the Top 25 seems to show that UCLA would pick up a little more schedule strength by beating Oklahoma State than you would by beating Indiana, thus probably preserving their narrow margin. This is assuming that the national title is awarded on the basis of the BCS poll, though. From the look of things, you'd likely pick up #1 for both voter polls if the Cowboys lose. A little consolation, anyway. Good luck.

2007 Orange Bowl
The Game
TCU won the toss and elected to receive. WR Mark Huntley caught the kick at the 13 and returned it 34 yards to the TXCH47. A great start, and RB Graham Elliot sent a message to the Hoosiers, running up the middle 3 times for 14 yards. Following a false start penalty, QB Ike Palmer and WR Ellis Twisp connected on a 30 yard strike to the Indiana 14. Two plays later, Palmer hit Twisp for a touchdown, and TCU was ridin' high, 7-0. Following the kickoff, Indiana held the ball for 10 plays and moved to the TCU 35. However, on a 4th and 3, LB Marvin Washington stuffed Hoosier RB Earnest Kobdish for a 3 yard loss, and the Frogs regained possession. Unfortunately, several plays later, Elliot fumbled at the Indiana 47 and the ball was recovered by the Hoosiers. Three plays later, they punted back to TCU. After an exchange of punts, TCU found itself with a 1st and 20 on their 10 yard line. On 2nd down, Elliot ran around left end for 40 yards to midfield. Palmer then hit WR Karl Childers, playing in great pain, for 33 yards to the Indiana 17, but the drive stalled and K Vincent Boo was true from 29 yards for a 10-0 Frog lead. Indiana went 3 and punt again and TCU took over at their 49. It took 10 semi-boring plays, none over 14 yards, but Elliot finally burst into the endzone from the 1 to give the Frogs another score. Boo missed another field goal with 10 seconds left in the half, leaving the score 17-0 as the teams went to the locker room. The 2nd half started with Indiana taking possession and failing to mount an offense once more and punting to the Toads, who took over on their 13 yard line. On first down, Palmer completed a pass to TE Gary Boone for 19 yards, which would end up the longest play on a 17 play drive consuming an unbelievable 9:39 that resulted in a Boo 28 yard field goal. 20-0, TCU. After several more punts, including the last of 8 consecutive drives by the Hoosiers ending in a punt, the Frogs took over at their 48. Several plays later, Palmer hit WR Childers for a 16 yard touchdown making the score 27-0. An excellent kickoff return by CB Donnie King left the Hoosiers in great field position for once in the game at their 49. Indiana had the ball for 9 plays but could only manage the TCU 12 yard line before deciding to get the goose egg off their scoreboard and kicking a field goal to pull the score to 27-3, Frogs. TCU got the ball at the 20 following a touchback on the kickoff with 5:53 left to close out their perfect season, and that's just what they did, running out the whole rest of the game in 12 plays and ending on Indiana's 12 yard line. The close of Graham Elliots' marvelous career included 9 runs on the final drive as he refused to come to the sideline for the last time until the gun was fired (many french in attendance at the Orange Bowl were confused and surrendered to authorities when they heard the gun signal the end of the game). Elliot was named MVP and awarded an astounding 17 stokes for his effort. Coach Purple, tears in his eyes, said "An era has ended today. You cannot replace these senior Frogs we are losing. These guys were 40-8 in the last 4 seasons. I hope TCU meant as much to them as they have meant to TCU." Now, if Oklahoma State will just lose their bowl, we will be the only undefeated team in the nation. Final Score: TCU 27 Indiana 3 Players of the Week: Congratulations RB Graham Elliot- 45 carries for 199 Yds, 1 Td WR Ellis Twisp- 5 receptions for 113 Yds, 1 Td QB Ike Palmer- 16 of 22 for 255 Yds, 2 Tds, 0 Int FB Kelvin Patton- 2 carries for 17 Yds, 0 Td Injuries were confined to: None to impact next season Year to Date:end regular season

Recruiting Final: 2007
This class shows the good and the bad, a microcosm of what can go well, and what can go poorly, all at once. We could not even get 16 recruits to come to Ft. Worth, at least not of the quality necessary to sustain a top 20 program. With a top 3 Academic rating and a prestige of 85, one would hope more recruits would be interested. However, that was not the case, and this will come to haunt the Frogs in a few years when the talent, especially the back-ups, are not where they need to be. With that said, the 13 players brought in, walk-ons notwithstanding, are all in the top 20 at their positions. Most are of good to passing size already, except for Farley and Wilson. Naturally, all will be red-shirted, if at all possible, so they will have a year to grow and learn. With the number of high-level graduating seniors in the class of 2007, this class will decide whether TCU stays in the top 20, or falls into the pack of C-USA also-rans.

This is the end of the TCU Dynasty, at least for now. Since HornsManiac says people hate when dynasties just shut down with no warning or reason, I thought I would let those that read this know.
My dad has cancer and is anywhere from weeks to months left. He has lost 100 pounds and stupid-ass doctors say that he is not too sick to be on his own so medicare will not spring for any home health aide to come look out for him, so it falls to my siblings and myself to deal with him. Hopefully, when this gets straightened out, one way or another, I will come back to it. Thanks for reading.
