Seems like Clegane is the way to go for now. I have sent a message to Stannis and we have the emissary going to the Starks. Varys has let me know that I will get a reply from him later.

Brienne, let Ser Gregor know his services can be put to good use at Storm's End. If he transfers his gold we'll know this as a sign. If not, maybe he is worth a capture (only if the risk is minimal to you, I prefer not to risk anyone at this point).

Loras, I wish I had an idea of where to go with Cersei and trust your judgement -- surely she might see that the Lannisters may not be the best place to hang her hat.

My only concern about raiding is deciding who to piss off. I get that Lannister is the target that comes to mind. Clegane's Keep and Fairhaven are poor, Crakehall OK, I guess Harrenhal would be best -- I don't think Tywin is going to leave Casterly Rock open.

Actually, I suspect they are going to possibly get a few raids tonight. How many men would we want to commit and who wants to do it? I want plausible deniablilty....

I get that and do not see a long-term deal available there. I would though like to preserve some semblance of a balance of power early -- a quick Lannister destruction may benefit the Starks more than the rest of us. A slower attrition might be preferable.

Noticed that Julio just posted in the Lannister thread. Wonder if he is reporting fontesian's IM.

I suspect we are not going to get any firm agreements at this point from anyone -- frankly if we did I would find that pretty shady. All the houses are going to be feeling each other out this first day or two.

So let's assume Lannister loses Clegane today. Best to wipe them out as quickly as possible or do we want to try and weaken someone else? Curious as to people's thoughts there.

Reply from Julio. He'll post "This is bollocks" in the thread before 9:30 EST if he intends to join us and will then transfer his money privately. He's probably waiting to see if his king intends to keep him anyway or if he gets a better offer.

I could go after him just after he flees, and if we knew how many men he has we would know exactly how many men to send with me. Alternatively, if he has a lot of men we can be pretty well assured that he won't be captured.

He won't give the exact number but says he could have hired twice as many with the number in money that we know of. Said he is down for joining us. Says that his talent is making the ones that attack him much worse in battle.

I'm not sure what to do with the Lannisters. Not worrying about an attack from them would be nice, but I'd rather not go down with that ship.

He sent 5,000 gold. That would have been prior to fleeing, I got that message at 6:11 Pacific.

Lord Tywin and his faction have been discussing the prospect of an alliance with us for much of the day. He has the support of "King" Joffrey in proposing this alliance, with a stated end goal of reducing the number of contenders from four to two.

He wanted to know what we considered our road to victory. I have no intention of divulging that.

The key points of what I told him was:

In theory I have no objection to a showdown with the two of us standing at the end.

My bannermen (and women, Lady Brienne) are not convinced that the Lannisters are trustworthy allies and will need persuading.

That I feel the Starks are currently the most powerful house, and acknowledged that we have had an emissary there but I have not heard back.

That he could probably get many to agree that Melisandre is a threat tomorrow.

Thoughts? I believe I have unlimited PM with him at the moment so if you guys think I should clarify or ask something let me know.

He gave us 5000. Mercenaries cost 5000 and provide 5000 men. So he should have 2500.

I have a reply from Lord Tywin. His thoughts followed by my initial reaction:

He believes even with the loss of Clegane he has the greatest number of troops. Possible.

He believes the Lannisters hold a disproportionate sway with the neutral characters though he cannot be certain of that at this time. Given they are based in Kings Landing, possible.

He can bring votes to the table to protect our interests. Not as many as other houses, and especially not as many as us if we get Clegane.

Regarding the Stark/Stannis threat: He also believes Melisandre can be put on the line tomorrow and believes that Stannis would shield her. He then believes he can paint House Stark as the main threat for Day 3. Yes on the first, maybe on the second point.

He would remind my bannermen that this will be won by good play, not by the narrative. He asks you to consider their likely abilities and strategic acumen without the name "Lannister". I do not presume to comment on this other to note ooc that hoops is about as respected as anyone in this community and can have sway.

He says that we are his first approach and that if we don't want to ally he can easily find another. I call bullshit on that.....and this is where I confess to you my bannermen that I used my own PM today to approach Lord Tywin on the principle that after playing Diplomacy for years I have learned to always talk to your enemy, for he may not always be.

This is where we stand. I plan to acknowledge his message and that I await council from my trusted bannermen before detailing further.

I don't think we raided. You should send me out to capture Julio if you think he's in danger (though I think his comments in the thread make an attempt to capture him less likely.) Otherwise, send me on a raid.

We really need to talk to Darth and ask him about his negotiations with the Starks before deciding on the Lannister question. My instict is to continue "kicking the Lannisters while they are down."

My question to you guys is this -- are you advising that we should reject the Lannister offers without knowing for sure what is going on with the Stark negotiations?

Because it strikes me that could backfire on us if the Stark thing doesn't come through. Darth did send me a PM this morning but there was nothing in it that said we had a firm agreement with Stark, though he was going to exchange a couple more letters before returning. I did inform him of the Lannister emissary so he would be aware of that situation.

As far as the raid goes I don't think there was ever a decision but when I saw it had happened I thought someone might have gone for it.

I did think Brienne was going to try and capture Clegane. If he hasn't been caught by now I think we can probably wait the day and have him arrive then.
