1908 Season - Part 3
Hutt continues to emerge as a more than adequate compliment to Jestor, playing a vital role in Milwaukee's first ever NL Pennant. Hutt played all three infield positions and fielded a solid .968 at his primary spot of second base, also finishing second in the NL in extra base hits, HR and RBI. Notes:
Justice elevates his game to level never before seen among our players, becoming the first of the group to top the .400 market, easily leading the PCL in batting as the Rainiers, who still only finished 4th in the PCL despite his heroics. He also led the PCL in walks, total bases and runs, coming in 2nd in homers and he was at his best in the heat of the pennant race, when it counts. Notes:
Omark continues to do what he does best, vandalize the base paths and hold down the hot corner with aplomb, though his hitting does continue to gradually improve, as he records a career high OBP of .320 for the 3B Browns. He does miss out on his second gold glove award, which baffles the area sports writers, who all scream east coast bias. Notes:
Lester contunues to try and find his niche, appearing in just 2 games for the Niagras, but he does manage his first professional win and hopes to have a breakout season in 1909, a sentiment not shared by his employers near the canadian border as they send him packing after the season. Notes:
We welcome the following 4 players to the fold for 1909 Fox McCloud - RF Minneapolis, Minnesota DJ Thomas - C Provo Utah and our first brother duo Pitcher Joe Dawkins and CF Jack Dawkins, both from Harrisburg, PA |

Man, Lester is having a very hard time. Luckily, he is only 20 years old, so hopefully he has better days ahead of him.

1909 Season - Part 1
Jason continues to quietly put together a solid career for the Cubbies, who continue to improve finishing 80-74, 6 games out and in 5th place in one of the most hotly contested pennant races to date. Friday is the epitome of a hardnosed, blue collar player and earns his 3rd straight All-Star appearance. Notes:
The eversteady Ginsberg continues to make a nice career for himself in the Eastern League where he now earns the princely sum of $4,130 per season, likely a good reason he has not sought the greener pastures of the Major Leagues. The Shamrocks win yet another EL pennant, sharing the honors with Buffalo, who also finishes 73-47. Notes:
'Irish Fire' is the greatest strikeout pitcher in the history of Baseball as he again eclipses his modern day record, fanning 425 in 347 innings to remain as potent as ever despite the Browns falling from 3rd to 6th at 77-77. O'Rourke also broke his own record for K's per 9 innings fanning 11.03 per. At this pace, if his arm does not fall off, O'Rourke will retire as the all-time leader in both strikeouts and walks. Notes:
Jestor threatens to become our first Major Leaguer to top the .400 mark and sits right at .400 as late as 09/11/09, but cannot maintain the pace. Milwaukee follows up on their first pennant with a heartbreaking 2nd place finish to the New York Giants, finishing a game off the pace at 85-69. Notes:

1909 Season - Part 2
Guess whos coming to dinner with Jestor and Hutt? Yes Gale leaves the Pacific Coast League in his wake after a subpar season with the Seals and promptly turns Milwaukee on it's ear, hitting a career high .344. Hitting 5th in the lineup behind Jestor and Hutt, Gale becomes a fast favorite in his first major league season and the Brewers now have a nucleus in place that can carry them for years to come. Notes:
As expected Nielsen misses the entire 1909 season recovering from his torn ulnar collateral ligament and the Alleghenys slip to 4th place in the standings, their worst finish in franchise history, though they have still never had a losing season. Nielsen appears on track for a full recovery for 1910. Notes:
Shepard continues to be a steady player for the Bees, who finish 3rd in the PCL at 74-66 behind the Seattle Rainiers. Despite only being a career .270 hitter, Shepard has a remarkable eye and leads the PCL in both walks (102) and OBP (.399) which is duly appreciated by those that hit behind him, mainly Home Run Baker. Notes:
Bafou once again does Canada proud as he rebounds from a atrocious year in 1908 to once again provide a decent stick to the Hilldale nine, who finish a disappointing 52-68 and in 7th place despite having Fred Merkle, Ken Williams and Steve Yerkes alongside Jawouk in the lineup. Notes:

1909 Season - Part 3
Hutt slumps just a bit for the 2nd place Brewers and continues to have trouble making contact, leading the NL in strikeouts with an eye popping 153. With those numbers one would think every at bat was against O'Rourke. If Hutt can cut down on the whiffs, he will bolster an already potent Milwaukee offense and help 24 game winner Ed Walsh add even more wins to his total. Notes:
Big Frank helped lead Seattle to their first ever PCL pennant as the Rainiers finished 84-56, 6 games up on Vernon. Unfortunately chronic back pain limited him to just 99 games, but the sweet swing was still there as he narrowly missed his second .400 season. At the age of 23 Justice has decided to explore opportunites outside of Seattle and hopes to land on a Major League roster in 1910. Notes:
The Staten Island flash continues to run wild in 1909 once again leading the league in steals and accumulating a league high 117 walks as well, giving him an OPB of .394. His heroics help the 4th place Browns lead the NL in steals as a team with 207, but they also only manage to swat 13 home runs as a team! Notes:
Lester found Midland more to his liking as he logged a career high 49.1 innings in his third pro season, but still does not have a permanent role as started 4 games for the Dusters and appeared in relief in 8. Midland finished 3rd in the Texas League at 69-51, just 3 games back of Sweetwater, as Wood looks toward a more prominent role in 1910. Notes:

1909 Season - Part 4
Time for the newcomers
Young Joe becomes one of two new players to get their start in the Cape Cod League, marking the first time any of our guys have played in the small independant circuit. Though given limited opportunites, Joe did show well for such a young pitcher and will undoubtedly leave the CCL for greener pastures in the coming seasons. Notes:
Joe's older brother Jack had signficantly more good fortune in his first year as a pro, earning a regular spot in the outfield for the Buffalo Niagra's who finished tied with Lowell for the EL pennant. He also recorded one painful honor, leading the EL in times hit by a pitch with 14, a non too comforting achievement to be sure. Notes:
Our other Cape Cod League player, DJ struggles to find time for the Chatham squad, garnering just 8 at bats the entire season for the Athletics, who run away with the Cape Cod League pennant going 66-24 and finishing 12 games up on Bourne. Chatham is led by Cad Coles (.331) and Joe Willis (14-4, 1.75), two names barely know outside of Massachusetts. Notes:
Out final rookie is by far the most succesful as McCloud goes straight from the factory teams of Minnesota to a spot in the Cincinnati Reds outfield, where he give a more than adequate account of himself, showing well at the plate and in the field. The Reds finish 3rd in the NL at 83-71, 3 games back of New York as a reborn Noodles Hahn wins 23 games and Miller Huggins and Cap Anson lead the offense. Notes:

Yeah that was a surprising pick, but Fox was consistent. Beginning June 4th his average never went below .255 or above .270 the remainder of the season and he was hitting .268 when selections were made. Had to be the glove... Oh yeah, went 0-3 in the All-star game |

We welcome the three new players for 1910, giving us 19 seeking fame and fortune.
David Gonzalez and Mike Schaplowsky both set out from their homes in Fremont California and will be 18 and 19 respectively when the season starts. Gonzalez plays LF and is said to pack a fearsome wallop, while Schaplowsky plays CF and is known for his blazing speed and cannon arm. Joining them will by 19 yr old pitcher Tim Finkenstadt, said to possess good control and major league level stuff, Tim hails from Dayton, Onio and grew up watching the Hometown Dayton Marcos of the Federal League. A league in which we have no active players incidentally. |

Close to a World Series title, close to a second pennant, close to .400 and falling just short. I've got a whole box of premium cigars for when I finally get those things, especially a ring and .400.

1910 is done but this morning I am getting a no signal message on my "gameing PC" and I have ruled out a bad monitor, so it may likely be a fried video card
Waiting to call my PC guy at 8, but it may be a few days before I get things fixed. I don't want to just slap in a new video card without having him run a diagnostic check, so probably nothing further until after the Christmas. Friggin rig is only 9 months old too |

1910 Season - Part 1
The Cubbies had a solid season coming in 88-66, but it was only good enough for 4th, 19 games behind the 107 win Milwaukee Juggernaught. Friday led the Cubs in hitting and was #1 in the NL with an OBP of .433, thanks to an astonishing 125 walks, also tops in the league. Notes:
Ginsberg completed his 4th season in Lowell and helped the Shamrocks to the their 5th straight Eastern League crown and led the league in RBI, while tying for the top spot in HR with teammate Frank Justice. Notes:
O'Rourke was a bit more human than usual in 1910, though his overpowering fastball still accounted for the most strikeouts in baseball as the Browns tied Chicago for 4th in the NL at 88-66. O'Rourke was a 20 game winner for the 4th straight year, but also gave up a league high 22 homeruns, so when batters did connect the ball traveled. Notes:
Jestor continues to be one of the top batsmen in baseball as the Brewers run away with the NL pennant with a stellar record of 107-47. Jestor was joined by ace Ed Walsh (26-10, 2.41) but the lethal duo once again fell short in October, falling to the Highlanders in the fall classic 4 games to 2, winning the opener, but then losing 3 straight. Notes:

1910 Season - Part 2
Gale supplants Jestor and the Brewers leading hitter in his second year with the Brewers, playing a huge part in their pennant run. Gale's .351 average and 208 hits were both tops in the league and Benton has settled into the 5th spot, forming the most potent middle of the order in the league with Jestor and NL HR king Patrick Hutt. Notes:
Neilsen returned in style from a career threatening injury, shattering his previous career highs in all pitching catagories and also discovered a strikeout pitch, whiffing 310 in 341 innings for the 2nd place Alleghenys (92-62) who had two other 20 game winners in Tommy Bond and Bob Rhoads. Notes:
The Bees take 3rd place in the PCL (77-63) and get another solid season from Shepard, who is second on the team in hitting behind Frank 'Home Run' Baker. Tim recorded a fine .402 OPB, which was good enough for 2nd in the PCL, but as 1910 closes it appears he will be seeking fame and fortune in another city last year. Notes:
Bafou, settling into the Eastern League recorded his best professional season yet for the Hilldale Giants, who unfortunately finish dead last in the league at 41-79, 35 games behind Lowell. Notes:

Dominance, Nielsen style.
Mr. Nielsen would also point out the pinpoint accuracy, allowing only 62 walks. Of those 62, 61 were umpire bias. Nielsen intentionally walked one batter so he could bean Jestor. Last edited by Coffee Warlord : 01-03-2013 at 10:44 AM. |

1910 Season - Part 3
Hutt has a power surge, leading the Majors in home runs, RBI and total bases, but also leads in strikeouts, going down swinging 161 times which is the second highest season total in major league history. Despite the high K total, Hutt bats 4th for Milwaukee, giving him plenty of opportunity to drive in runs with Jestor hitting in front of him. Notes:
Justice absolutely destroy EL pitching in his debut season in the league, surpassing .400 for the 2nd time in his career for the pennant winning Shamrocks. Besides batting, Justice also leads the EL in hits, home runs, runs scored and walks. Though he is not competing against major league pitching, this is undoubtedly the finest season of any of our players. Notes:
The Staten Island flash records his best season to date at the plate, while continuing to terrorize NL catchers on the basepaths, leading the league in steals for the 4th straight season and earning his first All-Star selection. Notes:
Wood continues to struggle for playing time in his 4th professional season and will likely look to move on from Midland after appearing in only 5 games in his second year with the club. Notes:

1910 Season - Part 4
Dawkins sees his role increased in his second season at Bourne as the Braves finish 2nd in the Cape Cod League behind Chatham at 52-38. Dawkins 6 saves are good enough for second in the league and he will toil for the 1910 pennant winners in 1911. Notes:
The elder Dawkins brother struggles at the plate in his second year with the Niagra's who are Eastern League runners up to Lowell at 69-51. Dawkins continues to be a magnet for pitchers, coming in second in the league in HBP with 11, after leading the EL in the same catagory in 1910. Notes:
Thomas earns a starting role in 1910 and enjoys celebrating a pennant winning season as the Athletics finish 57-33. DJ leads the CCL in hitting and doubles (29) and is earning recognition as the leagues finest Catcher. Notes:
Young McCloud is becoming a favored son in Cincy, establishing a solid hold on the RF job, which he expects to hold for many years. The Reds are a middle of the road team, finishing in 5th place at 75-79, with Fox leading the NL in doubles with 31 and desplaying solid defensive prowess. Notes:

1910 Season - Part 5
Not much of a year for Tim, who spends the season on the White Caps reserve roster as Brewster comes in third in the CCL at 49-41 Notes:
Gonzalez debuts in the Federal League, starting for most of the season in LF for the Marcos, who finish 60-80, in 7th place in the rookies first year. Gonzalez needs to improve his hitting, but is already revered as a fielder Notes:
Schaplowsky explodes into the scene in the Eastern League for the third place Eagles who finish 65-55, 11 games back of Lowell. Mike is a demon on the base paths leading the league with 52 steals, while coming in 4th in batting, earning a plethora of awards along the way and recording our most successful rookie campaign. Just finished simming 1911, steroids in the deadball era as one of our players set a major league record with 37 round trippers!!
As an aside, I am going to tone down power numbers. Originally I made the boosts to power more modern, so I have toned them down to be solid for the deadball era. So this will hopefully be known as the one and only PED season |

1911 Season summary
1911 Season summary (all in one post, woohoo)
1911 is complete and we experience a power surge of epic proporations that ushers forth outcrys from the games traditionalists, which will be looked at for 1912.
