Womanly ideal (...of Roosevelt's heyday) = "Babe" (perhaps connecting to Babe Ruth?)

Bill "Matlock" could be the Andy Griffith series.

Louis Lipps was a football player.

In baseball we have teh following from baseball-reference.com:

Angelo Lipetri 1956-1958
Johnny Lipon 1942-1954
Tom Lipp 1897-1897
Nig Lipscomb 1937-1937
Bob Lipski 1963-1963

Or it does say "Nickname by funkytown"

Lipps Inc. - Funkytown
Gotta make a move to a town that's right for me
Town to get me movin' keep me groovin' with some energy
Well I talk about it, talk about it, talk about it, talk about it
Talk about, talk about, talk about moving
Gotta move on, gotta move on, gotta move on

Oh won't you take me to, Funkytown
Won't you take me to, Funkytown
Won't you take me to, Funkytown
Won't you take me to, Funkytown

Won't you take me to, Funkytown
Won't you take me to, Funkytown
Won't you take me to, Funkytown
Won't you take me to, Funkytown

Gotta make a move to a town that's right for me

Or if you go with the Edgar Allen Poe "Telltale Heart" you could stretch it to Edgar Martinez.

Side note:
I'm wondering with Foxx, Williams, Babe if we aren't focusing on Hall of Famers.

No, closest thing in baseball-reference is:

Matt Sinatro 1981-1992

He sucked. Career .190 average. Billy Herman/Babe Ruth/Ted Williams/Jimmy Fox x are all hall of famers. Not sure that's relevant.

Wasn't familiar with him but that would fit with the Herman's Hermit's and the HoF'ers trend that we're seeing.

The Williams/Foxx/Herman/Babe references all feel pretty solid to me.

Matlock/Madlock worries me, I don't think we've really gotten anywhere with the Lipps one(none of the stuff I posted really makes sense) and there are a lot with still totally no headway.

So... yeah, it seems like there's something else out there, because usually when we find a pattern like this(w/ baseball hall of famers) all the clues would make sense in a matter of minutes. Some of the baseball ones so far seem very solid, but, I have the same hunch you do.

Andy Griffith could be associated to Clark Griffith.

I'm thinking that the HOF is too big a pool to work from -- maybe the baseball players are all connected in some narrower way.

Williams, Ruth, Foxx, and Herman all played for Boston (Herman for the Boston Braves)

Shame on me for needing a push for this. On first read, I though it sounded like a song lyric, but google gave me nothing... here's yet another link, reaffirming the NY/Bos connection, too.

- - - - -

Group: Yaz
Song: Situation

Lyrics:

blue eyed dressed for every situation
moving through the doorway of a nation
pick me up and shake the doubt
baby i can't do without

chorus
move out, don't mess around
move out, you bring me down
move out, how you get about
don't make a sound just move out

i remember only for an hour
move right through me can you feel the power
i don't know what's going on
it scares me but it won't take long

repeat chorus

now he's in control he is my lover
nations stand against him he's your brother
been a long time, been a long time now
i'll get to you somehow

repeat chorus

So far it could be strictly Boston. Babe played for the Yanks, but no other Yankee connections that I'm aware of.

Griffith series down south, but not the obvious.

Could that possibly be referring to a different Griffith, instead of a non-Mayberry Andy Griffith show?

http://imdb.com/find?q=griffith;tt=on;nm=on;mx=20

Melanie is the obvious one to me but I don't see anything obvious.

EDIT: I'm not sure here still... here's Andy Griffith's bio too, any other hits there that make sense?

http://imdb.com/name/nm0341431/

I had the same thought. I saw the writer of Peyton Place was a Griffith, but I don't believe that series was in the South. I also saw Andy was in Mayberry, RFD, but I don't think there was a Red Sox Mayberry (although there was a Royal named Mayberry).

Here's the plot summary for "The New Andy Griffith Show"

"After working for several years in the state capital for the government, Andy Sawyer learns that the mayor of his hometown is retiring from the position and is looking for an appointee to fill in for the rest of the term. Thinking it sounds like a good deal, Andy packs up and moves back home to Greenwood with his wife and two children to become the new mayor of the sleepy little southern town."

A nickname for the young John?

So far all we've had for this one was Jack. It'd be a strectch to link this to Reggie Jackson, wouldn't it?

"Babe" Didrickson/Ruth is not correct. Looking for more of a...concept here. The rest of Quik's summary is correct.

I also must admit that I jumped the gun so to speak on one of the clues - a case where one of these things is not *quite* like the others (though it most certainly will be).

Since its right before another political related question, could this have to do with John Edwards (with him being younger than John Kerry)?

Maybe it is a reference to Joe DiMaggio, as in Simon & Garfunkel's Mrs. Robinson.

A couple of thoughts here...

#1 - JFK Jr was known pretty universally as "John John" when he was young. Maybe a link to a name like "Johns" or something from that?

#2 - Perhaps the "John" here is a last name -- maybe for Elton John? Real name was Reginald... I'm thinking this might be Reggie Jackson. (It made more sense to me as I was typing, even) Anyone else buy that twisted logic?
