Date: 9 / 9 / 2007 Sources: Onside.dk Headline: Trash-talk once again ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once again before a Brøndby – AaB game the two managers have a hard time keeping their mouth closed. Again this time it was AaBs manager Erik Hamren who started the “show” with a comment about Brøndby not being good enough to win the title this year. That’s more or less his standard comment in front of every Brøndby – AaB game. Brøndbys GM Northwood normally doesn’t talk a lot in the press but it didn’t take him long to firer back at Hamren this time and his response was not very polite. He told the press that he was not sure if Hamren was good enough to coach in the top level and that he was not the type of manager he wanted in the game. This will hardly calm down the hype before the game where Brøndby needs to win after finishing the three first games with three ties and only three points. AaB on the other hand is off to great start with three wins and nine points. |

After that Brøndby went on cruise-control and just controlled the rest of the game. Date: 20 / 8 / 2007 Sources: Brøndby front office Headline: Brøndby line-up for second leg of Panathinaikos AO game ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18 Brøndby players was ready in Kastrup Airport (Copenhagen) this morning to board the plane to Greece for without a question the most important Brøndby game of the season. Not because Brøndby has any hope of winning the Champions League title but for the financial aspect. If Brøndby manages to squeeze past Panathinaikos AO they will be guaranteed an income of more then £5mil this season in price money and TV-revenue. That’s more then double the amount Brøndby can normally expect to earn in a single season. Defends is the same as the previous games and Thomas Kahlenberg is be back from injury as AMC. German Denis and Daniel Agger will be added as substitutes together with an extra goalkeeper (Dimitrov). Peter Graulund is also out and replaced by Babis Stefanidis who just signed a new contract earlier this week. Brøndby will start out in the 4-3-1-2 formations but with Panathinaikos AO having the away-goal from the first leg, Brøndby will have to score a goal if they want to move ahead. Expect them to switch to 3-3-1-3 if necessary. Code:

Date: 21 / 9 / 2007 Sources: WorldSoccer.com Headline: More big transfers ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The big clubs in Europe keep spending big money before they have to announce the list of the 25 players ready to play in the Champions League. Today Chelsea used another £30mil on top of the £93mil from last season. The new player in Stamford Bridge is Dutch attacking midfielder Wesley Sneijder. He went from Ajax to Valencia back in 2004/5 and was named in the “Team of the season” in Spain last season. Now he moves to England to play his football in London. The other big transfer of the day is journey-man Javier Saviola and this time he sets a new transfer record. He came back to Barcelona after the loan to Monaco in 2004/5 only to be sold to Inter for £23mil. In Inter he only got 14 games (7 goals) before he moved to the other big Milano club AC Milan. They paid £33mil to get him. That’s 44 games ago and now he is on the move again. The buyer is Barcelona!!! They now pay more then double the price the got for him back in 2005/6. The price is an amazing £53mil with a monthly wage to the player of £170.000. That’s still a long way from the £425.000 Joaquin and Zambrotta is paid weakly with their current contracts. |

Side note:
I must say that I really don’t like this Saviola transfer. The rapid moves is acceptable but unlikely, but for him to return to his original club for more then double the amount he was sold for in the first place is just not happening. I cannot say I have ever seen this happen in real life. It of cause happens that players return to their original club after a short time, but that is normally when they bust and the re-buy price is never bigger then the original transfer. This was the first “mistake” by the game I noticed in 15 hours of play so I guess I can live with it. Last edited by Northwood_DK : 06-03-2005 at 07:21 AM. |

Date: 22 / 8 / 2007 Sources: UEFA.com Headline: Today’s results ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Champions League qual round 3, Leg 2: Panathinaikos AO - Brøndby FT 1-1 / (HT 1 – 0) In a must win game for Brøndby they were off to a bad start when MR Martin Retov had to leave the field already after 21 minutes with a minor injury. He was replaced by Jonas Kamper. After 32 minutes it got a lot worse. A harmless free kick by Panathinaikos in to the penalty arrear was fumbled over the goal line by Karim Zaza for an own goal. Now Brøndby needed a goal just to tie and get extra-time. They stayed in their normal 4-3-1-2 formation until the 59th minute. At that time manager Thomas Northwood decided it was time to gamble and changed formation to 3-3-1-3. Defender Asbjoern Sennels was taken off the field and replaced by attacker Babis Stefanidis. Morten Skoubo was also taken off (with a small injury) and German Denis replaced him up in front. The reward of the gamble came after 71 minutes of play. A free kick from midfield was sent in to the Panathinaikos penalty arrear. The cleanse felt to Leon Andreasen who took the shot from 30yds out between friends and enemies and it went in all the way down in the right bottom corner of the goal. 1-1 and the two teams were back to even. Brøndby changed back to their normal formation for the remaining of the game and nothing much happened in the last 15 minutes of play. Panathinaikos had the biggest chances in the first half of extra time without getting the all important goal. In the second half of extra time Panathinaikos suddenly found themselves under pressure when they had a man shown his second yellow card and was reduced to jus 10 men. They changed formation to only have one attacker and Brøndby took advantage and moved back to playing with 3 attackers in the last 5 minutes. It didn’t help any and the game was to be decided by penalties. Five players from each team and if no winner is found 1 player from each team until a winner is found. The same player can not kick twice. Brøndby won the draw and decide to kick first. Dan Anthon Johansen (penalty rating: 15) takes the first kick. Starts his run-up and scores without problem Brøndby 1 – Panathinaikos 0 Konstantinou (penalty rating: 16) is first out for Panathinaikos and he make no mistakes. Brøndby 1 – Panathinaikos 1 Next up for Brøndby is Babis Stefanidis (penalty rating: 12). His second nationality is Greek but he shows no sign of the pressure and puts Brøndby back in front. Brøndby 2 – Panathinaikos 1 Dimitriadis (penalty rating: 15) is solid as a rock and Karim Zaza is not even close to saving the ball. Brøndby 2 – Panathinaikos 2 German Denis (penalty rating: 12) is next on the spot for Brøndby. He only takes two steps back and delivers a weak shot. Saved!! Brøndby 2 – Panathinaikos 2 Panathinaikos South African defender Nasief Morris (penalty rating: 8) gives the Greek the lead for the second time today and adds pressure on Brøndby. Brøndby 2 – Panathinaikos 3 Bashkim Ziberi (penalty rating: 11) must score for Brøndby to have a chance of coming back and puts the ball in the middle of the goal when the keeper dives early. Brøndby 3 – Panathinaikos 3 This looks like a mistake from Panathinaikos. Defensive midfielder Papadimitriou shows why he only has a penalty rating of 2. Zaza has no problem saving his attempt. Brøndby 3 – Panathinaikos 3 Jonas Kamper (penalty rating: 13) puts the pressure back on Panathinaikos with a goal on the 5th and final penalty. Brøndby 4 – Panathinaikos 3 Panathinaikos biggest star Emmanuel Olisadebe (penalty rating: 14) now must score or the game will be over. But he shows why he is the highest paid player in Greek football and score safely. Brøndby 4 – Panathinaikos 4 Its now one player from each team until a winner is found. The 12.000 spectator is getting full value for their money. Thomas Kahlenberg (penalty rating: 8) steps up first for Brøndby. He shows why clubs around the world has started to take notice of him and puts Brøndby back on top. Brøndby 5 – Panathinaikos 4 Konstantinidis (penalty rating: 3) now must score to keep Panathinaikos in the game. He steps up and….. Blast the ball over the bar. BRØNDBY WINS. Brøndby moves on to the group stage of the Champions League with a 7-6 win after extra time and penalties. |

It’s a long time since I have been talking to my screen but this game was a real roller-coaster ride and had me screaming at the small dots running around in 2-D on my screen. From the early goal by Panathinaikos AO, the surprise equalizer, overtime, the red card, the missed penalty, the save by Zaza and finally the joy of victory. Now I remember why I love CM/FM………… |

The new player added to the Brøndby team is Algerian international Mehdi Guerrouad. He comes from Danish second division club Viborg with a price tag of £250k. Experts around Danish football see this as the first move by Brøndby to preparer for the departure of Thomas Kahlenberg. The emergency meeting was called after it was clearer the Morten Skoubo once again had turned down a contract offer from Brøndby due to the low basic wage offered by the club. Skoubo asks for close to £36.000 pr month while the Brøndby board only will allow £22.000 and after tonight’s meeting it was clear that they had no intentions to change their mind. Brøndby will risk loosing some of their key players in the months to come if they don’t agree to sign new contracts soon. Its unknown if Northwood will give the board an ultimatum or try to work out deals with the players inside today’s financial structure. |

Date: 5 / 9 / 2007 Sources: Danish Football Union (DBU) Headline: Thomas Northwood’s first games with Denmark ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The two first games for Denmark under new manager Thomas Northwood ended with a win and a draw. Northwood was very conservative picking out his team but had to make some tough choices when a lot Denmark’s best attackers were hit by injury. Three Brøndby players were selected and Dan Anthon Johansen got his two first internationals. The first of the two games was a home game against Hungary. It was an ugly game with 11 yellow and 2 red cards but none of the teams managed to score a goal. Denmark was the only team with shots on goal (10) but none of them got over the line. The second game was an away game against Slovakia and a must win if Denmark still wanted to have a chance to qualify. Northwood was saved by Fulham attacking midfielder Claus Jensen who scored two times. Claus Jensen was not even selected in the team of 25 players travelling to the mach but was added later when another played was out to injury. Denmark’s have temporarily taken over the lead in group 7 from Turkey. Denmark has 14 points, one more point then the Turks but also a game more played. Frem got of to the best start and was awarded a penalty after just 10 minutes of play when Allan Olesen stopped a Frem player in the penalty arrear. Karim Zaza took a gamble and remained standing in the middle of that goal and could easily save the poor taken penalty. After that it was all Brøndby. Morten Skoubo got the first goal after 16 minutes with the help from Yohan on another Brøndby-fast break. Just before halftime Martin Retov pressed a Frem defender to make an own-goal to make it 2-0 at half time. Brøndby used all their three subs early in the second half to try to give some key players some rest before the Wednesdays meeting with Real Madrid. That worked out fine as both Daniel Agger and Mehdi Guerrouad scored a goal. Brøndby now suddenly finds them self back on the top of Danish football league. A strange turn of events considering the poor start to the season. Date: 10 / 9 / 2007 Sources: Brøndby Fans Homepage Headline: A closer look at Real Madrid ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Spanish titleholders don’t need any presentation. They have upgraded for £46mil before this season but still have well known names as Beckham, Carlos, Raul, and Zidane on their roster. Joaquin and Xabi Alonso are the new stars in Madrid. Brøndby is chanceless in the two matches against a Real Madrid team that could play their backups and still be heavy favourites. For many of the Brøndby players this will be the only time they will ever play on this big a stage. If Brøndby can not expect to get a win on the field against Real Madrid, they will be laughing all the way to the bank. It will be a surprise if Brøndby don’t set a new audience and audience revenue record when Real comes to town. Expected Real Madrid starting line-up: Code:

On the field Thomas Kahlenberg gets back in his first game since 26/8 and Babis Stefanidis takes the place of second attacker next to Morten Skoubo. Azoulay Yohan have had a great start to the season but has looked very tired on the practise field the last few days and the 19year old player is just not in a physical shape to start today’s mach. He will start the game on the bench. Of the 18 Brøndby players ready for tonight’s game 7 of them is not Danish. Code:

Date: 11 / 8 / 2007 Sources: UEFA.com Headline: Today’s results ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Champions League Group A Round 1: Brøndby – Real Madrid FT 1-2 / (HT 1 – 1) The 31262 on the stands feared the worst when Fernando Morientes scored already after 1:04 on a well executed attack. Luckily Brøndby didn’t panic and managed to pull back even after just 17 minutes on a long shot by Martin Retov. The rest of the half was one long press by the Madrid team but they never managed to get the second goal. Brøndby started the second half by pulling Morten Skoubo and Bashkim Ziberi out, who both had had days against the solid opponents. They were replaced by Azoulay Yohan and Diego Cochas. The game was decided after 55 minutes when Morients got his second of the day when he scored on his own rebound from a header on a cross from Stankovic. Brøndby was never close in the remaining 35 minutes of the game and Real winning the shots-stat 25-6 gives a good picture of the game. In the other game in the group PSG won 2-1 over Ukrainian Dinamo Kiev. Brøndby Game MVP: Per Nielsen (rating: 8) Last edited by Northwood_DK : 06-12-2005 at 03:50 AM. |

The old record of £525.000 was from last year when Liverpool visited in the second knockout round in the UEFA-cup. 31626 was also the highest attendance this season but not a new Brøndby record. The record is from the 2005/6 season when 31733 showed up at Brøndby stadium to see the league match against FC København. That was just 15 persons short of a complete sell-out. The average attendance to a Brøndby game has increased from 20085 in 2004/5 to 23568 after the two first month of play this year. Last edited by Northwood_DK : 06-12-2005 at 03:51 AM. |

Daniel Agger will replace Asbjørn Sennels on DL for his first start of the season. Sennels will not be among the 15 players selected for today’s game and will get some much needed rest. Another player who will not get playing time his week is Peter Garulund. Complains to manager Thomas Northwood during the week was not enough to convince him to move Graulund in to the starting line-up. A play who took another approach to the problem of not being in the first team this week was Diego Cochas. This week he has announced that he is prepared to wait for a first team opportunity in Brøndby if necessary. The will stay patient and work hard and hope that is enough to take him in to the first team. He was rewarded with a place on the bench for this week’s game. Code:

The question was once again about Thomas Kahlenberg and his future in Brøndby. With clubs like Atletico Madrid, Parma, Lazio and Newcastle showing interest Thomas Northwood said that he would be surprised if Kahlenberg decided to stay. The player in question was not available for a comment but has earlier announced his joy playing for Brøndby and has said not to have any immediate plans for the future. Thomas Kahlenberg is once again looking to have an excellent season and currently have an average rating of 8.46. Last edited by Northwood_DK : 06-12-2005 at 05:03 AM. |

Side Note: I have a policy not to start a player if his condition is rated lower then 90. Only key-players in very important games will make me change that rule. In some cases I keep them on the bench for a late appearance but prefer to let them rest completely. I also just received the player-tracker Frogman have made (Thanks Frogman and sorry about your dynasty) and found a lot of players on the reserve and U-18 that deserves a chance in the first team in the months to come. |

Leon Andreasen is not in any shape to start this game and will be sidelined. That will give Brazilian midfielder Jackson his first start of the season. The biggest blow to Brøndbys winning chances is that Morten Skoubo will miss his first start of the season. He has not been scoring that frequently this season but his is still Brøndbys top guy up front. It’s a surprise that young Wellington gets another chance in this important a game as he has not accomplish much in the two games he has played this season. Brøndby must not loss this game. If the end up with 0 points after two games it will be almost impossible for them to finish second in the group and advance and the third place to get in to the UEFA cup will also be difficult to get. They just had to wait 15 minutes for the first goal. The Brøndby defends was caught sleeping after a corner and leaves Maxim Shatskikh unmarked in the penalty arrear and he has no problem scoring. Dinamo has the ball most of the time in the first half and is moving it around a lot faster then Brøndby but the score remains 1-0 after 45 minutes of play. In the second half the paten is the same but Brøndby now manage to get in a few dangerous counterattacks. After 63 minutes Brøndby manager Thomas Northwood decided to top the team and made three substitutions. Dan Anton Johanes had an awful day and was taken off together with Jackson and Yohan. That made room for Daniel Agger, Leon Andreasen and Morten Skoubo to come in and try to make a difference. After 80 minutes of play that was just what happened. Brøndby got a corner and it was taken by Leon Andreasen. He found Skoubo in the arrear and he powered in a header to tie the game again. Both team had chances to win the match in the last 10 minutes but the final score remained 1-1. In the second game of the group, Real Madrid destroyed ParisSG 5-0. They still have to generate another £10mil if they want to better the result from 2006 when they had a total income of £19.8mil. On the expense side Brøndby it looks like the club is spending a little more money this year. £7.8 mil has already gone out and that only leaves £3.5mil before they reach last years spending. It’s the £3.5mil spend on new players and sign on fees together with close to £1mil in tax money that have ran up this costs this year. Brøndby is still looking to make a profit this year (currently £1.5mil) but the £8.4mil from last year looks like a difficult target. |

This is the match between the two biggest and most ambitious clubs in Danish football. There is just 30 minutes between the two clubs stadiums with FC København playing their home games on the Danish national stadium (Parken) in the centre of Copenhagen. The two teams have already played each other 13 times with Brøndby winning 4, 6 ties and 3 wins to FC København. Three of the last four games have finished in a tie. Brøndby can for the first time in a few weeks start the game with their expected best line-up. The only player missing from the “normal” line-up is Asbjørn Sennels who need a rest. His replacement Daniel Agger has shown good improvement the last few weeks and looks like the player who can fill in for Per Nielsen the day he decided to retire. This is the 3rd home game for Brøndby in a row and with only 2 points in the two first games they need a win now. FC København is looking shape this season and has only lost one game. Code:

The game was decided on a fantastic long shot in to the top left corner from 35yds out. Unluckily for Brøndby it was Norwegian international and FC København playmaker Magne Hoseth who got the goal after 78 minutes of play. Date: 1 / 10 / 2007 Sources: Brøndby front office Headline: Brøndby change policy ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Brøndby today announced that they have decided to change their player policy. From having 31 players in the first team Brøndby will cut the first team down to 23 players. Instead of having 8 players in the first team that have still not started a single game this season they are now moved down to the reserve team and will get a chance to get some valuable match practice. The players affected by this change of policy are: GK Dimitar Dimitrov He is still the backup keeper to Karim Zaza but will now have a chance to see some action in the reserves team. Brøndby is only allowed to have four substitutes in the Danish league and don’t use one for a keeper therefore Dimitrov is currently only active (on the bench) in Champions Leagues games. DM Stefan Schmidt Came from AaB the year Thomas Northwood took over as manager in Brøndby and have never been a first team regular. Have only started 14 games in four seasons and have still not been selected for a single mach this year. M LC Jesper Mikkelsen Has never showed his potential in Brøndby and has requested a transfer. Maybe a visit to the reserves can get him back on track. M C Kostas Valancauskas A young player who came to Brøndby before this season. Will need to develop a lot to get back in the first team. F L Martin Beck Andersen Have been away from Brøndby on loan the two previous years but this year he have to compete with players like Skoubo, Yohan, Stefanidis, Wellington and Graulund for a spot in the first team. Right now he is not even close and will get al lot more out of playing in the reserves team. F LC Marc Olsen Another young attacker with little chance of getting playing time in the first team. M C Kim Daugaard The 33 year old midfielder is currently injured and have this season lost his place in the first team to Leon Andreasen. He got lots of routine but it’s unlikely he will play a major role in Brøndby first team again. When Wellington recovers from injury one more player will moved down. That leaves 23 (+1 injured9 players in the first team. The reserve team players a reserves team tournament together with 11 other teams. They are currently second after 7 round of play with three wins, four ties and no losses. The Brøndby first team will after today look like this: Code:
