You should just send him a note that says: "You're welcome".

If it wasn't for you breaking his nose, he wouldn't have the antagonist for his book.

I'd sue for money, then spend the money on hookers and blow.

Meh, the situation has torn me quite a bit honestly. On one hand, I'm thinking .. "crazy, grudge-holding, psycho". On the other, I feel really bad that as a direct result of my ass-holio youth, this poor guy was traumatized enough to see me as the biggest 'villian' in his life.

I just reiterated that I'm pleased that he's come to peace with it, and offered my apologies for the trauma it obviously caused him.

On the flip, it's been a very interesting mind-play. Am I a caveman who finds some humor that I was responsible for the guys darkest hour of life ? Is he a psycho that has held on to a grudge from a high school fight for 20 years ?

Depends. Was it a fight with some legitimate reason for both sides or were you just being a prick & picking on the poor bastard?

Pretty big difference in him being traumatized by a bully & finding some relief decades later versus being a bit psycho just cause he got his ass kicked in a relatively fair fight.

**the possibility that you were just being a jerk is one I raised only because you referred to it as your "assholio youth". Open for various interpretations but being the class bully is at least a reasonable possibility based on that phrase.

Yea. It depends the context of the "assholio youth." Fair fight? Whatever. Were you a bully who picked on this guy on a continuous basis? Then you were an asshole, and bullying has shown to reach well beyond the school years.

But I feel you mentioned it was over a girl? Might just be you were possibly a dick, landed a unfortunate perfect punch, and it really hasn't effected his life too much but when writing a book he thought of you for the villain.

Kind of both A & B I suppose.

I wouldn't say .. 'fair fight' . but I wouldn't really say 'bullying' either.

Truth is, he was "less tough" than I, and I knew it. I was upset that he sent a note asking my GF to go out with him. I confronted him, he wanted nothing to do with anything physical, but I punched him anyway. His head snapped and hit a baseball backstop pole, then he fell, and his head hit the concrete before his body. So, alot of impact to his face.

She had been my girlfriend for 1 yr+ at the time, and I was a protective kid. TBH, I enjoyed fighting, and it was well known. I had a reputation for being a hothead. For instance, during basketball season (I played football and baseball), at school every next week - there was talk of me fighting the other schools kids. Usually defending one of "my schools" kids.

Nonetheless, in hindsight, I should have listened to him. On the other hand, there isn't any doubt he knew I had a temper and chose to give my G-Friend a note asking her out .

As for the "bully" thing. Not really, to be honest. I loved my school & our kids, and felt I was some kind of "protector" of it. I fought often, but rarely in house. Most of my aggression was dealt with people picking on my buds.

It seems like bygones are trying to be bygones now, so I figure they can be allowed to be that. His lol was enough to tell me hes not too beat up over it any more. Your punch may have just been the worst thing that ever happened to him, so in drawing from life experience to create this character, he had nothing better to go with. To be honest, it sounds like a sweet deal to be immortalized in print (No matter that it is likely nothing significant) for a reasonably trivial event.

FTR, I was grasping for a phrase with the "fair fight" thing. Hell, the only "fair fight" involving me is one where I win & the other guy doesn't. That's "fair" enough for my taste.

What I was shooting for was some notion of the incident being justifiable versus, I dunno, you walking up & hitting the guy in the face with a frying pan randomly or something.
