I agree with that. I got her a stand mixer last year, one of those big honkin' $100+ Kitchen-Aid deals that she had seemingly been drooling over all year, then I break it out as the big last present and the actual response was:

"Why'd you spend all that money?"

The hoped and desired response would've been something like calling over childhood friend Drew Barrymore for an immediate 3-way.

Agree heartily. Its counter-productive:

1999 gift for her: Deep-fat fryer.
2000 gift for him: 3-speed power drill.
