I think I'll have fun with my team. Hopefully one of you guys has some deadline availability, because mine is going to be brutal this week.

You won't really need to be available at deadline time as long as you can check in beforehand and make your team choices. I will give you your choices well before actual deadline and then run the "result" at deadline time.

It won't be like typical WW where you might need to really hang out at deadline to vote, etc...

Pre-Crawl Waiting

All 12 of you wait in a typical green room. Simple cinderblock walls with a heavy duty carpet on the floor provide little to look at, but there are two tables of food waiting on the south wall. The north wall has a video screen showing images (mostly deaths) from past XCrawls. Next to the screen is a heavy looking door, obviously leading into the crawl itself. A referee stands in front of the door wearing the traditional black and white striped shirt, a NonCombat badge resting on his chest.

You are anxious to begin. Everyone scopes out the other teams, sizing them up.

A camera crew arrives with the world famous sports reporter Scud Farkus. He begins to interview various members of the teams. The first things he wants to know is:

What is your team name?
Is your team full of Heroes or Heels (are you good or evil aligned)?

Discuss this among yourselves (PMs between team members is fine in this game), and submit your team name and team alignment (Good or Evil) to me by Noon tomorrow. Remember, best name gets a Fame bonus as the audience is a fickle sort and names go a long way toward winning them over. Fame is equally attainable from Heroes or Heels as even if you're hated the boos still make people watch you. But your team name and actions in the Crawl should match your alignment or fame will suffer.

Note: I'll give you some leeway on this first deadline if you need it since it's only 14 or so hours from now.

Note 2: I also need you to complete the character choices for your class if you have not already done so.

I need character choices from the following peeps:

Hoopsguy
CrimsonFox
Eaglefan
Chief Rum
Darth Vilus

That's the weapon, spells (mage only), and attribute bonus choices.

I should repeat that posting in character and roleplaying is not required, but can grant Fame bonuses.

I don't want to force anyone to RP in this game, so I'm making the bonuses fairly minor, but every little bit helps...

Checking in, going to fire up some Splinter Cell: Conviction a bit more (loving it so far) and thenget some sleep.

On another note, if I wasn't married (and a few years younger) this woman that works at the local Gamestop would be THE perfect woman. She has a hot body, is cute (not hot but definitely cute) and has the greatest personality. Was talking with her about everything from games to football to the UFC bouts from the weekend (with a little about the latest season of TUF). Her husband is a lucky man.

The crowd begins to chant. You can vaguely hear it through the think walls of the green room.

You can't tell if they're saying "Meat! Meat! Meat! Meat!"

Or

"Eat Meat! Eat Meat!"

You hope it's the former.

"MEAT" THE CONTESTANTS continues...

Dominic "Fandango" Franconi is known throughout the world for his exploits both in the dungeons and outside it. He grew up in the limelight, a street performer since the earliest age he can remember, a master juggler, acrobat and magician. Some would say a pickpocket and rooftop man, but Dominic simply says he's always paid the bills.

His skill to wow a crowd is known throughout the world but when he first entered the dungeons many said he was all show, not enough grit. Fandango silenced quite a few critics however while amassing an impressive record in the XCrawl. Fans still marvel over the video of the tumbling Cave Troll Takedown, the ridiculously ludicrous Dance Among the Carrion Crawler Legs and of course the time he fooled Team Agritticus into taking a chest of cursed swords while he made off with the Ruby of Asmerand.

Fandango joins a new team of all stars for this XCrawl. With two daggers, quick feet and quicker wits he'll be looking to add to his legend.

Each team speaks privately with the referee and fills out their required paperwork, certifying that XCrawl will not be held responsible for any loss of life or limb that may occur.

The referee takes the papers to a side room and leaves you to wait...

What next?

You guys are a bunch of wimps and pansies. I have tangled with Predators, Richard Kimball, and Legislators, you guys are wimps by comparison. I will destroy this dungeon, everything in it, and most importantly, each and every one of you. From here on out, you can refer to me as Captain Freedom.

My sword is true, my shield strong, and my courage complete. I will win this thing.

This is what I get for figuring I would be able to check in early, and then get an ultimatum from my boss to get a project done...ugh. Sorry folks.

KWhit, if I still need to make my choices, I will go with the 2 Daggers and Fame as my primary attribute. Thanks!

The referee bids you all good luck then hands each player 50 gold pieces and a healing potion. "You'll need it," he says. Then he swings the doors of the room open wide and a wave of thunderous cheers, boos, and applause greets you.

"And we begin!" a booming voice calls.

All 12 of you make your way through the doorway and into a huge open air coliseum. Fans in their seats surround you on all sides. They cheer and jeer at you. Some even throw things.

You see that the voice was coming from Dungeon Judge Devastator - the blood clown of death. He wears red clown makeup made from the blood from victims of previous Crawls. He stands in the center of the coliseum holding a microphone.

He begins to announce your teams:

"First up, Killian's Killers! An Evil team if I ever saw one made up of J23, PurdueBrad, and Hoopsguy!" A round of boos greets your ears.

And then there's Deutschbäg! This name is all kinds of great because it is German AND it's offensive - so like double awesome! They're made up of Abe Sargent, Crimson Fox, and ntndeacon. -slight Fame bonus-

"Next: The Big Wang Theory!" A look of confusion from the crowd. "I don't know what it means, either, but they're the only Good team in this event (and who doesn't like a Big Wang every now and then?), so holler for them if you want - Darth Vilus, Danny, and Autumn. " And many will choose to support the only Heroes in this competition. -moderate Fame bonus-

"And then there's Bestiarii made up of Eaglefan, Jackal, and Chief Rum. I like this name SO MUCH because it makes me think of my first girlfriend, Bessie!" -moderate Fame bonus-

"Here are the teams for your next XCrawl!"

The crowd erupts.

Room One - The Coliseum

"Let's get it on!"

Still in the Coliseum:

In the middle of the grassy area where you stand are four stone pedestals standing about 4 feet off the ground. On top of each pedestal is a beautiful maiden, chained to a wooden stake in the center of the pedestal.

DJ Devastator calls to you. "Save the maidens! But do it quickly - they're LONELY!"

And then you notice the snakes. Each pedestal is guarded by a Giant Viper which slithers back and forth eyeballing you.

Each of your teams must take out the viper and pick the lock that is holding the maiden before moving onto the next room.

Your choices (each team must pick one and PM the choice to me by 9pm eastern):

Play it Safe: All 3 team members focus on the Viper before moving on to the lock.
Play it Fast: The Mage and Adventurer focus on the Viper while the Specialist tries to open the lock.

Reminder: This is a race, so faster is better. But if you get knocked unconscious or have decide to heal (through spell or potion), you will lose a bit of time to your competitors.

Note:

During combat, I will have you use your healing spell or potion automatically if your HP drops to a level where one more hit would kill you.

However, in between encounters, you need to PM me and tell me if you want to use an item, spell, or potion. These actions will add a slight amount of Time to your movement through the Crawl and will take place at the next deadline.

Another Note:

I am going to open up new threads for each team to discuss your strategy and for me to give you your own combat breakdown, etc. Mainly to keep us from having to do everything through PM. But there will also be times when teams are in very different rooms and I won't be able to

If you are not a member of the team indicated, do NOT read the team specific thread. Go read your own!

This thread will still be used for rule clarifications, team standings, etc. The basic public thread.

Yup, I accidentally entered the Big Wang thread, assuming it was for me.

Seriously, came in from outside (clicked on the "last unread post" in the forum), assuming the only active thread was the game thread, saw the first post, realized what it was for and got outta there.

In the beginning of time when the world was young and new the Supreme God Iluvatar created the first 5 beings in existence: A syren, a sorceror, an ogre, a demon, and a man. There were only 5 and yet the battle for dominion began, the first blow struck by the demon and ogre against the soceror. The syren quicklydescended on the man who becam helpless against her call, but the mage was stronger than all. He overcame his adversaries and punished them for their betrayal. The Demon Vazazel was banished to the depths of hell where he would forever remain, the Ogre Voc was trapped in the dark shadows to live forever with death and decay, and the syren Vera was silenced and trapped on a faraway isle where her call could no longer be heard. The man Viktor was spared by the mage as he had not raised a hand against his brethren.

Over the millennia his power grew to unimaginable heights and his legend sparked many stories and tales. Every mage, sorceror, and wizard to follow could never match his superior skills. Even the likes of Gandalf, Merlin and Dumbledore harbor a secret fear of the First Mage. The mage's name is Vahlmas.

Now, after all this time he has entered the Xcrawl with his fellow comrades Hunc and Dominic for a bit of fun. With their combined strength no one will be able to overpower this force of light.

Red smoke fills the entrance area. A lone spotlight hits a target that emerges.
A tall black-maned man clad in black leather with red tiger stripe slits cut in it struts out from the mist. He swings a black axe over his head lined with silver strings, pointing it at the crowd. "Hello Deutschbägs!" He swings the axe back and strums a distorted chord out which pulses into the echoing chamber. The strings spontaneously burst into flames.

"Are you ready to ROCK?!" He windmills his arm around Pete Townsend style each time strumming it louder until it hurts your ears.

He grabs the handle and in one forcefuly spins it over his head and smashes it into the ground. It shatters in a burst of flame and showers the crowd with fake blood.

Rescue ... now there is an interesting word. I'll just tell the ladies that we'll try to "rescue" them 3, 4, maybe even 5 times apiece. We'll rescue them so much that they won't be able to walk the next day.
