Overwhelming force is what is needed to capture and hold cities. You can't just take a few catapults (or their later age equivalent) and expect to hold a city. The idea of assimilation is really great on several levels. When you attack just make sure you bring infantry with you.

Holy jesus, husband to mary magdalen, father of the Meriovigian line! That was fun. I think I went for 5 minutes at a time without checking my library and boy does that get you behind.
When I took on AI Hannibal, I was fairly sure the 2 of you (from your scores) were a bit ahead of me in the armoury dept, so i wanted to at least get out of last place and I succeeded at that. Once I saw Marmel's Mounted Missles it was only a matter of a few frames of animation that I was aware of my impending doom. Great stuff... looking forward to the next battle. |

Hmm, I think it tries to install it when you install the game but I chose not to. I'll have to install it (the gamespy MP software stuff) and try another night since I know I can't play tonight. I'll prob get the XP tomorrow anyways Last edited by Chubby : 05-27-2004 at 11:42 PM. |

Yeah I did have a similar problem. Once I went ahead and just downloaded the gamespy, everything worked out fine. Although we usually connect by IP so I don't know if Gamespy really has much to do with that.

Is that the Gamespy Arcade? I already have something set up, but I haven't even looked into that. Once I get to a stopping point in my other programs, I will try and load up multiplayer and see if I need to do anything.

Two totally kick ass games tonight. Neuq and I had a battle for the ages, wiping out probably a thousand troops on each side, and lasting for 30 minutes of non-stop straight action. I finally marched around to the other side of his capital and then sent another army to the front of his capital and took it from both sides.
Raven and Chief are doing well in their first tries.

It really was a battle of the ages. It looked like my guys were going to get wiped out within minutes but my guys ended up putting up one heck of a fight. Marm's right, ATLEAST a thousand troups had to have died there. All the while Chief and Raven were basically just growing larger and larger, wondering why there was no action taking place

very fun couple of games.
the first round, Chief and I were both rookies. Marmel and Neuq battled it out while I just sat around and built up my forces. Neuq and I had an alliance, but Marmel was attacking him with tanks and planes, and I knew my horse and buggies weren't goign to do much damage there. The second game, Marmel and I had an alliance. I was concentrating on building up my techs, and him and Neuq got in to another huge war. This time I decided to make an attempt to take one of Neuq's cities, and he cleaned my slate. I was knocked out soon after that. Those guys build up pretty quick and it's tough to keep up with them after an hour or so, but it's still a lot of fun. Looking forward to our next couple of games, and highly recommend it to those interested. If we can get a game with 6-8 players, I think it will be a real blast. |

Raven is on dialup and I do not think he suffered through any game ending problems, I say give it a shot. Chubby: Usually we just set it out to Random and then play with whatever the AI gives us.

We usually play with 2 house rules
1) No nukes. However, we have relaxed the rules for rookie players and will allow them nukes if they so choose. Once you get the hang of the game though, that advantage is gone. 2) No attacking a human player until 1 AI nation is eliminated. If we get 5 or 6 human players at once, we might have to scrap this rule since we won't need AI nations.

I suck at this game single-player (though I've only played 4 or 5 times), but I'd be willing to get into a multiplayer game.

Another game starting in 5 minutes or so for any late entries.
