Sorry to interrupt to ask stupid questions. I have been on the Practice range for a while getting a feel for the differences. I use 3-clicks and it took me a while to understand the "E" button since the game does not give you a flight arrow. I figured out, on chips, to adjust the landing spot but even hitting it perfectly, it's not where I chose the landing spot to be. When you pull back or forward, where is the landing spot in the view?

Also, I cannot figure out how to putt. I see no indication whatsoever as to the "landing" spot of a putt. How do you tell? I mean, if the hole is 43 feet away, how can I tell how hard to it? In others games, full strength would always mean the distance to the hole after you adjust the length arrow. In the practice green, I hit it normally and it goes by the hole 30 feet.

Anrhy, there are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

I don't use the 3-click, so I don't know about that. However, in the 'true swing' any shot close to the green is like a real life shot, where there is no line to look at or a meter to measure off of. It is a feel thing that you must practice for break and distance or how far back you pull the club and how fast you follow through.

I don't know what skill level you have, but at low skill levels, chipping and putting are a bitch, but get much easier as the skill # rises.

Thanks, I started messing around with a Career and beginning to see what you are saying. I think it's the same whether you use 3-clicks or TrueSwing, you just have to get a feel for it. I think it is more realistic, yet challenging this way.

By the way, the one challenge I did do was a Skills Challenge where you have to do about 9 different things. It was close, I lost 4, won 3 and tied 2 despite not having much skills but yet lost the whole purse.

I got it today at EB (used) for $7. Works great. I love the TrueShot, but it takes a bit of getting used to. But I'm hitting the ball much better than with the 3-click.

I use the TruShot, also. It is much more natural and is easier to control. When I screw up a shot I feel it is my fault and don't blame the computer for 'misinterpreting' my mouse click.

Ryan...Bring it on.

With our bank account swelling a bit, we decide to round out our iron collection.

For $150 each, T.E. purchases a 1-iron and a 2-iron.

I'm getting the hang of judging distance by practicing with TrueSwing to get a feel for hit pct.

By the way, I never really noticed it before but in this game (and in JN6 which I just checked), there is no graphics for roughs. I pulled up St Andrews just for the heck of it and it was horrible looking (like a patchwork of brown astroturf). Kind of takes all of the fun of playing that course. Courses like Augusta, on the other hand, looks great since it is nothing but trees, grass and flowers.

Re: Quick Skins

DAMN! DAMN! DAMN YOU ALMIGHTY!!! I wanted to buy this game only when it would drop to bargain bin price, now I HAVE TO GET IT!!! This career thing sounded cool when I first read about it, now it's something I have to try out!

I already have TW2002, it was just a matter of time until I'd get TW2003, well seems like the time is now...

thealmighty, very good writeup, very entertaining. My favorite funniest/most real moment so far:

Anrhy, that is, unfortunately, very true. If you look closely, you can see a slight difference in color between the fairway and the 2 cuts of rough (usually).

FrogMan, thanks for reading and the comments. sabotai got the game for only $7, used, at EB, though I don't know the deal in Canada, obviously.

BTW, TW2004 is set to come out in October.

A patchwork of brown is what a real Scottish links course is supposed to look like. If St. Andrews was green and lush the Scots would refuse to play it because it looks like a sopping wet Yank target course.

Kevin, that's true except in the game, it all looks like dirt (or a dirty indoor/outdoor carpet) with nothing growing, borse or otherwise.

I saw that there's an EB in Quebec City, never knew there was one until last week. They had it at two different price, 34.50$cdn and 28.75 $cdn. Looked like the same game but the 28.75$ one wasn't wrapped the same way. Maybe that was a used one. 25 vs 30 for a used one isn't a very good deal, imo... FYI, 34.50$cdn = 24.91$us, and 25$cdn = 20.76$us, not that big a deal, but not planned in our budget right now, especially since I got TW2002 about three months ago in a bargain bundle We do run a very tight ship. I'll see if I don't have a few rolls of quarters I could exchange for that game

Keep the dynasty going!

Where are you at in regards to ranking, status or whatever. It looks like you are playing against poor competition and still only 9 hole tournaments. With $50k in earnings, where do you go from here?

No Competition

We decided to max out our attributes in order to move on. There was not any competition in the 9-hole tournaments. It is not necessary to show improvement when you can win everything and barely break par.

Stat Was Now
Power 25 25
Accuracy 25 25
Recovery 20 25
Dist. Cont. 25 25
Putting 25 25

Money Spent: $500

Now we are eligible to go to Q- School. We have one more stroke tournament we have played that needs reporting, then it will be time to attempt to qualify for the next level and see where we REALLY stand in terms of skill level.

It appears you could have done this earlier, was there a game function that prevented you from doing so? I obviously haven't got that far yet in my career (still on Jan 1) but I wondering the pace of this career, whether it will give me the satisfaction of earning and learning my way up instead of power leveling.

As soon as you get enough money to buy your way up to max on all attributes, you can go to the qualify tourney. Therefore, at amateur level, it can be done VERY fast as you only need to make $7500 to have the $$ to max out (and competition obviosly sucks big time.)

I chose to take my time rather than just 'breeze' on through as I, of course, could have. I am in no hurry to beat 'the snot' out of Tiger. His time will come .

p.s.- q-school should be easy, too, I think. I am hoping the next level is tougher. Plus, I believe an attribute point costs $1k, so to max out you will need to earn at least $125k (5x25) which, I am guessing, is not so easy. We will see very soon.

Next level is 1k per attribute. The Tour level is 5k per attribute. (I have decided to breeze through. )

I just qualified for Master myself. Attributes cost $500,000 a piece

For comparison, the tournament to qualify for master level, which I won, netted me about $6.5 mill (it was four rounds on the numbingly boring Torrey Pines Course).

I remember attributes cost $50,000 on Championship level. Don't remember before that.

Anybody in the thread played both TW2003 and PGA Champ 2000? I've found that I just can't do TruSwing in PGA - the motion just doesn't seem 'right' to me.

Is Tiger more affable to different swing types? More forgiving?

Thanks!
