It looks like a good chance of that. They play the weakest schedule I have ever seen, besides Southern Cal at the end of the season. I could see them running the table. |

#7 Rutgers Scarlet Knights (2-0) (0-0) @ #10 Iowa Hawkeyes (3-0)
In our last game against Georgia we put on a clinic, but they weren't as good as the experts initially thought and are now 4-0. This game will be our first real test of the year, so we have to keep doing what we've been doing so far this season. No turnovers, good running attack, good defense, those are they keys to the game. This Game will be the Game of the Week nationally. Herbstreit picked Iowa to win, while Corso disagreed and chose the Scarlet Knights in a close one. Post Game Coach's Thoughts
You can't really get a good picture of how badly we performed in this game based on the score alone. We were very lucky that we got an interception on the 1st play from scrimmage to set up our 1st TD, and then our defense played ok. Our offense wasn't spectacular, as we had no running game what so ever until the 4th quarter. Offense: We did somethings nicely, but we had 3 turnovers, we we never got into a good run-pass rhythm. Facyson is not the same running back he was last year. Herron did a nice job of scrambling when he needed to, to pick up a couple 1st downs. Defense: We did a good job forcing turnovers, but I think our DBs got a little over agressive on a couple plays where instead of trying to make the safe play, they went for the pick, and allowed the Iowa receivers to catch the ball. Our Dline had some trouble getting pressure on the QB by themselves, but we were able to apply pressure with the blitz. Once again we had some trouble when Iowa used the option attack. Special Teams: We made quality plays and the 1 FG we missed was a tough 51 yarder into the wind. Grades QB: B RB: C- WR: B TE: B+ OL: B+ DL: B LB: A DB: B Sp. Teams: B |

Here we go with a rematch of last year's Fiesta Bowl. We're going to have to play the best game we can, run the ball well, force alot of turnovers, and not give up the big play. Post Game Coach's Thoughts
We got the monkey off of our back from last year's Fiesta Bowl and put us in great position as we start our conference clate next week. We were fundamentally sound for the most part, and got some key turnovers at the right time. Offense: We finally got our running game back on track, in a game that I didn't think it would happen in. Harron did a great job of scrambling when necessary. Facyson ran the ball well off tackles, and we found a variety of targets in the passing game. Defense: I won't say that we played badly, but we didn't play great either. We had trouble pressuring Oklahoma's QB all day, and we gave up a few big plays through the air, but when it came down to it, we got timely turnovers, especially Maximus Meridius' 2nd quarter INT in the end zone. Special Teams: Nothing awful, but nothing great either. Apollo's missed FG was just one of those bad bounces that happen sometime, as the ball bouncd off the insie of the right goal post and out. Postgame Coach's Thoughts
We didn't come out sharp in the 1st half, but we regrouped in the 2nd half and put together a quality effort in the win. The injury to Facyson is a big hit to our program. We'll use Dan York as the starting HB for the next 3 games with Seymour Molina being the backup, Chris Dodd will be the emergency guy. We shouldn't have to use either of the 2 HBs we are redshirting if there are no more injuries the rest of the year. Offense: We ran the ball pretty effectively, better than we were against Iowa and Georgia at least. We didn't do alot thru the air, but we did some stuff. The OLine had a real bad week. Defensive: We did a good job slowing down their receivers for the most part, but we struggled at times too. Vick did a real number on us with some of the option plays they ran, and we had a tough time pressuring the QB. Special Teams: We did what we had to do in the win. We had 1 punt go out of bounds a little before we wanted to do, but it just gives our guys something to work on. Grades QB: B- RB: A WR: B TE: B+ OL: C- DL: B- LB: B+ DB: B Sp. Teams: B |

Post Game Coach's Thoughts
We put up a really good effort, probably our best of the season and we did everything we had to do. We had a couple big plays, a great defensive performance by Tyson Williams, a couple timely turnovers and we didn't make too many mental errors. Offense: Dan York stepped up well in his 1st game as the starting HB, he put up some good, consistent yardage. We got some good big plays from a bunch of people and we held onto the ball for the most part. We will have to work on holding onto the ball better tho as we gave the ball up twice on fumbles. Defensive: Tyson Williams led the defensive line in a great performance. We shut down the run game, put great pressure on the QB and forced a ton of turnovers. We did give up a couple big plays, especially to Raysawn Bolden, but we kept the Mountaineers off the scoreboard all day, save for 1 FG. Special Teams: 3 FGs in one game is probably the most we've had in the 3 and a half years of this dynasty. We did an ok job punting, but we need to get down on coverage better to keep punts from going into the endzone, and we need to work on our directional kicking. You control your own destiny. If you win out, you're in the championship.
Also, when you do your post-game thoughts, what I'd like to see a bit more of is how you personally did mashing the buttons. What kinds of plays did you call. When you throw an interception, did your QB screw up or did you make a bad read. Did the AI do things on offense or defense that confused you? What kind of plays did you run that you found that worked (for instance I noticed a game or two ago you had a 80 yard pass to your fullback- how did that happen?). Anyway, I enjoy this diary a lot even though my alter ego is buried in the UT depth chart. |

I will try to get more indepth on what happened during the game. In general, most of the interceptions I throw are bad reads. I try to force the ball to a specific player and the opponent just jumps up and picks it off. The 80 yard pass came out of the I Form-Normal, on an Outs play, and we just found the FB on short yardage and he ran away from the defenders. |

#4 Rutgers Scarlet Knights (6-0/2-0) @ #68 Pittsburgh Panthers (2-4/0-0)
This is the 2nd game we will play without our starting HB, Markis Facyson. Last week Dan York and Mike Ritschel stepped up, and really put up a quality effort, hopefully they can continue that this week. If we stay focused and just play our game we will win. This game will have regional TV coverage and we are the announcers pick to win. Postgame Coach's Thoughts
For the 1st 3 quarters, Pittsburgh played nip and tuck football with us and we were really lucky that we didn't lose. We got 2 key interceptions in the endzone at the end of the half which allowed us to run a few quick plays to set up a FG at the end of the half, and another INT in the endzone in the 3rd quarter , right before York's 80 yard TD run which basically broke the game right open. The 2 INTs thrown, the 1st was a bad read, and the 2nd was just great coverage by Pittsburgh. Offense: We ran the ball great today. We had 2 huge runs which were set up by great blocks. One was a HB Draw out of the Ace Bunch formation and the other was a Counter Lead out of the I formation Normal, after motioning John Galt over. When we passed the ball, we had a real tough day with drops, but we did enough thru the air to keep Pitt's D honest. The OLine did a real good job of protecting Herron. Herron did suffer a minor chest injury in the 4th quarter tho, but he only missed one series. Defense: Our pass D continues to suffer as we gave up a ton of yardage thru the air, and we we're lucky that we got inteceptions at the right time. Tyson Williams has played just great football the last 2 weeks, racking up 11 sacks in the 2 games combined. Defending the run was not an issue at all today. Special Teams: We had a great kick return effort, but we had some trouble in the kicking game. We missed an extra point, which is really dissapointing, and we missed a FG that we should have made but we just bad controller action. Grades QB B- RB: A WR: B+ TE: A OL: A- DL: A LB: B+ DB: C Sp. Post Game Coach's Thoughts
Our offense got off to a slow start, but as the game moved along, we got into a rhythm and were able to put together a good balanced attack. We had several big plays; Molina's TD run out of the 2 TE I formation, he went off tackle, had some good blocking early, pushed a defender away early with a stiff arm, and juked some defenders out near the end of the run. Galt's KR TD was set up beautifully by patience in waiting for holes to open upfield and quality blocking. Galt's athleticism allowed him to run away from the Temple defenders once he was in the open field. Herron's injury is a big loss. We're without him for the rest of the year, so we have to do a real good job of keeping Spencer healthy. Spencer isn't the pure athlete that Herron is, but he's got decent wheels, can make all the throws, and is pretty accurate. Offense: We didn't throw the ball much, but we did some nice stuff in the passing game. We ran the ball very effectively and we moved the chains most of the game. Markis Facyson will be back next week, which gives us another offensive weapon to use. I was really pleased with the wa the OLine played this week. Defense: We did a good job of shutting down the Temple spread offense. We forced some turnovers late, including a pick by Gant in the endzone with less than 2 minuts left, we contained their passing attack and we limited the run game, for the most part. Special Teams: We had one great kick return, a couple real good punt returns and we kicked 3 FGs. We did miss a 45 yarder, but that was more user error as I tried to over correct for the wind on the kick. Grades QB: B RB: A WR: B TE: B- OL: A- DL: A LB: B+ DB: A Sp. Teams: A- |

Post Game Coach's Thoughts
Early on we forced key turnovers that set us up in a great spot to score some early touchdowns. We had alot of pressure on the QB most of the day and were able to contain their offense except for one drive. Brady Huff really stepped up today, forcing 2 turnovers plus adding 3 sacks. The DLine did a nice job as well and we we're really able to control the ball on offense all day. Offense: We had 5 rushing TDs and threw for 316 yards. We never really had one of the typical long runs that we usually have, but we had a couple nice long pass plays when we needed to. The OLine protected well, as 2 of the sack allowed were coverage sacks. The 2 picks we threw were just bad mistakes. One we threw the ball to Humphrey in triple coverage, and the 2nd we led Humphrey on a pass a little too much and a defender stepped up and got his hands on it. Defense: Timely turnovers were the key to this game. We we're able to get 21 points early on and then play very loose the rest of the game. Except for one drive, we really held them in check th entire game. Nate Robinson and Tyson Williams played very well on the DLine. Special Teams: We missed a 39 yard FG and failed to recover Houston's attempted onside kick in the 4th quarter. We weren't able to get a quality return all day either.
