Fish this is what went through my mind . . .
"Uh, Hi. I'm that complete stranger you had a five minute conversation with a the pub the other night. If you want to call me back we can contiune that drunken babble . . . if not, I guess I'll never hear from you again." Not the most awe inspiring of answering machine messages. Note: I did not actually leave that message

Ctown,
Did she give you her number? If the answer is yes that means she wants you call. You will get at least one date out of this. ------------------ I misspell more by 7am than most people will all day. --- Ctown-Fan says: "Fritz, a reference to [thes] designated driver, not man boobs."

C-town, you are probably better off not leaving a message, because if you really mess it up it could cost you. if you have awkward silences in the message, it will look bad. Also you don't want to have an incident that occured in Swingers with the answering machine. I am sorry to keep on bringing that movie up, but you situation is drawing several parallels from the movie. Well good luck tonight!

I got a girl's phone number one time back in college and I called her the next day.
Here is how it went...my thoughts are in parentheses: I make the call. Phone rings 3 or 4 times and I start to get nervous...finally she picks up. --------------------------------------------------- Girl: [incoherent mumbling]...Can you hold please? Me: Sure...(I am confused...I was just put on hold before she even knew who I was...Why would she do that? Should I hang up??...Getting pretty nervous here....Who would put a guy on hold like this without even knowing who I was???...She is pretty hot so I'll stick it out...she's definitely worth it...please pick up soon....WAIT... she's back...) Girl: Thank you for holding can I help you? Me: Uh...(can I help you? what the hell??)...uh...this is Chris, the guy from the bar last night. Girl: Excuse me? Me: This is Chris from last night...(oh shit, she doesn't remember me...what do I do now?)... Girl: Sir.. Me: Yes?...(Sir??...she just called me sir...what the hell is going on here?) Girl: I think you have the wrong number. This is Dominoes. Me: WHAT??? What do you mean this is Dominoes? Dominoes Girl: This is Dominoes Pizza, I think you have the wrong number... Me: Oh sorry...Thank You (I must have just dialed it wrong...I guess I was careless during the dial...I'll try again...phew..that was close) Re-Dial Dominoes Girl: Dominoes, can you hold please? ------------------------------------------------ Now that I look back on it, it was damn funny. But at the time I wanted to strangle that stupid girl for playing with my emotions like that. She gave me the damn Dominoes number. What's my point?? I don't know. In all seriousness, just call and leave a message, its not really uncouth, is it? Then, wait 24 hours (not to the minute, or else you'll become super scary psycho man really quick) and call her back. Sounds like a good strategy to me. Heck, even worked for me a few times, but then again, you know, there's always the nagging....nag...nag...nag..."Todd why do you leave your socks lying around, Todd why don't you take me out more, Todd, why do you keep me locked in this room..." Ah...I need a drink, or a doughnut. ------------------ C. Todd Mason UGA Alumni (ABJ '99) Powdered Doughnut Lover |

SO I was just watching the cartoon network and I saw something that might just work for you.
You should persue her aggressively, grab her in your arms, and tell her in a canned french accent how you will lover her for all eternity. Then kiss her madly! The key here is to follow her relentlessly. Trick the lady if need be. She will be yours, oh yes, she will be yours. ------------------ I misspell more by 7am than most people will all day. --- Ctown-Fan says: "Fritz, a reference to [the] designated driver, not man boobs."

Wil, I enjoyed you DOminoes thread. I just didn't know what to say in response w/o looking like an ass. I didn't want to kick you when you are down
This reminds me of a story that involves my bad luck with women. About a month and half ago I went to a club with some friends. Got in there and was scoping out the scene on the dancefloor. Well they were playing one of my favorite songs and I was excited, so I asked a young lady to dance with me. She said yes. I just wanted somone to dance with, I was looking for anything more, but this girl was cute. We talked for a few seconds and she said her name was Tara. I don't know what happened but she starts making out with me, and this goes on for a while, and well I was at 2nd base a little to long and it stopped, but we did dance for a little bit longer. I left, went to look for my friends. I thought, the night is long and hopefully I can have a good time. Well with a few drinks in me I become more festive. I just start dancing through the club, instead of walking through, and a cute blonde catches my eye, so I give her some eye contact, and then we start dancing, at the side of the club. We progress to the dancefloor and we are going at, it was "conjugal visit" type dancing if you know what I mean. Man, me and her were getting crazy. This was like for 30 minutes. I am like this is my lucky day. So my new friend asked me would I like to buy her a drink and I say yes, a Red Bull and Vodka I might add. I think her name was Sarah. Then she says do you want to meet my friend, and I say sure. So Sarah introduces me to her friend. Her friend was Tara, the girl I was making out with before. They compare notes and give me an evil look. I just smile and laugh, take my seat next to this one dude and proceed to tell him the story. I have all the luck don't I?

Fritz - you might want to edit that signature of yours.
"Fritz, a reference to [the] designated driver, not man boobs." I read that partial excerpt to say that as a reference to Fritz could have been meant to bring thoughts of either the DD or man boobs. In any event, I'd have called the next day and probably also not have left a message. Of course, what do I know? My wife asked me out on our first date after getting tired of waiting for me to call. Wait a second, maybe that playing hard to get stuff worked afterall. . . [This message has been edited by ibdb (edited 03-20-2001).]

Wil, I should of suggested one, what did I have to lose? Getting beat up by two girls can only add more to this story.
C-town, it is a great story, and thats what I will take from it. Almost as good as my story of me coming home real drunk from Wrigley Field last summer. In short that story involves hitchiking, threatening a driver, almost getting hit by a taxi, somehow getting on a train and traveling 40 miles, a conforntation with a train conductor, and bumping into a friend who finally took me home. That is for another time my friend.

I think we should have a witness C-town. Pick one of us and use 3-way calling. Then you can give your account, and they we can have the 3rd person tell his. Then we can learn from this occasion. It will be a benefit to us all, so what do you say?
Good Luck, man [This message has been edited by petrochile (edited 03-20-2001).]

Geeze,
why don't I just record the conversation with my digital recorder, turn it into an mp3 file and then make it avaliable on napster for free download? That would make the next step much easier if you could all dissect the nuiances of the conversation. VOYERS!!!

Man you guys are tough critics!
Anyhow, I called and left a message. 1L is also an RD/AC I can't remember which title exactly, but that means she is hard to get in touch with. I shall not be detered. BTW, Kosta. I'm not really a rookie when it comes to relationships--just to the "game." Think of me as coming off the DL after a prolonged injury. Frtiz, I'll just reinstate myself after Drew Carey tomorrow night, I will be the King of The Dutch again and it will be my right. So There!

If she doesn't phone back by the weekend, you might want to hit the bars at the weekend and write "For a cheap sexy time call ???-????" on rest room walls to retaliate for her not answering.
Just an idea. (I mean put her number on the walls, but if you're real desperate, you could put your own.) |

The Plot Thickens: Ctown Misses Return Call, Learns He Is Still In Game
Vermilion and University Circle (E-Entertainment News)- CTown's call was returned by 1l this evening, only have not to have been home when it was made. Sources confirm that the message was upbeat and did not appear to have any "what have I gotten myself into," tone to it. Ctown made a quick run for coffee at approximatly 7:45pm, before settling down to watch ED his favorite television show. Upon checking the phone messages after the program, he discovered a message from 1L during the time period of absense. Ctown was quoted as thinking, "How in the Hell did she know when I'd be gone." At 9:15 Ctown returned the call, but to no avail, 1L was gone, and he was left with the answering machine again. The game has turned into phone tag, but now 1L is it. "Phone tag can be a frustrating time," Ctown's thinks, "but at least I go a call back--this is a good sign." Just thought I'd give you an update [This message has been edited by Ctown-Fan (edited 03-21-2001).]

Ed is now the only show I make an effort to watch on televison each week. I used to watch Drew Carey as well, but that has really gone down hill this year. Basically, if you liked Northern Exposure, you will probably like Ed. The main love interest is not the same as the old rehased "Sam and Diane," gig that you see over and over. It has some base comedy but mostly is a lot more intelligent. A recent episode was an excellent interweaving of Walden and the several ongoing plots. I also thinks it really appeals to people in the post college to 40 range. I know that I have drawn a lot of parallels from my own life out of the show. A very well done program!

Evidently, I have already used up my recomended life-time dosage of lawer dating points, or something like that. Fritz, I never used to miss an episode, but this year I haven't been able to watch past the first commercial break before I go back to the computer, or pick up a book, or run screaming from the house. I have watched several discovery channel specials, a couple of soccer matches, and tried to give the XFL a fair shake. I just can't sit there because I find it really dull. Ed however, keeps me interested for the entire hour it is on. sachmo71: I called back last night and left a message, I shall try again tonight. yes, I'll let you know what happened, but I won't get too detailed.
