Our recruiting class is ranked 75th in the nation, our best class ever, and we need it, you'll see when we looka t the Senior class this year. None of my assistants leave. Our AD is satisfied with my performance. Our training facilites have shown a major jump, from 10 at the start of this career, to 28. 28 is good for 4th in the conference and will hopefully put us in a position to compete in the next few years. Code:
Our prestige is back up to 11, and our RPI of 274 was tied for my best ever, now, it is tiem to improve on that! As I look over the rest of the league it becomes clear that this is a very very difficult starting team. Here are the prestige levels of the conference: Code:
Competing in this league is a very very difficult challenge. I am hoping that the training upgrade will give me a chance to catch up. |

Recruiting begins in July, and we have FIVE scholarships available. This will be a very very difficult task on our limited budget. Making it even worse, 4 starters and our 6th man are graduating, so they are not insignifigant losses to replace. We need players at every position of course and we will shoot for one player per position.
I also have 5 freshmen. I will attempt to redshirt 2 or 3 of them to even out the load. July 2009 I look a lot more local this year, all the 3 star guys I can eval for less than $700 I do(with 1-2 schollies I am not this picky usually). I offer a scholarship sight unseen to a PG in the top #50 nationally who has average interest in me. I attack the top recruits who seem to maintain some interest throughout the early signing period. going into Training camp we take a look at the roster. Code:
Oh look at the upperclassmen. Code:
Stanfill an Chappel remain our best inside threats, and Trusty and Eberly can score inside too... freshman gilles Godin looks to be in good position to replace Stanfill at least from a scoring perspective. Freshman William Curry will be ready to replace McAlpine, and Beauregard is a good handling poing guard, Markham could actually play point too if needed. Code:
We are in ok shape defensively, our perimeter defense is much better than the interior, perhaps we should utilize the 2-3 zone more than man to man this year. Godin, Curry, and Markham(freshmen) plus Gino Fairbanks(Junior) are all redshirted to try to even out the class distribution a little bit. the game recommendations look for Derek Beauregard to be my starting point guard. I push Eberly up there for his senior year instead but I will rotate them in and out a fair amount. |

November 2009
November 16th, 2009 Texas State(0-0) at Campbell(0-0) A good start to the season in a 63-58 win. Eberly gives us 8 assists in 28 minutes, showing me that starting him is the absolute right move. Code:
November 19th, 2009 Southern(0-0) at Campbell(1-0) Southern is a very very bad team, and we beat them handily, 72-59. Trusty is again our leading scorer, Stanfill gets lots of rebounds, and all looks well so far. Beauregard didn't play well in 10 minutes as the backup PG. I switch Marceau to the 6th man, I want to get Beauregard experience but this is my year to win with all the seniors... Code:
November 22nd, 2009 High Point(0-1) at Campbell(2-0) Another game against a very low prestige team that we expect to win. The Fighting Camels don't disappoint at all, putting up 84 while only allowing 59. Henry Stanfill is the star today, leading the team in points(24), rebounds(14) and assists(5). We turned the ball over 3 times today as a team, a great performance. Code:
November 28th, 2009 Campbell(3-0) at Appalachain State(2-1) Now its time to find out if we can win a game on the road, this would be big, giving us a 4-0 start including a road win against a better prestige team. We get it too! Another huge performance, 77-60. We shoot 60% from the field, an awesome performance. Chappel is 8-9 from the field. Code:

December 2009
Recruiting is just not going well. We set our sights a bit too high early on, and we've lost the first guys we went after. We have few leads on anyone at this point. December 2nd, 2009 Central Florida(1-3) at Campbell(4-0) This team is siimply better than a prestige 11 team this year. We're going to suffer next year it looks like, all the more reason to keep winning. 76-66 win today in conference. Trusty scores 19 today, and backup Julius McDonnel pulls 13 boards, backup C Saunders gets 11(Stanfill was in foul trouble(hopefully, instead of an injury) Code:
I failed to mention, Chappel is out for the month, suspended for poor academic performance. The slacker. My starting 5 in his abscence: Stanfill McAlpine Trusty Marceau Eberly McDonnell and Beauregard are my two main guys off the bench. December 5th, 2009 Campbell(5-0) at Stetson(1-0) Stetson is one of the tougher teams in the conference, always tough to beat, espicially on the road. They do, indeed, hand us our first loss, badly, 73-46. Code:
December 9th, 2009 Troy State(4-3) at Campbell(5-1) Troy State is another very good team, and we can't match them today. Troy State 89, Camels 82. Clinton Trusty tried, giving us a great 30 point performance. But it just wasn't enough. Code:
December 16th, 2009 Mercer(3-3) at Campbell(5-2) This is the type of game we have to win to compete in this conference and improve... against a middle of the road conference foe, at home. We do hold to form and pick up a big 61-51 win. Daniel McAlpine, not known for his scoring, leads the team with 14 today, and also gives us 12 boards. Code:
December 19th, 2009 Centenary (4-5) at Campbell(6-2) Another big win today, and we for the first time ever seem to be consistantly beating the teams we are supposed to beat. It's 68-57 today. Clinton Trusty gives us 29 points and 11 boards in the win. Code:
December 23rd, 2009 Campbell(7-2) at Troy State(6-4) Troy State is 119 in the RPI, a level at which we very very rarely win. Troy State does beat us, 76-51. Trusty was absolutely shut down today. 2-17 from the field. Code:
December 26th, 2009 Samford(6-6) at Campbell(7-3) Samford is at Troy State's level of RPI, and we can't hang with them. It's 74-50 Samford. Code:
December 29th, 2009 Campbell(7-4) at Furman(5-5) We fight hard today but cannot prevail, losing 66-60 on the road. Code:
December 31st, 2009 Campbell(7-5) at The Citadel(2-8) We need a road win here to get off our losing streak. We can't get it, and look like we're entering one of those slumps that just absolutely destroy our seasons. Code:

Its a shame that Chapple has missed 9 games, he had such a great November. |

January 2010
As we get chapple back, we lose our point guard, Romeo Eberly. I'm not as worried about that, between Tony Marceau and Derek Beauregard we should be able to cover that fine. Eberly also has grade problems. We lose yet another recruit, and things look very, very bleak. We're actually forced to go out and make a bunch of new contacts, effectively starting over. January 6th, 2009 Campbell(7-6) at Mercer(4-7) We lose, 53-44. Code:
January 9th, 2009 Eastern Kentucky(9-4) at Campbell(7-7) We get a big win out of the conference to break the losing streak. Trusty scores 16, McDonnell 11 off the bench, and Marceau 11, in a close 3 point win. Code:
January 13th, 2009 Campbell(8-7) at Samford(10-8) A game I feel we have about 0 chance to win. I'm right. 60-46. Code:
We lose Tony Marceau for 45 days with a hamstring tear. January 16th, 2009 Campbell(8-8) at Belmont(8-8) We lose a tight one at Belmont, 68-64. We still have most of the worst teams in the conference left to play and I hope we can start to beat them. Playing one of them tight on the road is ok I think. Code:
January 20th, 2010 Stetson(10-3) at Campbell(8-9) Another very very difficult game to play. 59-51 loss. ARGH. Code:
After opening 2-2 in confeernce play we've lost 6 straight. January 23rd, 2009 Florida Atlantic(6-12) at CAmpbel(8-10) This is the type of game we simply must win. Fla Atlantic is 4-4 in the A-Sun though. We do pull off the big win though, all our starters put up double figure points except for McAlpine, and Stanfill gives us 20 rebounds, an awesome performance in a huge 64-56 win. Code:
January 27th, 2010 Campbell(9-10) at Fla Atlantic(6-13) Here's our chance to get bakc to .500 overall! It's a road game though.. We're 1-7 on the road this year. Make that 2-7! It's 84-73 in our favor. Clinton Trusty puts up 28 points, Chapple 27(along with 10 boards). Our freshman PG Beauregard gives us 8 assists in the solid win. Code:
That ends our January. Maybe we'll have the entire team ready to play in February?? Code:
Code:
Code:
Trusty and Chapple are solid scorers, and Stanfill is very close to averaging a double double on the year. I leave the same starting 5 for January in the lineup, Eberly is my 6th man though and will play a bunch at PG and SG. |

February 2010
We finally land two recruits!! James Dawson is a pretty good shooting SG, he can rebound well for a guard and is a decent defender as well. Code:
PG Dreher will have the best hands of anyone on the team, and a good jumper. He can't defend which is a shame. Code:
That gives me more hope for next year, we'll still have tons of work to do next year but at least we are steadily bringing in some pretty good players. February 3rd, 2010 Georgia State(6-15) at Campbell(10-10) Ga State is a high prestige team but they're not playing well this year. We are 8-0 against 200+ RPI teams, and Ga State qualifies, at 208th. We lose a close one though, and we pretty much have to beat them on the road coming up. Code:
February 6th, 2010 Jacksonville(8-10) at Campbell(10-11) Jacksonville is very weak this year, and we expect to sweep them. We're in next to last in the conference, and can secure our non-last-place goal by beating up on them. ARGH. I hate it when we pull this shit. 58-48 loss. Code:
We close out with 4 of 5 on the road, losing these home games to bad teams is just frustrating beyond belief. February 10th, 2010 Jacksonville State(10-11) at Campbell(10-12) Finally, we get a win at home. It's 70-60, in a good all around team performance. Code:
February 13th, 2010 Campbell(11-12) at Georgia State(8-16) We get another close loss, swept by an 8-16 team, 66-60 both times. Horribly annoying. Code:
January 16th, 2010 Campbell(11-13) at Coppin State(11-13) We set a new record for wins, we're up to 12-13 with an 80-72 win. Trusty scores 24, Beauregard gives us 8 assists, a good road win. February 24th, 2010 Campbell(12-13) at Jacksonville(11-13) The f****** last place team sweeps us. nothing to say. Code:
Now we're in last. February 27th, 2010 Campbell(12-14) at Jacksonville State(11-15) We get a win here, and maybe that can pull us out of last. Code:
We've got a last game on March 1st. Robert Morris(9-18) at Campbell(13-14) Can we finish .500!? 57-53! Henry Stanfill gets 16 boards in his final game. Trusty gets 20 points. McAlpine 9 boards and 4 blocks. Not a bad senior day. Code:
In March we lose one recruit, but, we get one! This guy is a pure point guard, and he might start for four straight years. Code:
Look at the As and Bs on his potential. We're going to have to go to a 2-3 zone forever though, look at that perimeter D!! But boy the guy looks like he can score. Not a bad recruiting class in the end, even if we're 2 people short on the list. |

Troy State runs over the competition, the entire tournament holds to form, no upsets at all. Samford is the runner up, and they are 21-15, interesting to see whether they'll get an NIT bid or not.
Troy State earns a #13 seed, and will play Duke. No NIT bids. Duke beats Troy State 62-53. The final four is 3 #1 seeds and a #5 seed. #1 Nationally Indiana plays #3 Illinois. #2 Oklahoma plays #14 Kansas. Kansas proves their worth, beating the #2 and #1 teams in the country to win it all! Awards clinton Trusty is 2nd team all Atlantic-Sun C Jeffrey Saunders is freshman all conference. C Henry Stanfill is 2nd team all conference. |

Ok its time to get back to this. I'm done with recruiting for the year, even with just 3 players but 5 schollies to offer. I'll just have to go hard at recruiting again next year.
We're ready to end season, but first lets look at our huge senior class: Four starters are graduating this year, 2 of them legitimate stars for the Camels, and two solid role players. First, the center. Henry Stanfill was ranked #211 coming out of high school, he was the freshman of the year in 2006, and was 2nd team all confence twice. Code:
Next up is Clinton Trusty, he onl ystarted for 3 seasons. Trusty was ranked #224 coming out of high school, trusty and stanfill were our two best recruits at the time. Code:
PF Daniel McAlpine was a 4 year starter, and was an excellent rebounder and defensive player, he is one of the very, very rare players to put up a positive +/- in a single season for Campbell, with a +0.54 in his senior year. Code:
Next is 4 year starter Romeo Eberly, he didn't start every game his senior year though. His A/T ratio got better every year, but that's something we need to improve upon at our PG slot in the future: Code:
Finally was Tony Marceau, he was a great 6th/7th man throughout his career as a Camel. Code:

Next to look at the records that fell this year.
Clinton Trusty finishes with 1229 points, 2nd all time at Campbell, he couldn't top Donald Dufour's 1484 points in only 3 years of starting. Henry Stanfill is the career leader in rebounds with 941. Daniel McAlpine is second with 701. McAlpine's 241 Offensive rebounds is #1 all time, and Stanfill's 200 is 2nd. Daniel McAlpine was our first legitimate shot blocker, he leaves with 187, while the 2nd best is only 45. That 45 though, was from freshman C Jeffrey Saunders, who will be making a run at McAlpine's record over the next few years. I click the end season button, and hope we don't end up too much worse next year. |

2010-2011 Season
The Campbell AD has voluntarily decided to upgrade the team's training facilities! These changes will take effect next year. With all of the training facility upgrades we've seen, we might actually have a legit shot at getting out of the cellar in the Atlantic Sun. Our recruiting class was ranked #124 nationally. Not bad at all. We only have 3 graduating seniors this year, but we have a signifigant amount of roster management to do... we have 8 freshmen(shoudl be a couple of walk-ons that we can just drop/ignore, but still...) None of my assistant coaches have left. Code:
I have no idea why the board is delighted with me. Even more baffling is the thought that I am supposed to come up with a .500 conference record this year. Code:
Last season was by far our best ever. With 4 seniors gone, I don't expect similar results this year, but I would hope we don't have too big a drop off. We set up our season schedule, as usual with total scrub teams. I wonder if there would be any advantage to scheduling prestige 30 teams since that's where most of our conference is? But since 6-12 is our best in conference ever, I'd rather get some wins out of conference to try to build us up a bit... In the early recruiting period, we have 3 schollies available. We are graduating Demetrius Chapple, our starting SF. Our other two grads are a reserve PG and reserve PF PF and SF are our two main need positions. Despite our needs, I target 3 centers, all of them could play PF, and one of them I could even run at SF reasonably well... Before the end of the early recruiting period, two of our centers are gone. i've branched out to a C, a PF, and a SF that I like a lot. |

Here's all of our roster views.
Code:
Dreher and Dawson are red-shirted. Code:
Offensively Godin at C, Curry at PF, Chapple SF, McDonnel/Markham, and Beauregard are our best bets probably... but that's definitely not our lineup. Godin should be a good scoring threat off the bench, we need Saunders defense and blocked shot ability... he's just a major prescence inside. Code:
Saunders, Curry, Chapple(though his Perimeter D scares me)... McDonnel and Beauregard look to be our best defenders, and that looks like our starting lineup. This is actually our deepest team ever. We're going to run a 9 man rotation, though our starters will see the bulk of the minutes. I run an inside offense, Chapple, McDonnell and Curry are my go-to guys, and I'm going to go exclusively with the 2-3 zone for now. |

November 2010
November 14th, 2010 Campbell(0-0) at Lehigh(0-0) We open the season with a loss... 86-74 to Lehigh on the road. Chapple scores 25 and looks great, but we didn't rebound at all, and the rest of the team couldn't shoot. November 17th, 2010 Elon(0-0) at Campbell(0-1) We get an 11 point win today, 72-61. It's a different story as we outrebound Elon by 7. McDonnel puts up 22, and 4 starters give us double figure points. Code:
November 21st, 2010 Campbell(1-1) at American(1-0) We drop a tough one on the road, 76-73. Chapple was a star today, giving us 29 points. PG Derek Beauregard gave us 8 assists, and seems to be a better distributor than anyone we've had yet. Saunders production is lacking though, Gilles Godin might be starting sooner than later here... Code:
Godin is a better defensive rebounder, I start Godin and make Saunders my 7th man. ... to be continued, a 6 year old is in dire need of McDonalds. |

Novmber 2010, cont
I've made a roster change, Godin is my starting C, Saunders is now my 1st man off the bench. November 27th, 2010 Campbell(1-2) at Gardner-Webb(1-3) We go to one of the worst teams in the nation, looking for a road win. We get it, but its close, 60-57. We're going to get demolished in conference play this year, I can feel it. Godin gets 7 boards, Saunders gets 4 in just 15 minutes. McDonnel and Chapple are a very good scoring duo I think. Code:
That ends our November. Code:
Code:
Chapple's point production is the first thing I notice, but after that, Beauregard has 4.3 assists/2 TO's a game... that is by far the best a Camel has done, it's not great but it's a start. Code:

December 2010
C Jeffrey Saunders is suspended for the month for poor academic performance... Also, we lose another scholarship target. I am afraid I'm coming up short in recruiting again this year... I aimed a bit too high and it hurt me. Hopefully I can pick up some good talent still. December 1st, 2010 Mercer(1-3) at Campbell(2-2) Mercer's RPI is worse than ours. Last year we were very good against teams with 200+ RPI, lets see if we can start off good this year. We put on a very solid performance, in a 78-65. We are a pretty good 3 point shooting team this year, 8-15 today. We shoot 57% overall. Chapple gives us 25 points, McDonnel 13, and reserve SF Markham got 10 points off the bench. Code:
December 4th, 2010 Campbell(3-2) at Florida Atlantic(1-4) Another team with a RPI worse than ours(ours is 304th...). We get our second straight conference win, 76-70, on the road! Gilles Godin is looking good as a starter, 13 points/12 boards today. We shoot very poorly from the floor, but 80% from the line wins it for us. Code:
Julius McDonnel is showing some prolific 3 point shooting, 20-38, 52.6% so far on the year. December 8th, 2010 Campbell(4-2) at Troy State(1-3) Our RPI rating shoots up to 262 this week. Troy State is at 230. We keep it close, but Troy State prevails, 84-78. All 5 of our starters put up double figures, 19 from Beauregard. The boards killed us though, we got outrebounded 50-35. Code:
December 11th, 2010 Savannah State(1-7) at Campbell(4-3) Savannah State is the worst team in the nation, literally. Prestige is 0. It's nice to get a blowout win on occasion, even if it is against total crap like this. 86-49 Camels. It's a blowout in every way, we shoot 60% to their 34%. We go 8-13 from 3, outrebound them by 9, 24 asssists to their 9... just a blowout. Code:
Chapple is well on his way to a record single season scoring mark for Campbell. OUr record is 460 points, which comes out to 16.4 ppg over 28 games. Chapple is averaging 20.1 so far. December 15th, 2010 Georgia State(3-5) at Campbell(5-3) Ouch, we get beat down here.. 81-50. Code:
December 22nd, 2010 Campbell(5-4) at Georgia State(5-5) Despite the records, Ga State totally outclasses us on paper, their 151 RPI is way too high for us. We keep it close today, but fall, 55-50, which isn't bad after trailing 26-15 at the half. Code:
December 25th, 2010 Jacksonville State(3-5) at Campbell(5-5) Merry Christmas... We celebrate with a win, a game we really needed to win to put up decent records in conference. It's 76-67. They shoot 57%, but turn it over a few more times than us. Also, Jacksonville State shoots 12-33 from the line, which will kill anyone. McDonnel is on fire today, with 27 points. Chapple has cooled a lot, only scoring 9 today. Code:
December 27th, 2010 Charleston Southern(2-6) at Campbell(6-5) Another crappy non-conference opponent, another win for us. 74-54, McDonnell is the star again, 21 points. Code:
That ends 2010, and we're perfectly happy with our performance so far. Code:
Code:
Code:
Godni's performance on the boards is generally much better than Saudners, I think that switch has helped us out a lot. Another note on the stats is Emanuel Perry, a PG putting up solid numbers in limited minutes... I won't try him over Beauregard because Beauregard has a 77 perimeter D rating, Perry is a very very weak defender. |

Saunders will be back on the court this month and we are at full strength again, injuries haven't been a problem for us this year either. We land two recruits this month. They aren't of the caliber of some of the guys we have been used to getting, but they aren't bad. Code:
Tilghman's perimeter D is really all that worries me, he has very good potential all over the place and I hope a redshirt season will allow him to develop his scoring skills a bunch for us. Code:
Allred won't be much of a scorer for us, but I like his rebounding and defense. January 5th, 2011 Central Florida(3-11) at Campbell(7-5) Central Florida has an RPI of 148, they have played a very, very tough schedule. They are the better team today, beating us 81-73 at our place. Code:
January 8th, 2011 Campbell(7-6) at Jacksonville(6-6) Jacksonville pulls out an 8 point win today. McDonnell was on fire and the rest of the team couldn't do squat. Code:
January 10th, 2011 Campbell(7-7) at Jacksonville State(7-7) We get the win here, a nice road win. McDonnell has turned into our star, he gives us 22 today. Godin gives us a great 15 rebounds. Code:
January 14th, 2011 Norfolk State(7-9) at Campbell(8-7) Another crappy non-conference team, another win. Code:
January 22nd, 2011 Jacksonville(9-7) at Campbell(9-7) We get one of our best wins ever today, a 91-62 drubbing of an above average conference team. We shoot 58% and outrebound them 41-34, an awesome day. Code:
January 26th, 2011 Campbell(10-7) at Mercer(4-15) Mercer is at the bottom of the Atlantic Sun, and this is our chance to move up to 6-5 in conference play. We've never won more than 6 conference games in a year, and now we have a chance to get to 6 wins with 7 games left! After all that hype, we of course choke. 68-65 Mercer. Code:
January 29th, 2011 Florida A&M(7-10) at Campbell(10-8) We blow another one here, and lose a shootout, 92-84. The 3's the thing, they shot 60%. Code:
We lost two at the end of the month that I am not happy about, but overall we are doing great, given that we lost 4 starters last year. Code:
We have a lot of games left against the teams above us... I'd really like to make the conference tournament this year. Code:

February 2011
February 5th, 2011 Stetson(9-11) at Campbell(10-9) Stetson is below us in the conference but has played a tougher schedule. We get out to an early lead, and lead 43-34 at the half. We extend it to as much as 15, 57-42. Stetson fights back and makes it 74-73 with 3 minutes left, but we hold on and win 80-77, a huge win for us. 53% from 3 helps us out, so does a 44-33 rebounding edge. Code:
Godin is big for us today, 17 points/15 boards. February 7th, 2011 Florida Atlantic(8-14) at Campbell(11-9) We won the first one vs Fla Atlantic on the road earlier this year. We pull out a 7 point win, 82-75, and we have a winning record in the Atlantic Sun! Code:
Godin was hurt in our last game, and he is out for 31 days. Saunders willl be back in for the rest of the year. Right now we are 5th in the Atlantic Sun. We coudl easily finish 3rd still, 8th isn't out of the question either. February 9th, 2011 Troy State(13-11) at Campbell(12-9) Troy state is 3rd in the conference, 128th RPI. They are a pretty solid team. It's a very tight contest, with 1:07 left it's 65-64 Troy State, but troy state hits a big 3 and they go up by 4 with 30 seconds left.. we drain a 3 right back, 68-67, 25 seconds to go. We foul, they drain the FT's and it's 70-67. We score 2 from the line, 70-69, 18 seconds to go. They hit 2 more FTs, and Chapple tries a 3 as the buzzer sounds, it's no good, and we lose 72-69. Close game! Code:
February 12th, 2011 Campbell(12-10) at Samford(14-11) Samford is 11-4 in conference play, they are playing a hard schedule. We prove again we can hang with the best teams in the conference, but, we can't win. 77-76 Samford. In overtime. We led 76-74 and a 3 point play with 25 seconds left kills us. Code:
We get a week off and then have another tough road game. February 19th, 2011 Campbell(12-11) at Stetson(10-14) Stetson is struggling at 5-10 in conference. A win here would put us back to 8-8 in conference play. We get the big road win, 60-56! Code:
We have two more conference games left. February 23rd, 2011 Campbell(13-11) at Belmont(14-12) Belmont is just behind us, I think we clinch 6th in conference play if we can pull out the win. And it's another huge road win! This is just dominance. We hold Belmont to 28% shooting, and win going away, 62-44. Code:
We have clinched .500 in conference play. A win in our final conference game would give us an awesome 10-8 conference record. A loss is still ok,we'd finish 9-9 and meet our goals. Samford(17-11) at Campbell(14-11) And that's why it would be ok to lose. Samford is #1 in the league. Their RPI has pushed into the top 100, they are 93rd. They beat us, 64-54. Code:
Chapple shoots 21 times and only managed to make 7. February 28th, 2011 campbell(14-12) at Centenary(12-14) We have two late non-conference games. A single win and we have our best overall record ever. We drop this one though, 71-62. Code:
Saunders is just such a weakness inside some games. March 2nd, 2011 Coppin State(15-12) at Campbell(14-13) Our last regular season game. Campbell 67, Coppin State 62! We will have a winning record this year, for the first time ever! Code:

We play 4 seed Central Florida in the first round of the Atlantic Sun tournament. We lost to them the only time we met earlier in the year, 81-73.
I watch the play by play for this one, this is a chance for our first Tournament agme win! First Half It's all Chappel and McDonnell early, McDonnell hits 2 3 pointers in the first 2 minutes. At the first media timeout, it's 10-4 Campbell, McDonnell has 6, Chapple 4. Central Florida goes in a run and takes an 11-10 lead, McDonnell drains another 3 minutes later to give us the lead back, it's 17-11 at the 2nd break. We go on a big run and at the 8 minute mark, we lead 25-13! We push ahead a bit more and have a big lead at the half, it's 45-28 Camels! McDonnell is dominating, he has 19 points at the half!! I quick sim the 2nd half, and they closed in a little, but didn't get it below 10 until very late. Campbell 79 Central Florida 71! Code:
Hate to stop here, but I ahve plans the rest of the day. Should finish the year tomorrow! |

We're in the conference semis, against #1 seed Samford. We lost a heartbreaker to them by 1 at their place, then by 10 at our place.
Its pretty ugly early, 10-8 with about 14 minutes left in the half. Neither team is shooting well at all(30% for each of us basically), lots of turnovers...). Campbell goes on a tear, scoring 9 straight and ?Campbell leads 19-14 with 10 minutes left in the 1st half. We go on an absolute monster run and take a 33-16 lead! The camels continue to press the advantage, and it's 43-26 Camels at the half! We are on fire, shooting 55%, backup SF Markham has 14 points, as Chapple has been in foul trouble and on the bench. We come out in the second half and stretch the lead to 23 with 17 minutes left, and its starting to look like we could actually pull the upset! Samford cuts into the lead a few times, then we push back ahead... a big Samford run makes it 66-57 with 4 minutes left, but it looks like that's just a little too late to matter. We do a great job in the free throw shooting contest that ensues with all the fouling, and we are in the Atlantic Sun finals! Code:
March 5th, 2011 (5) Campbell(17-13) vs (2) Troy State(19-11) We lost two close games to Troy State during the regular season. If we can get it together and pull the upset today, we will be going to the big dance! Campbell never has a lead in the first 20 minutes... Troy State leads by as much as 8, but we keep fighting and it's only a 3 point game at the half, 35-32. We take a 41-40 lead with 15 minuters left in the game, and it is looking like this will be a dogfight. With 3:47 left we take out biggest lead of the night, 56-51, and we have a shot here! 1:30 left and it's 56-54 Camels, we're shooting a horrid 50% from the line, this shouldn't be so hard. Chapple goes 1-2 from the line w/ 20 seconds left, Troy state then trains a 3 and it's 57-57. With 4 seconds left, Troy state fouls william Curry! Curry makes 1 out of 2, Troy State cannot score, and Campbell wins the game, 58-57!! What a game! The Campbell fighting Camels are your 2011 Atlantic Sun Champions! Code:
We have been added to the NCAA Championship Tourney as the #14 seed in the South region go camels!~ we will play ACC power Virginia, they are 25-8. Postseason Play Troy STate earns an NIT bid, and absolutely embarrasses the conference, losing 95-36 to Florida State. Samford loses to Baylor 78-69 and we are the last hope of the Atlantic Sun! March 18th, 2011 (3) Virginia vs (14) Campbell NCAA Round 1 Virginia goes ahead 13-2 early, and I turn up the sim speed... somethign happens though, and by the time the half rolls around, it's only 29-25 Virginia! We are shooting 23% to their 40%, but the saving grace apperas to be the 13 UVA fouls to only 6 from Campbell. We are making our FTs in the first half and its kept us in the game. Virginia dominates the second half though, and we fall by 20, 66-46. Code:
We lost, but we have a ton to be proud of this year. I expected this to be a rebuilding seasion, I thought 14-14 was impossible, and here we are at 18-14 with a conference tournament title under our belt. It is a very intersting final four, #1 nationally stanford makes it, and they face 10 seed Illinois. The other matchup is 9 seed Oklahoma State and 9 seed Delaware... Stanford rolls, as expected, and wins the national title. |

I have been named the Atlantic Sun coach of the year! SG Julius McDonnell is named to the 1st team all conference team. SF Demetrius Chapple is named to the 1st team all conference team. C Gilles Godin is named to the freshman all conference team. We get our final recruit. He isn't spectacular, but he is okay. Joseph Foss is a PF, and he has some potential to become a scorer, and he is an ok passer with pretty good post defense. Code:
Graduating Seniors One senior of note really. Demetrius Chapple started all four years, but he had injury issues and this year is the first year that he completed the entire season uninjured. Code:
Our other two seniors really aren't worth squat: Code:
Code:
Team Records I like to take a look at where our guys stand on various career lists... Demetrius Chapple leaves as the #4 scorer in Campbell history, that would have been so much better if he hadn't been hurt so often. Sophomore Derek Beauregard is on pace to become the all time assist leader by the time he graduates... that isnt saying much for us though. He also has a legitimate shot at becoming the all timne steals leader. I go ahead and click the end season button, hoping next year can be as good as the one that we just completed! |

2011-2012 Season
Our recruiting class is ranked 135th in the nation. That is a lot more than I expected. Our prestige shot up this year. Code:
Also, I look at our training facilities, they are up to 35, and I am really moving to a place where I can compete in this conference it appears. I schedule a couple of teams outside of the conference with higher prestige than us, but not by much... I want a slightly tougher schedule but nothing outrageous. It looks like we have two scholarships available this year. Starting SG Julius McDonnell will be graduating this year. It looks like we need a SF and a SG this year... another alternative would be to get a better all around PG to take over in 2 years when Beauregard graduates. the freshamn I've got now is ok but not a good defender. I have 3 solid top 200 recruits targeted throughout teh early signing period... two of them of course, have my scholarship offers. i lose one of them at the start of November though. |

Roster Review
Code:
Foss and Tilghman are both being redshirted this year. I need to select a SF to start where Chapple started last year, my other 4 starters returned. Code:
I love Dreher, outside of his atrocious defense. Curry and Godin both look to be solid scorers... I might run Godin at SF this year(or Curry, he has a better jumper). Code:
My defense should be okay here... my starters are all ok, not spectacular, but 50+ in most places. I am thinking that I will start Saunders, Godin, Curry, McDonnel and Beauregard. Kirkendall, Markham and Dreher will see signifigant action. |

November 2012
We will play a 2-3 zone on defense, on offense we will go inside, but are willing to shoot the 3. McDonnell and Curry are our go to guys. November 13th, 2012 American(0-0) at Campbell(0-0) We get crushed in our first game, a 73-53 loss at home. We strugle horribly, McDonnell and Curry give us only 9 points each. Saunders is our only good player, with 12 points/11 boards... Code:
November 18th, 2011 Albany(0-1) at Campbell(0-1) It's better today, but not good. Albany beats us 62-56. We are not shooting well at all, 38% today. Code:
I move Saunders to the bench, start Fairbanks at SF, and put Godin and Curryt back where they were last year, at C and PF. November 23rd, 2011 Campbell(0-2) at Lipscomb(1-3) We get out there and get the win today, 68-56. McDonnell and Curry come up big for us with 15 and 14 points. Code:
November 26th, 2011 Campbell(1-2) at Army(1-1) Another bad loss today, and we're going to have to make some adjustments it looks like. We win the rebound battle but we turn it over 24 times to their 10. That just won't do. Code:

Thanks for the comments Vic
Hopefully I can pull the team out of its slow start and make another run at it...I don't change our lineup, but I slow down the pace, trap a bit less, and use a bit less motion... I don't think we're ready for anything complicated yet. I also change the playing time to try to get our top backups on the court a bit more. November 30th, 2011 Campbell(1-3) at Florida Atlantic(0-3) We open up the conference schedule with a 62-53 road loss. McDonnell is horribly cold today, and if it wasn't for 19 points from Curry I don't think we woul dhave broken 40... Code:

December 2011
Another change... offensively Curry and Godin look like my stars on paper, even though McDonnell was such a good scorer last year. McDonnell doesn't seem to be able to handle being the primary focus. I make us a more inside based team and hope McDonnell will get kickouts for 3. Backup Center Jason Kirkendall is suspended. That doesn't hurt much, he is 3rd behind Saunders. We get our first recruit! Otto Marshall isn't the defender we wanted, and is probably more of a SG instead of a PG. He is a pretty highly ranked guy, #40 PG. Code:
We lost one recruit that we wanted, unfortunately. December 3rd, 2011 Troy State(0-4) at Campbell(1-4) They were the #2 team in the conference last year.. but they're getting hammered this year so far. We lose another one though, 70-66. I see some impreovement, McDonnell scores more with the pressure off of him. Godin and Curry both put up good numbers, but have some foul problems also. We shoot 58% and lose because of 15 turnovers. Code:
December 7th, 2011 Georgia State(3-3) at Campbell(1-5) We break into the win column in conference in a big way, 88-66 over Ga State. We shoot 65% while holding Georgia State to 38%! William Curry handles the star role well, he goes 7-11 with 20 points and 5 boards. Mcdonnell shoots 3-4 from 3... maybe i've got this team figured out now. Code:
December 4th, 2011 IPFW(1-8) at Campbell(2-5) This should be a runaway... it is a pretty easy Camel win, 80-67. Curry comes up big again with 20 points Code:
December 15th, 2011 Appalachain State(2-5) at Campbell(3-5) These guys are slightly better than we have scheduled in the past, but we think we can hang... and we do, 65-49 Camels! Curry is cold today, but just the fact that focus is down low seems to set McDonnell loose... McDonnell gives us 19 points and 3 three pointers. Code:
December 21st, 2011 Campbell(4-5) at Georgia State() A chance to sweep our conference foes occurs. Ga State's 141 RPI is a ton higher than we are usually able to deal with, but today we get the win, 71-68 on the road! McDonnell gives us 17 points, Curry 13, Godin 12 points and 12 boards, and we are looking a ton better lately! Code:
December 24th, 2011 Florida Atlantic(2-8) at Campbell(5-5) A chance for revenge, and a chance to go above .500 on the year, and we don't pass it up. It's close, 57-54. 13 points from Curry and 15 boards from Godin help seal this one for us. Code:
December 26th, 2011 Campbell(6-5) at Charleston Southern(6-4) We only get Christmas Day off before heading to Charleston Southern... we are able to get a big road win vs a winning team today, 66-58, to keep our winning streak alive. Code:
That does it for December and calander year 2011, what a way to end the month! Code:
Samford has beaten 4 top 100 RPI teams already, including Georgia Tech, they look like monsters this year in the Atlantic Sun. Code:

January 2012
I am worried about recruiting... we don't have another legitimate target right now. I start targeting all the guys that I haven't yet that haven't fallen all the way to very low interest(that are 3 star or even 2 star)... they are mainl foreign guys, who don't have scholarship offers yet. January 4th, 2012 Campbell(7-5) at Jacksonville(3-7) Our winning streak ends at 6 games, a tough 73-69 road loss today. McDonnell was a monster for us today, with 22 points on 5 threes, but Curry hurt us, 3-11 from the field, 2-6 at the line. If we hit 70% of our free throws today, we win. Code:
January 7th, 2012 Campbell(7-6) at Troy State(5-8) Troy State has improved a lot since we last met them, and they are now naer the top of the conference again... we hand them a loss at their place, 74-69! Today, we shoot 75% from the line. If we shoot 70%, we barely win. We are getting to the FT line a ton, more than our opponents, and this is becoming a very key thing for us. Code:
January 9th, 2012 Campbell(8-6) at Mercer(5-10) a 3rd straight road conference game. We're now 2-1 on this road streak after a 66-60 victory! McDonnell is big, 15 points despite 1-6 from the 3, and Godin is becoming quite the rebounder. Also, harping on FTs even more, I love having a point guard that can shoot free throws. 10-10 from beauregard today. Code:
January 11th, 2012 Campbell(9-6) at Jacksonville State(8-8) 3 road games in 5 days, 4 road games in a row... ouch. this is a pretty solid Jacksonville State team, and they drop us 71-62. Code:
January 14th, 2012 Campbell(9-7) at Samford(13-4) Samford has an RPI of 128, we fear them. They have lost two conference games though, so it can be done. They actually have lost their last two, and now, we make it 3 in a row for them! It's 69-62, we only shoot 42% but we outrebound them and commit less turnovers in a great win for us. Code:
January 25th, 2012 Campbell(10-7) at Stetson(5-12) Our brutal road stretch comes to an end today, this is our 7th straight road game, and our 6th straight conference road game. Amazingly, we are 4-2 in this stretch. We end the trip 4-3, which is tough to complain about really. 70-60 Stetson. Code:
That ends our January, definitely another successful month. We are a very steadily improving team i feel. Code:
The fact that we are fighting for a spot in the top half of the Atlantic Sun instead of just fighting to make the Atlantic Sun tournament is of great comfort to me. Of course, we're 4th now but 9th is just 1.5 games back. Code:
Code:
We open february with 6 home games in a row, 5 in conference... lets see 5-1 in those 6! |

February 2012
We only had two scholarships this year, for some reason I thoguht it was 3... so our recruit looks fine, and I have a lead on a few more good shooting PGs(read: can be PG/SG). We're 4th in the conference going into February, but there is a huge bunch-up between 4th and 9th. We have a nice long homestand to try to get ahead though. February 1st, 2012 Jacksonville(7-11) at Campbell(10-8) We play one of our best games ever today, totally shutting down Jacksonville in a 75-45 victory. Curry gives us 17, Godin and Saunders both put up double doubles. Code:
We temporarily move up into 3rd in the conference after our win. February 4th, 2012 Mercer(8-14) at Campbell(11-8) Another absolutely dominant performance by the Camels! 64-39 today! Code:
Continued losses by the top opposition has allowed us to now sneak into 2nd in the conference! February 6th, 2012 Samford(18-5) at Campbell(12-8) We beat them on the road earlier in the year. A sweep would be an amazing achievement, and we get it!! Samford led 57-53 with 4 minutes left, and 59-56 with 2:30 left. Samford misses the front end of a 1-and-1, then throws the ball away, allowing us to score 6 straight, and their 3 at the buzzer is off, 62-59 Camels! Code:
Godin and Curry have been quite a force inside for us here. We now sit just 1 game out of first place in the Atlantic Sun. February 8th, 2012 Stetson(7-15) at Campbell(13-8) Another home game, another win! Today it's a 64-54 victory. Our defense has really been playing great, all these teams are shooting 40% or worse on us in this home run. We're not turning it over too often either. William Curry goes for 23 in the win today. Code:
February 11th, 2012 Central Florida(13-11) at Campbell(14-8) A dangerous game today, as we could fall as far as 4th with a loss, but we keep our streak in tact, with a 72-63 win. Curry is good for 23 again today, and we outrebound Central Florida 37-26. Code:
February 13th, 2012 Lehigh(11-11) at Campbell(15-8) It's a hard fought game today, but we pull out another win, 79-75! We shoot 50%, hold them to 43%, and commit 3 less turnovers, we are playing some good ball. Code:
February 18th, 2012 Campbell(16-8) at Belmont(9-15) Belmont is the worst team in the conference, and we may just be the best, we show our might on the road with a 69-46 blowout. Belmont shot 22% today, 11-48. Code:
Samford has two road games in conference remaining. We have a home game against Jacksonville State. We are one back in the loss column. Darrel Markham is going to miss the rest of the season... he is out for 48 days with a frctured skull. I suppose with a fractured skull we should be lucky it's just 48 days. Markham has been giving us 15 minutes a game today. Markham was our 7th man but we have some pretty good shooters behind him in Dreher and Perry, we're probably ok. February 20th, 2012 Campbell(17-8) at Norfolk State(12-17) A meaningless non-conference game today. We get our 18th win of the year, 81-64. We get a strong 28 points from McDonnell today. Code:
February 22nd, 2012 Jacksonville State(13-13) at Campbell(18-8) We blow it. Our chance to win the Regular Season title... Jacksonville State 64, Campbell 63. We had 3 posessions in the last 1:30 to try to take the lead back(was 64-63 the whole time) and we failed. Code:
February 28th, 2012 Gardner Webb(9-18) at Campbell(18-9) An easy 53-35 win today. Code:
And thus ends the best month, and the best regular season, in my tenure at Campbell. Code:
Code:
We lose two of these starters next season, McDonnell and Fairbanks. I think we can replace both of them at least on the offensive end, we have some good shooters waiting in the wings. Code:
Samford never did lose again, so we were 2nd in teh conference no matter what. Code:
Our blocked shots and points allowed are awesome, and I am happy with a 67% team FT shooting percentage as well. Our RPI of 163 is easily the highest its ever been. We go into March with 19 wins, hoping for our first 20 win season. |

March 2012
We lose our #1 target recruit. I make one last scholarship offer, toa foreign PG who can shoot pretty well, pass pretty well and has solid potential defensively... hoopefully he'll sign and i'll have a full class. March 1st, 2012 (2) Campbell vs (7) Georgia State We should be heavy heavy favorites here. Georgia State commits 6 team fouls in the first 3 minutes of the game... 7 inside 3 minutes... that has to bode well for us. 12 Ga State fouls at the 13 minute mark. We're only shooting 53% from the line or else we woul dhave already iced this game... it's still 15-9 Camels. We go ice cold though, and trail 33-27 at the half. Curry has 11 for us, but we're shooting 33% from the field and 52% from the line, killer numbers. We fall down by 12 early in the 2nd half, we're still not making free throws and its killing us. Curry goes on a tear to cut the lead back to 7, and Mcdonnell sinks a 3 to make it just 46-40 with 12 minutes left. Every run we make, they counter very well.. finally with 4 minutes to go, we cut it to 4, 65-61. Campbell goes on a 6-0 run to actually take a lead, 67-65! With 26 seconds to go it's tied at 69, Beauregard travels for us, and Ga State has the chance to win it but a shot at the buzzer is no good. Overtime! Georgia State goes up 4 early in the OT, and we have no chance... 81-76 Ga State. Code:
I am terribly disappointed in our conference tournament result, but on the whole I am thrilled with the prospects of this team. Georgia State goes on to upset Troy State and Central Florida and they win the tournament. At 14-17, Georgia State gets a 16 seed and gets to face 1 seed Depaul. Samford earns a 2 seed in the NIT. Depaul beats Ga State 70-55. Samford beats LSU in round 1 of the NIT. They lose a close game, 74-72 to 3 seed Houston, to end the Atlantic Sun season. That was the first ever postseason win for our conference!! The final four pits 2 seed Arizona vs 2 seed Indiana(6/5 nationally), and the top two teams in the nation, Stanford and Kentucky, both #1 seeds. Kentucky meets Arizona in the title game, and the wildcats win the title! I am named Atlantic Sun coach of the year, for the second year in a row! |

Graduating Seniors
Our first graduate is Julius McDonnell, a key scorer on our first two winning teams ever. He shows a positive +/- over the course of his career, another first for a Camel i believe. Code:
Gino Fairbanks was a backp most of his career, but became a pretty decent starter for us this year. He was never someone we counted on, but he didn't turn it over much, and put up a solid 5 points/5 boards a game. Code:
Time to take a quick look at the team records: McDonnell graduates as the 3rd best scorer in team history, with 1203 points. Derek Beauregard will easily become the all time assist leader at Campbell next year, he is 2nd, and just needs 37 to take over the lead. McDonnell is 3rd all time in steals, but Beauregard is 4th and will likely graduate 1st. Jeffrey Saunders will have a shot to become the all time leader in blocked shots next year. He's only 30 behind the prolific Daniel McAlpine. Its time to end the season. |

Now that I have gotten into a groove and motored through a few seasons here, is there anything else that those who are reading would like to see covered? More national news, or specific team coverage like Marmel is doing for the history dynasty, anything that would make it a more enjoyable read for people. Anything I'm doing with Campbell that you'd like to see more/less of?
Thanks for reading! |

Well, the responses to that question were just so overwhelming, I had to take a couple of days off
![]() 2012-13 Season My coaching abilities have improved! I have 20 additional points to spend. I decide to improve my coaching abilities. My new attributes: Recruiting: 50 Scouting: 20 Offense: 30 Defense: 20 Our Recruiting class was ranked 108th in the nation, another solid improvement. Our training facilities are now rated 33, 3rd best in the conference! I continue to request upgrades. Our prestige is shooting upward, it's up to 25: Code:
I get no offers as a head coach, but I'm not concerned about that. No assistants leave. I am still content with my coaches so I make no changes. I am very slowly increasing my scheduling habits, the teams I go after this year are 20-25 prestige for home games, and 10-15 for road games. Recruiting Preview We have two scholarships to offer out this year. We are losing a center and a PG, Saunders and Beauregard, both get a lot of playing time. A center is very important for us to land. Other than that we want anything but a PG... There are two 3 star players with a high intrest in us. One is the #50 center.. a definite sign that we're moving up in the world. Our recruiting budget has gone up!! Perhaps that is a sign that next year we can spend more and upgrade a coach... I didn't even notice that going into the season. I make some very good strides in the early recruiting period, and I land one of my top targets! Maurice Reimer is the 224th best player in the country, the 41st best PF in the nation. I like his inside ability and his defense, he won't be a great rebounder though. Code:
I go ahead and run training camps, time for the roster overview. |

Roster Overview
Code:
Marshall, Ludwig, and Allred are all redshirted. Code:
Curry and Godin will probably be the focus of the team again this year, but I have more shooters than usual... Markham could emerge as a star this year, and Dawson and Beauregard and Perry are all good shooters in the backcourt. Code:
Beauregard, Curry and all my centers are acceptable defenders. My SG and SF defense is a bit weak... I'll run mainly a 2-3 defense this year though. My lineup: C: Godin PF: Curry SF: Dawson SG: Markham PG: Beauregard Perry, Saunders, Dreher, Tilghman will see reasonably signifigant reserve time, and Foss is the 3rd C/PF. |

November 2012
November 18th, 2012 UNC Asheville(0-0) at Campbell(0-0) We open up with a crushing defeat at home... 69-49. 1-11 shooting by Curry seems to be our downfall today. Code:
November 22nd, 2012 Alabama A&M(0-0) at Campbell(0-1) An easy win in our second game, Curry is on today with 21 points, and Godin gives me 12 boards. Code:
November 26th, 2012 Arkansas Pine-Bluff(2-0) at Campbell(1-1) Arkansas PB is actually a decent team, their prestige is up in the 30s, and, they beat us today, 69-65. The guards were horrible, 0-7 from Markham and 0-6 from Beauregard. Curry gives us 22 points, and Godin has the game of a lifetime, 18 poitns and 20 rebounds. Code:
November 30th, 2012 Campbell(1-2) at Bethune-Cookman(0-1) A bad road loss today... 80-62. Code:
that ends our November. I make some strategy adjustments. We were auto-set at a 1-3-1 zone, I fix that since we don't practice it. I slow down our motion also, and trap and press a little less. Code:

December 2012
We get our second recruit, and we have a solid class coming in next year. Code:
I really like this guy, #32 center, with a good inside game and a little jumpshot, decent hands, good rebounding potential and ok post defense, even though it won't improve much. We're done with recruiting! December 5th, 2012 Campbell(1-3) at Jacksonville State(2-1) We open up our conference schedule with a good win, 76-71 on the road. Beauregard and Curry and Markham all play solid ball today, and we force a lot of turnovers. Code:
December 8th, 2012 Mercer(2-1) at Campbell(2-3) We're on track in conference, that's for sure. It's 73-51 today, a 22 point win. Code:
December 12th, 2012 Campbell(3-3) at Mercer(2-2) We try to go 3-0 in conference today. We won by 22 at home against Mercer, we only win by 12 today on the road, we're slipping! Code:
December 15th, 2012 Campbell(4-3) at American(1-4) A 7 point win today, 25 points from Curry, and we're rolling. Code:
To be continued... |

December Continued
December 18th, 2012 Campbell(5-3) at Savannah State(3-6) We get another road win, but this is the worst team in the country, so don't get too excited. Curry puts up 30 for us today, and Beauregard seals it from the line, I seroiusly love PGs that can make free throws. Code:
December 22nd, 2012 Tennessee-Martin(5-4) at Campbell(6-3) This is another one of those average teams... They beat us by 11, ending our winning streak at 5. Curry fouls out after scoring only 2 points in 24 minutes, ouch. Code:
December 25th, 2012 Campbell(6-4) at North Carolina(6-4) One of the good teams, now that we are moving up in our conference, we don't need every non-conference game to be an easy win, and we hope to put ourselves in position to pull a big upset every couple of years. It certainly doesn't happen today, as the heels beat us by 26. Code:
December 29th, 2012 Georgia State(5-5) at Campbell(6-5) All will be well if we keep winning conference games. Georgia State is near the top of the league this year and has an RPI of 146. It's only 21-20 Campbell at the half. We trail by as much as 9 with 11 minutes to go in the game, but we claw back. A Georgia State foul + technical foul gives us a 4 point play with 2:20 to go and it's 55-53 Ga State. We take the lead 58-57 with 29 seconds left on a MArkham jumpshot, then Curry gets a steal and Dawson a dunk and we seal it, winning 60-59! Code:
That ends 2012, and we are doing quite well! Code:
Looking good! Code:
Curry is the next with a chance to set the single season scoring record. He's doing good so far. Godin is the first i've ever seen in double digit rebounds this late in the year. Code:
Code:
I love our turnover and block ratings... I really love seeing us take care of the ball so well. |

January 2013
January 3rd, 2013 Campbell(7-5) at Centenary(4-8) A team we should beat easily, and we don't do it easily, but we do beat them, 75-71. Code:
January 9th, 2013 Army(5-6) at Campbell(8-5) We hit the halfway point of the regular season with a tough home loss today, 76-74. Nothing hurts worse in a 2 point loss than looking and seeing that you shot 10-18 from the free throw line. Curry was 2-7. It was 76-74 with 2:12 to go. No one scored again. Code:
January 12th, 2012 Campbell(8-6) at Stetson(4-9) A game we just absolutely should never lose.. they were missing 3 players, 1 starter, to injuries/suspensions, but it's 66-50 Stetson. Code:
January 14th, 2013 Jacksonville(6-7) at Campbell(8-7) A very, very frustrating home loss... 68-66. 13-23 from the line on the day. sheesh. Code:
I make a lineup change. Markham moves to SF, Perry starts at SG, and Dawson becoems my 6th man. January 16th, 2013 Jacksonville State(10-4) at Campbell(8-8) ARGH. Another one posesssion loss. 78-77. We actually trailed by 18 in the first half, a valiant comeback, but we never did take the lead. Code:
January 19th, 2013 Campbell(8-9) at Troy State(10-6) We're keeping them close but we can't win. 69-64 today. Code:
January 23rd, 2013 Troy State(11-6) at Campbell(8-10) Now we're 4-4 in the conference and we need a win badly. We come through with a solid 85-77 win today. Code:
January 26th, 2013 Campbell(9-10) at Belmont(4-16) a must win against the worst team in the league. Yeah, we are having major major problems. A blowout loss, 83-57. What the hell is that. Code:
January 30th, 2013 Campbell(9-11) at William and Mary(9-13) We get the non-conference win 61-50. Code:
Thus ends a rough January. Code:
It's wide open and our goal is to be .500 in conference, so we're fine still. Code:

February 2013
We need to turn this back around, I will be very unhappy with just barely eeking out .500 in the conference... February 2nd, 2013 Campbell(10-11) at Florida Atlantic(10-8) This is a big win, as we were about even... it's a 64-46 blowout today. Code:
February 9th, 2013 Central Florida(10-9) at Campbell(11-11) We've had a week to rest, and this is our chance to get back into the top tier of the conference. We're back on the way up with this win today, 85-74! 16 boards from Godin and another 20 point performance from Curry... Code:
Godin looks like he will take Campbell's single season rebounds record, 10 a game will put him 20+ over Stanfill in 2009. Curry needs to average 20+, OR, have us go deep in the conference tournament, to break that record. Demetrius Chapple got 3 extra games in 2010 to put up 505 points on the year. Curry has 377 with 5 regular season games left. February 13th, 2013 Campbell(12-11) at Georgia State(10-11) We are currently tied for 2nd in the conference, 1 full game behind Troy State and 1 game ahead of 6th... it's tight at the top. Georgia State crushes us in this key game. Code:
February 20th, 2013 Stetson(11-12) at Campbell(12-12) A loss here drops us into the bottom half of the conference. We get blown out at home... sheesh. Code:
February 23rd, 2013 Florida Atlantic(13-12) at Campbell(12-13) We win a close one here and sweep Florida Atlantic. Code:
February 27th, 2013 William and Mary(12-17) at Campbell(13-13) Our last non-conference game before we finish up with two critical conference games. We get the win. Code:
AH-HAH. I did not notice until now.. .William and Mary has been demoted into the Atlantic Sun. Samford earned a promotion out!! Hooray for limited conference movement. Samford is 11-4 and 3rd in the Colonial Athletic Association this year. So that's a conference team we just swept! March 2nd, 2013 Campbell(14-13) at Jacksonville(11-15) There's a 4 way tie for 2nd right now, we have a shot at 2nd if we can win this game. Of course, we choke. Code:
Atlantic Sun Tournament We're the 4 seed, and we play 5 seed Stetson. Both teams are 14-14. They swept us this year, beating us handily twice. It's a blowout, in a bad bad way. Code:
6 seed Georgia State beats 1 seed Troy State to win the conference tournament. Georgia State earns a 14 seed and will play Texas in round one of the NCAA Tournament. Troy State earns a respectable 3 seed in the NIT. Troy State beats Penn State by 10 in the first round of the NIT! Texas beats Georgia State by 40. Troy State beats George Washington 71-56, and they are in the final 8 of the NIT! In the final 8, Troy State is upset by 8 seed Illinois-Chicago and that's the end of the Atlantic Sun on the year. The final four pits 8 seed Tulsa and 1 seed and #1 nationally Kentucky, and 4 seed St Johns vs 1 seed Indiana. Tulsa pulls off the major upset over Kentucky while Indiana advances. Tulsa crushes Indiana 100-80 to win the national title as an 8 seed!! Here's some of the history: Code:

William Curry is 2nd team all conference in the Atlantic Sun this year.
Gilles Godin breaks the single season rebound record with 292. The previous record was held by Henry Stanfill with 268. William Curry will have an outside chnce at becoming the team's all time leading scorer, he will need 389 points as a senior, a 13.4 ppg average if we play 29 games. Godin should become the all time leading rebounder, he will need a good average though, he needs 240 as a senior. Derek Beauregard's 337 assists is easily the best ever for a Camel. His 106 steals tops our career list too. Jeffrey Saunders breaks a team record with 200 blocks, amazing for a reserve. Graduating Seniors Derek Beauregard was, at #107, our best recruit ever I think. He had a solid career for sure! Code:
Jeffrey Saunders was a top reserve. Code:
Time to click the end of season button. It was a transition year, the first time I really upgraded my scheduling. Hopefully next year we can chase 20 wins again. |

2013-2014 Season
Our recruiting class is ranked 92nd in the nation! We have some extra money in the budget, and I sign a new assistant coach. Bud Bell has an offense rating of just 23, but defensively he's a 63. A definite upgrade over our last guy. Code:
We improved last year despite the record drop, so I'm happy. Code:
EEP! I'm not sure about those goals! With so much senior leadership, hopefully that is possible. Recruiting Preview We have 4 scholarships available this year. Graduating will be starters Darrell Markham, Giles Godin, William Curry and Emanuel Perry(and walk-on Jason Kirkendall) We have a solid center coming up, but a new Center is critical as we'll only have 1. We'll have another great freshman starting at PF, but the backups there aren't great either. SF is our weakest position now, and it isn't getting better. SG Dawson will be graduating next year, and, we have two freshmen PGs. We need one of everything but PG, but SG and SF are more important than the big men. We lose one of our main targets in the early recruiting period, and I am just hoping to land one of these top guys I'm going after here. |

Roster Review
Code:
Scott and Reimer are redshirted, I need them in there for 4 years with the lack of depth I'm looking at in my big men. Code:
Godin and Curry are looking great for their last years. Markham and DAwson will be my SF/SG this year. Perry and Dreher look great, and Marshall will probably get a lot of backup duty at SG this year. Code:
foss and Allred are acceptable backups defensively. But really, our perimeter D is weak this year, very weak. I start Godin, Curry, Dawson, Markham, and Perry. I leave the default team settings, but it's a pretty high paced agressive offense and doubleteaming defense(we have lots of high steal ratings, maybe that's a good idea). But i will not hesitate to slow things down and shoot less 3s. |

November 2013
November 17th, 2013 Appalachain State(0-0) at Campbell(0-0) We open strong, with an 82-62 win! I like what I see. 7 turnovers to 22... we shoot 54% from the FT line and 4-17 from 3, so I may be shooting way too many 3s. Code:
November 21st, 2013 Campbell(1-0) at Albany(0-0) Our first road game of the year, and we suffer an 8 point loss. I'm happy with our 3 point shooting today, so I'm not ready to push it inside just yet. Code:
November 25th, 2013 Army(2-0) at Campbell(1-1) Army was a very good team last year, an at-large NCAA team. We get a big win against a good team! It's 87-83. Curry gives us a solid 31 points today, and Markham and Perry put up 17 each. Code:
After a 4-22 3 point day, I back down the 3 point shooting a ton. November 29th, 2013 Campbell(2-1) at Auburn(0-1) We can't hang with a top division team just yet, it's 96-83 Auburn. Code:
I am happy with the Auburn game though, we didn't turn it over a ton and we kept under control. Code:

December 2013
We lose two more recruits this month, and I am in some trouble here. December 3rd, 2013 Campbell(2-2) at Binghamton(0-3) An easy road win against a horrid team, 72-53. Code:
December 6th, 2013 #24 Wake Forest(2-2) at Campbell(3-2) We lead by as much as 7 and lead throughout most of the game. Wake Forest makes a nice comeback with about 5 minutes to go and takes their first lead with 23 seconds left, 83-81. We tie it back up with just 6 seconds left in regulation, but Wake Forest inbounds and gets down court in time for a game winning 3 pointer... 86-83 Wake Forest. Code:
December 8th, 2013 Campbell(3-3) at Morris Brown(3-4) It's low scoring but we blow out this subpar team 59-39. Code:
Baad news. Gilles Godin is hurt, and will miss 41 days. December 13th, 2013 Alabama A&M(3-3) at Campbell(4-3) We get a win by 8 today, Kirkendall is just not good in place of Godin. Code:
December 18th, 2013 William & Mary(4-4) at Campbell(5-3) We open our conference schedule with a bad defeat at home, 72-67. We miss Godin. Code:
December 21st, 2013 Bethune-Cookman(5-3) at Campbell(5-4) another bad loss today... Code:
December 25th, 2013 Central Florida(5-4) at Campbell(5-5) We badly need to get some conference wins early on, with or without Godin. We get this one, 75-68 to start 1-1 in conference play. Code:
December 28th, 2013 Campbell(6-5) at Stetson(2-7) A horrible stetson team, but, we can't do it, can't win on the road. We lose bad, by 15. Code:
That ends a rough december. We are hurting badly without Godin, but I am not un-redshirting my center of the future for it. Code:
Code:
Backup PG Ludwig is out a month with an academic suspension. |

January 2014
Recruiting is going terribly, I was hoping to land one very good player and it's caused me to not be able to land anyone that I want... January 2nd, 2014 Campbell(6-6) at Tennessee-Martin(6-3) These guys were good last year, but this year we take them down on the road! Code:
January 11th, 2014 Campbell(7-6) at Belmont(6-7) Godin is at 78%, I will give him this one more day off, next game he's back in there. Unless godin could have put up 24 ponits, it wouldn't have mattered... we get crushed, 90-66. Code:
I make a bunch of changes with Godin coming back, we're going back to our slow paced inside game... January 13th, 2014 Mercer(7-9) at Campbell(7-7) We get our 2nd conference win today, 79-55, and hopefully can get back on track and get to competing for this conference title like we're supposed to be doing. Code:
December 15th, 2014 Troy State(4-12) at Campbell(8-7) We get back to .500 in conference play(3-3 now) with another big win against a bad team. Code:
January 18th, 2014 Campbell(9-7) at Florida Atlantic(10-6) Florida Atlantic is #1 in conference right now, so if we're going to compete for the title, we have to win here. We lose by 8 on the road though, and hopefully the AD will be happy with me just competing for the top half of the conference... Code:
January 25th, 2014 Jacksonville(5-11) at Campbell(9-8) Back to .500 in Atlantic Sun play again with a win over this bad team. Code:
January 29th, 2014 Jacksonville State(9-8) at Campbell(10-8) Jacksonville State is actually #2 in the Atlantic Sun right now, while we struggle with mediocrity. Ugh. This is highly frustrating. We get demolished. We're just shooting extremely poorly as a team right now. Code:
That ends a very average January. Code:
Code:
I don't know what to change... Marshall is looking pretty good for the minutes he's playing, and Dawson really isn't hitting his shots, I might get Marshall some more PT. Code:

We lose two recruits, but we finally get one. SG John Williams is ok, he has some good defensive potential and could be a consistant starter for us. Code:
We just might end up recruiting 4 shooting guards this year... this is a tough class to fill for me. February 1st, 2014 Florida Atlantic(13-7) at Campbell(10-9) We get a huge home win against the top team in conference play. Code:
Otto Marshall has a good game for us today, and Cury and Godin grab all the boards we need to give us the win(we outrebounded them 40-25) February 5th, 2014 Campbell(11-9) at Georgia State(12-8) Our 5-5 conference record is only good for 8th, if we can get just a couple of wins against the tougher teams we could shoot up though. We get a big road win today, 75-64! Code:
February 8th, 2014 Campbell(12-9) at Troy State(5-15) We absolutely have to have this road win today. UGH. GOD. Makes you want to take a flamethrower to your plants, as MattJonesforHeisman commented in one of my poker threads... we get blown the hell out, 73-42. Code:
February 12th, 2014 Campbell(12-10) at Jacksonville(6-16) We sit now at 7th in the conference, and Jacksonville is the worst team in the league. We just cannot win on the road though, falling 71-68. Code:
February 15th, 2014 Campbell(12-11) at William and Mary(11-12) Finally, another road win, and we are once again back to .500 in conference. Code:
February 19th, 2014 Campbell(13-11) at Jacksonville State(14-10) We lose at home to crap teams, and then beat the #2 team on the road... I just can't figure this team out. It's 70-66 today. Code:
February 22nd, 2014 Stetson(13-11) at Campbell(14-11) A win here and we're back in the top half of the conference... we play well and take a big win, 80-62. Curry and Godin both have big days in our win. Code:
February 26th, 2014 Georgia State(15-11) at Campbell(15-11) If we can manage a win here, we might be 3rd in the conference, and we would love to go on a late run entering the tournament. We can't do it though, as the road team wins each game in this series this year. Code:
We go into March to finish out the regular season. March 1st, 2014 Campbell(15-12) at Mercer(8-19) A win here and we could finish 4th. A loss and we might finish 7th. Mercer has nothing to play for except avoiding the 20 loss season. They just don't seem to care though, and we crush them 80-54. Code:
We end up 5th. Not bad, but we were supposed to challenge for the title. Code:
We'll get Jacksonville State first. Code:
Code:
I think the conference as a whole is slowly improving, the 6-5 vs 101-200 RPI teams is pretty solid for us really. Code:
Curry and Godin have absolutely great years for us. Perry is solid in his first and only year as a starter, and hopefully Dreher and Dawson and Marshall will be ready to go and contribute for us next year. |

March 2014
We get our second SG today, Ulysses Steffens. Steffens will probably play SF for us, he can shoot pretty well and can play inside, and has decent post and perimeter defense. Code:
I have the lead on yet another SG and he'll probably sign with us. March 6th, 2014 (4)Jacksonville State(15-13) vs (5) Campbell(16-12) We blew them out at their place, they blew us out at our place. It's ugly early, 4-2 after 5 minuets, Markham has 2 fouls, one fo their starters has 2 fouls, and we've got 4 turnovers early. We're getting outrebounded badly, and we are 1 of 5 from the free throw line, it's a miracle that it's only a 3 point game late in the first half... We tie it up before the buzzer, 27-27 at the end of the first half. We're shooting 4-10 from the line, infuriating. We're losing the rebound battle 24-15 also. 2 minuets into the 2nd half, Jacksonville State has 3 players with 3 fouls, they get a technical but we only make 2-4 from the line. We go ahead by 5 with 11:30 left in the game, but a very quick 5-0 run makes it 44-44 with 10:30 left. Perry is the man today, he has 4 threes and 14 points. 8 minutes left we score 8 in a row to go up 52-44! Jacksonvile State cuts it to 4 at one point but we hang on and prevail, 64-53! Gilles Godin gives us a double-double w/ 10 points and 13 boards for game MVP. Code:
March 7th, 2014 (1) Florida Atlantic(19-10) vs (5) Campbell(17-12) We split our season series with florida Atlantic. Curry and Godin are big for us early as we jump out to a 10-2 lead. By the 12 minute mark we've stretched the lead out to 9, 22-13. Florida Atlantic goes on a big run, in part thanks to our inability to make 2 free throws in a row, and they end up taking a 51-48 lead into the half, a very high scoring affair. It was 48 all, they drained a 3 as time expired. We play a terrible second half, Florida Atlantic slowly pulls away and beats us by 16. Code:
That ends our season, postseason stuff in a bit. |

Florida Atlantic goes on to win the Atlantic Sun tournament.
Florida Atlantic goes on to earn a 14 seed in the NCAA tournament. Central Florida is a 9 seed in the NIT, they will play Morgan State in its first round. Central Florida goes down immediately, 71-68 to morgan State. Providence beats Florida Atlantic by 17 and the Atlantic Sun is done for the year. The final four pits 1 seed Stanford(#2 nationally) against 7 seed Wake Forest, and 11 seed Arizona against 1 seed Syracuse. 11 seed Arizona advances to the finals with an upset win over the Cuse! Stanford beats Wake also. Stanford wins a slow game, 49-45, to win the national title. Stanford wins their 3rd title, tying Arizona for the most titles ever: Code:

We get our third SG recruit... they're going to have to play some SF too of course. A very poor recruiting year for us overall.
Code:
Awards William Curry is the Atlantic Sun player of the year!! We've never even had a first teamer until now I don't think. Curry, of course, is 1st team also. Gilles Godin is 2nd team all conference. All of our seniors are projected to go undrafted. Senior review Curry was a legit star for the Camels, a 4 year starter, twice named to all conference teams and a player of the year in the conference. Code:
Gilles godin started for 4 years alongside Curry, he was a great rebounder, twice averaging over 10 RPG. Code:
Darrel Markham was only a 2 yaer starter, but was very key in those two years. His 3.73 +/- as a senior was awesome for us. Code:
Emanuel Perry was a solid backup for 3 years and then a starter his senior year, averaging almost 4 assists a game. Code:
Our last senior is walk-on Jason Kirkendall Code:
Curry graduates as the leading scorer in team history: Code:
godin is now our leading rebounder in camels history: Code:
Curry graduates also as our leader in steals: Code:
That's all worth listing because it's going to be a number of years before people come along and break anymore career records most likely. I click the end season button and prepare for a major down year next year. |

2014-2015 Season
We get the #135 class in the nation coming in recruiting. I don't understand that, I don't particularily have high high hopes for any of the guys coming in. We're expected to challenge for the conference title again this year. Our training facilities have dropped just a little bit. Code:
Code:
Our RPI was as high as ever last year, so I can't be unhappy with last year's results. This is a dead end conference though, clearly, so we have to make that next step and get to where we can dominate the conference and mvoe up to a prestige 3 conference. I'm extremely proud to see that our prestige as a team has nearly tripled, from 11 to 30 in the last 5 years. |

We have 3 scholarhips available to hand out this year.
We graduate a PG, SG, and SF this year. PG Dreher and SG Dawson will see a lot of minutes, the SF is a walkon. We need to recruit a Center this year, we only have one on scholarship. We could really really use a natural SF also, perhaps 2... a Center is our prime target, after that we'll just take the best players we can that aren't SGs. We lose our top target before the end of the early signing period, a top 100 center that we thought we could land. We end up losing him to UTEP. |
