I forgot about my recruiting limitations. This season I'll be allowed to recruit to 250 miles out.

I raised ticket prices as well, we seat 41,600. Average attendance last year was 18,600. This year we've sold 15,300 season tickets.

Edit: I was way off on the seats in our stadium.

I tried hard to bring Mizzou in for a home and away series, but they declined my repeated attempts. We did land Arkansas State at home in St. Louis for week 1, but eventually were forced to accept going to Air Force in week 4.

Recruiting was kind of interesting. I went after a receiver from Perryville, MO. He's been offered a scholarship after a phone call and a visit. I doubt I pursue him more, unless he's still around after I've targeted everyone else and worn out my welcome.

A super high rated DT out of Raytown caught my attention, and I went knocking on his door. I know I didn't want to recruit a DT this year, but I'd cry if I let a talent like that go without trying.

Speaking of, a nationally ranked #81 tailback won't consider St. Louis U. because we don't offer his major. Darn academics!

The game starts with us winning the toss and electing to receive, we take the kick to the Cardinal 40, and start there. Our offense sputters, and we're forced to punt.

Ragone and company go out to play defense, but the Indians catch us flatfooted. It takes an INT in the endzone by our other corner to stop them.

We mount a small drive, thanks to 2 key run blocks by indoorsoccersim and one by nfg22. We're forced to punt again in the end. ASU takes the ball downfield and hits a FG. Ragone has been nowhere to be found as of yet.

3-0 ASU.

A pair of passes by our QB catch everyone off guard, and then indoorsoccersim creates a huge hole on a FB dive play. The FB scores from 20 yards out, and we're up, 7-3.

Feeding off that energy, Ragone intercepts a ball on the 3rd ASU offensive play.

We sputter on offense, and set up for a 45 yard FG. Our kicker hits it low, and the ASU defense blocks it!

The defense bends, but doesn't break. We allow a FG.

St. Louis 7, ASU 6.

With time running out, the Cardinal offense gains 71 yards on 4 plays, putting the ball in the endzone on a 19 yard run off tackle. No FOFCer was mentioned.

Halftime:

STL 14, ASU 6.

In the 2nd half, the defense stops the ASU opening drive, and the offense takes over on the ASU 37. The offense fumbles the ball at the goal line, and the Indians avoid disaster.

Once again, the defense forces a punt. This time the offense comes through, thanks to another key run block (KRB) by indoor.

STL 21, ASU 6.

We transition to the 4th quarter while ASU has the ball, and they move methodically down the field. It translates into a TD, and it's now 21-13.

Our 8th drive on offense doesn't net points, but the coffin corner punt gives the ball back to ASU on their own 5. Give a stoke to that punter!

Unfortunately, our defense hasn't shown the dramatic improvement we hoped for so far. ASU travels down the field at a clip of 7 plays and 95 yards for the touchdown. Fortunately, the 2 point conversion failed. However, we're only up by 2.

I'm already thinking clock management and look at the clock before kickoff. 6 minutes and change. Dang it, at best, ASU will have the ball one more time.

The bottom falls out of my dream. Our kick returner just fumbled. 1st and 10 ASU at our 19 yard line.

Ragone does his part, after his receiver makes a catch, he "assists" on the tackle. However, it's not enough, and the Indians take the lead. 26-21.

4:38 on the clock, and we try to drive downfield. Nfg22 makes a KRB, but it's not enough. I look at the clock. Dang it, get out there punt team!

Get us the ball back, defense!

Remarkably, the defense listens. Aided with a holding call, the defense forces ASU to punt. BLOCKED!!! You've got to be kidding me! I stare at the screen! Unbelievable!

KRB by indoor, and we're in with a 1 yard TD pass! Our conversion fails, but who the heck cares! We're up 27-26!

With 1:27 left in the game, ASU can't do anything. They go for it on 4th down, and fail. 3 downs and we're done!

We win!

RB General Mike didn't get in the game.

C Indoorsoccersim had 5 KRB in 12 opportunities.

G nfg22 had 2 KRB in 4 opportunities.

T JeeberD played, but apparently for only 1 play. I'll have to talk to the coach that sent him out for that one play.

CB Ragone started, but only had 1 assist. He did intercept a ball, and his receivers only caught 1 ball all day.

I totally forgot to mention we were on TV last week against Arkansas State, TV5.

This week, Marshall comes to town, and it's TV2. Nice!

Speaking of forgot to mention, I need to post our schedule.

Recruiting has been weak. Even with the expanded 200 mile radius, we're hurting for quality. We're going after a back and a couple of outside linebackers, but they're not sure things.

Marshall is in town, greeted by cool weather and rain. We're ranked #19, though week 2 ratings are funky, if I recall correctly.

We win the toss again and elect to receive. Let's go offense!

We start the first drive at our own 21, but our back fumbles on the first play. Marshall recovers, and we're already in a hurt locker. Fortunately, the defense holds them to a field goal, and we're down, 3-0.

We start the next drive on the 20. Despite a KRB by indoor, we're forced to punt. Marshall calls a fair catch at their 37. 3 and out by the defense, and we get the ball back on our own 32.

Unfortunately, we can't do anything with the football, and punt again. This time, the punt rolls out of bounds at the Marshall 30. The defense forces another 3 and out, but we take over on our 19 after a penalty on the return.

Once again, we're stuffed, this time the announcers noted that indoor was driven over to disolve a 3rd and 3 run. Indoor's collapse may have cost us a first down, as we punt on 4th and 1. Marshall takes over on their 46. Marshall would drive down field but settle for another field goal. We're down 6-0.

The first quarter would end on our kick return, which placed us at the STL 23.

End of the 1st quarter:

Marshall 6, St. Louis 0.

The offense picks up the tempo in the 2nd quarter. We gain 2 first downs with KRB by nfg22 and indoor. Unfortunately, a false start dooms us, and we punt again. Marshall takes over on their 20 this time. Fortunately, a safety intercepts a pass for us on the 2nd play and we take over on our 34.

3 and out for the St. Louis offense again, and we punt it away. Marshall starts on their 31. Ragone gets into the game with a solo tackle after his receiver gains 8 yards after the catch. The Marshall quarterback thought well enough of Ragone to throw that way again, but Ragone was ready this time. He makes his 2nd career INT in as many games. Our ball on the STL 42 (no return on the INT).

3 and out. Darn offense. A lousy punt gives Marshall the ball once again on their 31. Marshall's QB is sacked on first down and then goes deep for Ragone's man on 2nd. Ragone makes the interception!!! His 3rd INT of the year! He returns the ball a yard, and is downed at the STL 32.

Indoor tries to get the offense fired up with a KRB, but a 3 yard loss on 2nd down negates any effect he had. A good punt, however, sets Marshall up on their own 18. 3 and out goes Marshall. We take over on the STL 49. 3:36 left in the half.

We send JeeberD in at tackle, and the offense responds! He starts us off with a KRB, and we head downfield. Unfortunately, nfg22 allows a sack, and it looks like we may have to go for a field goal. I roll the dice, and we throw on 4th and 12 from the Marshall 31.

Big mistake. The pass is knocked away. But wait, what do I see? A penalty flag?! Roughing the passer! 1st and 10 on the 16, with 52 seconds on the clock! WOO!

3 plays and 3 timeouts later, we're looking at 1st and goal on the 5, with 26 seconds left in the half. No need to risk anything here. I send the kicker in and we cut the lead in half. 6-3 Marshall.

Marshall isn't done. They get a nice kick return and go deep on first down. Unbelievable!! RAGONE WITH HIS 3rd INTERCEPTION OF THE HALF!! His 12 yard return sets us up at the STL 47 yard line.

We lob one to the endzone, but it falls incomplete.

Halftime: Marshall 6, St. Louis 3.

Marshall takes the 2nd half kickoff. The return is to their 12. Ragone, with two tackles, and the defense slow them up enough to force a punt that rolls out of bounds at the STL 40.

The St. Louis offense moves the ball to the Marshall side of the field, but then we have to punt. A fair catch is called at the Thundering Herd 16 yard line. Unfortunately, Ragone's 2 two tackles on this drive wasn't enough to keep the Herd out of the endzone. The extra point puts the Herd up 13-3.

The kick goes for a touchback, and a 3 yard dive by the fullback ends the 3rd quarter.

End of the 3rd quarter:

Marshall 13, St. Louis 3.

3 and out we go, and Marshall calls another fair catch, this time on their 36. Unfortunately, Marshall drives right down the field for a touchdown. XP is good, and it's 20-3. 11:22 left in the game.

We go 3 and out again, and the weak punt gives Marshall the ball on OUR 46. The tired defense gives up another touchdown, and now we're down 27-3.

Our quarterback starts flinging the ball downfield, and somehow we are catching them. Our luck runs out, and we send the kicker out for a 46 yard FG. It misses short of the crossbar.

Ragone gets credit for one more tackle before the clock expires.

FINAL:

Marshall 27, St. Louis 3.

St. Louis won the toss and we elect to receive.

2 KRB by nfg22 were nulled by punt, which was also blocked. AF would score a TD minutes later.

3 and out, with a KRB by indoor. Punt to the AF 27. The defense bends but doesn’t break. We start on our 35.

2 KRB by nfg22 puts us over to the AF 35 to end the first quarter.

nfg22 is doing his job!

STL 0, AF 7

A KRB by indoor puts on the 2 with a first and goal. 3 plays later our fullback hammers the ball in. 7-7. Way to go offense!!

The defense was outmatched on their next drive and Air Force goes 9 plays, 85 yards on the TD drive. Where the heck are you, Ragone??

Block in the back during the kick return puts us on our own 2. 3 and out, and we punt to our own 25. Three plays later it’s 21-7. Dang it.

With 2 minutes left, we begin passing. It’s not effective and we punt again, this time to the AF 19. Ragone shows up, and makes an assist, and the half arrives.

STL 7, AF 21.

The defense holds on the opening drive. We take over on our 40. Nfg22 (2KRB) and indoor (1KRB) lead us downfield, only to have the kicker miss wide right on a FG attempt. Ragone tallies an assist, but the AF attack is too much. 28-7.

Nfg22 starts us off right with another KRB, but indoor allows a sack. We are forced to punt to the AF 37. Air Force begins driving down the field. Nestled in the game report:

AIRF 69 Craddock flattened STLS 36 Ragone to create the hole. Way to take one for the team!

AF ends the 3rd with the ball on our 43 yard line.

STL 7, AF 28.

They would hit a FG off the drive in progress and make it a 31-7 ball game. Three and out on 3 incs for the Cardinal offense. We're really not doing too well today.

They take over on the STL 43. They punt, but pin us down on our own 4.

I send the backups in. A 50 yard bomb is completed, and our kicker hits a 56 yard FG. 31-10.

We attempt an onside kick, but fail. AF would score on the ensuing drive. 38-10.

A great return! JeeberD makes a KRB on the first play. But indoor is ran around:

AIRF 37 Ebeling ran right past STLS 59 indoorsoccersim to break up the play.

We give up the ball on downs at the AF 30. AF would run the rest of the clock out.

Final:

St. Louis 10, Air Force 38.

General Mike again, for some reason, failed to get in the game. I'm quite surprised at this. I have the starter playing time set really low.

Indoorsoccersim has 11 KRB in 25 opps. He's allowed 1 sack.

Nfg22 has 9 KRB in 22 opps. He's allowed 1 sack.

JeeberD has 2 KRB in 4 opps.

Ragone has 4 INTs, allowed 5 receptions, 5 tackles, and 4 assists.

One of the starting tackles has the flu this week. It looks like JeeberD could see some extended playing time this week against Jeff City, although he won't be starting.

Cool weather and 69 degrees in St. Louis for the game today.

Jeff City wins the toss and elects to receive. Their starting quarterback receives a serious injury after throwing a pass that Ragone tipped away, but it wasn't enough to stop them. Jeff City scores, 7-0.

We answer the score with one of our own. Surprisingly, none of our FOFC linemen were called out for KRB. 7-7.

Jeff City fumbles the kick return to us, and we're in business again, this time at the Jeff City 11 yard line. We score on the next play off a sweep play. 14-7, good guys!

The first quarter would end with Jeff City in control of the ball at the STL 49 yard line.

End of the 1st quarter:

Jeff City 7, St. Louis 14.

Ragone starts the 2nd quarter with a tipped ball and a tackle. His efforts help slow the Jeff City offense. Jeff City settles for a field goal. We're now up 14-10.

The St. Louis Cardinal offense is hitting on all cylinders, and this time indoor and nfg22 flex their muscles. They both contribute 2 KRBs each. General Mike gets his first carry of the season, his 6 yard carry gives us a first and goal on the 6 yard line. We score on the next play. 21-10.

Jeff City would not be denied. They begin a march down the field. Ragone and the Cardinal defense would rise to the call, however. Ragone makes two unassisted tackles, and Jeff City settles for a field goal. 21-13.

Indoor tries to set us up for another TD, but his KRB is wasted. We end up punting after two penalties in a row. We give JC the ball back at our own 46 with just under 2 minutes to play.

Jeff City could do nothing with the ball, and their punter sends it through the endzone for a touchback. 52 seconds left on the clock.

We run out the rest of the clock, and head to the locker room for the half.

Halftime:

Jeff City 13, St. Louis 21

We have 14 first downs, 177 yards rushing, and 0 yards passing at the half.

We start the 2nd half we a good kick return, but are forced to punt shortly thereafter. Jeff City takes over on their own 29. Jeff City would mount a drive to our 31, where they would go for it on 4th and 1. We stop the option play in the backfield, and take over on our own 32.

We drive downfield, and complete our first pass of the game in progress. We stall, however, and settle for a 44 yard field goal. 24-13.

The 3rd quarter ends with Jeff City controlling the ball near midfield.

Jeff City 13, St. Louis 24.

Jeff City would score on this drive, but their 2 point conversion would fail as the pass falls incomplete. 24-19.

We get a nice kick return, but our back fumbles on the first play. Jeff City's ball on our 40. Despite a Ragone assist, Jeff City scores. The 2 point run fails, but they still maintain the lead. 25-24.

7:12 remaining.

Holding on the kick return, and we start on our 8 yard line. We're forced to punt after 4 plays instead of 3, and the nice punt rolls out of bounds at the Jeff City 25.

5:08 remaining.

Ragone would try to jar the ball free, but his two assists were not enough. Jeff City successfully plays keep away the rest of the game. We lose.

Final:

Jeff City 25, St. Louis 24.
