As much as I'd like to blame Darius Watts (and he should've caught that pass in the end zone), the Denver defense gave this game away. They were up 24-13, and they let the Raiders score two touchdowns that they had no business scoring. The Broncos didn't deserve to win this game. I disagree with Shanahan's playcalling on the final drive, too. It's like they were resigning themselves to a field goal attempt once they got inside the 30. Yes, Plummer took the shot to the end zone with Watts, but what the hell was with the running play on second down before the pass toward Watts? I know they had two timeouts when they did it, but it didn't make any sense when the Raiders were giving away the middle of the field throughout the drive. The Broncos could've taken two shots at the end zone instead of just one. If they're going to run the ball there, put Garrison Hearst in there and let him run a draw. Nobody would expect that.

I'm not glad to see the Broncos in second place now, but they can get first place back with a win against the Chargers next week. The thing that hurts most is losing to the fucking Raiders at home.

This is nothing. Doesn't even hold the quarterbacks down, really. The loss in speed is mitigated by the additional difficulty in covering receivers.

Am I the only one nostalgic for the quick kick?

I'll start the petition to include that as an option if there is a TCY 2 and it includes playcalling.

Oh man. I just realized I had Jerry Porter sitting this game. He would have given me a win this week.

Same here, although I only have two wins all season, so it doesn't really mean much to me at this point.

Well it did go through his hands. May not have been easy as other catches he has made, but you have to make that catch.

I dont understand why the Broncos didnt take the safety and free kick instead of giving the Raiders the ball at the 40 when it was 24-13.

I always love watching Shanahan lose. As a Jets fan the loss was even better for playoff reasons.

I'm in one league where I'm so stuck for receivers, I have Keary Colbert, Jerry Porter, and Ronald Curry as my starting 3. Finally a good week

If Jerry Porter schooled Champ Bailey, then what does that say about the Champ/Clinton trade?

I'm not really sure what Washington really gained out of the trade, as far as this year is concerned. Portis has had three huge games (of course, they were against Tampa Bay, Chicago, and Detroit), which just happen to be the only three games the Redskins have won. He had decent games against Dallas and Cincinnati, but really, his rushing totals are really made from those three wins. I didn't really think Portis could keep up a 5.5 YPC like he had in Denver, but he's only at 3.9 now, which doesn't look good compared to most of the league's top 20 in rushing yards. He also has only two rushing touchdowns all season so far. He's not really dominating anything, and the only reason he's gotten so many yards is because he's getting practically all of the team's carries. Yes, he's still a workhorse, but he's not getting any consistent production.

As for Champ Bailey, yes, he's had two horrible games this year, but those were really highlighted by the fact that they were nationally-televised games. Even though I'm in New Orleans, I've been lucky enough to watch the Broncos on TV a few times this year (even though I don't have DirecTV) and once live. Most of the time, Bailey has done a great job locking down the opponent's top receiver. Even if he doesn't, he's certainly got teams scared to throw his way (evidenced by the fact that the other cornerback, Kelly Herndon, is tied for the NFL lead in passes defensed).

To me, here's the difference between Portis and Bailey this year: Portis has been spectacular a couple of times and about average otherwise. Bailey has been terrible a couple of times and better than average otherwise. I think Denver has the better end of the deal by having a better than average cornerback, while Washington is trying to handle a running back who hasn't been that great this year.

Even so, I would still consider it a wash if it weren't for two things:

1. Denver has more than adequately replaced Clinton Portis.
2. Denver also got a draft pick out of the deal.

Advantage: Denver

It was lose/lose?

Though Bailey hasn't been all bad, while Droughns has been another find, and seems just as good as Portis was. I'd give the edge to Denver, because they could find the next RB.

I agree with Pumpy and I would add that inclement weather tends to favor the wideout in the wideout/cornerback matchup. In better conditions, Champ would probably have better success covering Porter.
