Life isn't fair, and when all you have to do is win and your in, that's a fiasco.

From what I'm hearing Vermont is the key to their future. If Vermont wins one of their games, Bucky might be out looking in. If all the favorites win, then you should be in.

Tonight the fiasco belongs to the Gophers who now must beat UND in the 3rd place game and hope Denver wins to secure the 1 seed at Mariucci, otherwise it looks like CC comes here for the regional.

On another note, after the game Tyler Hirsch(MN leading scorer) insists on getting a puck and has the zamboni drivers close the door then goes hard for the net and crashes into it, afterwards he gets up, skates to center ice and leaves the stick there.

Per a post on USCHO (and I'll trust that the guy has run a comprehensive set of scenarios), Wisconsin is in. So is Ohio State. The last at-large bid comes down to Colgate, Vermont, or Dartmouth.

Michigan/Ohio State should be a good CCHA Final, its nice to see that the two best teams in the conference, by far, will be playing in the title game.

The right combinations came through for Wisco, but, they also are going to be placed in a very tough regional.

There's an article on uscho saying there's two spots left: AHA tourney winner auto bid (Mercyhurst or Quinnipiac) and one bid for either Colgate, Dartmouth, or Vermont. Wisconsin and Ohio State are apparently officially in. I'm guessing the other 12 are CC, Denver, Minnesota, North Dakota... Boston College, Cornell, Michigan, New Hampshire... Harvard, Boston University, and Maine... and, of course, Bernidji State Beavers. I guess Michigan State is out. CC, Denver, Boston College and either Minnesota or Cornell are likely #1 seeds. Good God the WCHA is strong this year.

Woo. Ohio State! Gotta support the only Division I player who resides in Georgia: Dave Caruso. There will be another one suiting up for North Dakota next year.

Ah, something we both can agree on 100%! Without a doubt the best College Hockey is in the WCHA.

No idea if he's playing today or in a straitjacket, but Tyler Hirsch apparently went insane after the game last night.

Just as Cards mentioned above. Appears he was a little peeved that the Gophers were shutout.

And the committee has set off a firestorm by taking extreme advantage of their latitude in seeding to gift Denver with the easier first-round game.

Was disappointed CC lost to Denver, 1-0 but hopefully the competition of the WCHA would gear them up for a good run to the Frozen Four. As usual (or seems like), it's Michigan that stands in the way. Go Tigers.

Colgate is not going to be an easy matchup. The ECAC had a chance to get five teams into the NCAA's heading into this weekend. 'Gate was the 3rd best team in a pretty decent conference this season - they have good and sometimes great goaltending, smart defenseman, and a couple of quick, tricky forwards.

Given that CC will almost surely overlook them, could be a chance for 'Gate to get a nice victory.

Five teams? Like the WCHA did. Colgate isn't in the same league. It's like Illinois squaring off against UAB.

I'm not saying the ECAC was as good as the WCHA.

I'm saying the conference is severely underrated, and Colgate is a good hockey team that has some solid senior leadership who could pull an upset against a CC team that will probably overlook 'Gate.

I'm not really stating anything outrageous in there...

Alright alright. Like any tourney game, a certain outcome is never assured, but this CC team is damn good. Denver is equally scary.

CC is going to kick the hell out of Colgate. Have you seen them play? I haven't seen anyone in the ECAC that can beat them. Of course the whole team could come down with salmonella and then yes, Colgate could beat them.

I haven't seen any of the eastern teams. Denver is in a class by itself, imo. CC is very good as well, and has better goaltending than DU. McIlhenney is the best goalie I've seen this year.

How many times have you seen the ECAC play? ECAC teams don't blow you away with stats - they (Cornell in particular) play dominating defensive hockey. If you don't think Cornell is capable of beating CC you're crazy. McKee can beat anybody, any day, any time.

Right ... I said that. The only eastern team I've seen this year is Yale, unless you count Michigan/Mich. State (they are in the eastern time zone).

There is really no way anybody can even consider somebody other than McKee being the best goaltender in the country.

His numbers are pretty sick, I grant you that. Considering Minnesota's spiral lately, you have to like Cornell's chances of making the Frozen Four.

I still say Denver has to be the prohibitive favorite. Defending champs, plus they won both regular season and tournament titles in the toughest conference in the country. They are amazingly deep at every position. What other team has TWO goalies that fans are equally confident in?

I agree that Denver is definitely the favorite. The powerplay for Denver is just unbelievable.

Re: Goaltending, I only saw Fischer once or twice but I was not impressed. Mannino on the other hand I liked alot -- I guess I must haver just caught Fischer on bad nights.

My impressions of Fisher is that he's a little raw on form, but amazingly athletic. Mannino is more polished. Both can dominate. Denver's system puts a lot more pressure on the goalie than normal; both goalies are, imo, better than their stats.

I've seen enough to know that Colgate will NOT beat CC, I'm willing to wager too, how about you?

Cornell is going to have problems on the big sheet too, they are going to have to get off to a lead and then hold on.

I think big ice/small ice is overrated. If you can play hockey, you can play hockey.

I also don't think there's any question that the WCHA is the best conference in college hockey. CC and DU are the class of the land.

Teams are usually built for the ice they play on, Minnesota doesn't have all of those small mobile D-men for no reason.

When you look at a team like Cornell that likes to pack em in and play along the boards, it makes it more difficult to play on the big sheet. As I said above, if they can get a couple of goals on somebody, they are going to be tough to beat. If they get behind and have to open it up, they may be in trouble.

BU draws North Dakota in Wussta in the first round. Haven't seen any ND hockey this year, anyone got a quick rundown? It helps that BU is playing in Mass, though i'm not sure how much it'll help against ND. BU is coming into the NCAA's w/ absolutely NO momentum after the drubbing they took against UNH last friday. Had to be the worst game I've seen Borque play and the number 1 line played like ass also. Curry had no chance against the UNH forwards. I'd love to see a second round game between BU and BC it would be spectacular to knock those collar poppin' Eagles out of the NCAA's. But I definetly think i'm looking way too far ahead. GO BU!!

UND is a skating team, Genoway, Spirtko, Zajac and Murray are the offensive stars, though Murray has been banged up. They have big D-men and Green will take some dumb penalties at times. I'm guessing they will play Parise in nets, he likes to go to his knees and he has huge pads. They are playing well as of late and they lost Bina last weekend to a bad hit(he had surgery and a vertabrae was taken out), so, they do also have that inspiration going too.

Don't take penalties, take advantage of the PP's and you have a very good chance to win.

Here are there stats:

If that's the case we could be in trouble. We had a lot of stupid penalties last game. I think UNH scored 4 of their 5 a PP, 3 of their goals on their own PP and then scored a short hander on our PP. It was an ugly game.

UND is a hot team right now. They don't score a lot of goals, but they have quality blueliners and can really get in a team's head defensively. Zajac is real, real good. Matt Greene is the kind of huge physical defender that every team wants.

Hmmm, one of their weaknesses is not having a offensive D-man. Sure they are big and they can hit, but, that is also why they take a lot of penalties.

I like BU in this matchup.

Didn't watch any of this game, it wasn't available in my area, so, not sure what happened here. I'm sure that some will be happy that Toothpaste U was able to keep it close and will remind me of it.

BC 5 Mercyhurst 4

Watched a decent portion of this game, Mercyhurst kept it close and the goalie played out of his mind stopping 50 some shots. Mercyhurst had a few chances to tie, but just couldn't get it past the BC goalie.

On the Womens front, Harvard looks like they are in the Finals with a 4-1 lead late in the 3rd. Minnesota plays Dartmouth in a bit to see who plays Harvard for the Championship.

And what about Montoya?! Blowing a 3 goal lead?!

Half the field is set, CC and UND headed to Columbus, could be a WCHA showdown in Ohio!

Denver and UNH playing today and so is Cornell and Minnesota.
