McGwire said that there has been a problem with steroids in baseball. He refuses to name names or implicate others, but would support tougher testing measures. He then refused to answer questions on the advice of his lawyers.

And he took a couple of shots at Canseco.

Palmero, slight note...when addressing the chairman it's wise not to keep pointing at him.

BTW, McGwire did not deny using steroids. He sort of side-stepped that issue.

That whole table has taken shots at poor Jose.

Schilling is giving him a verbal beatdown.

I see that now (just in time for a break). This morning I just had the in-page screen going so I could listen. Thanks.

That is the House, not the committee. So the members of the comittee are voting, trying to finish the buisness in the House, but will also finish their committee work.

Where are you guys watching this? CSpan and CSpan2 has budget things and CourtTV is wasting their time on Scott Pederson (has there even been a more worthless high profile case).

Holy crap is McGwire coming off bad. I don't know who advised him, but he could have sidestepped all of these questions and not come off like he's got a syringe stuck in his butt.

"Steroids is bad, m'kay?"

Nice to see McGwire finally get what he's deserved all along. Other than that, this whole hearing has been bogus, and a waste of time. Hopefully Selig & Fehr actually have something to say.

A couple of the members were really embarrassing. The chick from Michigan comes to mind.

Also, they showed an old clip of Maxine Waters (D-CA) questioning Selig, and after he was talking, she said thrice, "I remind you that you're under oath!" which was really strange, and puzzled Bud because more than anything, it sounded like she just wanted to say that as if she were playing a part in "A Few Good Men"

Anyways, the interesting part to me was the review with the guy who works with the World Anti-Doping Agency. If Baseball wants to take this seriously, they should handle this like soccer does (I think?). Take two guys (randomly) right after the game and watch them piss. Maybe one of our overseas friends can correct me if I'm wrong.

I do agree with Conseco, tho. If you let baseball police itself, we'll be back in the same place a year from now. But there won't be the media attention.
