i love how people who start these threads - caring customers who are clamoring for the product - are cast aside as annoying pissants. each theory someone has (re: the delay and/or status of the game/company) is labelled a malicious rumor. perhaps if the developer were more interested in giving out even a slither of info on pertinent projects (ie, not his house that no one cares about - let's be honest here) then people would go back to discussing what's important - his games, rather than the reason why we haven't seen any games. i'm tired of this crap. i like the games this company puts out (i say "company" cuz i can separate jim the FOFC poster from jim the head of Solecismic, a company whose public relations are nonexistent), but i'm tired of being labelled a troll when i happen to theorize on something that may be far from the truth. sorry - if a company doesn't put out a game in 4 years (or however long it's been) - it's ghostware. this isn't EASports we're talking about, this is a one man operation. it's not unreasonable to even throw out notion that Solecismic might be done. if this is the way solecismic wants to run their business then they gotta take the good with the bad. if he doesn't like rumors undercutting his profits then they should get their own message board - this is a fan site unaffiliated w/ the company. like what, dude? Werewolf threads? Kodos' Hot or Not polls? at least try to keep this community topical instead of the circus it's devolved into. when are you gonna change the name of this website to "Text Sim Central"? FOF - a series that is released every 4 years or so - doesn't warrant an entire board dedicated to it (even if it's in name only). be happy that you've been able to grow this community to encapsulate more than just one series of games. solecismic is like the NFL abusing college football as a free developmental league in this regard - getting the benefit of having a message board without being officially attached to it nor paying for its upkeep. ain't that just peaches? this community is more about Marc's FM series than it is about FOF at this point, yet solecismic gets the free advertising as a result of this community's name. the world is lucky i'm not supreme ruler, cuz i wouldn't hesitate to put on my shit-kickers and kick some shit. I have to admit I see HA's point. This was not trolling at all and he was flat out ignored, if not kicked in the teeth for asking. He only asked a simple question that was fair and is that not what FOFC is about? If this guy is a troll than I'm an asshat and GWB and KJDelaney is the tag-team duo "Satan-Incarnate". Of course NYURDRMS wasn't trolling. Look at my response carefully, it was directed to him. I was saying no news was available and not to listen to trolls posting false rumors about the company. I disagree with Anthony. But we've already been there and I've long since learned there's no point trying to discuss things rationally with Anthony. He would run his gaming company differently. He's adamant about it. That's fine. I will remove the house thread. It's clear it's just annoying people. I intended it as a "look, this is something cool I'm doing that was made possible because of you, the customers." The land search, the design of just about everything in it, the endless research about construction, etc, is something I've worked on for two years now - that and the kid, who was born in 2003, were more my focus after FOF 2004. The house is very unusual, and is truly a dream house. The kid is kind of obnoxious, but that's a new experience, too. It has been 2 1/2 years, not 4, since my last product release. Before that, I had released products in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 - six in six years, and that does not count FOF 2002, which was EA's rather silly roster update that didn't even work right. I worked insanely hard for six years, and then I took two off, though I did release free updates of each game during that period which were far, far more than simple roster changes. I'm back full time now, have been for a few months. You'll just have to take my word for it. |

If anyone called the guy asking the original question a troll, I certainly missed it. I certainly didn't mean the original poster. I know nothing of him, and haven't looked up his history at all.
Many of y'all (Jim included) complained that I stickied the thread with the latest Solecismic release info given. The reason I stickied it was to give a quick and easy point of reference for people to find that information. Hmmmm....

They was I saw it, Jim was calling those responding to the original poster with the rumors trolls, not the original poster. Those responses would give the question asker the appearance that no new game was ever going to come out, so I can see why Jim would step in to clear things up. I guess the best thing would be for SkyDog to do is put a locked sticky thread at the top explaining the release policy and the limited info known about the next release.

I understand and agree (and have adamantly supported the way Sol's releases are announced since I can't stand hype and high expectations). I also wonder, however, if we'll be able to discuss this pre-release/post-release in the manner as we do all other games here - good, bad or indifference - or will this be a sacred cow controlled by locked or deleted threads? |

That's kind of the point as well. What is there to discuss, other than a game is going to be released? All we know at this point is that it will be a follow up to one of the football games. And we've got threads dealing with speculation on those out there already, so I wouldn't call it a sacred cow. People saying that Jim is retired, or will never release another game, I put those posts in the same category as those fake press releases about SI and Baseball Mogul.

I think that's the difference, I view someone making a joke post (as what GWB did) as no different than 90% of the stuff that goes on around here. I would be surprised if anyone would take that seriously. What HA said, on the other hand, could be take more seriously by others.

And Cartman has bingo.
Bucc, you need to look at the history here. I have never wanted or tried to shut down any thread discussing pros or cons about my games. You being a prime example, and I don't think you've ever even been boxed. People are overreacting here. I merely wanted to prevent a rumor from gaining traction. In the process, I realized that my home building item was causing some friction, so I removed it. |

Steve, I have found that if I don't address the ridiculous rumors, they get repeated as fact elsewhere. I thought Joe was joking at first, too, but the second post seemed to be something that might have traction with people not as familiar with his posts, or the long history of FOFC. Anthony's rants are more opinion-based. I don't agree with him and I've learned that you can't argue with him because he's always right. Just ask him. But there's nothing in there that needs addressing. |

Let me chime in with my two cents.
Contrary to beliefs, I really enjoy the FOF series, except for 2001. I think the games are VERY strong. However, never been a fan of TCY, sorry. The problem that I see is that whenever I want game information about EVERY OTHER GAME, I can come here. However I can usually never find any information about an FOF game. Whenever it is asked, the company line is "Jim will release info when it is time, AND DON'T QUESTION IT!!!" And that usually results in a series of threads that call people "trolls", "fanboys", "infidels", ect. Also, there seem to be more threads on girls, personals, death, divorce, so on and so forth. I just find that different. I guess that's why I have only posted 198 times in almost 6 years. Finally, i do enjoy the "spirited" posts from the holier than thou, self important, sh*t d*cks. Just remember, you are banging your chest on a video game chat board. Seriously, just speaking for myself, I am just waiting for a good game. Where the bugs and issues are few. With FOF, I get that. Jim G, you do good work, very good work. I would just like to see more of it. Sincerly. Last edited by KJDelaney : 06-25-2006 at 02:54 PM. |

I think that's my opinion too. I know these games and I like them. They're a couple of the text sims I've really enjoyed so I know what the company is capable of so I'd love to see more.

Thanks, Kelly.
One comment. The company line runs as follows (and it's a cut-and-paste): "Thanks for your interest. We will update our web site as soon as news about new products is available." People have questioned the policy repeatedly, and if you search the forums here, you'll find that I'm fine with it, and I've explained it. People get upset about it, I can't control that. Some, like Anthony, refuse to accept the explanation because they believe there's some nefarious reasoning behind it, like I've suddenly forgotten how to code and am hoping no one notices. So there's occasional ranting about my policy here, and that upsets people who have been through this a dozen times now and don't like it. They know that I'm not going to change the policy, and it's always the same people with the same rants trying to stir things up. |

We know you are hard at work, Jim and most of us do care about how your house was coming along and are happy for you. Don't let HA speak for everybody (even though he did get us fired up today).
But if you *did* retire, would you tell us? |

Fanboy here. I am really looking forward to the next version of FOF. After enjoying the hell out of multiplayer for the last few years, I am really looking forward to the changes that Jim implements after experiencing the fun of MP firsthand. This outlook makes me, unfortunately, highly susceptible to rumor and speculation. That's why I like reading the FOF threads (not the Front Office Curling jokes - those make me want to kill a drifter). In all honesty though - even if Jim *did* retire - I would be perfectly happy playing FOF MP in perpetuity...
