No....since it's not a change of possession, the clock doesn't not start until the ball is snapped if the kicking team recovers.

College football officials are not as good as the ones the NFL uses. In other words, they really suck.

Well, if USF gets this ruling (which they shouldn't), they were lucky the play only took three seconds. It was clean, without a big ruckus for the ball ... however, I think it's pretty clear it was before 10 yards.

How high will Rutgers be ranked if they make it to the Nov. 9th game against Louisville without a loss? That would be a huge game.

I was in the press box last week when the referee explained this one. Even with all the new changes, the onside kick isn't a change of possession like a normal kickoff where the clock starts under the new rules. So if the kicking team recovers an onside kick, the clock doesn't not start until the ball in snapped -- this is like an exception to the new clock rules.

But anywho, it was moot here. Good victory for the RU.

I know one of the reasons people keep saying that is because they're in the middle of fertile recruiting ground, but if it were that easy, wouldn't UCF be a good team by now?

Florida Atlantic is still lagging, with Howard Smellsofbourbon as the head coach.

Problem with UCF is they aren't in a major conference.

The Oct. 21 Pitt/RU game really has me excited though. With it being Homecoming and with Rutgers suddenly jumping ahead of Pitt in the conference this season, I think everyone will be really fired up. Should be one hell of a Saturday afternoon.

Didn't UCF win a conference and play in a bowl game last year?

Ironically (actually this is probably just laziness, not irony) i probably wont even make it to a home game this year. the only game i have tickest for is @ Annapolis in a couple weeks. After that perhaps the Syracsue game @ home.

I definitely can't make the bowl game as i'll be somewhere in Japan.

Last year thay beat Marshall, Directional Louisiana, Memphis, Tulane, ECU, Houston, UAB & Rice. The prior two seasons they won a combined total of three games. Not exactly the resume of 'good' team.

I think UCF has the tools to be a mid-major power. A head coach with a "brand name", a recruiting market, a good stadium.

So, how good is Rutgers? Will they be able to compete against West Virginia and Louisville?

Err... no. Perhaps Rutgers may have had a (slim) chance while Cantwell was starting, but with Brohm behind center, Rutgers gets beat bad. Same with WVU. At least 2 TDs losses in both games is my opinion.

They've been on the cusp for quite a few years. I remember in the late 90's, UCF with Daunte Culpepper went into Nebraska and scared the hell out of the Cornhuskers, who were still a national powerhouse at that time.

No, I don't think Rutgers can beat those 2, but they can win 9 games, and they are solid.

Completely agree. I think we'll get beat beat pretty handily by Louisville, and beat by a large margin by WVU - who is a full cut above anyone else in the conference right now. Still, that makes 10-2 a remote possibility... i can dream.

I've never been one to follow college football and I'm trying to make sure I watch more of it this year (even bought a few preview rags to learn about the teams). One thing watching college football has done for me is to put the officiating in the NFL into perspective.

Geez, Michigan State needs to shake their hangover from last week. They are losing to Illinois 20-10 late in the 3rd quarter.

Really, really pulling for Illinois, as it will make RU's win over them look better.

I'm listening to it on XM right now...is it on TV anywhere? Or just regional?

I've got it on a couple of different channels as part of the Sports Package on DirecTV. If you get SNY, it's showing on that station.

The Big East is 5th out of the 6 BCS Conferences, so if the BE doesn't deserve to be a major conference, the ACC sure as heck shouldn't be either.

The Big East has TWO teams in the Top 10, and 3 in the top 25. That's pretty decent if you ask me.

I think Rutgers has the most underrated running back in the nation, and I think Rutgers is on a high upswing. They may not necessarily beat Louisville or WVU this year, but watch out a few years from now.

I'm happy for them and their fans. They deserve this record, and they've earned it.

Beautiful...thanks. Of course that was the one channel I didn't bother to check.

Was Stanton's arm "indisputably" going forward? Even MSU's homer announcers seemed surprised by that call.

cue the Schmidty rant.

And should I be pissed off that my NBC affiliate stayed with the Virginia blowout of Duke (37-0) and made us miss the first quarter of the ND game? Personally, I don't particularly care either way, except that since the ND game is in HD, it looks better.
