On a separate note:

Hillybilly Hotdogs, where I bought and ate my 5 pound hamburger, has introduced the new "doublewide", a 10 pound hamburger:

It only has two pounds of pickles, 2 heads of lettuce, 2 tomatoes, 2 onions and 25 slices of cheese. For an extra few dollars, they'll make it a BACON doublewide, with 24 slices of bacon.

I think I can take it.

So I have to necro this thread in order to share with you all what I did this weekend...

A few friends from work and I got together for "BaconFest," what I hope will become an annual tradition. The rules were simple...everyone had to bring/prepare a bacon-related item, and everybody had to try at least one bite of everything.

We started with a bacon-cheese spread on crackers, followed shortly by bacondillas (my contribution...quesadillas made with bacon). The entrees were a bacon-explosion, and bacon-stuffed double cheeseburgers (topped with cheddar-bacon cheese). And then bacon-brownies for dessert.

All of the above items were good, but the bacon-explosion was the real crowd-pleaser. The guy that made it used a spicy italian sausage, and it really complemented the bacon quite well.

All in all a delicious way to spend a Saturday afternoon. First thing this morning I confirmed that everyone who attended was indeed still alive. We had the EMTs in speed-dial just in case.

Just thought I would share my bacon-explosion experience with you all.

I think Subway tried to kill me tonight...

Ok, I had something to do with it, I ordered a 12" BLT with double bacon which I believe would still be a ridiculous 12 strips, but they unleashed 24 strips total.

I think my heart stopped for a few seconds while eating it.

I'm making the bacon explosion this year. Instead of sausage, I'm going to use beef and make it more like a bacon cheeseburger roll type thing.

I heard an ad on the radio last night for a bar that had $1 pabst and $3 all you can eat bacon specials.

Hopefully they give you a newspaper to read for when your ass explodes later that evening.

This is a good idea. I made it using the sausage recipe, and it was just too much pork. Other than the really cool step of making the bacon weave, it was just inedible (to me, at least. The cats loved it.)

I think it'd be perfect with beef instead.

My friend has taken to making a bacon explosion as part of every Super Bowl now, and he gets real excited about it, and announces it weeks early and stuff.

...I don't have the heart to tell him that I'd actually just prefer a plate full of bacon (it turns out sausage and cheese aren't bacon, and when put near bacon, they detract from the baconness)

I'm surprised that it's "only" 540 calories. Then again it has 1380 mg of sodium.

I'm on a diet so I'll stick with the Grilled Double Down .

It's unhealthy, but it's not as bad as it looks. The bread was probably the unhealthiest element of a regular sandwich. I mean there is a lot of saturated fat in it, but really no sugar to speak of and a ton of protein. In fact, you could argue that the grilled one isn't a bad meal if you are working out before.

Had one yesterday. If you like original recipe KFC, you'll like the sandwich, if not, probably not so much. There are two large pieces of chicken, a little bacon and a little cheese - the chicken flavor dominates.

It would probably be better either made on your own, or at a small place where they're not rushing and take the time to put it together well...really layer on the cheese, sauce, bacon, etc.

Bacon Cheese Turtle Burger

Handmade ground beef patties, topped with sharp cheddar cheese, wrapped in a bacon weave.

The next step, add hotdogs as the heads, legs and tail.

Next - Place on an oven
rack, covered loosely with foil and baked for 20-30 minutes at 400 degrees. A little crispy, not too crunchy...just how a turtle should be, no?

seems to me like a great way to ruin good bacon! Though artistically I am amused and entertained, as long as its someone else wasting their bacon and not me.
