Show 14 features the first title defense for Kurt McDonald after his shocking upset of Sylvester Collins last time out. Satinho works a similar style to Collins, so it will be interesting to see if he can control McDonald as Collins did, while protecting his jaw the entire time. The key could be conditioning and while Collins has always been suspect in this area, Satinho is sure to be in top shape.

The undercard features huge fights for some of our young talent, especially at Middleweight, where a loss for either Akera or Akabaro sets them back in a talent laden division

UKC 14 – Anarchy in the UK

Preliminaries

LHW – Blaze Weeks (2-1) defeats Eric Dartmouth (1-1) by UD in 3 rds
Rating: Very Poor

WW – Chad Zoff (1-0) defeats Grant Capelli (0-1) by TKO in 0:28 of rd 2
Rating: Good

MW – Nick Detroit (5-1) defeats Tucker Plumm (13-10) by UD in 3 rds
Rating: Average

Main Card

HW – Reinhardt Rhett (6-2) defeats Juozas Skerla (5-2) by UD in 3 rounds
A battle of strikers, with both men working tentatively early, probing with jabs and kicks. As the round wears on Rhett slips a high kick and floors Skerla with several wicked shots. Jumping to mount, Rhett tries to finish it, but Skerla effectively neutralizes the assault and survives. In round 2 it is Skerla’s turn to stagger Rhett as a huge right hand puts him on rubbery legs, but again Skerla can not follow up effectively. With the fight very much in limbo, Rhett is busier and more accurate in the 3rd to secure the decision 29-28 on all three cards.
Rating: Good

LHW – Adrian Pascal (4-0) defeats Logan Sky (2-1) by UD in 3 rounds
Plenty of action here are Pascal was simply dominating early on, taking Sky down early in each of the first two rounds and simply dominating him. From side control Pascal had Sky in trouble twice, but chose to go for full mount, where Sky was much more successful defending himself. Looking as he was coasting to a surprisingly easy win, Pascal suddenly ate a huge hook and hit the deck in round three. Jumping to mount, Sky was overzealous and allowed Pascal to regain his feet, where he promptly dropped in a second time with a barrage of punches. Diving on top of Pascal with a leaping punch, Sky could not find the sweet spot and Pascal hung on to take an exciting decision 29-26 on all three cards after dominating the first 2 rounds.
Rating: Great

WW – Gregory O’Hara (5-0) defeats Bret Clement (4-1) by submission in 4:50 of round 3
O’Hara’s strength was on clear display in this match as he took Clement down with ease in every round, though the first round did not feature much action once on the mat. Things changed quickly in the 2nd stanza as O’Hara unleashed a torrent of elbows that had clement bleeding by the time the round expired. Heading into the third O’Hara had a comfortable lead, but he had no interest in coasting as he again took Clement down on went for the finish. Clement, but a second time, looked to be on his way to surviving, but gave up his back trying to roll O’Hara and was forced to submit to a Rear Naked Choke with just 10 seconds to go.
Rating: Great

MW – Atsutane Akera (4-0) defeats Danny Akabaro (3-1) by submission in 4:36 of rd 2
Danny Akabaro was fighting the perfect fight for nearly two full rounds as he used his superior striking skills to keep Akera at a distance and rocked him twice as he tried to shoot for takedowns. Akera did finally succeed in getting Akabaro down with only seconds left in the 1st, so all danger was avoided. In the 2nd round, Akabaro again landed a solid shot as Akera looked for the takedown, knocking him backwards. Looking to seize the opportunity, Akabaro charged in and Akera caught him with a Suplex and fell into side mount. From here the submission master worked quickly and put Akabaro away with an Armbar to complete the comeback.
Rating: Excellent

Main Event –UKC Heavyweight Championship
HW –Murilo Satinho (5-0) defeats Kurt McDonald (9-1)* by UD in 5 rounds
Satinho was surprisingly cautious in the 1st, looking to keep the Champion pinned against the cage as he worked for a takedown. Satinho punctuated the round with a huge slam as time expired, leaving no time for follow up. The second saw McDonald try to land that single big shot, but Satinho refused to be baited, bulling McDonald into the cage, but was unable to take him down. In the 3rd, McDonald finally hit the big punch and dropped Satinho to the canvas, but the Brazilian promptly regained his feet and avoided further damage. The final two rounds saw both men do a lot of leaning on each other as they tired, McDonald refused to put punches together, instead looking for the single shot to end it, while Satinho clinched and bulled McDonald into the fence. It was a fight with far too much caution and was greeted with boos as Murilo Satinho became the new UKC Heavyweight Champion by scores of 49-46 on all three cards. Sylvester Collins was in attendance and called both men cowards after the fight, while lobbying Satinho to “put it up against a Man that will fight ya!”
Rating: Poor

Attendance: 729 – Gate $14,580 – Show Rating: Excellent

Thoughts: The show grades out well despite a rather non-compelling main event and some weak preliminary matches. The credit has to go to the three fights prior to the main event, which were all action packed and full of twists. Akera could prevent a serious threat to Alex Cole, if he can ground him and neutralize his striking, which we saw Billy Russell do quite effectively in spots. In terms of the HW picture, this muddles it even more and it is unclear at this point whether Satinho’s first defense with be against the Collins / Alois winner or the Timms / Renato winner, which will be the headlining bouts on our next two cards.

Thanks Jon, I enjoy comparing results between our dynasties. Sylvester Collins has hit some tough times CSA with a 3 fight losing streak now. He has a big fight coming up in UKC in his first bout since dropping the strap. Hopefully he responds better for me. His conditioning is just atrocious in my game, don't know if you have the same issues with him, but after 1 round he is always gassed.

Finances
2nd Quarter Results 2000: April (27,331) May (16,824) June (54,142) (Overall balance: 573,961)
We follow a couple of “down” months with our best month ever in June, with the catalyst being some key mid month signings, which help spur a record 92,238 in merchandise sales. With a hefty balance in the bank I go after some big names and will soon be paying out record amounts of prize money, which will force me to pursue a TV deal in earnest in July.

Signings
2nd Quarter (The checkbook is open)
WW – Robert Darrell 28 (12-6) Exclusive – 1800 – 6
LHW – George Laurent (40-13) Exclusive – 3500 – 6
MW – Zaco 35 (43-17) Associate – 7500 – 4
WW – Jonathan Huang 24 (0-0) Standard – 20000 – 6
WW – Paul Duffell 33 (21-13-1) Exclusive – 1600 – 5
MW – Joaquim Fontes 26 (16-1) Exclusive – 2000 – 8
LHW – Ranieri Fernanda 26 (7-1) Exclusive – 2500 – 7
MW – Stephan De Winter 25 (5-0) Exclusive – 2500 – 7

Easily more than I have ever shelled out in contracts before, with Jonathan Huang being the big catch as we are able to snag the World renowned Jiu Jitsu Champion. Hopefully his submission skills will translate well when someone is hitting him in the face. With other big names like Zaco and Laurent joining the fold we definitely have some intriguing matchups forthcoming. The two true “steals” of this period however could be the MW duo of Fontes and De Winter, who combined cost less than Zaco and will likely contribute more to the division. With this firepower joining UKC and a solid month of June, somebody has to be willing to give us a TV show!

Extensions
HW – Vic Timms 33 (18-4) Exclusive – 3500 – 5
MW – Alex Cole 28 (14-0) Standard – 10500 – 4
WW – Will Kane 30 (15-7) Exclusive – 2000 – 7
LHW – Eric Dartmouth 23 (1-1) Exclusive – 600 – 8
HW – Mark Bicknell 31 (8-3) Standard – 1000 – 6
LHW – Adrian Pascal 25 (4-0) Exclusive – 1600 – 8

The spending is not limited to new guys as right now I need Cole badly and a standard deal at least makes him harder to sign away than an Associate. The problem is, he has Associate deals with SIGMA and MSX, so I have to keep him booked as much as possible. Timms was also important as a gatekeeper for our young heavyweights, while Pascal is showing some promise and SIGMA was after him, so I had to offer an exclusive deal.

Sayonara
HW – Percy Catcher 28 (10-4) took his sorry ass to SIGMA shortly after signing and screwed me by no showing his first and only booking with UKC.

MW – Bill Brown 23 (5-0) this guy is a pain to negotiate with as he always wants short term deals and has little patience. He gave us no room for error and slammed the door quick, bolting to Alpha-1.

LHW – Joseph King 30 (4-11) not really shedding a tear losing this jobber to MSX.

Injuries
No injuries, though Reed Howlett still has 9 months to go on his PED suspension.

Blurcat Quarterly – MMA News

April through June 2000 notable fights

SIGMA – Jaromir Grygera beat Fernando Amaro by submission in 8:21 of rd 1 to win the SGIMA MW Title

WVTC 1 – Carson Neuwirth draws Jemaine McKenzie after two 30 minute rounds. (The debut of the Brazil based World Vale Tudo Council features three 60 minute draws, must have been a compelling show as Cricket matches end quicker)

GAMMA 57 – James Foster beat Tony McCall by submission in 2:27 of rd 1 to retain the GAMMA HW Title

Alpha-1 – Carlos da Guia beat Ricardo Fernandes by KO in 1:25 of rd 1 to retain the Alpha-1 WW Title (This was a total war)

BCF – Jason Dalgish beat Steven Griffin by submission in 4:43 of rd 6 to win the BCF LW Title (My chief competition in the UK, but worthy of props when earned, this was a solid fight)

MSX 16 Danger Zone – Joaquim Fontes beat Woody Fierstein by UD in 5 rounds to win the MSX MW Title (Then promptly signs with us leaving the Title vacant)

GAMMA Warzone TV – Jack Humphreys beat Darin Blood by submission in 4:15 of rd 4 to win the GAMMA WW Title (Not only a big upset, but a great fight for free TV)

GAMMA 58 – Sean Morrison beat Benny Danare by TKO in 1:55 of rd 2 to retain the GAMMA LW Title

Alpha-1 – Hassan Fezzik beat Jeff Carlton by TKO in 2:09 of rd 1 to retain the Alpha-1 HW Title (Will the world ever see Fezzik / Foster?)

SIGMA – Lefter Oktay beats Mugar Boc by submission in 4:40 of rd 4 to retain the SIGMA HW Title (Fezzik’s most famous protégé gets tested but pulls it out)

WVTC 3 – Helio beat Selton dr Oliveira by KO in 2:48 of rd 1 to win the WVTC LW Title (a second strong effort from the new kids on the MMA block)

An interesting month with WVTC putting on three solid cards and the big two both trotting out their top draws (Foster and Fezzik) who each made short work of their opponents. Even BCF had a solid quarter, as much as I hate to admit it.

Breaking Ground

Major Promotion Rankings (Last quarters ranking in parenthesis)

6 (8) – XCC
7 (6) – WEFF (Women’s)
8 (7) – UK Combat
9 (9) – MSX
10 (10) – WVTC

The big two swap again, while SIGMA climbs back into the #3 spot as there was quite a bit of shuffling this month. Despite a solid quarter we fall a spot, which shows just how stiff the competition is in the MMA world right now.

Top 10 Pound for Pound in the World (Last quarters ranking in parenthesis)
1 (2): LHW – Tadamasa Yamada 24-1 (Alpha-1)
2 (4): MW – Neil Napier 17-0 (GAMMA)

9 (9): LW – Fiyero Lermontov 12-0 (GAMMA)
10 (10): LW – Sean Morrison 30-3 (GAMMA)

Dropped out: None

No new faces this month as things remain static everywhere but the top 4 where Yamada and Napier leapfrog Watson, despite not fighting. GAMMA again rules the roost with 6 of the 10 spots going to their fighters.

Retirements
None this quarter

Legal Blotter
Reed Howlett MW (UKC) I have ranted about this enough.

Tony McCall HW (GAMMA) tests positive for performance enhancing drugs after being submitted by Foster in his bid for the HW strap. We will see him in a year (I tried to sign him, but would not meet his price, good for me)

Media
GAMMA expands their warzone show, signing on with GNN Total Sports.
The two big boys are at it again in the PPV market
Alpha-1 signs with American Option and will now compete with GAMMA on their home soil.
GAMMA adds EuroNet to their PPV war chest and will now be even more visible in Europe, making a TV deal for us even more important!

UKC hits the airwaves

Blurcat Extra – MMA News

In breaking news from England, Blurcat has learned that United Kingdom Combat has signed 4 episode deals for a show tentatively titled UKC Fight Night with both Euro Cable Sports 4 and UK Broadcasting Digital. At this point the shows are set to debut in September in the overnight time period.

UKC President Ace Lee confirmed the report stating. "We are obviously over the moon to at last get our product out where it can be seen outside of not only our region, but in Europe and Russia as well as Euro Cable has outlets in both areas." Lee went on the state that while he was hoping for a better time slot, "This is still a peg in the door and it is up to us to put out a product that will draw a nice rating and give us leverage to improve the deal at the proper time."

When asked about possible matchups for the first show, he mentioned a possible fight between Atsutane Akera and Evan Pizzarro as one possibility, though he indicated nothing was set in stone.

UKC becomes the first MMA promotion outside of GAMMA and Alpha-1 to secure any type of Television deal, which is seen as a significant development, with other organization sure to try and follow suit.

Our July show has a fight many in the UK have hoped for since Collins first captured the UKC title as Stafford Alois, formerly of BCF makes his United Kingdom Combat debut. Though the fight is still a huge draw, it would have been off the charts if Collins was still Champion. "The Cyborg" has his work cut out for him as Smit is a veteran who has been around the block. Villar will have to apply pressure and hope to tire Smit out, while being careful to avoid getting caught in a submission.

Kane and Streit on the undercard is a bout with title ramifications as well, as both men are ranked on the top 10 and hope a win will propel them to a shot at Satoh's belt. Brady Crawford looks to extend his improbable win streak and will earn a match against a top 5 HW if he can do so.

UKC 15 – Midsummer Madness

Preliminaries

WW – Diego Arteta (2-0) defeats Garrison Grable (7-16) by TKO in 4:44 of rd 1
Rating: Great

LHW – Ryuji Ganaha (1-0) defeats Folee Caffatere (2-3) by submission in 3:40 of rd 2
Rating: Good

MW – Ralph Kohl (17-9-1) defeats Holden Strant (2-6) by SD in 3 rds
Rating: Average

Main Card

HW – Guy Broom (3-0) defeats Toshiya Furube (1-2) by submission in 2:49 of rd 1
Broom flew from his corner, wading in with a two fisted assault that forced Furube to cover up and allowed Broom to quickly take him down. From here Furube was overwhelmed as Broom gained full mount, then snapped on a wicked Armbar to close the deal.
Rating: Fantastic

HW – Brady Crawford (10-5) defeats Gareth Grundy (7-6) by submission in 4:40 of rd 1
Crawford continues to roll as he secured an early takedown, but chose to simply lie on Grundy for nearly 2 minutes. When he finally decided to work, he broke out of Grundy’s guard and took side control. As Crawford looked to transition to mount, Grundy rolled, giving up his back and Crawford trapped in a sick reverse Armbar, a move he has not shown until now, and wrenched in tight to get the tap.
Rating: Good

WW – Benedikt Streit (20-8) defeats Will Kane (15-8) by submission in 4:14 of round 1
It wasn’t so much the result that was the surprise, but the ease in which it was achieved as Streit took Kane down with ease and kept him down, completely nullifying Kane’s vaunted Muay Thai skills. It is clear that Kane needs to devote much more time to Jiu Jitsu as he allowed Streit to take his back with little resistance and was promptly flattened out and submitted via Rear Naked Choke. Streit now stakes a viable claim to a shot at Satoh’s Title.
Rating: Great

UKC Light Heavyweight Championship
LHW – Affonso Villar (5-0) © defeats Faas Smit (35-17) by KO in 0:20 of rd 3
Both men looked to grapple in the 1st round and it was a virtual stalemate as Villars freakish strength offset Smits superior skill set. The Champion used his kicks in round 2 and was much more effective, working in some nice combinations with the hands to draw even with the challenger. Round 3 began with Smit looking to shoot, just as Villar unleashed a perfectly timed roundhouse kick, catching Smit on the temple and laying him out cold!
Rating: Great

Main Event
HW – Sylvester Collins (8-1) defeats Stafford Alois (27-11) by TKO in 3:14 of rd 1
Collins made sure conditioning would not be an issue here, despite the fact that Alois got off to the faster start, land some wicked legs kicks early. Biding his time, Collins was patient and finally caught Alois’ leg, spilling him to the mat. There has never been a doubt about Collins finishing skills once he has an opponent ground and it was vintage “Big Show” in this one as a flurry of elbows and hammer fists out Alois on dream street and forced the referee to intervene. Collins then grabbed the house microphone and called Satinho a poor mans version “Of the baddest, most powerful motherf***er in MMA….and that would be me fool!” Apparently Collins wants a title shot and I think I agree, as Satinho is signed for September and just needs an opponent.
Rating: Fantastic

Attendance: 1083 – Gate $32,490 – Show Rating: Excellent

Thoughts: The jump in attendance surprises even me, as we rake in our best gate to date and set ourselves up nicely for the debut of our new TV show. Collins is still a huge draw and taking out Alois as decisively as he did will only improve his standing as Alois is nationally regarded in England. One would think that this victory would also sort out the Heavyweight picture, allowing Collins to fall into that September title shot since Renato is already set to fight Vic Timms next month. There is one more monkey wrench in the works though as Collins is put on a 2 month medical suspension after his post fight physical and will not be ready to go in time. Looking over the roster, there is one other recent winner who will be ready, and I will make that announcement at the August show, which I believe will go over well with the fans.

The August show features two more of our top guns in the Heavyweight division and Renato will be looking to make a statement as a win over Timms would really boost his appeal. I also get to see how if my third highest paid fighter is ready to step up and start earning that contract.

Satoh has suprised many by holding off some stiff competition in his rise to the Welterweight Title and Shimizu will be his toughest test yet, despite having only 2 "official" professional MMA fights. Billy Russell is looking to bounce back after giving Middleweight Champion Alex Cole all he could handle last time out.

UKC 16 – Overdrive

Preliminaries

LHW – Spencer Rubenstein (1-0) defeats Hardy Tristan (0-2) by submission in 4:42 of rd 1
Rating: Great

WW – Gideon Navarro (1-0) defeats Cooper Richardson (10-8) by TKO in 3:22 of rd 1
Rating: Great

HW – Jutaro Honma (2-1) defeats Nate MacReary (1-2) by submission on 3:39 of rd 1
Rating: Fantastic

Main Card

HW – Graham Goodbody (21-11 defeats Brian Barnes (12-10) by UD in 3 rounds
From the time I booked this I was worried about it being a clunker and my fears were realized in spades. After a surprisingly active 1st round that saw both men busy with their hands, fatigue set in and the last two rounds were a complete snore fest, with Goodbody slightly less boring to win 30-27 on all cards.
Rating: Very Poor

MW – Billy Russell (4-1) defeats Soshu Bando (5-2) by submission in 4:57 of rd 2
To the surprise of all, Russell did not even try to take it to the ground in the first, electing to strike and doing a fairly effective job of it. It is clear he has worked this part of his game after the Cole loss. In the second, Russell caught a kick and promptly dumped Bando, going to work for the submission. To his credit, Bando fought off one Rear Naked Choke and looked sure to survive the round, but Russell got a second one in and Bando had no choice but to submit with only 3 seconds to go.
Rating: Great

LHW – Daniel Hornsby (14-6) defeats George Laurent (40-14) by submission in 4:03 of round 3
We saw a completely different Hornsby in this fight then we did in his UKC debut as he pressed the action against the dangerous Laurent, whose timing was off the entire evening, as he never caught Hornsby flush and was powerless to defend takedowns when Hornsby chose to do so. In the final round Hornsby finally got full mount and after softening Laurent up with Elbows, secured an Armbar for the win. I expected much more from Laurent.
Rating: Good

UKC Welterweight Championship
WW – Heikichi Shimizu 3-0 defeats Matsudaira Satoh (10-2) © by submission in 3:31 of rd 1
Shimizu is as good as advertised as he made a very competent wrestler look clueless, gaining a quick takedown and methodically working to pass guard, which was achieved in about a minute. Once in a position of dominance Shimizu was able to ratchet in an Armbar and lift Satoh’s belt in decisive fashion.
Rating: Good

Main Event
HW – Renato (7-0) defeats Vic Timms (18-5) by submission in 4:34 of rd 2
This was a brutal war as the two big men went at it like Welterweights, exchanging vicious strikes in the first round. Timms struck the first big blow staggering Renato as he tried to shoot, but the Brazilian shook it off and was able to catch Timms with a huge slam as the round ended. Round 2 saw Timms again look to pepper Renato, who ducked under a barrage of blows and took Timms down with a double leg. From here he peppered Timms with Elbows, drawing blood and finally using his strength to stretch Timms out with an Armbar and capture the biggest win of his career.
Rating: Fantastic

Attendance: 1048 – Gate $31,440 – Show Rating: Excellent

Thoughts: We stay over 1000 in attendance and offer another great main event that had the arena rocking. After the Renato / Timms verdict is announced I climb into the Cage. “I know that many of you know that Murilo Satinho is set to defend his belt in September. What you don’t know is who his opponent will be.” The crowd chants Big Show, Big Show, Big Show, but I have to let them down. “Collins will not be cleared to fight in time, so it won’t be the big show. What I would like to do now however is introduce you the UKC’s newest Heavyweight Fighter……………….Ladies and Gentlemen, please give a warm UKC welcome to former GAMMA superstar……………..Norbert Vinkus!!!” Vinkus makes his way to the Cage as the crowd excitedly talks about a Satinho / Vinkus match as I continue. “Now, while Norbert will be joining our family, he will still have to earn his shot, so it won’t be him fighting Murilo Satinho in September. That honor will go to a man who is undefeated since joining UKC, a blue collar bloke who represents the common lads and has truly earned this opportunity………..He is your working class hero, Brady Crawford!!!!” The crowd goes nuts as Crawford now hits the Cage and thanks them for their support.

I would have never guessed this would occur in a million years, put Crawford is now our fourth most popular Heavyweight and has beaten everyone we have put in there with him. He is UKC version of Rocky Balboa as evidenced by the 1000 plus Brits serenading him like he was Ricky Hatton as the show ends.

HW – Eddie Whelan (12-6) defeats Mark Bicknell (8-4) by UD in 3 rounds
Whelan knew he had to strike and came out using lateral moment to control the early stages, but was taken down midway through the 1st round. He was able to stymie Bicknell’s attempts to pass guard and then spent to the next two rounds doing a great job keeping Bicknell on the end of his strikes. For his part, Bicknell tried to shoot several times, but usually ate a fist for his troubles as Whelan had him timed nicely. Final cards read 30-27 X 2 and 29-28 for Whelan.

WW – Mikey Wallace (8-2) defeats Peter Bracewell (22-10) by UD in 3 rounds
Wallace is one of the better Kickboxers in UKC and he proved much too elusive for “Iron Jaw” who lived up to his nickname taking several violent shots, but never going down. The leg kick and jab were Mikey’s best weapons and they keep Bracewell at distance, taking away his ability to shoot effectively. The highlight of the fight came in the 3rd round, when Bracewell charges Wallace and ate a punishing hook that wobbled him, but the tough as nails Californian weathered the follow up assault. Cards 30-27 X 2 and 29-28 (strange) for Wallace.

Main Event
MW – Atsutane Akera (5-0) defeats Evan Pizzarro (5-2) by submission in 4:52 of rd 2
One has to wonder what goes through the head of Evan Pizzarro sometimes. Pizzarro spent the entire first round blasting Akera with Leg kicks and stuffing every takedown attempt with ease, working in some effective striking as well. In the 2nd round he inexplicably chose to shoot on Akera, taking him down but getting stuck in his guard, then eventually swept. Pizzarro then made a critical mistake allowing “The Surgeon” to take his back, where he quickly got his hooks in and applied a Rear Naked Choke to steal the win.

Thoughts: a very exciting main event, which I expected and a good solid effort for our first venture onto the airwaves. Akera is set for a monster push and I want to build him a bit more before putting him in with Cole, which will be a monster fight if I handle it correctly. We really need some more star power at the lower weights and I think Akera could be the man. Wallace got a badly needed win, though he still has a long road to hoe to get back in the Welterweight Title picture, not that anyone is in a great position to unseat our new Champion Shimizu at this time.

Main Card

LHW – Adrian Pascal (5-0) defeats Ryan Lane (4-2) by TKO in 2:24 of rd 1
Lane looks to force the action attempting an early takedown, which Pascal avoids. “The Power” then advances on Lane behind a double jab and gets the takedown. Working quickly Pascal transitions to side control then gets full mount. Lane is unable to defend himself as Pascal pounds away forcing the stoppage to remain undefeated in UKC.
Rating: Fantastic

HW – Wilson Franklyn (5-1) defeats Damien Jones (4-3) by UD in 3 rounds
As expected these two came out firing bombs, with neither interested in trying to take the match to the ground. Over the first two rounds there was not much to choose in terms of striking, with the difference maker coming in the form of brutal leg kicks from Franklyn. The saw Franklyn explode early and drop Jones with a wicked flurry of punches, but Damien did a great job defending Franklyn’s ground and pound and weathered the storm as the action slowed. The final scores all going in Franklyn’s favor 30-26 twice and 30-27.
Rating: Decent

WW – Jonathan Huang (1-0) defeats Brad Wyman (3-2) by submission in 3:20 of round 3
The much anticipated MMA debut of “The Locust” was met with stubborn resistance from Wyman, who forced the action early, out striking Huang before being taken down late in round 1, where he was nearly caught in a triangle right before the bell. The 2nd was all Wyman as he rocked Huang and managed to stay upright, taking it to the 3rd round dead even. With the crowd now spurring him on, Wyman rocked Huang again early in the last round, but got overzealous and was taken down near the halfway mark. From here the Jiu Jitsu master went to work and soon had the Arm bar cinched in, bringing Wyman’s gallant effort to an end.
Rating: Great

UKC Heavyweight Championship
HW – Murilo Satinho© (6-0) defeats Brady Crawford (10-6) by UD in 5 rounds
A match touted as the working mans hero (Crawford) against the dangerous young Bull proved nothing more than a cure for insomnia for the most part. The first 3 rounds were spent clinching and leaning against the cage and Satinho was visibly tired after only 2 rounds. Crawford, showing no eagerness to mix it up, finally let his hands go in the 4th and managed to steal the round. The final stanza gave the fans a small taste of action as Satinho landed a huge slam, but the Champ was too tired to follow up effectively. The last 3 minutes of the fight saw both men exchange feeble submission attempts as Satinho was content to lie on Crawford. All Judges score it 49-46.
Rating: Awful

Main Event – UKC Middleweight Championship
MW – Andrew Rush (16-6) defeats Alex Cole (14-1) by TKO in 3:48 of rd 2
The main event started as many thought it would, as Cole took Rush down quickly in the 1st round and appeared to toy with him, controlling the action easily. Cole slipped out of guard and gained side control, but was unable to take advantage as the bell rang. Round 2 saw Cole eschew the ground game that had so easily carried the first as he chose to strike with the dangerous “Demon from Derbyshire.” The Champions arrogance would prove his undoing as Rush countered a wild right with a vicious hook, dropping Cole on his back. As the crowd erupted, Rush pounced on Cole with a fury that left the referee no choice but to intercede as we crown a new UKC Middleweight Champion in a shocking upset!

Attendance: 1115 – Gate $33,450 – Show Rating: Fantastic

Thoughts: Another good crowd as we continue to draw 1000 plus and I am happy with our gate. I had hopes that the Crawford/Satinho tilt would steal the show, but it nearly ruined it and I am not pleased with either mans effort. This was Crawford’s big chance to complete a rags to riches rise and it is doubtful he will get another shot like this. As for my Heavyweight Champion, one word….Cardio!!! I have already played this game with Sylvester Collins and I expect the UKC Heavyweight Champ to be in much better shape.

Fortunately Rush pulls the show out of the fire with his sudden, shocking win over Cole, who clearly underestimated Rush and paid for it. Rush is a popular figure in the UK and this win makes him a definite drawing card. I am tempted to immediately put together a bout with Atsutane Akera, but instead I think I will continue to build Akera and either give Cole a rematch or give Evan Pizzarro the next shot. Another mild disappointment is Huang, who struggled with his stand up and would get destroyed by Shimizu if I matched them up now.

Card for UKC 18 announced

This card should be a showcase for Villar, who is favored to crush the inconsistent Hornsby. The real draw however is the rematch between Collins and McDonald, will "The Big Show" gain revenge or can "Chopper" prove his stunning one punch KO of Collins was no fluke. The world will be watching as the two former champions look to earn a shot at Murilo Satinho.

Finances
3rd Quarter Results 2000: July (53,061) August (39,453) September (-5,774) (Overall balance: 674,590)
Production costs and a 100% jump in prize money paid out lead to our first month losing money in ages, but this will be the cost of growth and with no shows scheduled in October we should pad out coffers nicely with merchandise sales.

Sayonara
MW – Tucker Plumm 33 (13-10) bolts to our rival BCF, which is no big loss as he was a journeyman. He was 0-3 with us losing to Mikey Wallace, Bill Brown and Nick Detroit, he will be nothing but a jobber in BCF and they only signed him for two matches anyway.

Breaking Ground
None this quarter

Board the Windows
KDM FC go under in August in what can only be described as a shocking development, considering they were always either #3 or #4 in the world. I don’t bother going after their talent as anyone I could afford is not over enough in the UK.

Major Promotion Rankings (Last quarters ranking in parenthesis)
1 (1) – GAMMA
2 (2) – Alpha-1
3 (3) – SIGMA
4 (8) – UK Combat
5 (7) – WEFF (Women’s)
6 (5) – BCF
7 (6) – XCC
8 (9) – MSX
9 (10) – WVTC
10 (NA) – N/A

The MMA world falls below 10 large promotions with the demise of KDM FC, but there are rumblings of new companies possibly forming in Brazil and California, as overall the MMA landscape looks strong. Our vault to number 4 is most pleasing and we now put SIGMA in our sights, though the climb from this point becomes much more difficult and we will need to hold shows outside of England for the growth to continue.

Top 10 Pound for Pound in the World (Last quarters ranking in parenthesis)
1 (3): HW – Hassan Fezzik 28-0 (Alpha-1)
2 (1): LHW – Tadamasa Yamada 25-1 (Alpha-1)
3 (2): MW – Neil Napier 17-0 (GAMMA)
4 (4): LHW – Mike Watson 14-0 (GAMMA)
5 (5): WW – Carlos da Guia 18-0 (Alpha-1)
6 (6): HW – James Foster 37-4-1 (GAMMA)
7 (7): HW – Lefter Oktay 17-0 (SIGMA)
8 (8): MW – Matthew Dean 35-5 (GAMMA)
9 (UR): WW – Datuk Ong Ka Ting 9-0 (Alpha-1)
10 (9): LW – Fiyero Lermontov 12-0 (GAMMA)

Dropped out: LW – Sean Morrison 30-3 (GAMMA)

Fezzik regains the top spot, despite not fighting and Ka Ting vaults himself into the top 10 after submitting Xie Ming at the September Alpha-1 event. No other real movement to speak of.

Retirements
Beau Gorshin – 39 yrs old (38-10) Independent – A one time staple of Gamma who defeated Aaron McBroom and Peter Bracewell in 1999, but then lost a close decision to Tarcisio Dantas and was then destroyed by Sean Morrison in February of 2000 and released by GAMMA shortly thereafter. A solid career fighting at both LW and WW.

Atshushi Nakajima – 39 yrs old (31-16) Independent – One of the elder statesmen of Japanese MMA, Nakajima fought his entire career in Alpha-1 and was always considered a good test. His decline started in mid 1999 and he lost his final three fights and was released by Alpha-1 after Petey Mack took him out in 40 seconds of the first round in March of 2000.

Legal Blotter
None

Media
Our deals with Euro Cable Sports 4 and UK Broadcasting Digital are the only two of the quarter, which makes us only the third promotion on the World to have a major TV deal.
