Saturday, July 13th, 2052: Pollock Takes Charge, Blanks Apex
Before the game Dan Pollock liked his chances and his instincts proved to be right. In a superb outing the Winemakers pitcher whitewashed the Apex Assassins 6-0.

Pollock said in the clubhouse afterward, "I just had a feeling it was going to be my day. My control was awesome. I could throw my curveball even when I was behind in the count."

The Napa Valley starter held Apex scoreless, giving up 2 hits while registering 6 strikeouts and issuing no walks.

"We didn't have very many good at-bats," the Assassins manager said in his postgame interview.

"When that happens, you usually lose."

Up to now Pollock has recorded a record of 6-10. In 21 starts he has fanned 106 batters in 113 innings with a 5.50 ERA.

Wednesday, July 31st, 2052: Watanabe Pounds HR #500
Hammersmith's 6-5 victory over Ann Arbor was highlighted by Eiichi Watanabe's 500th career home run. His teammates congratulated him at home plate after he circled the bases.

"I didn't see all of them out there," Watanabe said with a chuckle, "until I rounded third base." He added sheepishly: "It was only a home run. It's not like I won us a World Series!"

In 4 at-bats the Hooligans third baseman collected 3 hits in his historic game, scored 2 runs, and had 1 run batted in.

Watanabe has a career .321 average with 3055 hits, including 508 doubles, 47 triples and 500 homers, collected 1868 RBIs, scored 1686 runs and compiled a .385 OBP.

Terry Corcoran nailed down July's Republic League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on Colorado to get a deal done before the 33-year-old becomes a free agent.

Corcoran seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 4-1 record, reeled off 18 strikeouts, worked 39.2 innings and held batters to a .213 average for the month as he posted a 2.27 ERA.

Thursday, August 1st, 2052: Republic League Picks July's Best Batter

In July he batted .383 with 10 home runs, 27 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

Thursday, August 1st, 2052: RL Names Rookie Star of the Month
Víctor Sandoval is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In July the Colorado hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .359 average with 33 hits, 4 home runs and 15 RBIs.

Sandoval is presently batting .320 with 18 home runs, 74 runs scored and 82 RBIs. His OBP is .390.

Thursday, August 1st, 2052: July's Top CL Rookie Named
In the month of July Felipe Palmeiro hit the ball hard, often and with authority and was honored as the Continental League Rookie of the Month.

He did it in standout fashion as the Baltimore's left fielder hit .278 with 3 home runs and 11 RBIs while scoring 18 runs.

This year Palmeiro has 21 home runs and a .320 batting average.

Thursday, September 5th, 2052: Catron Superb Against New York
Dave Catron was in command in his outing against the New York Heroes. He hurled the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines to a 8-0 shutout victory, yielded 2 hits and chalked up 6 strikeouts and 3 walks.

"A complete-game shutout. That's fun territory for me," he told reporters in the postgame interview. "I had good balance and mechanics and was able to keep the ball down. When I do that, good things happen."

Over the season Catron has thrown 182.2 innings and dished out 111 strikeouts with a 11-14 mark and a 6.45 ERA.

Wednesday, September 18th, 2052: Okamoto Slugs 700th Home Run
The Hyannis Patriots had something to celebrate today even though they dropped a 5-2 decision to Hartford. The reason -- the splendid slugger Hitomaro Okamoto hit his 700th career homer in today's contest at Patriots Place.

"I'm fortunate to be here," Okamoto told the media after the game. "The Patriots have a classy organization and some great fans. Homer #700 was for them."

Okamoto has a lifetime average of .324, played in 2731 games and collected 700 home runs and 2206 RBIs.

Okamoto of course is the first player in FOOL history to hit 700 Homers in a career. He has hit 93 more home runs than the former Home Run Champ Daniel Gil, and has almost 200 more home runs more than the next highest active player.

He is only 5 RBI away from tying Ben Keyte's all time RBI record as well.

One of the questions that will be asked the special panel for FOOL's 100th season will be if Okamoto is the greatest player in FOOL history? Not just stats, but how does he weigh in against other former FOOL greats such as Juan Sierra, Hideaki Tanaka, Emmett Quero, Jose Colon and Hector Romero.

Wednesday, September 25th, 2052: 250 Wins for Correa
Francisco Correa of the Chico Rebels nailed down his 250th career victory with a 13-1 win over the Hyannis Patriots today at Rebels Ballpark. Correa, 38, fired 2 strikeouts over 9 innings of work. He gave up 1 run, no walks and allowed 5 hits.

"I feel great," Correa said afterward. "I try not to get caught up in the moment. It's hard with so much press coverage these days, but I tune all that out when I go out there and pitch."

A check of his career stats reveals Correa has chalked up 250 wins and 202 losses with 2080 strikeouts and a 3.92 ERA. Opposing teams have put up a .276 batting average against him.

Thursday, September 26th, 2052: Jordan Mystifies Napa Valley
An efficient outing for Curt Jordan usually means a win for Boston. Today was no exception, as the 29-year-old starter held Napa Valley to a long line of goose eggs. He struck out 10 and gave up 5 hits in the 7-0 shutout.

Currently Jordan has a record of 12-9 with 144 strikeouts and 49 walks in 208.1 innings and a 4.84 ERA.

Tuesday, October 1st, 2052: Republic League Announces #1 Starter
September's premier pitcher was Carl Ward of New York Heroes. He pulverized Republic League hitters all month long and picked up the Pitcher of the Month award. The Heroes star hurler fashioned a 4-0 en route to the honor.

Tuesday, October 1st, 2052: Continental League Picks Best Starter in September
It was a very good month for Jeremy Aitken in September. The 35-year-old veteran starter for the Tokyo Cyclones outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.

Aitken ran up a 5-1 record in his 7 starts during the month. In 52.2 innings he fanned 55 and recorded a 2.91 ERA.

This year Aitken has compiled a 20-9 record with a 3.08 ERA in 38 starts.

Apex is done for the season while Napa Valley has one final game left vs Baltimore. A Napa Valley win and they clinch the playoff spot. If the Winemakers lose however, Apex and Napa will face off in a best of 3 playoff to decide the playoff team!
