Garza Keeps Hit Streak Alive
Tuesday, August 31st, 2066: Hammersmith could care less about Miguel Garza's hitting streak. All they care about is who won the game. The Hooligans manager told BNN, "Not to belittle his streak, but at the end of the day, the important thing is winning the game, not stopping a hitting streak."

Well, the Hooligans didn't stop Miguel Garza today, but they won the game 6-4 over the Rancheros. The Colorado center fielder was 2-for-6 in the loss and extended his hitting streak to 35 games.
M. Garza walked in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, grounded out in the 4th, doubled in the 7th, singled in the 9th, flied out in the 11th and grounded out in the 13th.

This season Garza has delivered 184 hits in 555 at-bats for a .332 average with 8 home runs. He is getting on base at a .403 clip and his totals also include 82 RBIs and 99 runs scored. This year Garza has played in 127 games.

6-Hit Barrage by McEachran
Sunday, September 19th, 2066: It was a big day with the bat for Mark McEachran of the Hammersmith Hooligans at Ballpark of Colorado as he bashed out hit after hit after hit to defeat Colorado 23-0.

After the game he said, "Guys, it's just one game in a long season. I hit it hard and found some holes today. 6 hits in 7 tries. But my hits are not the big thing in the game. The victory is the important thing. That's the story."

At the end of the game McEachran had collected 6 hits in 7 at-bats and a small mention in the record book. He was happy. He had a big day with the bat. And the Hooligans had won.

M. McEachran doubled in the 3rd, doubled in the 4th, struck out in the 6th, hit an RBI double in the 7th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.

This year McEachran has hit at a .362 clip with 131 hits, 1 home run, 43 RBIs and 68 runs scored.

Not the top of the leader boards, but I'll take it. (I've come back from #2 before!) Congrats to a fantastic group of competitors this year. I'm scared!

Mario Martinez passes the great Hitomaro Okamoto for the all time career Runs record! Martinez finishes the season with 2497 runs scored for his career, 64 more than Okimoto.

Colorado's Kyle O'Halloran completely shatters Luis Soward's 50 year old record for singles in a season. O'Halloran hit 234 singles this year, 25 more than the previous record! O'Halloran only had 22 extra base hits all season and only a .398 Slugging pct!!

Sorry for the delay. The game doesn't give news stories for setting new records unfortunately. So I usually have to hunt them down after the season.

No worries. I thought the game created stories when players reach milestones.

Actually, I have it jacked up.

He was close to the 500 HR milestone and close to breaking the hits record.

Thanks for your patience Alan.

funny again this season how I go months in near last place only to finish in 3rd. I'm going to miss my awesome infield I had last season.

Wow. I guess we're off and running!

Like I said heading into this season, I didn't know what to make of my inherited team. On paper, I felt like I had a decent group to work with but not being familiar with this league, I was really just taking shots in the dark.

I wish I could take credit for building this roster, it's a great start to my tenure in FOOL either way.

I guess I did give playing time to some over due minor leaguers. I tinkered with the lineups and promoted a few guys who had been rotting away in AAA / AA. So, I can at least take credit for that and for the fantastic pre-game speeches that had to of taken place during this season. haha

In any case, good luck to the other 3 playoff teams. Take it easy on the new guy! muhahaha

T. Yoshida singled in the 1st, doubled in the 4th, doubled in the 6th, doubled in the 8th, singled in the 10th and hit an RBI single in the 11th.

So far this year Yoshida is batting .297 with 3 home runs, 46 RBIs and 88 runs scored.

Whoops. Too late.

Guess she'll get her chance to avenge the 2002 playoff loss to my Cardinals now too... makes for a great storyline.

Oh, and funny thing Tasan, over in FOOLX the CL stands for Cool League. haha

This seems to be happening all to often. The Marlboro's start slow, get back into the playoff's, or at least contention for the playoffs, and have a awful September to miss out!!

On another bad Marlies note, we signed Martin Florey to a nice 3 year extension. What happens....he suffers a massive talent drop during the season!!!

A new look, younger Marlboros team next season

Good luck to the playoff teams, and welcome to the league Shoeless

This is a broad generalization, but I find often the following to possibly be true:

Slow Start = Possibly too many rookies that haven't fully developed yet. Or possibly not playing your starters enough during the spring training to shake off the winter rust.

Tailing off at the End of the season = Possibly other teams that had slow starts catching up to the overall talent level... or possibly too many older players with declining skills

Or could also just be poor luck too!

Actually, I don't know what the underlying cause was, but the sequence that really opened my eyes last night was from, I think, September 14th to Septmebr 21st or something like that. In the first standings, Hammersmith was 5.5 GB of Toronto. Then in the next one--7 days later--Hammersmith was a half game up. I mean, wow, 6 games made up in seven days. I had won 5 in a row, I think, and the Marlboros had lost 8 in a row. It was a trip--I had already resigned myself to a third place finish prior to that.

Well, in my defense, the dancing banana wasn't the smilely I was looking for, but we don't seem to have a rim-shot drummer playing smilely on this board.
