So, I wonder who the best pitcher to ever wear a Napa Valley jersey is.

Anthony Jones
Renaud Lemieux
Carlos Gonzales
Doug Frazier
Joe Morris
Jessie McGorry

Someone else that I'm not remembering off the top of my head?

Well two of the more obscure ones for the current league are pitchers you stole from me in my Valdosta years, so I remembered them well!

Pérez Gets RL #1 Pitcher Trophy
Friday, September 1st, 2073: Miguel Pérez is the latest Republic League Pitcher of the Month award winner. The Chico starter stood out on the hill time and again last month and finished August with a sparkling 5-0 record.

In 6 starts last month, he fanned 34, walked 12 in 39.1 innings and posted a 1.14 ERA. Pérez held opposing teams to a .212 batting average when he was on the mound.

In 29 starts this season Pérez has registered a 13-4 record and a 2.93 ERA.

Winter Wolves Ortega Named CL's Best Pitcher
Friday, September 1st, 2073: It was a very good month for Esteban Ortega in August. The 35-year-old veteran starter for the Halifax Winter Wolves outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.

Ortega ran up a 4-2 record in his 7 starts during the month. In 44 innings he fanned 35 and recorded a 2.66 ERA.

This season-to-date, Ortega has fashioned a 15-9 mark and 3.04 ERA in 192.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .238 against him and he has logged 116 strikeouts.

RL's Premier Batter Picked
Friday, September 1st, 2073: José Quintana has been the model of consistency over the past month and has been a tough out, claiming the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy for August.

The Hartford left fielder hit .398 with 6 home runs, 27 RBIs and 18 runs scored. He was also walked 13 times and posted a .468 on-base percentage.

So far this season Quintana has 29 home runs and a .369 batting average.

CL's Best Batter Selected
Friday, September 1st, 2073: There's nothing like putting up good, solid numbers in the last year of your contract. Today Jesús Rodríguez helped his contract negotiations by nabbing August's Continental League Batter of the Month honors.

The Halifax center fielder put together a .375 batting average with 8 home runs, 38 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if Rodríguez continues at this brisk pace.

This year Rodríguez has batted at a .302 pace with 147 hits, 22 home runs, 105 RBIs and scored 101 times.

RL Names Taylor Best Rookie
Friday, September 1st, 2073: Matt Taylor was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 21-year-old second baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen August's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 27 games Taylor batted .333 for Brunswick, slapping 35 hits in 105 at-bats with 5 home runs, drove in 16 runs and scored 14 times.

For the year Taylor has hit at a .316 clip with 60 RBIs, 12 home runs and 80 runs scored.

Javier Marés Triumphs in CL Rookie Vote

Friday, September 1st, 2073: Javier Marés was selected as the Continental League Rookie of the Month for the excellent performance he put together last month.

In August the 26-year-old third baseman for Apex hit .306 with 19 hits, 1 home run and 13 RBIs. He posted an OBP of .413 and played in 22 games.

A look at his current stats shows Marés with a .252 average, 9 home runs, 49 RBIs and 30 runs scored. He has played in 106 games.

Buschlen Sizzles, Halifax Fizzles
Sunday, September 3rd, 2073: "Dave Buschlen is really a good pitcher when he throws strikes early in the count," said his manager after the Apex hurler tossed a complete game 2-hit shutout against the Halifax Winter Wolves.

"I went right after each hitter, trying to get ahead in the count," said Buschlen. "I wanted them to swing the bats and keep my pitch count down. It worked. I felt strong the whole game, even in the last two innings."

Buschlen walked 3 and struck out 7 in the 5-0 victory.

To date this season Buschlen is 13-9 with 26 starts and an ERA of 4.73 with 168 strikeouts in 175 innings.

Watanabe Stops Ann Arbor
Monday, September 4th, 2073: The Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines met their match today in Hartford hurler Toin Watanabe. He kept them guessing the whole game and spun a 1-hit shutout.

"He just worked us over," the Ann Arbor skipper said. "He probably didn't even take a shower after the game. I don't think he even worked up a sweat. They could probably pitch him again tomorrow."

In the 12-0 victory Watanabe whiffed 7 and gave up 1 walk.

This year Watanabe has a 15-10 record with a 4.63 ERA in 27 starts.

At the current pace with roughly 20-25 games left in the season, right now zero of last year's playoff teams will make this year's playoffs.

I know that has happened before in FOOL, I just don't remember when the last time was.

Bah!!!!

Congrats to the playoff teams, except for the AI Pelicans and their last minute bargain basement signings.

Toronto plays their final series of the year @ Chico (after 2 more games vs Hartford)

Colorado has a much easier remaining schedule with 3 games left @ Ann Arbor

So the remaining schedule appears to favor Colorado. Colorado appears to be the only playoff team from last year that has a shot at making the playoffs this season.

Technically the Pelicans are still ShoelessJ03's team, but yeah they are AI controlled right now as he has needed a break from FOOL in both leagues due to non-game related reasons.

Teach knows how to read the team list when she's unsure of something.

That would also mean me stopping hitting F5 on this page repeatedly. I will not stop.
