I wonder how many original starters will still have their job by the end of the season due to injury or general suckiness?

I mean my beloved Cards, after stupidly giving up on Matt Leinart, may how have an undrafted rookie starting for them soon since "heir apparant" Derek Anderson, you know the guy who was one of the worse QB's in the NFL last year? still sucks this year. Leinart could be a lot closer to starting if he had waited to sign than a "I have to hope he gets injured or I won't get to play a down this
year" Matt Schaub. Injuries and poor performances were always going to happen the first three weeks of the season-I mean the Steelers were down to their 4th QB!, and he's pretty well off I think from that rookie 1st round QB contract he signed.

/rant off

Now watch Max Hall through for 400 yards in his first start the Cards.
Are Quarterbacks getting hurt much these days? It seems a lot of the rules to protect them have actually worked. There is a bad injury here and there, but it seems for the most part that most of them stay healthy.

I'm more worried about other positions. I don't know how a RB holds up over an 18 game season. Or a 300+ pound lineman. The 18-game season is a really bad idea and it's another case of the NFL not understanding that they essentially have perfection right now.

The only scenario I have that would make me want to see this is if we contracted 2-4 teams and thus had less dilution of talent.

The Saints released Adrian Arrington to make room for a kicker. They are very deep at WR, so it makes sense... Arrington looked really good before getting hurt last year. Minnesota needs to bring him in for a look NOW.

I was wondering where Adrian Arrington was at. Last I heard he was with the Cardinals, I think. I thought he was out of the league. I always thought he was a pretty good receiver.

But we compare them with us normal people all the time. Since when do they live in a different world?

Monday night winner (in a huge Division game) going on the road I guess. Still, if the Giants can't run the ball or block Peppers better then the Packers did, they are fucked. I really don't think Eli will be as patient as Rodgers was while picking apart that Cover 2. I also doubt the Giants will commit 18 penalties, so....who the crap knows.

after the marlins thing my faith in sports ownership is at an all time low.

The argument may stink to you but there are people like me that will take all the extra football games they can get. Its the one sport I cant get enough of.

If people are willing to pay for it why wouldnt they try to bring in the extra revenue?

well, let's socratically equate this shit.

the fundamental question: is this good for football? is this good for the core product that you enjoy so much?

There's no way you watch all the football available to you now. No human could.

And an 18-game schedule seriously risks making the games that you do watch much worse (more injured players not participating, more meaingless games, every game would be necessarily somewhat less important).

I am very torn about the Vick thing. He is an exciting runner but I am still not sold on him as a QB. He has made several horrible decisions and throws that were luckily not picked off as they should have been. If the defenders hang on to those passes the talk would all be about how the Eagles should have kept McNabb. McNabb would get ripped apart for his bad throws because they would hit the ground, I would take bad throws being grounded over bad throws into the arms of defenders any day. One leads to an incomplete pass and you move to the next play, the other leads to the drive over and the other team with the ball.

I also think that Kolb is getting a very raw deal. He is getting ripped apart for the first half of game one but I blame very little of that on him. The gameplan for that half was awful. There is no way that he coul even get anything close to the flow of the game going when he kept being taken out for Vick every other play.

With that said, the way the offensive line looks I think they have a better chance of not carrying their QB out in a body bag with Vick in there.

A blocked punt for a TD ain't bad though. That catch in the endzone would make most receivers envious.

Josh McDaniels tries to be too cute for his own good. You're down 4 points, you're in the red zone, and you call a running play out of the shotgun on 3rd and 1? Get in the shotgun and throw or get into a power formation and run the ball. Hell, if you're gonna go shotgun, at least put Tebow in. I'm going to light myself on fire.

Awful throw by Ryan, Clements picked it off, returned it about 30 yards before Roddy White knocked the ball out of his hands from behind.
