Interesting to see how your views have evolved since 2004:

Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: 4.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.79

Who are those people saying I'm a leftist now .

Looking over from my 2004 post, I'm still about the same for Social Libertarian/Authoritarian but drifted left on economics. But that could just be the difference between picking "Agree" and "Strongly Agree" on some and the difference between "Disagree" and "Strongly Disagree" on others.

which puts me fairly close to Dalai Lama territory.

Fun little test, although I do agree that it's designed to make people appear more left than they actually are.

another liberal libertarian here, i guess. somethoughts:

1. as previously stated, the test is incredibly lower-left slanted. (which makes jon's position even more incredible. )

2. the results reinforce why i roll my eyes anytime someone calls themselves a "social liberal and fiscal conservative". of course we all feel that way in a theoretical world - you want those with true needs to get what they need, but you want to be fiscally conservative. but it's incredibly difficult to satisfy both simultaneously.

I'm generally pro-private sector, pro-choice, which means I'm out of luck when it comes to representation.

I got more liberal over the past decade. I used to always rank on the right side of the spectrum and now I'm in the other quadrant. And how I did on this one probably underrated how I've shifted.

I'll see you at the Ron Paul rally

Interesting that besides him, there are no leaders in the lower right.

It's been mentioned many times that the people we're supposedly lumped in with do not share our views.

I could no more vote for Ron Paul than I could vote for a Rick Santorum or a John Edwards.

The lower right of us, in theory at least, are those who truly feel government must be greatly limited in scope. However, that also would mean the greatest variation in personal views.

I'm intrigued mostly by Solecismic and Alan T for showing up to the left of Obama and to the right of JiMG.

Dutch: One, no, that's not true (I'm 3.00 to the right economically). And two, left/right on this scale is purely economic. What we think of as left/right with respect to religion seems to affect this scale up and down instead.

I'm more a Founding-Fathers-type nerd in that I'm for as few government restrictions as possible both on my personal life (so I'm pro-choice/pro-gay rights/anti-nanny state) and on the economic world (so I actually *like* the concept of capitalism, which seems to be a dirty word these days).

I've moved very far to the left from where I was 10 years ago.

Edit: And yes, there are some horribly leading questions and very left leaning indeed.

I think the results still miss the point of personal responsibilty/beliefs and the government's role. For example, one can personally be anti-abortion/pornography (for example) but that does not assume that government has a role in such.

On the other hand, it does not surprise me to see nearly all of Western leaders (including Romney and Obama) bunched up in the upper right. Politicians.

I find it interesting the Canada's conservative PM is basically in the exact same spot as the USA's crazy scary socialist lefty madman.

Didn't have to, just right-clicked for the image URL and posted that like a pic.

As others have said sections 5 and 6 seemed very slanted.

In addition to the heavily slanted questions, I felt quite a few were too narrowly defined, so mine isn't what I feel would be an honest interpretation, but, here it is anyway.

Though, I'm not surprised that I'm pretty much a bee line to the opposite direction of what our current politicians are.
