I feel the problem with expansion right now is that new players are just introduced. I feel that until the league is much bigger, and expansion draft within will rob current squads too much or not provide new squads nearly enough. Perhaps a Expansion pool of players could be made. It could give expansion squads a choice between talented old players (too old for nfl) and less talented young players (Not good enough for nfl, slipped thru ZFL cracks so far). Just my idea.

For what it's worth (which admittedly isn't much), I've never been a fan of expansion teams getting number 1 or 2 overall picks. I feel such an amazingly high premium pick should go to the team that 'earned' it during the season. That's the thing you look forward to when you have such a terrible team, the one thing that lets you wake up in the morning (so to speak) and say, "I have hope." Teams coming in should be happy enough to be in the league, which will get them through the misery of being pounded into the ground by established teams.
![]() Anyway, good luck to the current ZFL teams and I'll hope for expansion sometime in the future. Even though I wasn't close to being voted for for expansion, I appreciate being able to put in a bid. Is there anything I might be able to do to help out or provide value in some way for the league? Just curious. Thanks. |

Thanks for the voties. To start it off it looked like there were no fans of the Cincinnati franchise, but the rally votes came in at the end. Too bad expansion is not what you guys would like to see.
I love challenges, and hell, woulda been in favor of picking last in the draft had that swayed people's opinions of expansion.. too bad. Thanks guys.. I'll still keep reading. Last edited by korme : 06-01-2003 at 10:14 PM. |

Rev, would you mind stating your case? Why you are disappointed, and apparently don't see a downside to expansion? If you think those that voted no made a mistake, maybe we could discuss why. Or, we can just let it rest.

Good thing I didn't submit a bid... then again, I think I would have been last anyway.

First off, I think it best to just let it rest. Especially with Swaggs' vote in as a no, it's clear we just weren't ready for it yet. At this point, rather than bogging down in the why, etc., (after all, didn't I kind of violate my own rules by even making the above statement? whoops.:o ) let's just go on to season 3, and get the momentum back in swing. The discussion did provide some valuable thoughts on how we might go about expanding after season 3. I've got some ideas from the discussion on some compromised solutions to "who drafts where," etc. Whilst the draft is going on, I will fine-tune a proposal on how to bring Cincinatti and El Paso into the league. Until then, Fargo, may you settle on a pick, or take some desperate sap to the cleaners! I will post the draft thread shortly, possibly even later today.

TO RECIEVE THE FIRST PICK THIS YEAR, YOU MUST:
1. Be willing to seperate with some young talent (under 26 and C or better min.) 2. Be willing to at least throw in your first round pick, and if it is later in the round, either more young talent or your third pick. But I will listen to all offers on anyone. Really the only position I don't need is running back. Everything else is pretty much crap as you could tell by my 0-9 record!

Well The Afoci, I sent you an offer. I think it's a pretty good one. In fact a damn good one. But that's in my eyes. So PM me back if decline.

You may want to check out the draft projections on the draft thread that's about to go up for some thoughts on trades, and some thoughts on who will be drafted where. Of course, this year was MUCH harder to project than last year.

So El Paso and Cincinatti are going to be the two new teams in the league when expansion does occur? There won't be another round of voting? If so, thanks to all of you for voting for me (except for Sachmo, stuck up bastard that he is ). I won't let you down as an active owner once the franchise gets up and running... ![]()

I don't see any reason to go through the hassle of voting again. Season 3 will conclude in a couple of weeks, and what's going to change between now and then? Jeeber and Shorty aren't going to go away, and they both seem willing to hop into the fray no matter how much current owners want to screw them, so... (even though I thought bertograce deserved it for his creativity and humor in writing up Denver...whoops, there I go violating my own rule again:o ) I'm planning on introducing a plan sometime during season 3 to bring in Cincinatti and El Paso.

I appreciate all those owners who cast their votes for Ron Elway and the Colorado franchise. I look forward to following season 3 of the league and wish all owners the best of luck.

Aw, I didn't mean it, dog. I was just playin' off the common misperception and occasional resentment of the well-yielded authority you hold around here.
