My thoughts exactly. That's two more losses for them, assuming all goes well and he only misses 2 games...with a back injury who even knows how long it will actually be.

They were going to lose in Mexico City anyways, but they need 3pts from Costa Rica.

I guess their next matches after that aren't till June, so presumably he'll be healed and ready to go by then though.

guzan's been really good this year. given the circumstances you could make a case that he's the better start given that he's used to playing behind a shoddy defense and sees a ton of shots every game

Yeah, Guzan looked very good against City last week. And I think Howard is overrated by quite a few U.S. fans to be honest.

It's not really a big deal.

Chortling at DT saying Guzan in goal = a home loss vs. Costa Rica.

If an injured goalkeeper is going to make such a big difference, it is probably not a game you deserve to win anyway.

I guess we'll see.

I just don't think this team is good enough to withstand these sorts of things.

You guys are hilarious. Where does Guzan play anyway? The fourth division in Holland or something? Wait, he's a starting Premiership goalie who has arguably been just as good as Howard this season on a far shittier team?

Clearly the US is doomed. Doooooomed.

Hopefully.

I'm doom and gloom on the US team though.

The shot from Shittu from 45 yards might be one of the most amazing shot I have ever seen..only a great save kept it from being truly amazing.

Gus Johnson is one thing. But Gus Johnson with Ian Wright, that's worse. And I'm not sure how smart it is for Fox to partner Johnson with a different analyst/color guy each time out.

And why is Liverpool - Spurs on at the same time as this anyway? It just seems dumb.

First time I've been able to catch a game with Gus at the mic.

Ugh. Brutal. Stick to football and basketball Gus.

Chelsea absolutely dominating the second half. Rio with a cheap shot on Torres. Should've seen red and if retrospective action isn't taking, well....

A mild gust would have knocked Torres down. He didn't even extend the arm. He bumps him, and Torres falls like every other Spaniard. If anything Torres raised his elbow on the jump ball.

I can only imagine what'd happen if that was Balotelli. Or if Balotelli (or even Gareth Barry) was sarcastically applauding the UCL ref last week.

Agreed. Rio took a shot from Torres on the 50-50 ball and wanted to give him a little elbow on the way back to let him know he will remember it. That happens multiple times a game. Torres went down the moment he felt something, but it was pretty weak. Even Luis Suarez would say that was soft.

Still, Rio could have gotten sent off if the linesman saw "Greg Louganis" Torres take that dive.

Former Inter and Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins has reportedly paid €3 million to buy out his contract with Levante so he can join the Seattle Sounders.

his motivation was moving his family to the u.s. i wonder what kind of presence mls has in african nations. i think we've tapped out central america and africa would be a good pipeline

Milan still only need 1 goal.

the other match, Schalke-Galatasaray, is also very fun. 2:2 now, schalke needing to win to advance.

Believe I called this after the first leg.

Too bad though - would have been nice to see Barca go out.

I would have liked to have seen that gobsmack do that to certain other Premier League players and not one who is basically a shattered boy. It was absolutely intentional. I'm more pissed off about the clapping incident. Gareth Barry was banned for talking with the referee after the last derby and the coward Ferdinand isn't punished one bit. It's ridiculous.

In case anyone missed the most important result from yesterday - Brighton thumped Palace 3-0 .... beating our fiercest rivals who also have by far the best striker in the division at present, awesome stuff.

(which leaves us ... as usual, knocking on the play-off places hopefully ...)

I might have well titled this post PING: DaddyTorgo

Verizon FIOS has signed a deal with BeIN Sport, and it should be on all FIOS networks by mid april. You're going to need a pretty beefy package to get it though, no ala carte)

Just saw your facebook post - that's great news! Finally I can stop planning my weekend around when the games I want to watch are being played (and sitting in front of my laptop streaming them), and can watch them on my own schedule!!

HOORAY!!!

-and no worries about the package, I already have one of the "bend over and spread em" packages.

But you can try to detach someones leg at the knee with your cleats, and not get a ban at all, as long as the ref only kinda saw it and the linesman didn't have the balls to say anything. Makes sense

Wait - they have a Serie A SHOW??

WOOO!!!!!!!

Now let's see if I can get today's games to record from my mobile device/from the web since it's not showing up on my channel guide on my phone/ipad yet.

Grrr...I can't. Am I really going to have to drive home to set my DVR at 3:30? Grrrr

Or I guess watch it at 9PM and just avoid this thread and all spoilers till then.

Good result for Italy today against Brazil (2-2 draw). Went down early (man, Brazil's counterattack at pace is just FILTHY), but fought back with 2 goals in 3 minutes and were unlikely not to score more frankly (although one could say the same about Brazil to be fair - maybe to a little less extent IMO).

A great, all-out attacking game.

Italy almost paid several times for defenders dwelling too long on the ball - something which they're not used to seeing from other teams, so it was nice to see those guys under pressure and have them reminded that they need to be sharper.
