The quotes out of the Hugh Freeze presser are hilarious.
“The son of God, Jesus Christ, he is the only one I’ve ever met who can handle my junk. If you know somebody else that can do that, I’d love to meet him.”

The Bison are hosting Colgate tomorrow on ESPN in Fargo for a chance to move on to the FCS semis.
Our coach is rumored to be a high candidate at KSU which is making the faithful nervous since he's only been leading us 4 years. Doubt that he stays really. Chris Klieman may lead new K-State football coaching search | The Wichita Eagle

I'm confident. I know the run is coming to an end, but this is easily in the top 3 of NDSU teams the last 8 years. Good leadership on both sides of the ball. If they do lose today Colgate will have played the game of their year. I hope we start like we did last week. 6 TD's in 6 possessions.

I will admit that I was even surprised by the 35-0 score. Our defense didn't give anything. Could've easily been 42-0 with a phenomenal catch called incomplete in the endzone.

And in the best game of the day, Eastern Washington fights it out with a great comeback against UC Davis on the horrific red turf to win tonight.
So next week in the FCS semi-finals, it will be Eastern Wash home against Maine and NDSU at home against arch rival SDSU. That latter game will be for the championship. Neither EWU or Maine can hang with either of the Dakota teams. My money was always on Eastern Washington, and they would be the tougher opponent for either team down in Frisco, TX.

FEI actually has the Huskies rated a spot higher, #7 to #8 for the Buckeyes. S&P has Ohio State at #7 and UW and #9. Sagarin has more of a gap, with OSU and #4 and UW and #9; his "Predictor" measure puts Ohio State as a 5-point favorite, so that's probably playing a big part in those opening lines. Washington's defense is outstanding. The secondary is legit, with 4 very, very good cornerbacks that see time (I'm including nickel back Myles Bryant in that group) and two good safeties, though Rapp is better in coverage while McIntosh is the big-hitting enforcer. Pass rush hasn't been great, but it's been improving lately. Ben Burr-Kirven is a tackling machine - very, very good in the open field and has good lateral quickness. Not that big though. Greg Gaines is a beast in the middle of the DL; not the greatest pass rusher, but can collapse the pocket from time to time. His biggest asset is occupying blockers to allow BBK to make tackles against the run. The offense is less consistent. The biggest problem is the receiving corps is average, at best. Jake Browning isn't the greatest QB in the world - his arm strength is just OK and he often waits too long to throw, but he's reasonably accurate and he's very good at reading defenses and checking into better plays. He's also more mobile than most expect. The run game though can be quite good. Myles Gaskin is a wizard - not the biggest guy in the world but he has amazing patience when finding creases and is so good at turning a 3-yard gain into a 7-yard gain by finding a little seam, always falling forward and seemingly never taking a big, direct hit. Salvon Ahmed is the primary back-up, and he's faster, but not quite as good as breaking tackles or finding the best running lane. My read on this is if the Husky D can keep the Buckeyes in the low 20's - which will be tough given how explosive and talented they are, but they have the scheme and personnel to do it - they have a shot. They'll need their OL to win the day in the run game and not get totally overrun on passing plays (Browning has a tendency to do some really dumb shit under a heavy pass rush). |

And now the Bison have officially lost their head coach to Kansas State. We have a big game on Saturday against our top rivals, in what will probably determine the National Champion.
I guess our offseason will be interesting. One has to think that the promotion will come internally.

A lot of smoke the past several days about FSU hiring Kendal Briles. I know Taggart needs to win, but sheesh. Gonna be a hard sell in Tallahassee. Not really sure how you justify it - until he produces, anyway. Isn't that the way it works?

FSU had a probable rapist playing QB for the better part of a year. I think they'll be just fine with it.

As long as it was probable, that means everyone is fine with rape. Got it.

I mean the previous candidate was Hugh Freeze.
He turned FSU down to take less money and be a HC at ...LIBERTY... It really isnt a big jump from paying for escorts for recruits to rape |

I'm not on board with it, but if it's what's going to be, it ain't be the first and won't be the last.
Freeze wasn't a serious candidate from what I've heard, mainly because of the concern that he'd immediately jump to a HC job. Same with Fedora, although he might be a preferable flight risk to Briles. Taggart is going on his 12th OC in 9 years. So that's an issue I believe he is sensitive about trying to fix. As far as Winston goes, he's a huge idiot, but if you read all of the information on what occurred, there wasn't much to it. I know we're in the culture of taking people down on accusations, but he wouldn't have been convicted of anything. That's not to say he hasn't shown himself to be a pretty poor excuse for a human overall, but...

And maybe he didt know he was supposed to pay for crab legs. And maybe he really didnt have any bbs and someone else busted 4 car windows the same time he had a bb gun in his hand. And maybe he didnt really mean it when he told those elementary school kids that girls are suppsoed to be still and quiet and boys are supposed to be strong and mean... But that is a hell of a pattern. Of course no charges were pressed. When the victim is attacked by police and interrogated for hours..of course her traumatic story is inconsistent. |

Look, I'm not interested in rehashing the whole thing. I was only referring to the one incident. I acknowledged that the guy has done some stupid/awful things. Doesn't mean he raped someone - or if he did, that anyone knows that it happened.
I started this with a post about Briles and not being particularly thrilled about it. It turned into shots at me and the school. Cool. I'm out.

A bit of hyperbole...but yeah both are pretty bad guys.I mean one truned a blind eye to 20 something year olds allegedly raping other students and the other hired escorts, allegedly, for 17 year old boys... Is there a kill em with fire option? |

Being a little sensitive there. I think "shots at you" is not true. Shots at FSU, absolutely. I think your characterization of it as a "hard sell" is overstating things considering what they've "put up with" in the past. Point is, they'll put up with a hell of a lot if they think you'll help them win football games. Maybe a hard realization to expect one to come to about one's favorite football team, but in my opinion a rapist both won the Heisman and led them to a national title.

I don't even think I ever heard Freeze named associated with FSU in the past month, I was spending all my time worrying he was gonna turn up in Knoxville. A running "joke" around here is that Tech will hire McGriff to be their DC and that Paul Johnson ends up as the OC in Knoxvegas ... cause we just can't seem to escape that kinda shit.

There's the important distinction between consent and non-consensual. That said...
...how many escorts are doing sex work purely of their own will, and how many are in a situation where they feel compelled to do it through threats and fear and intimidation? There's also the more subtle message being sent that football players should feel like they are owed sexual gratification, and that such an environment promotes attitudes that make rape more likely to happen. |

Sure, they’re both bad for the girl involved. In the case of rape it’s horrible; in the case of prostitution it’s anywhere from horrible to, “eh, it’s a paycheck.” That being said for the sake of CU’s argument as it relates to this subject I completely agree, you don’t want a coach willing to be involved with either anywhere near your program. |

I think this is certainly true in some cases, on the low end of the spectrum especially, but I think the morality police have truly fucked this narrative up for what are a essentially lot of independent businesswomen making a lot more that most of us for a lot less work, and a view that the best thing escorting can be is "eh, its a paycheck" borders on sexist. |

Yeah, I shouldn’t really be commenting on this stuff I guess. I have a vague understanding of it running the gamut from professional and safe to straight up slavery, but what percentage of women fall into which category I have no idea.
And by it’s a paycheck I meant seeing their job about how I see mine. It’s not degrading or anything and some of it is even interesting, but I certainly wouldn’t be here every day without the paycheck. |

He's a big load of TBD right now, so I'm in wait-and-see mode.

Yeah, I agree with Jon here. He's definitely a different kind of coach, so that might be a breath of fresh air, but he's going to have his hands full with the roster changing over, especially on OL. I could see it going south if he struggles to do that, but obviously hope he does well.

Real question. Have you been able to find the buyout number? I havent. That is the only thing that matters. Schools HAVE to extend the coach every other year so he always has 5 years remaining. Otherwise he gets nailed in recruiting. The tell is in how much he owes if he leaves and how much they owe if they fire him. Dino is a damn good coach. |

Thoughts on the fact that Collins deal at GT is for 7 years?

I don't think I realized that, for whatever reason I thought it was five years. And 5 feels reasonable since I expect three of that to be roster rebuilding. Seven is probably excessive IMO, unless the buyout in 6 & 7 are unusually favorable to the Institute.
