When it happened in real time I thought it hit the rim. The replays make it hard to tell, but I have to side with the refs based on both what I saw with my eyes and the fact that they get no replay.

I love the game of basketball, but all the timeouts in the last minute of a game make it borderline unwatchable.

Celtics making the plays at the end. Kudos to them.

It's too bad for Kobe that he has been going it alone this game. His performance tonight deserved better.

huge win for the C's - winning 1 of 2 in LA is do-able...winning 2 straight in LA would be a lot more dicey

Good game by the Celtics. I think they can definitely win in LA. But it's still going to be tough to win on the road.

My guess is the Lakers take Game 6, and your guess is as good as mine for Game 7.

At least we'll get an exciting ending to the season.

Wow, you can't even give credit where credit is due? Come on, man. A perimeter player shooting jump shots almost exclusively just scored 38 of his team's 86 points, at a 48% clip. Those teammates he took shots away from? 35%.

If I am the Lakers, give me Kobe shooting those shots any day of the week. Too bad for them the rest of the Lakers still found time to take 51 shots.

(To be fair, I kindof read it as "Hey, it didn't look like it on the tv feed I was watching, just yours in green-tinted Celtics-ville". That said, clearly after the fact yours was innocent and his wasn't but at the time, I thought it was the other way).

It was sorta tongue in cheek, since I and everyone in the country is watching the same feed. So it seemed kinda odd to see his response. And given what he has said since then, it certainly wouldn't surprise me to see a "Celtic interpretation" of what he saw.

So if you read anything snarky in my response, it was probably that.

Chief may be a Clippers fan, but he certainly flies the Lakers banner in the postseason. And someone who called a Celtics player a "queen" earlier in the thread looks pretty ridiculous calling someone an asshat for saying "enjoy the loss."

I don't deny that I am rooting for the Lakers. Kobe is probably my favorite player (despite not being a Clipper), and Boston fans have never given me a reason to root for them or any of their teams.

But that doesn't mean Galaril wasn't being an asshat, and everything I said was fair comment.

As for Pierce, if you weren't siding with the Celtics on this, you wouldn't like the kinda of attitude he plays with either. My nickname for him is not only apropos for how immaturely he acts on the court, but is the sign of the general disgust I have for him, which is entirely because of him and has nothing to do with the Lakers or even the Clippers.

How am I not giving him credit? He hit some ridiculous, amazing shots. I'm just saying...if he is more of a facilitator than a scorer he wouldn't be able to score 38 points because he'd be dishing more to teammates.

I will say Kobe is making a strong case for being the greatest player ever even Jordan at least as far a s a pure basketball player. The guy hits almost everything he launches just amazing.

Hmm, okay, I don't think I agree that your take on how Kobe should have played is the best way for the Lakers if they wanted to win the game. But sorry if I misread your comment as you saying he had a poor game.

I just don't see how anyone could bang on Kobe's game tonight, in any way. I mean, he was crazy good tonight, and you're saying there was a way he could have played better? Sorry, we're just going to have to disagree on that.

That's like ripping on a guy who gets a cycle in baseball, but knocking him because in his fifth at bat, he flew out to RF.

Oh, and BTW, as a fan of Kobe's, I sometimes can't stand the shots he takes. Some ridiculously stupid shots. I'm fine ripping him when those don't fall.

No - I'm not saying he could have played better.

Just seemed like you were saying that his teammates played like crap - I'm just saying that one of the "side effects" (if you will) of him going into "Kobe mode" is that it denies timely touches to his teammates and they get can get cold or turn into passive participants in the game (at least on the offensive end if not on the defensive end).

Yeah, I can see that. That's been put out there before--that his teammates have the best seat in the house for the "Kobe Show", and they sometimes get caught watching instead of moving.

But Kobe has become much more of a facilitator than he used to be, and I find he usually only goes into "Kobe mode" now if it's clear that his teammates are sucking (or if he has a clear advantage over whoever is guarding him).

Not going to say you're wrong, but I think a lot more responsibility for how poorly the Lakers 2-12 played has to be placed at the feet of those players 2-12 than at Kobe's feet.

Simmons had a quote similar to that from his live chat during the game:

Gotta say, even though Kobe got hot there, it usually leads to his teammates standing around watching him which isn't necessarily the best thing for LA. They can't win that way unless he goes off and has a 35-point half.

(this was when Kobe had the hot streak in the 3Q).

When he gets into that mode, the rest of the team subconsciously relaxes and slows down.

Maybe, but if he doesnt have that hot steak, they go down 20+ probably and the game is over already. Plus, thats largely on them.

In the first half, Kobe was dishing it and the Lakers were making it. THen late in the second and in the third, it was usually a block on Gasol or something else horrific.

Watch the rotation of the ball change before it hits the backboard (first angle). They made the right call.

Good catch there. Even I was unsure at first, but that looks pretty clear.

This isn't really true though, they shot 33% in the first half. Lakers shot the ball poorly all game except for Kobe in the 3rd.

And I still didn't see it hit, it looks like the rotation change was hitting the backboard, not before doing so. It is close though.

FUCK

I have to go to the Red Sox game with a client tomorrow, so I won't be able to watch the Celtics game. Damnit. At least we should get out before the Celtics game is over out on the West Coast...

I agree that the rotation changed, but when you watch the second shot, you can see that it was when it hit the backboard. Oh well, need to win the last two
