Nothing bold there. Gophers have been through numerous coaches in the past 50 years without any success.

Bold would be predicting the Gophers to have success with PJ Fleck.

Tongue was in cheek when I said bold. But I think Fleck was a relatively splashy hire compared to what Minnesota usually does. They should've never fired Glen Mason.

Gotcha!

Probably true although that disaster Brewster they brought in was a popular choice at the time as well.

Ive been through so much optimism with new coaches that quickly dissolves into a disaster I tend to just not get excited about anything Gophers related anymore. Also, agree on Mason at least they were on the top half of the standings most years with him at the helm.

I'm biased because I know Fleck a tad.

But I think he is a certified Stud. Was shocked he took that job, to be honest.... but he'll win somewhere. I think ultimately he ends up down south. Ole Miss wouldn't surprise me.

He reminds me of a more trust worthy Freeze

I was shocked at how awful some of Brohm's playcalling was when I watched Rutgers play them last weekend. Double reverse flea flicker within 10ish yards of the end zone was one shining example.

This looks to be a low scoring affair. First one to 17 wins.

I would compare KF to a better Glen Mason. Is he wonderful? No. But is it worth giving up something that is pretty good and trade it for something that will likely end up much worse? Grass isnt always greener especially with the schools that dont attract the blue chip recruits.

Maybe that's his flaw, but I based my bold prediction on the fact that the old regime has left a pretty empty cupboard at Purdue but they've at least been somewhat competitive this year. No small feat, IMO. Whereas I didn't think the Minnesota cupboard was too bare. I thought they would be good enough for some minor bowl game. But they've been nothing short of awful.

Like how much more trustworthy? If it's only a little, then that's still pretty awful.

Change is scary, esp. for some Iowa fans. I see this argument all the time.

But Iowa's positives far outweigh the negatives:
Top 20 in Athletic revenue
Top 20 in Football revenue
One of the toughest stadiums in the nation to play in
Great fan base that will follow you to the death
Weak press. No hard questions. Ever.
Pay check will be there. And it will be big.

There are negatives, I get it. But we need to aspire to be Wisconsin. At one time Wisconsin aspired to be Iowa. Then they surpassed Iowa and now Iowa aspires to be Wisconsin.
Our programs are similar. But Wisconsin has done much better with 3 different coaches in the last decade than Iowa with one.
The one difference is Barry Alvarez.

Im ready for a change. I would suffer through some down times if it was exciting. Watching Iowa's offense is like watch the grass grow. I would say Paint dry, but when paint dries it changes colors. Iowa never changes. Same sh*t, different day.

FKF is a good dude. Does a lot for the community. Doesnt get in trouble. But his brand of football is old, stale and tired. Iowa was so much more exciting to watch under Hayden Fry in the 80s than FKF in 2017. What does that tell you?

Sorry for the long post.

Yes, Jon it may take 8 OTs to get to 17. Maybe even combined.

It was pretty bare. They had a couple of RBs and not much else.

Plus, their record is about where minor bowl would be.

They've beaten Buffalo, Oregon State, MTSU, and Illinois as I would expect
Probably needed to split the MD/Purdue games instead of losing both, MSU was no surprise as a loss. Iowa, Michigan, Wisconsin probably always seemed like losses. So they need to win both vs Nebraska and at Northwestern to be bowl eligible. That's instead of needing to only split those after the disappointing MD/Purdue 0-2.

Basically, they're one game behind where I would have expected, which is right on the minor bowl fringe just like you said.

With Brooks missing, what, 1.5 game (and part of another) with injury & now with the continuing issues at QB, I'm not surprised they look so-so. Fleck has also tinkered with the usage of the two RBs when healthy & that hasn't been as productive as their former possession (or even carry by carry) split.

Great game going on in Corvallis tonight, but it looks like OSU is gonna get their hearts broken again.

Eastern Michigan may be the best 2-6 team I've ever seen. They've lost so many close games and are legitimately good.

I flipped on that EMU-NIU game late. Maybe EMU was going to lose that game anyway, but damned if that wasn't a heartbreaking way to lose. I agree with you, they've taken NIU and WMU to OT, so definitely some good stuff happening there.

Whoever that coach is, someone should get on him now instead of waiting for the inevitable 1 good MAC season jump to a higher up Group of 5 job or low level major job.

They went to a bowl last year. Their 6 losses this year are all by 7 or less with 3 in OT. Their 4 remaining games are against much easier opponents, so another bowl isn't out of the question.

Let me clarify, from a distance Minnesota's cupboard looked pretty bare. But when you think relative to the rest of the Big Ten West, not so much. I pretty much agree with the rest of your assessment though. I highly doubt they'll be able to beat Nebraska or Northwestern.

Obvious Hot Take: This is a damning story for Purdue and the people of West Lafayette in general. They make millions of dollars in TV revenue and it sounds like they were less prepared for a major injury than most any High School. It also sounds like the visiting locker room is worse than a typical High School. A pink locker room is a great example of gamesmanship but player safety and basic comfort needs to be a priority at all times.

Really looking forward to the 3:30 bracket of games tomorrow.

PSU v OSU
TCU v Iowa State
NC State v Notre Dame
UCLA v Washington
MSU v Northwestern
USF v Houston (3:45)

That's going to wear out the remote.

Bunch of good upset candidates too with both Arizona schools, Texas Tech and Georgia Tech, and my wildcard upset pick on the day in Rutgers.

Malik Rosier's stat line so far: 15 for 35, 349 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT

This Miami team is so weird. So much talent, but seemingly incapable of building up big leads.

Iowa State about to jump all over TCU. That would be a terrible result for the Big 12. Kansas vs Kansas State is on TV for some reason.

The B1G is a 1 team league and I'm still not sure how good they are.

Terrible call. And at home. That is a call that PsU gets in Happy Valley. Shocked they got it in Columbus.

ISU up 14-0.

May be Iowa's best win this season. Sad. I wish Matt Campbell was our coach.

TCU is making bad plays and being very undisciplined. Hill threw an INT inside the ISU 10 and 3 plays later TCU has a pick six wiped out by an encroachment penalty. 9 penalties and counting against TCU.

that's it.
I'm done with college football and football in general
horrible PI call which cost OSU 7 points.
a CALLED INT on the fucking field, reversed w/o 100% evidence to overturn it to yet again benefit PSU.
officials cannot consistently call a game to save their lives. it isn't fun watching a game when it is taken out of your hand.
just totally took momentum from osu again because of a judgement....
if I want to watch a judged sport, ill go watch gymnastics.
