Please. While one of my all time favorite sitcoms, it pretty much jumped the shark in a big way with the introduction of Kevin Sorbos character and the ridiculous car crash that ended season 4. There might better a better definition of "comfort tv" than the first 3 seasons though. I still write ABC letters asking them when Dharma & Greg and Sports Night are coming back, cause my Tuesdays have been rather empty since. |

Hey - I actually liked the plot (and some of the execution) of "Hercules in Space" (as you call it). Bummed that it's not on Netflix Instant actually.

Actually, that was kindof my impression of him, too. Whenever there was a parody episode of Hercules, he came off of it well (I still remember the episode title of "For Those of You Just Joining Us"- an excellent example of that). SI

Whatever happened to The Indigo Girls? They were pretty big back in the early 90s, and haven't heard much since then.

Still putting out stuff but I know the darker haired one does solo stuff as well.
A girl I went to school with posted on FB that she's going to be a grandmother. Being a grandmother at 41 seems odd during these times.

It's kind of weird that Sid Caesar is still alive. When you look back at his contemporaries, he's been the only one left for quite a while now.

Depends on how you define contemporaries - Brooks, Reiner, and Simon worked with him and are still around.

Yep that was the only other clip I sought out. Pretty remarkable hearing the announcing at the time. I agree that it was probably just recreated since they had those guys in to do commentary for the movie anyway. |

True, but I think of them as his writers and errand boys and stuff, the kids that looked up to Sid Caesar. Though I guess in reality, they were all close to the same age. Caesar was a major television star more than 60 years ago, and I'm not sure there's anyone else living that can claim that. |

FYI, I had been using my Hotmail address just perfectly fine.

Been watching this show called 'Survivors' from the mid 70s on the BBC to tide me over until The Walking Dead returns. I have to say, not too bad of a show. Only on season 1 right now, but, it's really not that bad and recommend it.

Ah yes. I saw those listed. From the reviews, it seems like people liked the older version better, so I decided to watch those first and then watch the newer version.

My favorite quote so far: DARPA was also hard at work this year making robots to track humans and run as fast as a cheetah, which seems like a great combination with no possibility of horrible side effects.

So, thought this was pretty cool. Amazon has a new thing called AutoRip. If you have a bought a cd through Amazon since 1998 you can be eligible for the MP3 version of it. If so, it will automatically be put into your Amazon Cloud MP3 thing. So, if you have used Amazon a lot over the last fifteen years for physical cd's then this might be something you want to check out.
They claim they are adding new titles all the time to this service. Last edited by Scoobz0202 : 01-10-2013 at 09:25 PM. |

Didn't see the news of the weird handy, this thread seems as good as any though. Basically a story about what vanity plates have been allowed in Georgia compared to what vanity plates were rejected. No rhyme or reason to them, from trashy to religious, the difference seems to come down to which employee handles the application.

A co-worker of mine's son died from liver failure/cirrhosis of the liver at age 31. I guess I knew it was possible to drink yourself to death that young but, damn, that's young. I was trying to get a sense of what that takes, I mean, I've thrown down quite a few in my days. Is this a level of drinking that I couldn't even comprehend, or is it something that can just sneak up on you with less lifetime alcohol consumption that you'd expect it would take. It was kind of the perfect storm in his case - he had liver problems last year, reached the "you absolutely can't drink anymore" stage, and then binged continuously since then and just dropped completely out of the medical follow-up stuff he needed to do (not that it would have mattered with all the drinking).
So it did make me wonder what kind of consumption we're talking about to get to that point. I'm sure everybody's different but as best as I can tell from my amateur 5-minute research, something like 3-5 drinks a day is the average threshold that will damage most livers over time. I wonder if that translates into 21-35 a week for weekend drunks, or if one or the other is worse. While this can happen in one's 30s (and even younger), this kind of gave me into a window of what it must be like your 50s, when drinking catches up to more and more of your peers and family members. I haven't been around any problem drinking in my own family so these are kind of new thoughts. Which does make even the thought of drinking a lot less enticing. My dad died in September from it and he had just turned 60. When I was in about 6th grade I first started noticing his drinking scotch. For about the next ten years he would need a newer bottle of scotch every other night. That took him up to around 2000 or so and then it got even worse. Yet, he still kept going. I can't imagine how much somebody drank to die at 31 unless he had a bad liver to start with or was taking other drugs as well. |
