Argh... 64 win season and then lose my two best players in game 1 of the first round. Lose 1-4.

Another historical database correction - you've got Walt Hazzard in there twice for the '64 draft, once as Walt Hazzard and once under his Muslim name Mahdi Abdul-Rahman.

Sometimes when viewing retired players, by their birthdate, it will show the age they retired. For instance, viewing Shaq on his playercard it reads "3/6/72 (38)", but if I go down a couple players to Shareef Abdur-Rahim, it reads "12/11/76"

I can screenshot some examples if you'd like. Curious why that is.

It was just a space issue so it was cutting off the player age if the DOB had more characters.

HR, I know this isn't much to go on, but someone downloaded the latest FBB demo but said they got an Unexpected Error when they tried to launch the game. Said the game installed fine, but Unexpected Error when they tried to start the game with no accompanying error code or anything like that.

X-Posted because evidently the other thread is too old or some such.

Another historical database note - Don Smith = Zaid Abdul-Aziz (there's entries for both for the 1968 draft class).

Is everyone using this for historical play? Can anyone provide insight into the single player USA 2012/13 file experience (i.e. trade AI, realism, immersion)?

I don't mess with historical play. It's fictional or bust for me. Realism and AI and immersion are there. Perfect? No. But the right mix of immersion coupled with speed? Absolutely.

The problem I had with using totally fictional players in a historical universe was the talent level was waaaaaaay too high - rosters were chock full of blue/blue guys.

Using the historical database and standard randomization produces some variation from actual performance. Guys you'd expect to be stars usually are, but not always - in my current game, Bob Pettit turned out to be a solid player, started for about 4 seasons in the middle of his career, but definitely not the all-time great he actually was; conversely, Dick Barnett - a pretty good player in his day, but only a 1-time All-Star - is on his way to a Hall of Fame career in my game.

Some of the modifiers to produce the monster numbers in the '60's by Wilt, Russell, the Big O, etc. may go too far - when Wilt first entered my game, he was on his way to averaging 60 ppg his rookie year before I went in and toned down his ratings (he was way above 100 in several areas); I think it'd be better to generate those kinds of results by toning down the rest of the players from that era. I think Wilt would still be the best player in the game if he played now, but I don't think he'd be head and shoulders above everyone, and that's why (IMO) he posted the numbers he did - he was one of very few blue/blue players surrounded by mostly yellow players and some greens.

I'd love to use fully fictional players for a historical sim, but I'd like to see Brian scale the talent base accordingly for the era. When I start off in 1946, there should be mostly red & orange players, with a few yellow guys, and maybe one or two that make it to green (i.e. Joe Fulks).

There was a post about this on the FBB forums so I wonder if it is the same person. Right now I'd recommend uninstalling the demo and then running the setup again using the run as administrator option.

Pretty sure you can edit the fbcb.ini file (there must be a fbb equivalent?) to edit the incoming talent pool?

Is the combo deal still running on this game where if you buy both FBCB2010 and FBB2013, you get a slight discount? I already have both but I am finding members for a league at Utopia and would like to give them accurate pricing if they want to buy both games...

Hey I was wondering how that player facepack was coming along if anyone was still working on it. Also I dont know who to talk to about this but was the team files mod on Goosejuice updated to go with I believe update 3.014 I think it had to do with the team abreviations needed to be updated which ended up making some teams disapear.

Oh btw Boris Diaw is listed as a C but he is a PF/SF

I've got 1946-1968 complete for faces; I can pack them up and send them to Groundhog to host if folks want access to them right away. It'll take me a while to get all the way to current players.

heavy, question. I know every league is different, but in general I'm just wondering why this guy is considered by the league as average? He's yellow/yellow, but based on his career he seems to be on the lower end of the yellow pool.

As you can see, I just picked him up because as a PF he's very good to excellent in all of the important categories: INS, REB, PSD, BLK, STR. I'm wondering is it his height that is holding him back? The guy couldn't find the floor for a team, I play him, override the cpu suggestion of benching him and he gets All-League honors.

It would be the height that is doing it. Teams might be overvaluing that and ignoring that he is basically Charles Barkley minus the JMP but with more BLK.

The Barkley comparisons are unreal. Hehe.

Kinda of an extremely inefficient version of him though who doesnt get to the line very much. If he were to be on my team I would move him to SF and just have him focus on defense and may be a 2nd 3rd option scorer.

He can't play perimeter D and has terrible quickness. As a PF is his only destination.

Is it possible to do player photos for fictional players? Or is that too tedious of a task?

A suggestion that I don't know is possible: I am not a huge fan of the drop down menu on the players page . For me, it feels a bit too difficult to get to certain information sometimes. I wonder if it would be possible to replicate the idea of the sidebar on the left that has the team info, roster and league news on the right hand side for player info. It could stay greyed out until you click on a player and then you can easily click biography, achievements, contract etc on the right hand side of the screen.

It would be very cool if you can lock a player(2) into a position on the depth chart and then hit recommend, letting the AI fill in the rest for you however it sees fit.

In a current game I am playing, the recommend button insists on putting Patrick Ewing as my starting PF. Whether this is the best fit for him on my team or not, I don't care. I want him as my Center. IT would be nice to just lock him in as starting center and then click recommend and let the AI do whatever it wants for the rest of my guys.

Tangental note: I was drating third with the Bulls. I already have Jordan and I can team him up with Ewing or Karl Malone. Obviously I went Ewing, but as soon as I drafted him I had buyers remorse.

All else being equal, if you can draft Ewing or Malone, who would you take???

Ewing. He doesn't need the ball like Malone would. They can complement each other quite well...much better than Jordan and Malone, in my opinion.

Arles had fictionally generated player heads for his basketball game back in the day - I wonder if he has the rights to implement that work into HR's game, and if the process for picking those heads would easily transfer over to HR's code?

I believe HR said it would cost about 1000 dollars to use facegen commercially in his games so I assuming the cost is too high for something like that.

If the game could look to a folder to randomly assign fictional player faces, it could potentially be a work around. Someone could then compile a large collection of random pictures from internet sources. Additionally, I remember playing a basketball game in the past that worked like this with a large collection of graphic facegen faces in a game folder.

This. I added a \random\ folder inside the main photos folder that the game will use to assign photos for fictional players if it finds any files present.

Space is a major issue here. I'm not a fan of the current setup but haven't come up with something better. My one thought was adding one more dropdown for the category then splitting it up. Would be something like Stats/Contract/Biography.

This has been on my list of things to look at for a while. I just haven't got to it as it isn't a small change in terms of coding it.

That's a pretty cool feature, although I'm just picturing a generated player named Keyshawn O'Neil being assigned the face of a chubby, pale, red-head

A double click to view players on the trade screen would be nice. I pretty much always double click, remember that doesn't do anything and then click view player.

What's wrong with that? Sounds like an Irish name to me

One thing I would like is that for the career stat dropdown it defaulted to the current league's career stats, rather than all leagues displayed.

I put all the photos in gif format in photos folder for my fictional league. The game does not automatically assign the pictures to the players unless I go to the player editor and assign that player a particular picture.

Is this feature automatic and I am doing something wrong? Or do I have to manually set it up for each player? (I am hoping this isn't the case!)

I still feel like there is too much talent in FBCB imported leagues, and not just the initial roster style mentioned earlier. Constantly I am seeing guys go from 36 MPG to a new team the next year and logging 10 MPG, then going to another team and back into starting minutes. That means there are too many good players available.

Also would like to see a setting adjustment on foreign leagues... the lowest setting, I believe regional, still produces wayy too many above average talent that makes it's way into the NBA, so I have to disable this potentially cool feature.

Random photos added for the next update. Should have been clear. If you are having issues with the actual photos that is different.

Agree 100%. Even a 'yellow' potential guy should be an "every couple of years" type of event for most foreign leagues. I'd like to see much more oranges and very, very, very, few greens and blues.

Right, because now even with 4-5 blue, 10-20 green, and probably 100 yellow, they all fight their way into the NBA and mix up the talent. No yellow that can play in the Chinese Basketball Association should be able to go sign a min. salary deal in the NBA.

This change, and I believe it could be simple (i.e. simply massively reduce the talent) could greatly enhance my experience with multiple leagues.

I switched it up so Continental prestige will produce what Regional used to produce and then made National and Regional produce a lower range. Let me know how it works for you guys in the next build.
