Y'know, I don't like the current Angle angle, but Joe's mic work was quite solid tonight IMO.
Meanwhile though, between Pacman and rumors of the end of the X-Division in favor of a series of has-beens, never-was, and assorted rejects, I'm pretty depressed about the overall state of affairs.

Okay, maybe Pacman won't be there after all (and the TNA fans rejoice)
Long story short is that the Titans got a restraining order to prevent him from violating his contract by risking injury. Longer version that cites an ESPN article is at http://www.tnawrestlingnews.com/head...88782656.shtml Meanwhile, in spite of the publicity for the Pacman idea, ratings were back down to 1.0 this week. What part of "you're going to run off the fans you already had and nobody else gives a damn" do Jarrett & Co. not get?

WWE.com is reporting that during a standard Wellness policy physical, an abnormal accessory pathway to the heart (Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome) was discovered in US Heavyweight MVP. It is a potentially life threatening condition that could lead to a heart attack if untreated. He will be able to continue wrestling because according to WWE.com, MVP "underwent a precarious radio frequency treatment this past Monday – a procedure that is equally dangerous in that one in 1,000 individuals die during it. Next week, tests will be performed again to see if the procedure was a success."
WWE.com says that the testing took place at the Great American Bash. The body of the story is written to explain how The Wellness Policy caught this condition early. A cynic might say that mentioning the Bash and the benefits of the policy are a calculated move by WWE. A cynic may be right, but you also can't deny that the policy did what people want it to do either. |

Honestly if it helps keep wrestlers safer and healthy I have no problem if they choose to 'toot their horn' a bit when it works. It's still worth it.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Suspended Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones may appear at a wrestling show Sunday but not compete in the ring under an agreement approved by a judge. The Titans, Jones and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling worked out an arrangement Friday night in which the player would be part of the pay-per-view show "Hard Justice." The deal was approved Saturday, and a temporary injunction prohibits Jones from doing anything in which he could hurt himself. "No wrestling, and the order says that," said Steve Underwood, the Titans' chief operating officer. "What we were interested in was avoiding any significant injury." On Friday, the Titans took out a restraining order barring Jones from participating in the show in any way, even as a spectator or announcer. The Titans cited a contract that prevents him from engaging in activities in which he could injure himself. Jones' lawyer contacted the Titans, and attorneys for all three met for about six hours Friday and worked out the deal allowing Jones to take part in TNA. "He wanted to put on a show and he had prepared himself to put on a show," Jones' attorney Worrick Robinson said. "His role has changed." Jones was suspended by the NFL for a year because of repeated conduct violations since being drafted in 2005. The new deal specifies the restrictions now in place, including prohibiting any physical contact with any wrestler, performer, announcer, etc. at a TNA event or performance. It does not prevent him from outside-the-ring involvement with TNA. ...

It actually wasn't as bad as I expected.
The opening match was right up my alley, the Young-Roode match paid off for the comedy niche without hurting either guy, and Steiners-Dudleys wasn't bad. And if they do what makes sense, they've set up a logical end to the "Christian Coalition". There was plenty not to like - the Rhino angle, the outcome of the Angle-Joe match (which I called 3 days ago), and having to sit through VKM. And I'm at least hoping against faint slim hope that this was the only time we'll have to see Pacman. edit to add: If you think this was bad though, just wait. Between Jarrett's rumored return to the title picture, rumors that they've worked out the money to hire Rikishi and reform 2 Cool with Brian Christopher, and the impending addition of Albert/A-Train/Giant Bernard as the latest WWF reject, we ain't seen nothing yet

Honestly, I could care less who they bring in and stick in the ring so long as they fire every asshole who has a part in writing these shows and hire someone who can book a goddamn match and make the wrestling, you know, mean something.

Marc Mero can add another dead wrestler to that list he was pimping around the cable news shows - Bryan "Crush" Adams is dead, says WWE.com.

I don't understand the booking in the main event, now what do they do with Joe? He's lost to Angle what? 3 times now... that's some effective booking there.
It would of made more sense to have his wife turn (even though EVERYONE knew it was going to happen) and have it blow up in Angle's face, Joe wins - the Angle/Wife angle could continue a little while longer before he flips out and they have the final blow-off match. Instead they've buried Joe, again... |

My own suspicion is that Joe is among those trying to get released from his contract, and Lord knows I wouldn't blame him a bit. We'll get Abyss and Angle next month, then likely Angle and Jarrett after that, which would mean that there's pretty much no way Joe is getting near the singles title for a while longer. Not to mention Cage, Styles, or anybody else who's actually worth pushing (although I don't really have a problem with Abyss being in the mix).
The LAX thing I don't really have a huge problem with since it at least worked toward some storyline (good or bad though it might be). And right or wrong, I don't see them letting LAX do anything without a mouthpiece, so looks like Hector is going to get that slot. So in the long run, this probably had to happen although it should have been on Impact instead of a PPV. As for XXX, they're a team without a division at this point, since it seems that we're going to get Steiners/Dudleys/VKM feuding, leaving them all without a set of belts to even contend for at the moment and the only obvious opponents for XXX being LAX. Sigh. There's a lot of talent still on the TNA roster, unfortunately it doesn't look like much of it is going to get a push. Shades of the WCW cruiserweights.

Joe wants out and he's stuck for another year. He can make as much money on the indy scene (In a shoot he did he basically said he makes 2K a show) as he does in TNA, and work as much as he wants and be booked as a monster. Plus he can go to Japan and make double and triple what he makes here. What people say is people in TNA say he doesn't have the look to be champ. And TNA is supposed to be the alternate product? So they sign a bunch of big bodies who have hardly any skill and couldn't make it in WWE. It's just awful. |

Speaking of money, how the heck is it that TNA can't pay travel expenses for their regular workers and told several people to stay home last night so they wouldn't have to pay them but yet they've reportedly found the money to pay Rikishi to come in. I mean, I know "how" ... it's just damned crappy. edit to add: And don't even get me started on paying a dime for Pacman while refusing to contribute to Sonjay's shoulder work.

With the release of Slyvian Grenier, TNA can also re-unite La Resistance. That will give them even more momentum as a fresh alternative to the WWE.

Lots of tag teams in TNA right now. Even if some aren't what they used to be you've got The Steiners, The Dudleys, XXX, LAX, VKM, Sabin/Shelley. Heck, you could throw Raven's bunch in there, some combo from Christian's group, etc, etc. Lots of possible contenders to get the tag belts away from Angle.
So, who gets the next shot?

Meanwhile, after reading the spoilers from last night's TNA tapings, the various matches remind me of what you'd get if you told the old TNM textsim to set up random matches and provide random winners. I think their booking team has started dropping acid en masse or something. No wonder Cornette was reported as sick & unable to attend, I wouldn't have wanted to be there either.
On a separate note, I saw where Bryan Danielson is reported to have suffered a broken orbital during his weekend match with Morishima. Bad timing for him since he's scheduled to work Brent Albright in the final of the NWA World Title tournament this coming weekend. ... and just as I'm typing this I check the 'net and discover this from http:www.nwawrestling.com MEDICAL EMERGENCY FORCES DRAGON OUT OF NWA WORLD TITLE PICTURE Charlotte, NC (August 27, 2007) – Due to an injury sustained over the weekend, and emergency eye surgery this morning, “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson has been eliminated from the NWA World Championship Tournament Finals set to take place this Saturday September 1 in Puerto Rico. The decision to remove Danielson was made by the NWA Board of Directors after Executive Director Robert K. Trobich conducted several conversations with Danielson’s physicians. When reached for comments Trobich said “I have been on the phone all day with Bryan Danielson and his doctors. Bryan has been literally begging to be permitted to wrestle in the NWA title tournament final this Saturday in Puerto Rico against Brent Albright. Like all wrestling fans, I was eagerly anticipating the first-ever match-up between two world-class warriors like Danielson and Albright, with the biggest prize in wrestling hanging in the balance. However, as gutsy a fighter as Bryan is, there is simply no way he can be medically cleared to fight in this match after such serious surgery. Brent Albright deserves his shot at the belt, now, however. In that regard, after hours of discussions with the NWA board, I have decided that the title match will go on as scheduled, and Adam Pearce, who just met Danielson in a hotly-contested semifinal match ten days ago, will step into the final in Danielson's place.” Everyone in the National Wrestling Alliance wishes Danielson a safe and speedy recovery.

I actually think that the only thing that's held him back is his own self. He's fucked up all those opportunities one way or another. Hopefully, he's learned his lesson, but unfortunately, the trend in the industry is that once you're on that downhill spiral, there really is no stopping it... it's just a matter if he can slow it down for a while.

I would assume Mysterio, since he was named is the Astin case. I'm also going to go out on a limb and say that HHH was no suspended.

Following WWE's announcement that it has suspended 10 stars for Wellness Policy violations, the New York Daily News has an article online listing the names of WWE stars that were identified as clients of Signature Pharmacy in Orlando, the site raided by law enforcement agencies in February for distributing drugs (including steroids) to clients that had not been examined by doctors.
It is important to note that the list of names in the Daily News article is NOT the list of the ten wrestlers that were suspended today, and is NOT an indication of any illegal actions on their part. This list is simply wrestlers that were clients of the Signature Pharmacy. When we have more information on this story, we will report it. The eleven names in the article are Randy Orton, Charlie Haas, Adam Copeland (Edge), Robert Huffman (King Booker), Shane Helms, Mike Bucci (Simon Dean), Anthony Carelli (Santino Marella), John Hennigan (John Morrison), Darren Matthews (William Regal), Ken Anderson (Kennedy) and Chavo Guerrero. |

The wellness policy says that a 1st time offense is 30 days. This is a pretty big hit to Raw especially because they lose 3 of their top guys for a month- Booker T, Kennedy, and Randy Orton. Not to mention their manager, William Regal and I'm not sure why he's been taking steroids since he hardly wrestles anymore and doesn't really look the part. |

If those were the guys suspended, the article would have said that.
It's incredibly misleading, and poor journalism. Why would those names be out before the WWE announces them anyway? And if that list were true, it means that the WWE made that decision between last night's RAW and now. |
