Saw in USA Today that Miami (Fl) set a deadline of today for Bryce Brown to sign their offer or it would be pulled. Seems to me that's a clear sign that LSU or Oregon is a more likely destination and Miami is just trying to save face by making an ultimatum.

I'm actually glad Miami is doing this, and I am no fan of the Canes. What message does this send to the rest of the team if he continues to string the coaches along. It puts that one player ahead of the rest of the team that is already on campus and is buying into the system. This kid and his "agent" is going to end up making a lot more enemies than friends with all of this circus.

I think he is easily Oregon's to lose, with LSU as a slim, slim possibility. (And obviously depending on how the upcoming visit goes.)

Although something else that is going for LSU, Authur Brown really liked LSU, that was his second choice, and may talk them up to his brother, if the rumors of Authur Brown and Miami relationship souring lately are true. There is even some talk that Authur may want to transfer in the future because of how things are going in Miami...

But that's all likely BS or exaggerated internet rumors. I would be surprised if he Bryce doesn't go to Oregon.

I thought it was pretty common knowledge that the Brown brothers were a package deal. Especially if Miami effectively drops Bryce by not renewing his LOI (not that they are unreasonable to do so, just saying it will be another excuse for Arthur to leave)

I'm ecstatic that he is no longer considering USC. Last thing we need after Bush and Mayo is another "advisor" hanging around. Sometimes talent really isn't worth the trouble.

Same here. Also, I think his presence would have hurt our chances for some of the RB's we are in competition for 2010.

I would be ok with him going to LSU, because I have seen Miles backoff troubled recruits before (and even beyond that I think he learned what to look for with Ryan P.). So I trust Miles and his ability to assess if Brown is worth the risk.

That being said, I would also be happy with him not going to LSU. We have plenty of RBs now, a very underrated RB in this recruiting class in Ford, and have a good chance with Seastrunk or Williams out of Texas next year. It almost seems like an unnecessarily risk from an my prospective... We shall see...

Kwame Geathers to Georgia. Tennessee was in the running for him, there was rumor he nearly signed on during his visit.

David Oku, Rivals #1 all purpose back for 2009, signed with the Vols today.

TE Orson Charles is set to announce in just under 2 hours. He's choosing between Tennessee, Georgia, and USC. I think it's Georgia. I'd say USC is a close 2nd, and Tennessee is 3rd.

Of course, I was wrong on Oku. I thought he was history. I'm really happy to have him onboard.

I think Charles is going to Georgia as well, but I'm hoping Noop is right and he ends up at USC.

Has anyone got a 'latest' on Bryce Brown? I'm hearing 'rumors' at VolNation...but I do realize that's kind of playing to the home crowd there.

Dola, I'd rather have Oku at this point. I'd rather let Bryce be someone else's nightmare. If he does come to Tennessee (which I've always considered a longshot), I'd hope he leaves his mentor/trainer at home.

Tennessee and Oregon. I would watch out. Both teams are ahead because they played up to him their ability to market him and make him a star above all else. With Bryce's personality that is potentially like feeding a mogwai after midnight.

Bellotti stepping down, does it help or hurt Oregon?

Brown is in Knoxville for the 'weekend'. He attended the spring practice today.

This kid is one that some think/thought was actually the best D1 prospect in the state of Georgia last year, ahead of his more talked about teammate Washaun Ealey.

Georgia drops football signee Moody | [email protected]

Georgia has cut ties with football signee Dexter Moody.

The linebacker from Emanuel County Institute in Twin City has been released from his scholarship by the school because of a combination of academic and behavior issues, according to his coach.

Milan Turner said Georgia informed Moody on Friday about its decision.

“They kind of had a plan for him to finish up the year as far as eligibility and schoolwork and behavior,” Turner said. “He’s kind of gotten off track there, and I think they felt it was best to give him an unconditional release and let him kind of decide what he wants to do.”

Turner said he was unsure whether the university made the decision or if it was made independently by the football program. Turner said Moody had no legal issues that were a factor.

“I think there’s some disappointment there, but he’s a senior in high school, and when they give you a plan to follow and you don’t follow it, you kind of reap what you sow,” Turner said.

Turner said Georgia had a weekly plan for Moody to follow in hopes of showing progress academically.

“It had to do with grades and test taking,” Turner said. “I just don’t think he was following the plan that was set up for him.”

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Moody played in the Under Armour All-American game and was rated No. 101 on the ESPNU150 rankings.

Moody also considered Florida and LSU.

“I’m sure there will be other folks interested,” Turner said.

Which makes for a heckuva story although I'm not sure how much truth is actually in it. Given the doubtful situation about his academic status I have to think that's more likely the reason CMR is willing to walk away from him but then again things like the rumor have been known to happen.

If true though, my guess would be that the HS coach's wife didn't realize that his eligibility had expired & figured she might help in the recruitment process to bring him back for one more season

UT is a ticking time bomb, something big is going to happen there and who knows who or what is going to be taken out in the blast. Kiffin isn't reeling in coach O, and no one is there to reel in Kiffin; whatever happens will be spectacular.

Quarterback Mike Rozier will begin his football career anew at Tennessee this fall.

The former pitcher in the Boston Red Sox organization told UT coaches that he will enroll for the first session of summer school in June after visiting practice on Thursday.

“I committed yesterday,” the 6-foot-5 Rozier said. “ I told them I was coming there. It was between them and South Carolina.

“I’m a pure pocket passer. They have a pro-style offense and I think it fitted me well.”

The former standout quarterback at Henry County High School in Stockbridge, Ga., signed with North Carolina in 2004 before pursuing his baseball career.

Rozier, 23, chose UT over South Carolina. He will be considered a walk-on although the Red Sox are contractually obligated to pay for his scholarship.

Rozier’s minor league career lasted from 2005 to 2008. He made it to Class AA Portland in 2006, but pitched only 30 innings last season between Class A Greenville and in the Gulf Coast League.

The former standout quarterback at Henry County High School in Stockbridge, Ga., signed with North Carolina in 2004 before pursuing his baseball career.

What the article doesn't mention in any detail is that the Red Sox paid him a $1.575 million signing bonus, which was the largest ever paid to a player beyond the 10th round that wasn't a draft-and-follow guy. Oh, and his agent was Scott Boras.

To be honest I'm not particularly excited about this one, he played for his dad in high school and had okay numbers but hardly won at all. Same system also just produced a QB that set the state's all-time career passing mark this year (with help from current/future D1 receivers each season) but ended up with an offer from start-up program Georgia State as his only D1 chance. In other words, okay numbers even in a system known to prop up QB stats and he hasn't thrown a pass in almost 5 years.

Even more disturbing is that he might still end up being the best QB option on campus this fall.

He had some issues with arm injuries and a drop in velocity after coming to the Red Sox. Some attributed it to a change in throwing regimens - in HS under his dad he basically threw hard every day, and the Red Sox tried putting him on a normal program with off days. But there are different opinions. He also had issues with composure and conditioning, the former exacerbated when he was hit in the head twice last year by line drives.

The bonus was largely to buy him out of his scholarship to UNC as a QB, and he would have gone first few rounds if teams thought he wasn't going to choose football. But either way, a colossal bust. Hopefully for your sake he's a better QB, although really I don't remember the last time a QB came from the minor leagues and wasn't either a disappointment or highly erratic - my memories are of guys like Chris Rix and Quincy Carter.

Hmm, since this thread was bumped, I might as well mention that Matt Barkley has impressed beyond any expectations in spring ball so far and actually has a chance to start as a true freshman QB for USC. His arm strength is extremely impressive and the rate that he is learning the offense is even more impressive.

Oh, speaking of this thread being bumped anyway (cue Urkel "did I do that?") ... Saw earlier where the NCAA told Paulus he'd need a special waiver to play at Michigan.

Oddly though, there's conflicting info in two articles about him being eligible to play below D1.

Paulus would need waiver for football eligibility | ajc.com
AP says "Normally, transfers have to sit out one season, but Paulus could play immediately in a lower division"

Greg Paulus says he'll compete for Michigan Wolverines QB job - ESPN
But ESPN says "Paulus said he can play only for Football Bowl Subdivision teams, which would rule out a move to a Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) member."

My guess is that Paulus really meant "he was only interested in playing for a D1 team", not that he couldn't.

Yeah, the second article is wrong. If you are at a FBS (former Div. 1A) school and you transfer to another FBS school, you have to sit out a year. If you go to any lower division, then you can play right away. There is a provision, though, that if you graduated in 4 years and still had a year of eligibility left, you could immediately play at another FBS school if you enrolled in a graduate program that your current school did not offer.

Ok, the media has really blown this Paulus to UM thing way out of the water. The facts are that they talked to him but never offered him a scholarship. Even if he did come here there is very little chance he would ever start, barring an injury or two of course. Regardless, they say its a dead issue now and he will not end up at Michigan.

The situation started because they are looking to add a QB for just this year for depth and the fact they have 3 open scholarships. They are actually hoping Jason Forcier, older brother of freshman Tate Forcier, will be the one who will come in and do that. In the scenario Cartman just described, Jason is graduating from Stanford in a few weeks and will be trying to attend Michigan for grad school. If he is accepted into UM and the NCAA clears him to play, he and Sheridan will backup the two freshman. They have open scholarships and are trying to protect themselves from injuries.

Sorry for that, I just get tired of hearing the ESPN talking heads making incorrect assumptions.

Russell Shepard was picked as a starting quarterback for LSU's spring game. (Opposite of Jordan Jefferson, ahead of Jarett Lee who started the most games last year.)

Looking forward to watching Shepard run all over the field tomorrow. If he is already second on the depth chart, I imagine he will get as much playing time this year as Tebow had as a freshman at Florida.

Shepard was that kid who lit it up in the Army All American game in January, right? He looked fantastic in that game. That said, wow, is that right, LSU picked a freshman to start?

Shepard had a pretty good under armor game, a bunch of rushing yards and one long 90 yard pass play to Debose. The defenses ruled that game for the most part.

He is just starting for one of the teams, which means he is second on the depth chart to Jordan Jefferson as of today. Not as big of a deal as being on top of the depth chart, but a big deal when one considers Jarett Lee is a third year player with starting experience and Shepard is ahead of him in the coaches eyes. (And that some questioned Shepard's ability to line up at QB at the major college level.)

It seems to be only a matter of time until Dexter Moody becomes a Vol.

“I’m going to (sign) as soon as they offer,” the former Georgia signee said.

That offer could come quickly. Barring an unforeseen issue in his background search, Tennessee is expected to offer the 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker a scholarship in the near future.

Mistake. Mistake. Mistake.
{shakes head}

Tremendous athlete, but not the sharpest knife in the drawer (not sure whether he's even qualified yet) and taking a shove at your science teacher when you know you're already on a short leash doesn't bode well for his judgment nor his attitude.

It may be a mistake, but it appears Tennessee is going to need bodies, and a lot of them.

With OT Darris Sawtelle and QB BJ Coleman now leaving the team, Tennessee is up to nine players that have left the program. A tenth, WR Ahmad Paige, is apparently forthcoming.

If this keeps up, we may see a single platoon football team. The freshmen better have their chinstraps on tight, because they're going to have some playing time next year.

Dear Lord, they've replaced a guy who could no longer coach with a crop of village idiots & clowns that seem determined to make sure they don't win three games this coming season. Apparently they want to play the "we didn't have our players" card to buy themselves an extra year of losing. Anyone who would put the inCrompetent one on a football field again should only be allowed in the stadium if they bought a ticket and then only if they pay full price.

I wouldn't have thought it likely, but things truly seem to have gone from bad to worse. When Kiffy is fired for landing the Vols on probation or never having a winning season (or even more likely both), Hamilton should be ridden out of town on the same rail.

The attrition for coach O at Ole Miss was ridiculous. And it wasn't because of normal head coach decisions, its the type of atmosphere his recruiting creates around a program. His method of recruiting works well, but its quite often sophomoric and dishonest. Add to the fact that the younger Kiffin has shown those qualities as well... I would bet attrition is going to stay high at Tennessee. Luckily for them they are recruiting very well right now.

I'm now hearing rumor that a potential eleventh player, defensive tackle William Brimfield may be leaving the program.

Ugh, speaking of the Vols, I can't believe they are taking in Daniel Hood, who helped rape his 14 year old cousin with a plunger a few years ago. Add that to the Vols staff willingness to let go of certain players because of their talent level... And one has to wonder what the hell is going on in Knoxville.

Ain't much left to wonder about. Mike Hamilton sold his soul (and that of the program) to try to keep his job as AD.
