Thanks. I won't be stoned, especially as there will be Folks From Work there, but I am definitely dropping a coupla drinks into the system before I hit the stage. The Redhead I Like also appears to be coming, so now the pressure is ON. Big time.

Just applied for a promotion at work. I have been all but guarenteed to get the job. While I like advancment and challanges, as well as more money, it will be a lot more work. Hope I don't regret it.

Why is college basketball the only organized version of the game to do 2 halves rather than 4 quarters?

I read this post, then five minutes later, I got an email from someone way up in my company saying he wanted to meet with me to discuss "a potential opportunity" -- insurance promotions for both of us, hopefully!

Has anyone ever used MyLife dot com? I drunkingly signed up for it one night but stopped short of paying because fuck that. But now I get constant emails that people are looking me up. It's always women, so of course I'm intrigued. But I know the moment I pay and check it out it'll end up being nothing.

He had some hostages and one untied himself and got out and called for help. Apparently all that survivalist training didn't cover knot tying.

Just realized that at the end is the Dos Equis commercial he says " I don't always drink but when I do I drink Dos Equis" and he used to say " I don't always during BEER but when I do I drink Dos Equis. Interesting change.

No video, alas, but some of the guys invited me to start working a downtown joint called The Idiot Box on Thursdays, when they run an open mic that fills up fast. Last night was SERIOUS, with several people who have been in The Biz for 7 years +, and a couple who came all the way from Durham (about a 90 minute drive one-way.

Got some good laughs - not for ALL my jokes, but enough - and was told I have good stage presence and timing. For a first time, I'll take it!

Wait. 90 minutes from Durham? Are you our W-S guy?

I'm pretty sure you are, and that I would remember if I was thinking at full strength.

Weird thing tonight at dinner, found a credit card in the parking lot with the little "call to activate" sticker still attached.

Normally I'd just give it to the cashier inside (although there are 3 restaurants that share the same basic parking lot, so it would have been a bit of a crapshoot) but there have been recent identity theft problems here tied to bar/restaurant employees. In the end I went with my wife's suggestion: called the card company & notified them, sounded as though the shocked c.s. rep had the card blocked before I hung up the phone.

Still not sure whether I made the most convenient choice for the customer (cardholder since 1984) but I think I made the safest one in this day & age.

Yeah you did the right thing. The cardholder would have called anyway to report their credit card lost and/or stolen and gotten it blocked anyway once they realized it was gone.

If the card holder can't appreciate that you were trying to protect them and do the right thing then they are an asshole and deserve the minor inconvenience.

Kind of a similar thing with me a few years ago. I was at gas station and saw someone had dropped their Bank of America ATM card. After I was done, I drove to the closest Bank of America and gave it to one of the tellers. The look of shock on their face was a bit disturbing and sad.

Thanks.

I really felt kinda torn about what to do on this one, seems like the FOFC is in considerable agreement that I picked correctly.

Yeah it was definitely the right move. There was a 0% chance of an issue your way. Whatever the alternative method that you could have chosen, the chances of a problem were clearly non-zero.

Just wondering, how often are those "you must call from your home phone number" activations defrauded? I assume that's still the method. And I assume fraud takes place more in setting up an account for someone else, and using your own chosen number as the person's phone number.

Completely Boston-centric post and random thought, but it's been interesting to listen to some of the fallout of the implosion and end of Glenn Ordway and the WEEI Big Show. The station and Ordway are way past their prime, but there were a real powerhouse and a big part of the Boston sports scene for a long time, and it's been kind of interesting to read about some of the history of the station at bostonsportsmedia.com, and hear them wind things down this week. I remember when they switched to all sports in the early 90s, it was really the internet message board of the day.

Interesting to me, as a radio guy. It's been about, damn, I guess more than 10 years since I bought the Boston market regularly but with a target demo of M25-54 for most of those, I certainly know WEEI.

If you haven't see it already, there's a pretty good discussion of this from a radio point of view at one of the few message boards I've found for such things.

Hah, yeah something like that. Back in June/July they "eliminated" our positions only to have us reapply for them. Now based on restructuring and elimination of regions and corporate bringing everyone under one TWC they have eliminated some training positions, mine just happens to be one of those positions.

Information you could have used 9 MONTHS AGO!! Just wow. I hope you don't have to wait long to get back to work man. I know what it's like and it can be a bit nerve racking.

Fortunately there are some internal positions open right now that I'm fully qualified for, so my goal is to hopefully have something very soon. But I'm not sure how all this shit will impact my time off for when the baby is born. I'm more worried because we have a baby on the way. At least in July we would have actively tried to prevent a baby if I had lost my job. Oh well, I guess this is what happens when you start thinking things are really going good in your life.

Ah ok, well, hopefully you can get one of those positions and it won't be much of any down time for you. I would imagine the maternity policy would be the same, right? Yup, never fails. My best friend and I call it the "There's always something" rule. No matter how good things are going, there's always something that will try and f it up. Good luck and I hope you're back to work soon.

I am proud of my daughter just as much as the next parent. I try really hard to to not have exaggerated opinions of my daughter's accomplishments. Some of the parents I know on facebook really need a reality check on how great their kids really are.

I'm pretty sure I have a mild concussion. This morning I wiped out on some snow-covered ice & banged my head. I've had a headache since & have a sort-of disconnected feeling. I've also had several times at work today where I completely lose what I was doing. Yay...

Just found out my brother cut off about an inch of the middle finger of his right hand yesterday. He's a butcher at a grocery store. That's pretty awesome.
